@Torque
I agree with you almost on everything but...there's a but. The Winklevoss' know for sure the WS world, no doubt. I believe they are wannabe new WSers though. They want to simply replace the old financial powerful guys with their pretty faces.
Am I wrong to see it this way? I see them very much tied to the old world that I can't read those words genuinely.  Huh
1662  Economy / Services / Re: [CFNP] BestChange Signature Campaign | Sr Member+ on: September 09, 2020, 09:57:36 AM
@examplens
Could you kindly explain in detail what the exclusions to the rule you mean?
He's saying that very often many posts after page 5 can be constructive. Would you prefer somebody with your signature spamming in every new thread or would you prefer your participants replying with reasoning in threads that already exist (and that might go well beyond page 5)?

I support that this specific rule needs to be changed. The way it is now, your members are incentivized to post in new threads only. For the sake of reaching their quota they would rather stop commenting already existing threads for new ones.

tl;dr I believe that posting in new threads only (less than 5 pages) encourages post quantity over quality.

@JJG/nullius
I am not going to argue with you guys. You completely misread my quote
Quote
It is no measure of health to be well-adjusted to a profoundly sick society.
. I was referring to those jokes related to gender and such.
You guys are becoming a black hole. Cool

What JJG is saying nullius is that Bitcoin is an inelastic good (which did not exist before!). You can’t produce more to compensate for an increase in demand, or produce less when demand declines. Therefore not having bubbles or being stable at $10k is just wishful thinking at its current level of adoption.
Thank you bitebits! Cheesy
1664  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-09-08]Bitfinex Invests in Derivatives Exchange Built With Bitcoin’s LN on: September 09, 2020, 07:24:01 AM
Yep, it looks like a super early stage product. I mean look at the site, reminds me of an early 2000 version  Grin
Of course it's a start, any LN implementation will be a big thing and this one might be huge one day.
At the moment, with 0.01 they can't go that far.  Cool
1665  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Electrum update: A trader lost 1400 BTC on: September 08, 2020, 02:32:12 PM
it's their platform, not ours, so it's their responsibility.
And while the coin is on their platform, it's their coin, not yours, so they can do whatever they like with it.
Somebody wake me up, it's 2020 already and we are still repeating these very basic bitcoin management principles! There are tons of guides out there that explain crystal clear how to properly manage a wallet and its keys. Jeez...... Roll Eyes
1666  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Sovereign Bitcoiner's Manifesto on: September 08, 2020, 02:29:43 PM
Thanks very much to both of you. Your encouragement makes this much easier. It would be great to see you guys using Sovryn.

I also agree with everything you said. With Sovryn we have a few guiding principles. Here are a few relevant ones:

"You shouldn't have to be technical to be free". We are working hard to make our system so easy to use that anyone can use it. It should be as easy as a centralised exchange. Maybe even easier, since you can use coins directly from your wallet.

"Don't fight greed, harness it". Sovryn is designed to make it easier than ever to make money with your Bitcoin. We want to help harness greed as tool to encourage freedom. We think that is what Satoshi was doing. So we have features we call HyperHODLing (going leverage long BTC) and SuperStacking (earning interest on your stack of Sats).

"Don't sacrifice the good for the perfect". Sovryn won't be perfect. It won't be as decentralised as mainchain Bitcoin. It won't have governance that is as neutral as PoW. But it will be one hell of an improvement over centralised exchanges. We know a lot of Maxies will probably reject Sovryn for these reasons. We think this is a mistake. The road to hyper-bitcoinisation is long and requires many steps. Not one giant leap to the end.

BTC
You will see me there but you won't know who I am, or at least, I hope my OpSec is good enough to allow me to contribute being somebody else Cool
I am eagerly waiting to see what you guys can do for us.  Grin
1667  Bitcoin / Press / [2020-09-08]Bitfinex Invests in Derivatives Exchange Built With Bitcoin’s LN on: September 08, 2020, 02:27:26 PM
Lightning Network-based derivatives platform LN Markets closed a pre-seed funding round joined by Bitfinex and other early-stage Bitcoin startup investors. Launched in March 2020, LN Markets has reached nearly $10 million in aggregate traded volume and has over 100 channels connected to its exchange.
The platform is designed to avoid slow and costly on-chain transactions by connecting traders to a bitcoin derivatives market by “streaming” their funds through the Lightning Network, according to the project’s founders.

