A mobile device a totally different beast to a PC. I have run exclusively linux-based OSs for almost a decade now and can be fairly confident that any system I install is clean upon installation. To do the same on a mobile device I don't think there is any way other than by voiding your warranty. Iphone - no. Windows Phone - no. Android - no.  Although Android is open source all manufacturers and some operators install their own skins on  devices, and come with GApps installed, which are not open source. Of course being open source does not guarantee it is 100% secure, nor is closed source a sure sign of malintent, but I just want to illustrate that we are not dealing with PCs here, where more control is possible. An unofficial app can shun all responsibility but an official app probably doesn't have that luxury.

As I said, it's about finding a compromise that you individually are happy with - degree of insecurity vs hassle. You can stuff linux onto an android phone if you really want to, but you're still using closed source hardware to run the whole shebang on...

There isn't a one-stop shop or one-click solution to keeping you safe from MI6/Mossad/NSA, whoever. But you can certainly escape your greedy ex...  Grin

What I would suggest is instead of charging per message, you create a membership system

Membership implies record-keeping, so no. Keep it volatile, and therefore untraceable.

Actually, I was wondering about using BTC via your mobile device and or computer in a [coffee] shop vs. DRK

It strikes me that DRK is 100,000x better for mobile devices than BTC

You're right - it doesn't matter what connection you use, BTC is traceable, DRK via DS+ isn't. You can still be pinpointed in spacetime, but nobody can prove what you were up to transactionally. Assuming you cover your phone screen and nobody nearby is Van Eck phreaking you with a portable SQUID.

Ideally, you'd just send a coded txt message to a hot brunette in Panama who's forever indebted to you because you once saved her entire village from a plague of zombie alien tentacle-horrors, and she'd do the Darksend for you with dumped privkeys written in rapidly fading ink sent via burner carrier-buzzards. Or something. Don't forget to wear a pretty gingham frock and a good wig.

Or just wait a few weeks for DarkTransit. Wink

So perhaps the mobile wallets should be forgotten about.

Why?

There is no such thing as perfect security, just varying degrees of insecurity and associated inconvenience. If you're really wanted by the powers that be, it doesn't matter, they'll just bundle you into a black van and you'll never be seen again. For the rest of us, reasonable precautions will keep you reasonably safe.

If you were sat in a coffee shop or walking down the street, how do you stop your wif-fi connection leaking information about you; and then you and your BTC spends?

edit

good enough?

bump

Just disable wifi on the device until you need it and can connect securely. If in doubt, remove the battery.  Wink

Your mobile phone company almost certainly logs your phone's every movement, wifi on or not. Remove the battery and sim card.

How do you maintain full anonymity if the discussion surrounding the financial transaction cannot be protected? Also, what if an app starts snooping on wallet activity on people phones, so basically their information isn't on the blockchain, its everywhere else where you can't track it. You would probably need to isolate the Darkcoin app from other apps, basically have a kind of firewall built into to it that would protect access from being gained by apps you gave specific permissions to when installing. Here I go again... lol. Have a great day Evan and thanks for your update. I'll keep a look out for any updates and developments.
I'm not part of the development team, so I'll take bit of time off from this board with all these ideas. They might be confusing things and its a full time job just keeping up with the posts, cheers and namaste.

These are legitimate concerns. Let's say my kids download lots of virus-infected games, is there a way of protecting the wallet from potentially malicious external applications? Another option, at least with Android, is to encourage dual booting with one "clean" system alongside a daily driver and to install the wallet on the clean system. Not currently possible on all phones though and support would be an absolute nightmare

It's up to users to secure their own devices.

Don't install malware, don't let your kids install malware, wipe all the pre-installed crapware, only run your wallet from a secure usb linux distro... whatever, it's your responsibilty, not that of anyone else.

