1781  Other / Off-topic / Re: Steve Jobs Resigns as CEO of Apple on: August 24, 2011, 11:40:49 PM
Just saw this come across the wire...  What do people think of this? Is Tim Cook up to the task as successor?

Quote
To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple's brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

http://allthingsd.com/20110824/steve-jobs-resigns-as-ceo-of-apple/

Looks like Apple shareholders don't have confidence in him...

Steve jobs WAS APPLE. No one believed in his company except for he. Much of his success was due to cheap labor (China) and price gouging (USA , AND EUROPE). He was indeed a visionary, and maybe he thought/thinks we should have already been much more advanced as a race than we already are. He was known as an isolationist and didn't like people. I once read a story about how a Student was trying to get an interview with him for her master paper. Here was his reaction lol...

1782  Economy / Speculation / Re: 6 month weighted price is $10.56 on: August 24, 2011, 09:39:49 PM
Has anyone else noticed how stable the weighted average price is over the past 6 months?

Notice how the weighted price is about $10.50 going back up to 6 months. The price has been highly volatile, of course, but perhaps this price makes some kind of economic sense. If I had to guess, this is basically the price that can be supported by libertarian computer nerds with disposable income. Not every bitcoiner fits into that category, obviously, but as a sort of average, this could explain why the price has settled on this value. All the libertarian computer nerds with disposable income have already adopted bitcoin, and we'll need to invade a new demographic for the price to rise further.
Generalizations are just so stupid. One of the reasons why I am thinking of leaving this place lol.

Everyone is Republican/Democrat/Libertarian/Independent. If you can't choose atleast one thing you like from all the different "demographics" than something really is wrong with you (whoever you are).

Everyone was complaining about coverage, then we finally get some, and no comments?

Awesome presentation. Thank you so very much Jeff.
1785  Other / Off-topic / Re: A message from the president of USA, from the future on: August 23, 2011, 05:18:26 AM
Clinton merely borrowed from other programs to pay priorities. The surplus was an illusion. A ruse.
Show me your "sources" please  Cheesy.
1786  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Meze Grill not actually an exchange on: August 23, 2011, 05:17:50 AM
Whats the point of cash-back if Bitcoin IS cash Julz?

The point is it's not the *only* cash.
In an economy where both are accepted it makes sense for people
a)  to pay local currency - get goods/services + BTC
b) pay BTC - get goods/services + local currency.
Think especially tourists/backpackers!

Sorry for being snarky with you..  you sometimes manage to push my buttons as much as the SA crowd seem to irk you Wink

Better me than them lol Smiley. I think they lost their funny at about page 200. The more the Bitcoin economy grows/stabilizes the stupider they look.

1787  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Children defy police in Washington, purchase lemonade at Capitol on: August 23, 2011, 05:13:08 AM
Are you saying that if I set up a lemonade stand on my own private property (in USA) with the intent to sell lemonade, I would need to get a vendor license?

Yes. In my town that is the case.
In my state as well. I actually think it's completely illegal here to sell food/beverages out of your house. It needs to be a business facility with all permits/sanitary inspections made.
1788  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Children defy police in Washington, purchase lemonade at Capitol on: August 23, 2011, 05:08:11 AM
This protest has no respect for property rights. If they want to have the right to sell lemonade on their property without a permit then why don't they do it on THEIR PROPERTY/PROVISIONED PRIVATE PROPERTY?

They make their whole cause look bad.

Wow... mark your calendars, folks.  This will be the first and probably only time I agree 100% with Atlas.
+1 Logical thinking. Someone hacked into his account  Cheesy.
1789  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Meze Grill not actually an exchange on: August 23, 2011, 04:52:25 AM
Regardless, why are you going to a restaurant to sell Bitcoins anyways? Sounds stupid as hell, just sit down (PAY WITH BITCOINS) and enjoy your meal...

When you go to various shops here in Australia and pay electronically - you often get the option to withdraw a bit of cash at the same time. It's convenient.

It would make sense for a merchant such as Meze grill to have a fairly small limit on the amount of funds you can exchange - and also to require a purchase along with any 'exchange' transaction.

Cash-back is irrelevant with Bitcoin. Not even close to the same thing...

FFS. Does *everything* have to be explained to you?  If you think the idea of getting cash for some bitcoins while at a shop which also accepts bitcoins sounds 'stupid as hell' and if you can't see the parallel to using some other electronic payment system in a traditional shop and getting goods plus cash.. there really is no hope for you.
Stay out of threads you don't understand.