One day, even mom female-identifying parent and dad male-identifying parent, partner of other parent will not be the same.

FTFY, with proactive added note to make sure that you do not dare to think of such offensive terms as “h***band” and “w*fe”.  You are behind the times—in the Dark Ages, using such sexist, gender-discriminatory, hetero-normative, cis-normative slurs!  Don’t you know that a man can become pregnant?  You ignorant bigot, just Google it...  (“Pregnant woman” is now incorrect:  It is “pregnant person”.)

Progress must be made.  Report for re-education.

Jimbo, you, too.

I can't believe SJW rot has infiltrated Bitcoin Core, to the point they ACKED a merge to change "blacklist" to "blocklist".

For Bitcoin.

A blockchain.

...

we should fight back and stop saying blockchain but using blackchain from now on. To get even with the usage of the word „whitepaper“ 🤪
This whole thing is mind-blowing. Not even Orwell's thought-police could have been able to make such a mess with our language. I guess we will see more and more newspeak terms to be developed soon.
One day, even mom and dad will not be the same.
1671  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 07, 2020, 05:16:50 PM
To this day I still do not have a clear explanation for why the alts all went sky high at that time.  It may have been some kind of spill over effect from btc's rise in Dec of 2017.   But it was cool, it gave me a decent stash of btc. (it still doesn't wipe out the regret of having sold so many in the early days, but whatever)

I'll tell you exactly why. The whale pumpers had already started the Bitcoin bull run back in 2015/2016, but turning the corner into 2017, they needed a mega distraction. (The theory is that whales already had insider knowledge of the coming BTC futures market launch near the end of 2017). They wanted everyone possible to sell their bitcoin prior to the blow off top. That is how they make money, by FUDing and second-guessing everyone out of their bitcoin at all the wrong times. Also at the same time, Roger Ver and Wu were forking Bitcoin (over Segwit and the blocksize debate), and whale traders were legit attempting a "flippening" with ETH, and trolling the shit out of the forums during all of it. ICO scams around ETH were also running rampant.

So by mysteriously pumping every other shitcoin known to man sky high, suddenly and without explanation, while at the same time selling off bitcoin, starting a flame war around SegWit and the blocksize debate, pumping a supposed ETH "flippening" with ICO scams, and shilling/pumping the new BCH fork, they were legit trying to scare all the n00bs right out of bitcoin and right into the shitcoin markets. It's clear that stirring FUD was all part of their plan. I'm guessing it worked on some people. If you remember, there was MEGA trolling and confusion going on at the time. Then they pumped Bitcoin parabolic right on the BTC futures launch in November 2017.

This is the right plot for the real Bitcoin movie! We need a director, a few actors and pop corns. Or we could launch an ICO to do the movie!
It might work. (pun intended)
 Grin
Bolded part finds me off guard, never heard of such theory  Huh
1672  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Sovereign Bitcoiner's Manifesto on: September 07, 2020, 02:17:15 PM
Bitcoin BTC is digital gold.

In 1933, the American authorities decided to confiscate all their citizens gold. This happened in the land of freedom. It can happen again. It can happen anywhere, anytime.

People talk about the 51% attack. But that is not the only way to attack Bitcoin. All those Bitcoin sitting in centralised exchanges? They can be seized. All that KYC data that Bitcoiners have handed over to exchanges, the IRS wants it.

Defence-in-Depth (DID) is a concept invented for medieval citadels and adapted to modern IT security. In a citadel, you don't just have one layer of defence, you have many. A moat, a wall, a keep...

In modern IT security, you have technical controls (cryptography), physical controls (hardware wallets) and also administrative controls (self-custody). Bitcoin as a system is secure because of PoW and cryptography. But Bitcoin, as a social and economic structure, needs additional layers of defence.

We need to make sure we don't have to use centralised services and pool our Bitcoin in places that make it easy to seize funds or taint coins. We need to make sure that there are not obvious points of centralised control where politicians can exert pressure. Coinbase and Binance, if they became dominant enough, could have the same centralising effect over Bitcoin as Facebook and Google have over the web. Binance already suggested they would try to re-org Bitcoin Blockchain.

Centralised services are walled gardens of convenience that you are not in control. They are honeypots. They rob us of our sovereignty.

DID is about expanding the envelope of decentralisation and uncensorability. DID is about expanding what we understand Bitcoin to be. It is more than just a blockchain or a coin. It is a social, political and economic structure.

