16641  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: IMPORTANT NEWS on: February 04, 2018, 02:42:36 PM
This is good news for a couple of reasons. Most ICOs are scams, and most Facebook users don't understand the difference between solid coins like Ethereum and some trash ICO. This will stop naive Facebook users being scammed out of their money, which would obviously be bad for them, but would also be bad for crypto as a whole, as all scams do is slow down adoption.
16642  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MORE THAN 3 YEARS! peak-to-peak on: February 04, 2018, 11:19:53 AM
Last time, BTC price took more than 3 years to return to its peak.  How many years will it take, if ever, for BTC to return to $20,000?

I think the current situation is different.
What we saw in late November/ early December was a massive influx of new people who had read all the news reports of bitcoin surging in value, and wanted in. This I believe was the main cause of the huge price rise. All big rises tend to be followed by a fall, and what happened was that as soon as the price dropped, these people had lost money and a lot of them panicked, and sold to cut their losses, which triggered further sells, and then experienced traders jumped in to short their coins, exacerbating the drop. And this was pattern was repeated in more extreme fashion in the altcoins rising almost vertically and then dropping just as quickly in Jan/early Feb. This is all due to the fact that crypto is gaining mainstream attention, which is why we also have governments jumping in to have their say every couple of days. This government/media FUD is in my opinion a symptom of the price swings, not the cause.

So I think the current situation is unprecedented - it is the first pains of interaction between crypto and the mainstream. Crypto will grow, mainstream adoption will come, but there will no doubt be more drama along the way.

Of course I may be wrong (I have limited experience and have not yet been here a year), but I believe that $20k will arrive sooner than people think. The overall trend is still upwards, and this will continue through 2018.

This is a nice summary, and I agree with what you have said, EXCEPT from $20k arriving sooner than we think.

There were times over the last few months where the mempool was so backed up, many people gave up even attempting to transfer/move their coins. Bitcoin market dominance is at an all time low of 34%. Bitcoin is slipping, and people know it. Yes, the overall trend for the market as a whole is upwards, and I'm still very bullish about crypto in general, but I'm not sure how long Bitcoin can maintain its number 1 spot. It has first mover advantage, but not much else going for it. It is used widely to trade alts, but Ethereum is rapidly taking over this market. There are other coins offering smart contracts, fee-less transaction, instant transactions, staking, ASIC-resistance, etc, etc.

With news circulating of various exchanges in the process of allowing trading directly between fiat and alts, we need lightning network to be a success, and a success SOON. I think it will be a while before we see $20k again. But that's just one guys opinion. Who knows.  Smiley

16643  Other / Meta / Re: Its Harder now on: February 04, 2018, 11:04:36 AM
Yes I do think also that this merit system is going to make it hard to rank up. I see a lot of jr. member getting stuck and are having a hard time ranking up to member. I am afraid that some of the higher ranks would not even give up their merits at all.

That's how it is supposed to work. Look at the Bitcoin Discussion forum right now. On the front page there are the following posts:

Should I buy bitcoin?

Should I sell bitcoin?

Psychic investment advice

Can bitcoins be sold for cash?

Someone selling memes for bitcoin

These are low quality topics. They barely even belong on the forum at all, let alone allowing people to rank up by posting such vacuous nonsense. The whole point of the merit system is:

Forcing people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up. If you just post garbage, you will never get even 1 merit point, and you will therefore never be able to put links in your signature, etc. Link

16644  Economy / Economics / Re: How can you manage potential losses during a crash on: February 04, 2018, 09:51:50 AM
What I have noticed lately, is that the price is dropping within a $500 margin daily and then recovers. <lots of mini crashes and mini corrections>

There is no reason to believe that this pattern that you claim to see will continue. It is a bad idea to base an investment strategy on it.

Hindsight is 20/20. Anyone can look at what the market did last week and see how to profit from it. These is absolutely zero reassurance the market will continue to behave like you want it to.
16645  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: which alts should i buy now? on: February 04, 2018, 09:39:07 AM
Threads like these only every turn in to people posting whatever coins they are holding.

If you are planning to hold for one year, then it makes more sense to pick from well-established coins, with working products and partnerships, that will produce solid gains over the next 12 months. There is no point investing in random hit-or-miss ICOs or tiny marketcap "moon-shots" for 12 months - those are short term investments only. Do your own research.

If it was me, I would be picking coins like ETH, NEO, XLM, VEN, OMG, ICX. I hold some, but not all, of these.
16646  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What time of day does a new daily candle form on BTC? on: February 03, 2018, 08:12:09 PM
The candles can represent different amounts of time depending on what settings you have picked. Commonly available candle sizes are 1 minute, 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 6 hour, 12 hour, 1 day, 3 day, 1 week, 1 month.

Daily candles usually go from midnight to midnight. In most charts, if you hover over a candle, there will be display somewhere on the chart that tells you the timespan of the candle.
16647  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think about Pump-dump groups? on: February 03, 2018, 07:43:19 PM
They are scams. The leaders of the PnD groups have already bought large amounts of the coin in question before they tell their group to start buying. As soon as the price starts to spike from people buying, the leaders dump their large holdings and it crashes again, leaving most members of the group other than a lucky few bag holding some shitcoin.

Since people that join them are trying to manipulate the market to scam other people out of their coins, I have no sympathy for anyone who has been burned by one.
16648  Economy / Speculation / Re: 1 Sat = 1$ ----> Name a date! on: February 03, 2018, 04:09:54 PM
Never.

