Imagine how those of us waiting to get our shares back off Ken felt when the price dropped to below 0.004.
1742  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] The Official Active Mining Discussion Thread on: July 30, 2013, 06:42:15 PM

that was seriously fucking brilliant.
got more shares at decent prices, now just sitting here smiling wide.
Haha.

I know speculators managed to snap up alot of cheap shares because they do not hold on to AMC shares for too long and thus have BTC on hand, I am wondering how you "forever longers" have managed to do the same. Oh, have you also sold shares at the high even though you thought the fair price was infinity btc? Nah I think its just some attempt here by you to pump up confidence and the share price - which is good for me anyhow now that I bought in at the .006-.007 range - please continue to act this way so I can wait for the price to go to .008 - .009 again before I sell at the end of the day.

Nobody is pretending that these shares are worth "infinity". They're certainly worth more than 0.01 BTC though. If AM shares are worth 4.5 BTC and ActM is as successful and earned an equal amount of income, then ActM would be worth around 0.07 BTC. A fair estimate for ActM shares is 0.02 to 0.08 BTC depending on how successful it is.
1743  Economy / Securities / Re: ActiveMining Overview and Speculation Thread on: July 30, 2013, 06:19:50 PM
And this is why I don't hold my positions in this stock for more than a day at most. The risk of losing 20% value while I sleep is contradictory to the idea of getting any sleep in the first place.

Anyway, time to go and profit off of this sudden drop.

In the long term, ActM is easily worth more than 0.01 BTC. If you were holding it long term, these price fluctuations wouldn't matter to you.

Has there been a public demonstration of the chip?

Tried to get out but couldn't. I bought in at .007 after weeks of holding out.

They're still actually worth way more than 0.007 so I wouldn't worry about it. Just because some people have decided now would be a good time to take a loss, doesn't mean you have to follow suit.

1747  Economy / Securities / Re: ActiveMining Overview and Speculation Thread on: July 30, 2013, 04:51:19 PM
It's going down quick!

I predict it could stableize around .006

It went up way to quickly and soon, plus i'm sure people are liquidating to purchase Labcoin and possibly BTCgarden when they go live

Considering they're unlikely to go live for a few a day or two, they're selling way too early.

I personally dont think so, the odds of the price shooting back up above .008 to sell doesnt look good atm.

I think as this day progresses we will see more and more sell walls pop up.  Once we get a big one people will start to panic

I'm saying that if people are cashing out to reinvest in the IPOs, they're probably going to have to wait a couple of days.

We're already seeing a panic, and lot's of people are going to make a nice profit from it.

Couldn't this just be an Avalon chip order with lipstick?

Your tech and pricing for chips is no better, and too late, no?

What am I missing?

Labcoin's chip runs at 4.7 GH/s @ 2.7W per Gh/s for 9-10 USD.
Avalon's chip runs at 282 Mh/s @ 6.6W per Gh/s for 7.8 USD @ 100 USD/BTC.

Labcoin's chip seems superior to me.
1750  Economy / Securities / Re: Best Investment? on: July 30, 2013, 02:37:58 PM
Btc-garden and labcoin make me very confused, which one is better?

I'm not sure really, but I think both will likely see a 1000% ROI in a matter of weeks.

Also, Active Mining has already doubled in price since I made my initial post here, proving that ActM was a far better investment than AM at the time.

Active Mining can be a better short term investment, but for those who looks on a span of months it's definitely not going to be.

People investing in AM today won't see 200% ROI for years. People who invested in ActM when this thread began have already seen a 200% ROI in under a week with the potential for 1000% ROI by the end of year. I don't see how you can claim that AM is a better investment today.
1752  Economy / Securities / Re: Best Investment? on: July 30, 2013, 09:53:44 AM

Did AM have any product at their IPO?

