1722  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: There will be blood. on: June 15, 2011, 04:00:11 PM
At that point demand for BTC will be reduced because of reduced liquidity

BTC will go way down in price

Hogwash. Look at drug prohibition and you will see this won't be the case.

Interesting parallel. Does it fly? Everyone can get high (but they don't), most people who do, enjoy it. Some MUST get high due to their addiction. However its not a socially acceptable practice in many circles, can have serious health risks, and there is always the threat of legality.

Everyone can use bitcoins (will they), and most people will enjoy using and spending them. Some MUST have bitcoins to get HIGH. ;^) Currently there are no serious social ramifications except for ridicule and scoffing (unless one counts losing GF due to spending entire budget on mining hardware). Currently there are no legal issues, although that could change overnight.

1723  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Google Trends vs Mt Gox USD: Graphs on: June 15, 2011, 03:46:57 PM
Essentially you have discovered that:

The more people that invest in a commodity, the greater its value? And its reverse is true as well.

The majority of Google trends hits will not lead to investment.

A lot of people are following the bitcoin phenomena purely out of curiosity. I think your observation is interesting, but definitely an oversimplification.

1724  Economy / Economics / Re: Everyone understands that this wont last right? on: June 12, 2011, 08:14:00 PM
Oh please, bitcoin doesn't have any oil, theres no way the US government will do anything other than crush it completely if it's used to fund terrorism.

which if its untraceable, and goes beyond our borders our politicians A wont understand and B exactly what you said is what they will think.

What makes you think they WONT think its funding terrorism?

That is such a retarded argument, because, if I recall, the world reserve currency is the US dollar, and as such, all wholesale terrorism is funded using US dollars. Untraceable bills, by the way.

Hi guys!

I was the very first guy to use VirtEX, on June the 9th.  Cheesy

Called Joseph from VirtEX on the phone, we had nice chat. He's a well-spoken Albertan who went out of his way to help me.

Sold a couple dozen BTC and even though their site is beta,  I was able to trade without significant issues. Got paid through interac, it worked perfectly.

They are still working on the site, not all features are working yet. Basic depositing and trading BTC was very smooth in my experience. Highly recommended.

TheYogi:

Please don't get me wrong. Buying rainforest land is great, a real step forward. But anytime I see the phrase "carbon footprint" my blood starts to boil.
1728  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [Pool] EcoCoin - Offset your carbon footprint! Profits buy trees and rainforest on: June 10, 2011, 04:58:40 AM
I am all for planting trees and keeping the planet healthy. But I am opposed to the idea of a carbon footprint. Trees are important for keeping the air clean of pollutants (carbon dioxide is NOT a pollutant, its essential for life).

Carbon dixoide is absorbed by the oceans (over 70% of the earth's surface is ocean) when the earth is cooler (when the sun is not as active). Similarly, carbon dioxide is released by the oceans when the earth gets warmer (when the sun is very active with sunspots and solar flares). This all means that increased carbon dioxide levels FOLLOW global warming. It does NOT cause it.

It really is that simple.

To sum up, trees are free. No one owns them, anyone can go plant a tree on their own, there is no need a for a "carbon footprint fund".

I'd like to thank Al Gore for making this little rant (necessary).

1729  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Here are some IN-STOCK 5830s for your viewing & buying pleasure. on: June 10, 2011, 04:11:53 AM
Whatever. ATI 68xx and 69xx series will sell out earlier than expected, unless Bitcoin price doesn't match difficulty. (or crashes). That means higher profits for AMD.
1730  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Here are some IN-STOCK 5830s for your viewing & buying pleasure. on: June 10, 2011, 04:07:47 AM
Sure it does. New gamers, and everyone who hadn't already upgraded to 58xx will be forced to purchase the newer 68xx and 69xx series, whether they were planning to or not. Then those cards will dry up. And guess what? We will not see any 68xx and 69xx discount sales AT ALL. They will just sell out at normal prices long before that can ever happen.

I guarantee AMD did not see this coming, they won't have enough cards.
1731  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Sapphire 5850's gone for good... on: June 10, 2011, 03:21:35 AM
5830 are not OOS , and they're not that efficient at mining.

No, they aren't as efficient as a 5850 & use slighty more power. But they are efficient enough. The hash-rate per unit is important.

And yes, they are out of stock in Canada almost everywhere.

And anyone who actually believes the 9/11 Truther movement...I don't even know what to say.

And anyone who actually believes a plane hit the Pentagon...I don't even know what to say.

Sigh. Really, stop smoking pot or stop reading rubbish conspiracy sites. The cleanup operation was done by hundreds of normal firefighters (and paramedics for immediate aftermath), many of which have publicly spoken about it, including about the plane wreckage and parts. The blackboxes of AA 77 have been found there, too. (as have been the remains of the plane, many parts of which can be seen on photographs).

Really, where do you think the US government is hiding all those AA-77 passengers? Or did they kill them so they wouldnt talk?  Roll Eyes

The pentagon probably has the highest density of security cameras on the planet. And yet - NOT ONE FRAME of a passenger aircraft was ever shown to the public. Are you really that gullible?

Two police officers and a civilian reported that the "aircraft" flew on the north side of the Citgo gas station across the freeway from the Pentagon. The 9/11 Commision claimed that it flew on the SOUTH side of the gas station, with broken street lamps as evidence. But you accept the official story? I guess accuracy isn't that important to you.

1736  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: [[3 BTC BOUNTY FOR THE ANSWER]] Help me get my 4th card up on GUIMiner on: June 07, 2011, 12:53:58 AM
I have a similar board with space for four 2-slot cards. Mine is the 790FX-GD70 and i have all four slots occupied with Radeons, NOT in crossfire, and all are working in Win7 x32 with SDK 2.1 and Catalyst 11.5.

Did you run Windows Update? I have all the latest updates installed.
1737  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: [[3 BTC BOUNTY FOR THE ANSWER]] Help me get my 4th card up on GUIMiner on: June 07, 2011, 12:08:14 AM
Maybe its a bad PCI-express slot. Get a can of compressed air and clean out the slots. Could also be a bad motherboard.

Try swapping the cards to different slots. If one card is bad, it will show in a different slot.

Also try rolling back to SDK 2.1 using system restore.

I use SDK 2.1 and I get faster hash rates than other people with similar hardware.

Failing that, you want to try uninstalling all the GPU's in device manager, then click re-scan for new hardware.

No no, I am solo mining on a LAN. Is the time_wait status normal for RPC connections? (netstat -b in commandline).

I wanted to switch to public pool mining just to test for valid shares as a way to prove that my hardware is good.