Defence-in-Depth is about expanding the protections we provide Bitcoin and, as a result, expanding the protection Bitcoin provides us.
Now that Bitcoin is on everyone's mouth whatever you stated here is of the greatest importance. But, look around, how many people are here to gain their financial freedom and how many are here because of either a quick buck or a get rich quick scheme?
Don't misunderstand me, reading your posts is like going back to the (merkle)roots, which is good. Grin
1673  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Can I call this the "right way of mixing"? on: September 07, 2020, 02:07:55 PM
but what he is giving is just another way of mixing coins, in his own perception.
And we are correctly pointing out what that perception is flawed.

Even although some gambling sites don't collect full KYC as you say, they still keep a complete log of all deposits and all withdrawals, all IP addresses, browser fingerprints, etc. They might not be able to link your coins to your real name, but they can very easily link your deposits to your withdrawals, and link all of that to your IP address and browser fingerprint. In most cases this would be enough for an attacker to de-anonymize you through other means, since most people do not use Tor, have very unique fingerprints, and leave traces of their activity and identity all over the internet.

Even without going through the gambling site at all, since as slaman29 says the vast majority of gambling sites are well known to blockchain analysis companies, watching deposits and withdrawals over a period of time and simply matching timestamps and amounts may even be enough to link your deposits and withdrawals.

I would say that not only is using a gambling site in this way not making your privacy any better, but in many cases it is actively making it worse.
Ditto! That's the way I see it too. Given the very low security literacy of most bitcoin (and internet) users I would never suggest a gambling site (or an exchange) to be used as a mixer. That is simply very stupid.
1674  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Electrum update: A trader lost 1400 BTC on: September 07, 2020, 08:58:32 AM
Ignorance can really bite a person hard.

Ignorance, bad advices like this one, the overall advertising about hardware wallets which makes people think they are fool proof, all did its part.

For big amounts of coins (where "big amount" may depend from person to person) there's only one good solution imho: cold storage (and also this, only if properly used, obviously).
I will be always grateful to satoshi because when I first found out about Bitcoin I realized the most important thing of it all was, guess what, security!
Security for my hardware, for my finances, for my digital life etc.
While studying Bitcoin I had to study several other things that, otherwise, I would have never thought they would even exist in the first place.
Long live bitcoin

@arcmetal
Sometimes I feel like I am real crazy especially when I find myself waking up at night just to check bitcoinwisdom. The WO, given the right attitude towards it, is a good source for everything Bitcoin.

Now looking at JJG/nullius debate you can see how easily we can degenerate (guys pages with only your posts = no good!)

By the way, JJG do not worry! I will be using your DCA strategy but I will never complain if it will not work. I believe these prices are still very low, hence even if your strategy could turn out to be crap short-term it will be amazing long-term!  Cool
1676  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Can I call this the "right way of mixing"? on: September 06, 2020, 02:59:36 PM
Replace casino with exchange, then think again whether it's "right way of mixing" since both of them collect your information.
Yes, I would never use a gambling service to mix my own coins. There are far better mixing alternatives out there to use.
Mixers, Wasabi, Samourai, Joinmarket: 2double0, do a great deal of research on the matter.  Cool

"Suckers!" They are literally laughing at the stupidity of rest of the world rn. Such risk and panic.  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Responsibility for the panic lies squarely on the idiots who have been panicking.  Why would the Chinese be to blame for others’ foolishness?

Moreover, your images from 2017 are clearly misrepresented as “meanwhile”, “rn [right now]”, i.e. from the present.  Why would you do this?  Dishonest.
I rather prefer not to talk about covid and such but it looks like the Qingdao Beer Festival went live in 2020 too.

In the port city of Qingdao, they even held a three-week beer festival, drawing in what would have been unthinkable just months ago: huge crowds.

Price side, I see again green on my Bitcoin ticker widget app, that's enough of a good morning. Need to pick a day to buy some corn in September for my DCA long term strategy. I welcome suggestions.

Divide your DCA allowance into 4 parts. Buy 1/4 right away. Thereafter, buy 1/4 each of the next three weeks. Does that not help?
Thank Jay, sounds good to me. I am about to try this strategy during September.  Cool

I see again green on my Bitcoin ticker widget app
Also have the BTC price showing on the face of my watch.
