10k on bitcoins is your safest investment

NXT is probably your best bet.

People who think the price too high, or unfair distribution, etc -  there’s really not much you can do to convince stakeholders otherwise (or according to rickyjames the top 51 accounts with over 78% of all NxT's) - conflict of interests, beating a dead horse. And they have that right/privilege, and I don't judge them for it. I'd be doing the same thing. But, the stakeholders, and all NxT holders for that matter, can’t exist in the long term without attracting new buyers - buyers have power, too.

The only impact you can really make, as a new buyer, is to choose to buy them at a price you're comfortable with. Bring down demand to what YOU believe is the right valuation for NxT, especially since no new coins can be obtained/mined as with other coins. What do you think it’s worth today? Everybody has their own number. Others just follow the herd and buy at market - poor strategy.

People talk of strategy, and this is mine: two months ago, all 1 Billion coins were acquired at about $4,000 between 73 people. Today, two months later, what do you think all the 1 Billion coins should be worth today? 100x? 1000x? or what current levels say - 4000x-6000x, or $40-80 Million in total? My personal number (and it's not the holy grail, just my opinion, and I put my mouth where the exchange is via a limit order) is 1000x - that’s a 100,000% 2-month return for original risk taken, for something where the source hasn't been released to the public - still pretty damn good - can you name any asset that achieved such a return in 2 months, or even close?

Fair or unfair, I don’t care - this is crypto-capitalism, and such talk of fairness is weak, but everybody has their number as to what they believe is a reasonable return, i.e., a reasonable valuation, for NxT, i.e., a reasonable price to pay if all the information is made aware to the public and is easily obtainable (such info as original IPO amount of $4,000). My number is around 1000x, so that would mean a price of about .000021-.00004. So, that’s what I’m waiting for. Yeah, I still have a small position, and managed to just get some .00006, but I won’t be investing more until it goes back to those levels. And I bet other potential investors sitting in my shoes are thinking something along these lines. At least while the technology is still closed source and has not been peer reviewed by a wider audience, 1000x is plenty.

Don't be hating on me for having an opinion, and calling me out. As long as the price stays in the 3000x-6000x levels, I'll keep reminding potential new buyers of the information they may not have been able to obtain themselves - and the choice is up to them whether to buy or not. Indeed, the market seems to be responding in my favor, whether my babble had any effect or not. I might be the big elephant in the room, but I'm not the only one with these opinions - others have noted similarly, perhaps less bluntly.

Your buy target is arbitrary and low.  Thus, you might miss your chance to buy.

zerothegreat,

I am sure everybody understands there are risks. There are no places to put your money without risks. I am not advocating that everybody should sell their homes and buy NXT with the proceeds.

As long as people understand what NXT is and have a proper timeframe, measured in months or even years, and that there are risks, that is what is important.

Best to underpromise and overdeliver.

The purpose of all investments is to make more money, or at least protect it from devaluation. I have not seen anywhere anything to the contrary. People tend to want money because it is money. NXT community is not purely profit driven, as there are many volunteers who are putting in a lot of hours, relative to their stake size. A lot of us feel that we are part of something big, something that will transform the world for the better. To some, that is more important from money, but money is good too.

James

NXT is climbing again.
1747  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I wonder how high Nxt will go on the 3rd? on: December 28, 2013, 12:15:43 PM
January 3rd is the official launch of Nxt when the open source documents are revealed. I wonder what price we will be looking at?

I think around 0.0003

Firstly, there's a lot of NXT, which means it remains inexpensive, even as many people buy it up.  This means NXT is able to increase in price over a prolonged period of time.  Also, it cannot be mined and initial stakeholders are incentivised to continue to hold their NXT, so there is unlikely to be much dumping of NXT as the price increases.  We have already seen this.

Therefore, I have my short term target around $0.35 per NXT, which is somewhere around 0.0003 BTC (depending on the value of BTC/USD).

Long-term, as the the NXT decentralised exchange becomes the go-to for trading crypto-currency, I see the price of NXT settling somewhere above $1 easily.

I've been comparing the graph on http://coinmarketcap.com to the order book on the dgex.com and they don't match up.  For example, right now http://coinmarketcap.com is showing 0.072 and dropping price, but so far all day dgex has been trading above 0.07, so I don't see where that decline has come from.

Now, does anyone know why NXT is not appearing on http://coinmarketcap.com ?

it's at the bottom of the list. links to index price etc. are not connected.

How's decentralised exchange UI coming along?
1750  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 27, 2013, 08:27:46 PM
20,000 Litecoins get created a day or something. That's $400,000 new coins getting dumped or hoarded everyday.

NXT? 0 coins get created every day.

Just from one single exchange we've seen how far the price has rocketed. Wait until more features start rolling out. If Ripple can get to 2 billion market cap I don't see why NXT can't challenge for that spot.

Agreed.  NXT changes all the rules.  People are unfamiliar and make the wrong assumptions.