Darkcoin has been added to VC Fundamentals Research Platform (http://vcfundamentals.com/Currency_Details_2.php?id=336)

Dev team please contact us for an interview

Follow us on twitter: https://twitter.com/VCFundamentals

I have asked them to make a DarkCoin Trading Bot

https://www.sembrodevelopment.com/custom-configurations/

Keep sending them requests to make this happen :-)

They contacted me.
They said that it would be presented to their DEV team tomorrow :-)

What the fuck do we need more bots for?

Sir Crouton

Are there any particular difficulties with getting multisig working on Electrum?

LTC progress and on Bitcointalk

Quote
Does Electrum support sending to multi-signature addresses?

Yes Electrum does support sending to multisig addresses or P2SH addresses (addresses starting with '3').

https://electrum.org/es/faq.html#sending-to-P2SH-addresses

Looks (from reading that link, I haven't tried) like all it lacks is the ability to actually create the multisig address itself in-wallet, then pass it back along with the redeemScript key.

Just a few simple lines of code plus whatever GUI changes are needed to display the results.

The challenge with multisig isn't just having a simple GUI for it, it's the coordination and communication between the various parties.

(Any cherrypy experts here? I have everything else in place but the server config is aggravating me...  Angry )

I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed we're not going the route of a DarkTor equivalent.

Yet*

Seems like anybody (not just darkcoin core team) could develop an add-on for masternodes to create Darktor. Maybe after open source somebody will see this as a profitable business model and write the code to make it happen. Who knows. But probably better having the core team working on core issues.

I now think it's better if darkcoin does one thing (anonymity) and does it really really well. Like In N' Out Burgers or Bakesale Betty's in Oakland CA, they make amazing fried chicken sandwiches, nothing else. Line out the door every day. Man I'm hungry.

All that's needed for a DRK TOR-beater is for the IP obfuscation and encrypted comms to be integrated and accessible to 3rd parties.

At that point, I can guarantee you that some kind of MasterNet will become a reality, because if nobody else beats me to it, it will be called CroutonNet.

Someone please point me to a single instance, in all of human history, where censorship/prohibition has either worked (at all) or led to the greater good.

For the first time ever, this week I have detected a sense of inevitability surrounding the prospect of Scottish independence.

If the UK isn't gone by the end of this month it's certainly holed below the waterline.

The argument has been comprehensively won. M Thatcher broke it up, we're just putting it out of its misery.

What has this got to do with DRK ?

Everything.

Great stuff! Now we just need to get rid of the Welsh, and Yorkshire!  Wink

Hi thelonecrouton,

I understand what you are saying. Some different perspectives here and that's awesome! By the way I'm a fan of your multisig efforts, thank you! I'll try to answer you best I can:

How can you determine what to filter if you can't see it? Everything on MasterNet should be computationally unfeasable to snoop, or the whole thing's pointless. ---- Well if information is going to be shared it needs to be visible, its the access to it which will be safe right? What I'm mainly understanding right now is that whoever would use the safenet would have their personal data protected and also not be tracked online. Like Tor but better. People will see what is one it, but an individual's personal activity will be protected, basically a guarantee of an individuals rights of freedom. So I don't understand fully your comment ''or the whole thing is pointless''.

Because you can't. And if you can, the system is worthless. ----- why? Here also, is the point supposed to be porn? So if it addresses all security and privacy issues and doesn't do porn its useless?  Smiley

This is just gibberish. Porn exists, it's big business, why would I as a MN owner want to turn away revenue? ---- Here I have another question, is there more money in pornography or in all the other sectors of the world combined?

If you don't like porn, avoid it, what other people do is none of your business - you know, the whole fucking point of Darkcoin? ---- I know what you are saying here too... However, ask yourself what are the two main things governemnets say about anonymity online? They say it helps hide terrorists and criminals like pedophiles. If we eliminate the pedophile angle their terrorist angle will be the only one left and it will be easier for us to win on one front than two. For the terrorism thing, I guess we will have to work on a world where people no longer want to do such things because their is no reason to. We can also point out how cash is no different in that case too....

well the pedophiles hurt the children thats the point there (the governments too), and it doesn't hurt anyone to not have regular porno on something that doesn't exist yet if they can already find it somewhere else and if that thing isn't meant for that... As for the technically impossible thats not my specialty, I'm just throwing some ideas out there for the community... I'm surprised you think pornography has such an important place in a safenet. Good discussion on these challenging ideas...  Smiley

I don't think you do. I don't really give a damn about porn, but I care about privacy.