Asking what the number of shares has to with anything is no different than asking what the price of each share has to with anything. You may as well be asking why TAT.AM is 100 times cheaper than AM-PT. The answer is obvious.

you have to understand that AM took totally unique opportunity which won't repeat itself. You think that Active Mining will make hole in the world with some Avalon chips? I don't think so...

There's nothing to stop the opportunity repeating. Also, if you think people are investing in ActM because they have a few Avalon chips, as opposed to them developing their own chips, then you don't know what you are talking about. Investors will jump at the chance to get in on the "next ASICMminer" early, and this has been proven with ActM.

Not only will ActM repeat AM's success, but I'm betting Labcoin and BTC Garden will as well.

1753  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs shipping 300 units a day on: July 30, 2013, 01:18:56 AM
It's probably fair to attribute 140 Th/s to AM and Avalon and with the network hash rate at around 250 Th/s, that leaves 110 Th/s to account for.
1754  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs shipping 300 units a day on: July 29, 2013, 11:40:19 PM
Since I know how bad you children are at maths, I will give you a hand.

USB devices initially cost 1.99 BTC and were later reduced to 0.99 BTC. With discount for bulk orders, the lowest price was 0.89 BTC. If every USB device sold at 1.99 BTC, then that's 18,856 units. If every USB device sold at 0.89 BTC, then that's 42,161 units. At 336 Mh/s per unit, USB Block Erupters make up between 6.336 Th/s and 14.166 Th/s.

There were 3 auctions for blades.

The first auction sold 2 for 76 BTC and 8 for 75 BTC. That's a total of 10 for 752 BTC.

The second auction sold 50 for a total of 2578 BTC.

The third auction sold 180 blades at a fixed price of 49.99 BTC each for a total of 8,998.2 BTC

So, 240 Blades were sold in the 3 auctions for a total of 12,328.2 BTC. By subtracting this value from the Blade Sales Income value, we get the following:

29,594.75 - 12,328.2 = 17,266.55 BTC

which is the amount of income from regular sales, with Blades costing 49.99 each or 47.99 with bulk discount. If every Blade sold at 49.99 BTC, then that's 345 units. If every Blade sold at 47.99 BTC, then that's 359 units. That puts the total number of Blades sold between 605 and 619 units. At 10.752 Gh/s per unit and 619 units, the total hashing power is 6.655 Th/s.

The total hashing power from USB BEs and Blades combined is between 12.991 Th/s and 20.821 Th/s. With the mining operation at 40 Th/s, AM have brought online about 60 Th/s.

Explain the remaining network hash rate assuming between 900 and 1500 Avalons have also shipped.
1755  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs shipping 300 units a day on: July 29, 2013, 09:41:20 PM
For homework, you children should calculate the hashing power AM and Avalon are responsible for bringing online so far. Add those 2 values together and add 20 Th/s (the network hash rate at the beginning of the year), then subtract this new value from the current network hash rate. You will have a number representing the hashing power brought online by everyone but AM and Avalon. Explain where this hashing power came from if not BFL.

The problem is that both ASICMiner and Avalon are opaque. We only know about units shipped in the public sale batches from Avalon, and the public farm ASICMiner reports on. Even so, with the first 2 batches from Avalon running at ~60TH (900 x 65GH/s) and batch 3 at 40TH/s (600x65GH/s) and ASICMiner public mine running at ~40TH/s that is almost 2/3rds of the network. ASICMiner sells blades to private investors as well and there is no way to know how many they made or sold. Legacy FPGAs & GPUs probably still account for between 10-20TH/s. The 30day estimate puts the network hashrate at 240TH/s

Back of the envelope says:
Avalon batches account for 100TH/s
ASICMiner public mine accounts for 40TH/s
FPGAs + GPUs 15TH/s (assuming a lot of hash power has left for Litecoin)
ASICMiner Block Eruptor Blades (10-13GH/s each ) & USB sticks + BFL = 125TH/s

ASICMiner Block Eruptor Blades have been shipping in bulk since early May.
BFL has been shipping Jalapenos since late April and Singles since June.
There is no way to know how much either company has shipped.

Batch 3 Avalons have only just started shipping and some people still haven't received batch 2 orders yet. It would be more reasonable to assume that 900 units have shipped rather than 1500.

AM recently released a financial report. It included the following:

Mining Income: 102,041.82BTC
Blade Sales Income: 29,594.75BTC
USB Sales Income: 37,524.00BTC

Once the asset is approved, where do we find out the time that shares will be open to the public

When it is unlocked we will set a time for the shares to be released for trading and communicate this through this thread and the Labcoin custom hardware thread at least a few hours in advance (slightly depending on what time of day we reach approval. We will likely release the security for trading during or close to US business hours.).

That would put quite a a lot of people at a major disadvantage. You should give at least 24 hours notice.
1758  Economy / Securities / Re: [LABCOIN] IPO [BTCT.CO] - Details/FAQ and Discussion (ASIC dev/sales/mining) on: July 29, 2013, 05:27:35 AM
Can you elaborate on why you are going with the 65nm process?

With ActiveMining proceeding with a 28nm process, how do you plan to compete?

The short answer here is that we simply do not believe that investing heavily in the absolute "bleeding edge" of technology is wise or necessary to achieve competitive results or profitability.

Labcoin is not a project that is primarily focused on developing the absolutely most "high tech" ASIC possible, but rather to reach the market quickly with the best hash rate per invested dollar.

If you had to choose between ordering a high density mining chip from butterfly labs or a well designed multicore chip based on a technically older design with lower density from Bitfury, what would you choose right now? (Not to mention a year ago, when Butterfly Labs started their process).

With parallel development teams and established contacts with foundries and manufacturing plants in China, we simply see more profitability in developing and producing chips and mining equipment based on tried and available technologies, then risking investor funds and delays in targeting next generation tech.

I hope this at least somewhat answers your question.

28nm isn't next gen tech, it's current gen. Also, BFL use 65nm whereas BitFury use 55nm. The comparison you should be making is between KnC on 28nm and BitFury on 55nm which have similare efficiency.

As for the question of what you would choose, I'd say the one which provides the best value, regardless of process used or the efficiency of the ASIC. An inefficient ASIC priced low enough can offer far more value than a higher priced, highly efficient ASIC.

I'm looking forward to the IPO.

If you haven't got a smart phone, you can use a program for your PC. A list of programs can be found here. I used MOS Authenticator on Windows 7 and had no problems.
If anyone has an investment worth more than $1000 I urge them to purchase a cheap used smartphone (costs like $50 on ebay) and wipe it before installing authenticator. Using a PC-based program is barely better than going without 2FA because if your password is stolen using a keylogger or trojan then your 2FA is also at risk. The whole point of 2FA is to have another device because then if your computer is compromised it's highly unlikely they also got your phone.

doesn't the code refresh every 60 seconds?

Yea it does.  It shocks me someone can be interested in BTC and have BTC denominated assets and not own a smartphone.
I have no need for a smart phone. I don't even really have a need for a mobile phone as I'm never mobile.

I've also been programming, building, troubleshooting and using computers for at least 2 decades now and I'm not worried that my computer or accounts may be compromised. I'm confident that my ability and experience will ensure my safety. I've only ever had my PC infected once and that was in the Windows 95 days when I'd first got online.

You are making the #1 mistake right now -- you're talking about it.  You just told the world that, and now somebody could theoretically target you..

Like I said I'm not worried. I'm confident in my abilities and experience to protect myself. Someone would most certainly need physical access and my lifestyle pretty much rules that out.
I somehow just pictured you living in a cave somewhere with a hardline connection to the internet.  Cheesy

To be honest, that probably wouldn't even bother me.

I hope your cocky attitude gets your shit jacked

It's not cockiness. For the past 27 years, I've lived and breathed computers. I learned to program on a ZX Spectrum at the age of 7. I'm not your average user. That's not a boast, that's just the reality of who I am.
