1761  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: mining pool on dedi server? on: November 01, 2017, 08:24:30 PM
You might get away with running a P2Pool node on a non-dedicated machine, but I doubt anything less then a dedicated server would handle a full pool reliably.
If someone like pooler that runs a large pool says differently, though, go with their experience.

1762  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Critique my Mining Room Setup on: November 01, 2017, 08:16:12 PM
Using both intake AND exhaust fans is a waste.
In fact, if your "cutouts" on the miners are tight enough, you might not need additional fans at all - the fans of the miners should get your air circulation going.

You WILL need more space for air intake and exhaust though if you are planning to run 600 AMPS worth of 220V mining in that room - most likely you'll need to replace BOTH windows with louvres or some such.

Breaker panels on the cold side and well away from the window is a VERY GOOD idea - don't change that part, except perhaps to put ALL the panels on the back wall not just 2 of the 3.
Breaker panels CAN be mounted in a vertical stack, if you leave enough space between them for wiring access - the code spec for "required height" is pretty wide.

Hi everyone, it's been a long time since when i was mining gridcoin, but for all of this months i've been of gridcoin's team on world cyber greed (WCG).
I was wandering...gridcoin is still minable with cpu?

YOYO, YAFU, both are CPU specific at this time to my specific knowlage.
I'm currently pulling a little over 20 GRC a day despite not making any special effort at CPU mining via YOYO.

There are a few other projects that are CPU-centric as well in the Gridcoin whitelist, but I don't remember which ones they are offhand.

top shot  the msi 1070 it will fit easy

Looks like the Zotac Mini would also fit.

I haven't seen mention of any low-end AM4 processor miner builds like the Biostar TB350-BTC Pro along with an AMD A6-9500.

Is there no interest in 6-GPU platforms any more?   Under $200 for MB & CPU.

https://www.amazon.com/Biostar-Motherboard-TB350-BTC-Express-Retail/dp/B072JGJ8NS

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B074BGXW9T/ref=dp_olp_0?ie=UTF8&condition=all&qid=1504224804&sr=1-1

OK, you just found me a viable AMD AM4 platform.

Problem with the AM4 based APUs so far is THEY HAVE VERY FEW PCI-E LANES, and most motherboards end up disabling one or more PCI-E slots when used with an A-series APU instead of a Ryzen.

1766  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: To mine Ethereum or Monero? on: November 01, 2017, 07:37:58 PM
Just have to watch the profitability on Monero - and I'd guess the "too many botnets" issue is more claimed than real.
1767  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Question rig on: November 01, 2017, 07:36:48 PM
Why is SSD more preferred than HDD as far as mining is concerned?

It's actually not - but at current pricing for 60 GB ssd M.2 drives, it's a lower cost option than most new hard drives, and some folks like not having to deal with the space a HD takes up.

1768  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GTX 1070 Ti is now pre-order on newegg.com on: November 01, 2017, 07:34:01 PM
Found this video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymO2VeIA8hc

shows 1070ti is doing 58Mh in eth mining .

is it true ?

Total fake, given that Bitcoin Gold still isn't mineable RIGHT NOW (but should be later today).

We saw some of the same lies about a "driver mod" a month or two back using the 1070.

Gridcoins for free

* top accounts from 2 BOINC projects which currently have no/enough WUs

https://steemit.com/gridcoin/@erkan/top-accounts-from-2-boinc-projects-which-currently-have-no-enough-wus

I still haven't quite figured out if you're actually supporting the project or trying to denounce it most of the time Cheesy

The 3 GRC pools are some of my primary competition on Moo Wrapper - grcpool-3 in particular has been breathing down my neck for a while now, though the Vega56 I have on order should give me some breathing space once I get it up and running.
They are "top accounts" due to massive participation far more than "taking advantage" of anything.

What I'm having issues with right now is a "new" wallet error, "Unable to send beacon! Unlock wallet!" that persists even when I DO unlock the wallet.
My last beacon send was 5 months back (May 31), I SHOULD NOT BE DUE TO HAVE TO SEND A NEW ONE yet.

3.6.3 wallet at least has been STABLE for me - no crashes or reboots in at least a week so far.

Innosilicon had *ONE* issue of "underperform" in their history - which was also the only case where they pre-announced a chip and miner before they had a working prototype in hand.
I assume ya mean their A1 chip? Power spec/speed was around 20% off... Ja could hit close to top rated speed but required proper DCDC bucks and heat sinks which the Dragons and most clones had but sadly Bitmine.ch and in turn AMT blew big time.

Too bad as as the AMT-branded Dragon clone I finally got from Josh was and still is a rock-solid 1THs miner. But after running non-stop for just a hair under 2 years just got too damn hungry to feed anymore...

They also had the A2 for Scrypt - which DOES meet specs reliably and was also a rock-solid design (adopted from the Dragon miners I believe), only issue there was the original PS in the 110Mh units was real marginal for trying to run full Turbo mode.

Needing proper board-level design to meet specs is to be EXPECTED on high-end chip design - that's where SFARDS fell down badly, looked like their mining CHIP was decent but they had the same garbage for board-level design that crippled them when they were still Gridseed.
It's also a large part of what killed KNC in the end.

12 GH / watt on SHA256 has been demonstrated both by Bitmain and by Bitfury on the current 14/16nm node - but Bitfury so far has only demonstrated it at the chip level, and I forget what the actual hashrate of the chip was in their demo videos at that efficiency level.