For MasterNet to be useful to anyone, it has to be completely private, anonymous and secure. If anyone can see what you are up to except yourself, it is broken and worthless.

And if it is completely private, anonymous and secure, there is no way to filter or censor content.

And I don't care what idiot politicians babble about, the NSA funds TOR, supposed haven of child molesters and Al Quaeda, expecting anything other than nonsense from such people is futile.

1738  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | DarkSend+ Is Live! on: September 01, 2014, 10:40:47 PM

I wasn't really thinking about a clean internet, I was thinking about cleaning up the existing internet and providing a place where adult stuff could be moved onto, and charge the little fuckers that produce that stuff - backed by pressure groups and governments to move to our MN service.

Mrs. Robinson, from memory Google started out with just 250 networked computers that were storing data. Now look at them, they are like SkyNet.

As everything moves to the cloud, servers, processing power and bandwidth are dropping in price as competition heats up.  Its a good time to get thousands of big fat MN servers all serving up your porn of choice, with those thousands and thousands of seedy little Hugh Henfer wannabes paying MNs for he privilege of servicing their clients needs.

Sanity returns!   Grin
1739  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | DarkSend+ Is Live! on: September 01, 2014, 10:38:31 PM
The SafetyNet nodes wouldn't be able to see content. SafetyNet could make it known the content it blocks from the off. No need to comb the content.

How can you determine what to filter if you can't see it? Everything on MasterNet should be computationally unfeasable to snoop, or the whole thing's pointless.

why not make the new internet pornography content free from the very beginning?

Because you can't. And if you can, the system is worthless.

I know censorship is terrible. I'm just thinking since pornography already has its place it would not be censured only channeled to a specific spot, the old internet. If porn was relegated to the old internet there would be no reason to have it on the new one because if people were really concerned about hiding what porno they watch they can buy a dvd or go through the original Tor on the old internet if they want to. This way no one can see what they are doing and if they are concerned about compromising their IP adresse with relation to pornography irrelevant of content they are surely into something wrong. (maybe politics  Smiley ) and what is the government going to do or say, they are watching some kind of porn? This would silence any claims of relation between anonymity on the web and child pornography once and for all. We need to eventually work to take that stick away from them might as well do it now.

This is just gibberish. Porn exists, it's big business, why would I as a MN owner want to turn away revenue?

If you don't like porn, avoid it, what other people do is none of your business - you know, the whole fucking point of Darkcoin?

If the user could filter content, that's fine, but we can't do it for them.

What if it was voted on by the users of the system through a voting system built directly into the client?

And to enforce the removal of an infraction, the removal must be proposed by a system user and also collectively voted on, if the vote chooses to remove it it should be automatically removed and the user who posted it should have a suspension of access for a period of time depending on prior suspension, this would stop any fake copyright similar issues from appearing too like has been happening on youtube.

What part of "what other people do is none of your business as long as it isn't harming you in any way" is not clear to you?  Also, see my previous comments about it being technically impossible anyway.
1740  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | DarkSend+ Is Live! on: September 01, 2014, 09:44:30 PM
SafetyNet could be made up of willing masternodes that have sophisticated child locks that can't be tampered with by the child.

Nothing is childproof.   Huh

More seriously, I am absolutely against any kind of content filtering on both technical, legal and moral grounds. And that's a lot of boths!

Techinical: everything should be encrypted, the system shouldn't be able to determine the content anyway.

Legal: when you allow some things but not others (or try to) you lose your common carrier status and become legally responsible for said content.

Moral: fuck censorship.
