hello phil.

I have access to galax 1070 katanas for a little less than $450.

Are these cards any good?

Planning to get an 8gpu-riserless board + 7 of the galax 1070 katana and 1 zotac 1070 mini.

I can resell them to you or any one else. Just need to figure out cost effective shipping.

They're 1 slot wide, so while their base cooling is only so-so they should work fairly well in a riserless setup since their fans can get some AIR into them despite the crowding.

I'm no longer legendary just in my own mind!

Can anyone explain the red LED to me?
This is the card for reference (Asus 1080 TI turbo blower) http://amzn.to/2xIvsbQ

Presuming the same LEDs as on my 1070 version of that card, you have something wrong with power to the last 2 cards.

Do you think it has to do with insufficient power being supplied to the PSU or driver issue with the board?
It sounds like the PSU is being overdrawn and shutting itself down for protection.

this is my conclusion

I have the H110 -- you need to power both molex on the mobo to make it work stable.

I can get away without the molex powered if I run XMR but once you mine ZEC or ETH, you need the extra juice and both 4-pin molex needs to be powered.

With all 13 x GPUs  (GA and Sapphire RX 470s)

Scenario 1: XMR - 1 Delta 2400w and PICO kit (consuming 1000-1200watts)

Scenario 2: ZEC and ETH - 1 Delta for all the risers and GPUs, and 1 x ATX PSU to power mobo and the 2 damn 4-pin molex (1600-1700watts)

You use 2 different molex wires or one molex wire with 2 of its 4 connections?

Since my ATX PSU is used only for the mobo, I use 2 x cables to power each molex just to be on safe side. I dont trust these 4pins molex.

My PCIE cables are custom made to power the RX470 and riser together - the RX470 rom modded so that single cable will not exceed threshold.
Can anyone explain the red LED to me?

This is the card for reference (Asus 1080 TI turbo blower) http://amzn.to/2xIvsbQ

I have exactly the same behavior at one of my 1080ti rig... I still don't know why 3 cards from 6 are with the LEDs blinking white (I have 1080ti Aorus), although the cards are mining with no issue. The rig has 2 PSU and 2 cards connected to one + 1 card connected to the second PSU shows this behavior.... Does your cards are mining?

now i realize the cards having an issue are the ones with a 6 pin to 8 pin adapter + a 6 pin

with all 12 gpus hooked up, it's not working.

My Aorus always blink white when they have good power - might depend on the specific model or perhaps the default settings somewhere in the GPU BIOS for if they blink or not?
I've never messed with their "RGB" settings junk, as I consider that stuff to be a total waste of time and effort and would prefer that GPUs didn't HAVE that waste of money stuff on them.

So I decided to push the six 1070's

Slot 1
msi 1070 itx -----------100 watts

slot 2
evga 1070 hybrid -----120 watts

slot 3
egva  1070 hybrid ----120,watts

slot 4
msi    1070 seahawk--120 watts

slot 5
 empty

slot 6
evga  1070 founders---111 watts

slot 7
empty

slot 8
evga 1070 founders---111 watts

cards ----------- 681 watts
rest of system-- 29  watts
total ------------710 watts 6 cards  2525 sols

I am using this psu corsair    rm1000x

may be the best priced one that can do 8 down clocked 1070s

logically you would set at

1- 90  msi itx

2-110 evga hybrid
3-110 evga hybrid
4-110 evga hybrid
5-110 msi seahawk
6-110 msi seahawk

7-  90  evga founders
8-  90  evga founders

this would be 820 for gpus and 30 for system total 850 watts  at about 3200 sols

I haven't seen mention of any low-end AM4 processor miner builds like the Biostar TB350-BTC Pro along with an AMD A6-9500.

Is there no interest in 6-GPU platforms any more?   Under $200 for MB & CPU.

https://www.amazon.com/Biostar-Motherboard-TB350-BTC-Express-Retail/dp/B072JGJ8NS

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B074BGXW9T/ref=dp_olp_0?ie=UTF8&condition=all&qid=1504224804&sr=1-1

OK, you just found me a viable AMD AM4 platform.

Problem with the AM4 based APUs so far is THEY HAVE VERY FEW PCI-E LANES, and most motherboards end up disabling one or more PCI-E slots when used with an A-series APU instead of a Ryzen.

yeah it does.  I have a 1080 ti mini and it fits.

this board is good very good for 1070

running 8 at 110 watts each will be a piece of cake.

I am using a i5 6400t and a 16gb stick of ram but I had them on hand .

I am trying to find a 1200 watt  atx at the right price.

Thanks Phil for the advice.. I will try to measure the voltage on the cables.

@QuintLeo: I have 51 x 1080ti where the LEDs are not blinking, quite the opposite, are not illuminated at all. So it was quite strange for me that 3 are with the LED's blinking.

We have 5 of those Biostar TB350 motherboards running a variety of 6 GPUs each. We're using Ryzen R5 1600 CPUs, which costs more up front, but they pay for themselves easily CPU mining and will have much better resale value years down the road if we ever choose to sell them.  Overall the motherboards have been good to us and if we ever expand our power situation they would be our most likely choice if building more completely new mining rigs.

Yeah I started water blocking this year.

I have 1 loop with 2 cards. this scares me the blocks use o-rings and I have dealt with o-rings for 45 years or so in other projects o-rings tend to leak

I have 5
stand alone evga hybrids and msi sea hawk's

I have 1 evga stand alone cpu cooler,

So far so good.

I am going to order the mobos in three or 4 hours .

So far I have 1 or 2 people interested.

 Shocked Shocked Shocked

you ought to know by now.  It is a first come item.  IF you have it on hand in under 10 days and it works for 100 days you score.

If you get it in 50 days  and it works for the same 100 days you break even.

or something like that.

yeah what is the water pump it has a nice screen readout.

do you have 2 four fan radiators or 1?