Putting a single mining chip on a PC-based motherboard though would be a total waste.
PCI-E cards would make more sense if you're going to put a miner in a standard computer - but reference Butterfly Labs for how the only cards (AFAIK) that were ever released in that form factor didn't make it in the market.

1771  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining GPU on: November 01, 2017, 07:14:50 PM
If you don't have a problem with electricity and cooling issue, 295x2 is one of the best option.
It shows the best ethereum hashrate among ALL single graphics cards, consumes a lot of power.
Very cost effective if you are free from electricity bill.

Most folks that know what the R9 295x2 is don't count it as a single card - it's 2 GPUs on one card, and the DRIVERS see it as 2 GPUs when counting against the "number of GPU limits" of the drivers.

It DOES make for a nice compact rig though, *IF* you can keep the beast fed and cooled.

1772  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: EWBF's CUDA Zcash miner on: November 01, 2017, 07:07:06 PM
how do i get the power usuage of gpu to display?

 --pec on the command line.

I think --pec 1 also works, or perhaps is needed.

"stratum subscribe timeout" sounds like you have an ISP issue, or the network interface on your mining rig died.
Could be an issue on the pool you're using though.

Windows update, ESPECIALLY ON WINDOWS 10, is notorious for BREAKING MINERS by forcing upgrades to drivers that often don't WORK.
It's one of the reasons I vastly prefer LINUX for dedicated mining rigs.

1773  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sixth alt coin thread I forgot to mod last thread. on: November 01, 2017, 07:03:38 PM

I have exactly the same behavior at one of my 1080ti rig... I still don't know why 3 cards from 6 are with the LEDs blinking white (I have 1080ti Aorus), although the cards are mining with no issue. The rig has 2 PSU and 2 cards connected to one + 1 card connected to the second PSU shows this behavior.... Does your cards are mining?

My Aorus always blink white when they have good power - might depend on the specific model or perhaps the default settings somewhere in the GPU BIOS for if they blink or not?
I've never messed with their "RGB" settings junk, as I consider that stuff to be a total waste of time and effort and would prefer that GPUs didn't HAVE that waste of money stuff on them.
1774  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sixth alt coin thread I forgot to mod last thread. on: November 01, 2017, 06:56:14 PM

Can anyone explain the red LED to me?
This is the card for reference (Asus 1080 TI turbo blower) http://amzn.to/2xIvsbQ

Presuming the same LEDs as on my 1070 version of that card, you have something wrong with power to the last 2 cards.

hello phil.

I have access to galax 1070 katanas for a little less than $450.

Are these cards any good?

Planning to get an 8gpu-riserless board + 7 of the galax 1070 katana and 1 zotac 1070 mini.

I can resell them to you or any one else. Just need to figure out cost effective shipping.

They're 1 slot wide, so while their base cooling is only so-so they should work fairly well in a riserless setup since their fans can get some AIR into them despite the crowding.
1776  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining GPU on: October 31, 2017, 10:34:18 PM
If you have free electricity then good for you, just make sure you are obtaining it the right and honest way.

With regards to the GPU you mentioned i believe those are fine. The r9 290s aren't used in normal GPU mining rigs because they consume a lot of electricity, but since you mentioned yours is free, it should be fine. For a more accurate benchmark of that GPU you can always visit online calculators like http://nicehash.com/?p=calc

Actually, there are quite a few R9 290 still in use in GPU mining rigs - and they are still quite profitable if you have low enough electric cost.

R9 295x2 is a lot less common as there weren't nearly as many made, and they don't have enough better cooling to be able to clock each GPU as high as the R9 290 can manage, but they're still viable on cheap electric.

1777  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 19GPU B250 Expert users, UNITE! on: October 31, 2017, 10:27:22 PM
The number of cards limit is not the motherboard, it is a DRIVERS limit.

I think I remember seeing at least one of the P106 mining cards listed on NewEgg, and Amazon should have sources for most or all of them.

You might need more CPU or more RAM to run that many cards on one motherboard.

1778  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Has anyone compared drivers from nvidia on 1070? on: October 31, 2017, 10:23:07 PM
IME the 373.06 drivers are the most stable on a 1070 or 1080.

Widely recommended in the Folding community for that reason on anything but the 1080ti and the Titan Xp (and something newer will also be needed for the 1070ti when it starts shipping).

1779  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [November 2016] Bitcoin Mining Datacenters by the Megawatt on: October 31, 2017, 09:54:05 PM
Toomim brothers is in Grant County, Washington. I'll leave it to them to be more precise if they choose to be - I've seen their building but not had any chance to try for a "visit" to date.

(edit - visited this week, but they understandably were not interested in offering a tour to someone that wasn't hosting with them).

Zoomhash is starting to look like they may have shut down all operations - the last commmunication I got from them indicated that the owner hadn't decided yet, but that was months ago and ALL of their web addresses are now offline.

MegaBigPower has mutated into GigaWatt - I don't know if they still have their older mine(s) in operation.

Anyone else notice that the Saicidoenterprices office address is at the same address (though possibly different building) as MinerWarez?

The question I have is when the next card is going to come out.  I guess that would be the 1090?

Probably "Nvidia 20 Series" is next

I give it 50/50 on "Nvidia 11xx series" or "Nvidia 20xx series".

Most likely sometime first half of next year, from what I recall of the more recent NVidia announcements.

Given their current domination of AMD pretty much across the board in their PRIMARY market (gamers), I don't see them feeling a need to move anytime sooner.