For 1 sat to equal 1 dollar, the total market cap of bitcoin alone (never mind the rest of the market) would be 2,100 trillion dollars, which is more than 20x the GDP of the entire world.
16649  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which one is the best cryptocurrency next to bitcoin? on: February 03, 2018, 02:56:40 PM
Bitcoin is the most valued crypto currency and the currency with the highest Return on Investment (ROI).

No it isn't. In fact it is one of the lowest ROI in the top 100.

Which one is the best cryptocurrency next to bitcoin?

It depends what you mean by "best". Ethereum and Neo have contracts. Nano is fast and fee-less. XLM allows staking. KCS pays dividends. Doge has the memes. etc, etc.
16650  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: elderhash.com legit or scam? on: February 03, 2018, 02:33:23 PM
Click on their website.

First thing I see "Daily profit forever - 14%".

Immediately close.

It's so obviously a scam.

14% daily profit is impossible. Furthermore, 14% daily profit compounded is over 5000% a month. If someone can make their money 50x a month, why the hell would they need other people to invest? I would only need to start with $10 to be a millionaire in 3 months if it were true.
16651  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why does bitcoin have value? on: February 03, 2018, 01:12:22 PM
For the same reason gold, diamonds, precious metals, etc, have value. Because society has deemed these things valuable even though they have no intrinsic purpose, and so people will pay fiat for them.
16652  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitwatcher - Watch multiple cryptocurrencies on different exchange markets on: February 03, 2018, 01:09:42 PM
1 - Actually we already got this feature Smiley You can just add your favorite coins to "my watch" by touching their checkbox on the left. For example, you only want Bitcoin on Bitfinex and Binance, you can just select them in Bitcoin menu. Then you will only see them on "My Watch". So this "My Watch" is your favorite coins with your favorite exchange market Smiley

2 - We are looking for adding more coins. We got Bitcoin Cash in our mind for now. But we want to add coins which are useful for frequent watch. So coin suggestions are also welcome Smiley

1 - Didn't realise that! Really nice feature. Well done.

2 - This is obviously most useful for people who want to arbitrage. With that in mind, coins that are fast and cheap to transfer are probably the best ones to add next - LTC, XLM, XRB for example.
16653  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Has anyone heard about Pinkdate? on: February 03, 2018, 10:33:37 AM
Had a quick scan of their Whitepaper. You can find it here: https://pinkdate.is/pinkdate-white-paper-2018.pdf

A couple of points:

50% profits will be distributed to investors, NOT customers as you said.

They are predicting 700,000 transactions per year within 3 years of launch. That is completely naive for what is a niche market (escorts) inside a niche market (crypto). There is no chance they will hit this target.
16654  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Rizzle on: February 03, 2018, 10:22:48 AM
From your whitepaper:

Quote
As the user spends time utilizing our application to play a game, a small portion of the user device’s RAM and GPU (its computational resources) will be used to mine RZL. This is the reason why the user is rewarded RZL, a coin that implements a Proof of Work Consensus Mechanism.

For that reason, I'll pass. I don't allow websites to slow down my computer by mining in the background when I'm just browsing the web. I'm certainly not going to allow your platform to slow things down when I'm trying to game.
16655  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitwatcher - Watch multiple cryptocurrencies on different exchange markets on: February 03, 2018, 10:08:21 AM
Very nice start. Clean, quick interface.

I would suggest two things:

1 - allow users to pick exchanges to view - I'm not signed up on every exchange, and am only interested in the prices on exchanges I use. The others just clutter up the screen.
2 - add more coins!
16656  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Only 21.000.000 Bitcoins in existance on: February 03, 2018, 10:02:35 AM
Some are angry at me that they bought in December but they are not seeing the bigger picture.

This. Open up any bitcoin graph and zoom out a bit. We are still up x10 in a year. In any traditional market this is insane growth.

Blockchain technology is here to stay. It can't be "uninvented". What percentage of people do you think know about bitcoin? 1-2%? And how many of them actually own any bitcoin? Again, 1-2%? This is still early days.
16657  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🔶🔷Whole New ETTA Games | Dice & Casino | Deposits/Cashouts Without Delay🔷🔶 on: February 03, 2018, 09:48:54 AM

Congratulation for the win. You were a tough competitor I must admit.
How did you achieve such a big amount of points 5.4m+ to give a hard fight? No one was near you.
I think you played all day long to accumulate such amount of points. Roll Eyes If it is true, then your effort let you win not your luck. You have written your fate by your own hand.  Smiley

Thank you! Yes, I played a lot. My statistics on my profile page say well over 30k individual bets. Time consuming, but worth it in the end Cheesy
16658  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is there any job for newbie ?? on: February 02, 2018, 08:51:38 PM
Go have a look in the Services Board. That's generally where people post offering jobs.
16659  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Stuck TX on: February 02, 2018, 08:44:38 PM
Go have a look in the Services Board. There are many people offering free transaction accelerators. I have previously used free ones to confirm a transaction where I mistakenly paid 7 sats/b instead of 70. Got it confirmed in about 6 hours.
16660  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Fees on: February 02, 2018, 07:55:45 PM
Yes! Both Lightening Network & a future Block Size increase will result in smaller fees & perhaps faster confirmations.

Pretty much this. The fees will reduce and speed will increase in the future, as the new changes are rolled out. The question is whether another coin that is cheaper and faster (such as Ethereum), or even instant and free (such as Nano/RaiBlocks) beats Bitcoin out before then.

In the meantime, fees are actually pretty low. You can see the current mempool and estimated transaction times at the sites below:
