1701  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone buying Ether ? on: November 11, 2014, 04:51:00 PM
So how's Ether going now ?
din't heard any good new news on it :/

Its up next year. these things don't happen overnight. I haven't invested in it, but may look into it after release if the economics look good.

For all those following all these, how does NXT look? I picked a few, but haven't looked to see if they have interesting projects lined up.

Yes, they had clearly mentioned in the initial sale that you won't be able to use ether until the next year.
That didn't seem to affect demand, though.
1702  Economy / Services / Re: Bitstars.net Signature Campaign – up to 0.1 BTC and more per month on: November 10, 2014, 04:55:55 PM
Hi Nick,

My name seems to be missing from that list. I received payment for last term and had confirmed pretty early that I wanted to continue for November.

On Friday, an underground website calling itself Silk Road 3.0 Reloaded claimed to be open for business on the TOR network, which is linked globally through special browsers that encrypt internet traffic.

Another interview, in which he seems to be getting it right.

"Today, we cannot imagine life without WiFi even for five minutes. Where was the internet 10-15 years back? Similarly, I feel Bitcoins shall be the ruling currency five to ten years from now," asserted the author, whose latest book is about how the lives of gamers, politicians and bankers are determined by the virtual currency.

Japanese Scholars Draft Proposal for a Better Bitcoin

http://www.coindesk.com/japanese-scholars-draft-proposal-better-bitcoin/

A team of Japanese researchers has published a paper with a set of proposals it says would improve bitcoin, effectively creating a hypothetical low-volatility digital currency called 'improved bitcoin' (IBC).

The work explores the problem of bitcoin's instability from an economic viewpoint, suggesting a new monetary policy rule – effectively, monetary policy without a central bank – for stabilizing the values of bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies.

The new rules, they say, are based on currency board principles and inflation targeting.
1707  Local / India / Re: How to create OFFLINE Transaction? on: November 09, 2014, 02:55:55 AM
Private key is converted into public key from one way cryptography thereafter it is used to sign transaction etc etc. Is it possible to create a offline transaction?

I mean do all necessary things offline then it would result in some "lengthy random string" which can only be understand and processed by network. Once that lengthy random string is made we can convert into some hash of 32 bytes. Then write it on paper and then decrypt '32 bit hash'  with computer connected to internet to yield "lengthy random string" which can be broadcast to network?

I don't know much about cryptography. But, I think. It is possible. How can I do it to ensure security of my private key?

If you are using electrum

1708  Local / India / Re: Western Union CEO states bitcoin is of no use to developing nations right now! on: November 08, 2014, 03:31:23 AM
Only thing saving Western Union is the archaic laws. I don't see those going away soon, so they are safe for now.

Correct. Ask all transmitters to have huge documentation requirements and KYC norms. A start up company using bitcoin would be hard pressed to ensure compliance.

1712  Local / India / Re: Bitcoin as a villain? on: November 07, 2014, 12:04:59 AM
Bitcoin is bad in its current avatar. That’s why it’s the villain of my latest novel

bitcoin is not villian
its superhero and have the power of cryptography

I guess a book where bitcoin is the superhero won't sell as well as a book where it is the villain.  Tongue
1713  Local / Press & News from India / Re: India Bitcoin startups on: November 06, 2014, 12:09:21 AM
Good to see a familiar name (Benson) in more articles.  Smiley

Bengaluru is home to over a quarter of these startups. Benson Samuel, CTO & Founder of CoinSecure, is committed to spreading Bitcoin awareness in the country. The Founder of Bangalore Bitcoin Meetup says in his blog that cryptocurrencies offer a level playing field to Indian entrepreneurs since they are as global as email. It opens up crowdfunding opportunities from anywhere in the world to infuse Bitcoin startups with funding.
1714  Local / India / Re: Western Union CEO states bitcoin is of no use to developing nations right now! on: November 06, 2014, 12:06:34 AM
The key point is they (virtual currencies) do not currently have practical uses for consumers in underdeveloped nations
He may be right in that. If they did, Western Union and others would have seen their earnings decline sharply.
1715  Local / India / Re: Central bankers are morons on: November 05, 2014, 04:48:04 PM
The title of the article  is just framed for more TRP. It doesn't really back it up.

And yes, saying that they are morons is a bit extreme

They were successful in their aim. Smiley
Especially when it is a reputed site, titles like these draw more clicks.
1716  Local / India / Re: Bitcoin as a villain? on: November 05, 2014, 04:46:37 PM
When is it expected?

The movie based on God is a Gamer? The rights have just been sold.. I don't think you can expect to see the movie any time soon.

1718  Local / India / Re: [ANN] New Bitcoin Exchange in India- No Transaction Fee on: November 05, 2014, 12:32:16 AM
There seem to have been no transactions after October 6th.
Liquidity seems to be non-existent. Is this the case across exchanges in India?

I'd like to be proven wrong, but it seems that the Bitcoin tide is slowly diminishing in India.

The merchant movement in India does not have a strong partner as yet.
Betting that its gonna change through 2015.

Some new merchants accepting bitcoin could provide a flip to the movement.
My bets would be on flipkart.  Grin

At least I see some buyers and sellers in this forum.
Otherwise, people might begin to think they are stuck with their bitcoins.  Grin