I am highly bullish on NXT, short-term and long-term.  The price is very attractive.

Now, does anyone know why NXT is not appearing on http://coinmarketcap.com ?

Keep up the great work NXT devs and community.

Thanks.

NXT is not listen on http://coinmarketcap.com again.

Why does this keep happening?

OK, got the go-ahead from our generous donator, the nxt faucet now gives a random amount of 1 to a maximum of 5 coins per user.

Try it out if you haven't yet: http://nxtra.org/faucet/

this guy can´t be serious...

http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=3000&acc=14335468932354642520

You have 50M and go for the 5 Nxt from the faucet?
I know you are reading this.

I've just enabled it so that anyone above 1,000,000 will not receive any coins. (Perhaps that is even too high).

Anyway, original founder, please consider donating a million or so to the faucet. That way I can give out 1,000 nxt to everyone.

+1 major stakeholders should definitely be donating a few M to the faucet.

How is the progress with the UI for the decentralised exchange going?  What is the estimated launch date?
1754  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 26, 2013, 10:55:15 PM
haha. people in the btc-e trollbox are talking about nxt already Smiley

NXT is something worth talking about.
1755  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 26, 2013, 08:45:33 PM
It also depends on how much Nxt you have and your appetite for risk. If I am holding 20million + Nxt right now, I will probably sell some eventhough I have a very high expectation for Nxt. But since I have much less than that I am going to sit tight at least until 1Nxt = 0.001 Btc.
So as times goes one, we will gradually have a more equal distribution of Nxt.
Why BTC-centric?  I have some BTC, but they just sit on an SD card.  Doing nothing.  Been bored since I moved them off (for tax reasons).  Nxt has been quite interesting thus far.  Aliases, Messaging, Colored Coins - Oh my!

Expand functionality or die.

Gordon Brown, is that you?

Also, everyone knows

First rule of crypto - don't sell too soon.
1757  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 26, 2013, 08:41:12 PM
Maybe selling is going on too slow, for my taste the price is rising too fast, but that's how it goes.
I'd like to see some statistics about distribution of NXT. If 90% is in the hands of the (73) first-stakeholders and only the trading of the remaining 10% is generating the price of NXT, that would be bad in my eyes. We need more distribution! That would help a lot, regarding the public view of NXT.

Don't worry. Soon we'll get more DDoS attacks, black PR and other similar things. Some of the major stakeholders will lose confidence and sell most of their coins.

I've been thinking about it... wondering why the major stake holders sell so slowly.

Then I realised, that unlike BTC, major holders of NXT are not inclined to sell much.  Why?  Because the NXT they hold is their "mining/forging hardware".  They will just continue mining and selling what they mine.  Perhaps they will sell a few million or hundred thousand here and there, but they will hold onto most of it.

Call this "Xibei's Principle".

So, major stake holders are not (and will not sell much) because

a) the NXT decentralised exchange is too groundbreaking
b) their NXT is their "mining hardware"

Additionally, unlike BTC, where you must keep buying more and more mining hardware to compete with increasing difficulty and other miners.  With NXT, your holding of NXT always pretty much mines you the same amount, no matter how many more people start mining.  There's no need to reinvest into more "mining hardware".  They would only sell at a very attractive price, and the price they have in mind will have the decentralised exchange in mind, probably like $10 per NXT.

Oh, and unlike BTC and other energy hungry proof-of-work systems where you mining hardware depreciates and must be replaced (as it get's older and slower and burns out), NXT's virtual "mining hardware" (aka your NXT holdings), appreciate in value.

So, that's why major stake holders don't sell fast and the market will not shake and the price will keep climbing.  They will just sell whatever they mine, a bit at a time.

NXT is genius.

1758  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 26, 2013, 08:15:43 PM
There will be panic sell, because the price will go back to December lows, closer to 0, due to constant huge DDoS and other attacks. Many stakeholders will panic sell for fear to lose all and will try to make at least part of their financial dreams to come true by trying to sell before others. When price gets to close to 0 again, that's when real distribution starts. We haven't seen nothing yet. My prediction anyway, take it with a grain of salt Smiley
I think so too. We will see a bigger drop in the price sometime, maybe sometime soon. Some of the current NXT buyers just want to make some quick money and will start to dump, or maybe one of the first-stakeholders will sell all their (millions of) NXTs. I hope NXT will survive this pricedrop.

Anyway if one/some first-stakeholder(s) will sell all their NXTs it will be good for the NXT network, it will stabilize the price after a bumpy ride because a wider distribution of NXTs. Smiley

I really doubt the price will come down.  I'd expect it to settle down at a much higher level that where we are currently.

In terms of spreading of NXT among new users, tons of selling is already going on, but the price keeps climbing.

NXT is a highly disruptive technology and everyone gets the big picture.  10 cents is a bargain.
1759  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 26, 2013, 07:55:30 PM

Whether it was paid or not doesn't really matter.  The word about NXT is spreading.