Whats the point of cash-back if Bitcoin IS cash Julz?

lol, damn kids.

reddit gets the best Bitcoin news and information on the Internets currently, well deserved.
What can TF do to change that? Smiley
1792  Other / Archival / Re: Donations Towards A Car on: August 23, 2011, 03:42:50 AM
Honestly.

If you want Bitcoins EARN THEM. No one here should be giving you money for free. Who do you think you are?

Want Bitcoins go to TWEETFORUM and start posting. I will give you 0.25BTC for every 100 posts. If not you're once again on your own.

But no one should be giving you money for free. I really want to help you out, but me giving you free money doesn't help ANYONE, things have to be earned in life.
1793  Economy / Speculation / Re: Monday after Conference rally fizzles on: August 23, 2011, 03:38:03 AM
What if bitcoin became valuable and we could all afford to go to conferences?
Thousands of people (including myself) couldn't afford to go. We need to all forget about speculation and start working HARD. All of us.
1794  Economy / Speculation / Re: Post here when you DO have an idea which way the market is going to go on: August 23, 2011, 03:36:54 AM
Bitcoins will skyrocket soon. There seems to be a delay on some of the articles being prepared about Bitconf.
1795  Economy / Speculation / Re: North Korean Bitcoin analysis with Kim Jong-il - Part 1: The August 23rd crash on: August 23, 2011, 03:35:44 AM
Well, someone buy or sell a bajillion BTC and do something, it's boring as hell right now out there.

Yet, that 'boring' stability is exactly what serious users of bitcoins need.  Imagine being a trader and every day waking up to bitcoins being worth $6 today, $9 tomorrow, maybe $11 the day after, and back again.  That's the kind of action we've seen in the past few weeks.  Imagine trying to price your products in something falling or gaining 20% in a day.  The trader would have to add a thick margin to insulate themselves from probably losses, which begs the question why they would want to use bitcoins in the first place and not just use something very stable by comparison such as the US dollar.

+1 Hope it stays nice and "boring" till Christmas, That would be NICE.
1796  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Meze Grill not actually an exchange on: August 23, 2011, 03:29:40 AM

Just want to point out that not every instance of saying something false is also an instance of lying.  Often people make false statements which they sincerely believe to be true.  When that happens it's just called "being mistaken".

if a person habitually makes false statements, eventually it shifts from innocent accidental mispeaks to lies. you can cry wolf, and say you thought you saw a wolf only so many times until eventually people start to doubt that you really did see a wolf in the first place. Bruce has put himself in a position of reporter, if he wants to be trusted than he should take the time to verify what he is reporting.
What does he lie about on a continual bases?  Regardless, why are you going to a restaurant to sell Bitcoins anyways? Sounds stupid as hell, just sit down (PAY WITH BITCOINS) and enjoy your meal...
1797  Other / Off-topic / Re: A message from the president of USA, from the future on: August 23, 2011, 03:23:27 AM
"Even if every single American was taxed at 100% of their income, the government would still need to borrow money to pay for it's obligations."

Joke?

No, that's absolutely correct. I forget where there this is cited but I can vouch for it. The math adds up.

It proves the problems lies in our government's inefficiency and spending not a lack of money. In fact, there's more than enough funding, it's just it's all wasted on bureaucracy.
YOUR SO WRONG!

How is it that you can explain BALANCED BUDGETS during Clinton years? Just 10 years ago America was paying for it's obligations with a SURPLUS. Bush comes in, destroys the country with his unfunded wars, and unfunded tax cuts for millionaires, and then he's got you saying that if everyone was taxed at 100%, that somehow it would still be impossible to pay for yearly obligations, even though just a decade ago it was more than possible? The propaganda has got you SICK to your heads...

WOW  Cheesy
1798  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Open letter to Bruce Wagner on: August 23, 2011, 03:16:10 AM
Bullshit trying to put this all on Bruce.  What the fuck tech geeks, how did someone not have their android app out with a live feed off their phone cam.  All are to blame.
Exactly, I thought naturally we would see more coverage just from the bloggers that were there.

Just a heads up seems like the SA cry babies are planning another massive troll attack, so we will begin to see these threads all over Sad. I have never seen such a coordinated group of individuals that are so into disrupting other peoples daily activities. It's actually kind of disturbing and somewhat vicious...
1799  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Open letter to Bruce Wagner on: August 22, 2011, 11:46:44 PM
I see no problem that forum whiners are on the bottom of Bruce's priority list. His concern is for the participants of the conference and it seems they're happy.
That's not fair either, many of us were dying to go but simply couldn't afford a trip to New York.

The coverage should have been better, but once again the conference should have never taken place so soon after these events to begin with.

Since Bitcoin is an open-source project that means any one of you could have set up this conference.

So if you think you could have done better then prove it! Smiley good luck...
