If you are a football/soccer fan, you have probably heard about the stadium where the Bolivian national team plays its matches. The national stadium is located at a sea level of over 3500 meters. When other teams come to play Bolivia who aren't used to the height, they get into all sorts of problems and issues like breathing normally. Bolivia used to beat all its rivals playing at home because of that. It wasn't even easy for Argentina and Brazil.
182  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Foundation Passport Official Thread on: April 23, 2024, 07:58:58 PM
I just came across a video of your marketing head talking with the Bitfinex team, and I heard some interesting things I wanted to mention them and ask you about it.

  • He was pretty secretive but said that Foundation is working on multiple new hardware devices, with plans to release them this year. Can you say something more, exclusively for the Bitcointalk community? Wink We already know there won't be a pre-sale stage.
  • How is the development going with Lightning being added to Envoy? When do you expect that to be finished, and have you thought about liquid BTC, for example?
  • How far ahead is the Monero community with introducing their forked version of the Passport firmware to support the coin?
183  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Important reminders on: April 23, 2024, 05:01:45 PM
Absolutely disagree. Bitcoin doesn't censor for the simple reason that it is the right thing to do. If you don't like censorship-resistant always-no-matter-what cash, there's a host variety of cryptocurrencies I can direct you to.
It's not cash. Again, my opinion. Anyone is free to agree or disagree.

According to you. According to someone else, they might pose a threat to the P2P cash model.
Then, that someone is free to suggest what should be done to change/stop the threat and the community will decide the course of action.

If you want the system to scale, work on scaling. Not on censorship. That's the appropriate response.
I don't disagree. But how good has that done us? We don't have a solution for scaling on L1 that wouldn't affect the decentralized nature of Bitcoin and which wouldn't require much more storage at the same time.

I would very much would like to ignore Inscriptions but sadly I can't - Every now and then I am faced with 100 sat/vB fees if I want to make a payment of a couple of dollars to any kind of service. How can I choose to ignore them when they have a huge impact on the core functionality of Bitcoin?
It's already been ignored, thus Ordinals led to Runes. Tomorrow Runes will lead to something new, and then we can all enjoy our censorship-resistant Bitcoin at 500-700 sat/vByte.
184  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: OrangeFren.com - instant, KYC-free, exchange comparison on: April 23, 2024, 04:41:10 PM
What does it mean where there is no notification or guarantee from your side? For instance, just for testing purposes, I did a BTC to ETH search, and the second result is for ChangeHero. Your page doesn't show the OrangeFren Guarantee (like with eXch), but there is also no warning that funds may be frozen.

When I go to ChangeHero's website, the first thing I see is this:

Quote
Please note that ChangeHero uses a risk-scoring automated system aimed to spot suspicious activity during operations. In case your transaction is flagged by this system, ChangeHero reserves the right to conduct the KYC procedure and process the transaction in accordance with our AML/KYC policy and our Terms of Use (paragraph 3.6).
https://changehero.io/

The site's TOS also states the following:

Quote
To be able to avail the services, we require you to consent to pass through AML/KYC procedures that may be implemented on you according to our internal AML/KYC policies. During these procedures, ChangeHero reserves the right to request additional information and documents which are intended without limitation to identify our User and to prove the source of the funds.

I can not send coins to my private wallet.

i have a balance of 1.416 mBTC or in uBTC 1,416.4

if i try to withdraw 1000 mBTC i get the message --> amount insufficient funds
if i try to withdraw 500 mBTC i get the message --> amount insufficient funds
if i try to withdraw 1.000 mBTC (with a point) i get the message --> the amount is too small

What is my failure?
Have you taken into account the withdrawal fees? Check the withdrawal tab and the fees that apply. Subtract the sum from your total balance and what is left is approximately what you can withdraw. It could be that.
186  Economy / Gambling / Re: My betting strategies on: April 23, 2024, 03:58:00 PM
@sotelorene
I think you have forgotten about a very important strategy: Home court advantage. There are teams that are practically unbeatable when they play in front of their own fans who push them on even against better-performing rivals. Passionate and loud home supporters can make a big difference. It's not so obvious in US sports, but in South America and Europe, fans can be like an extra player on the pitch.
187  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: BitBox02 Experiences on: April 23, 2024, 03:50:30 PM
Wow, they move in the right direction. BIP 85 eligible child keys are very convenient feature that allows to disseminate them among different wallets and at the same time to have care about single SEED, solely, namely master SEED from which they were generated.
It's a great way to remain in control in situations where you want to give bitcoin to someone who is prone to losing stuff or misplacing them. I have such irresponsible people in my family circle. They would lose their feet if they could take them off. There is still the issue with them getting hacked or leaking the seed somehow, but at least you could protect them from losing their keys.

I use my child seeds generated by Passport 2 to setup wallets on a few hardware devices in my possession.
The Jade can be used for that as well. I haven't looked into it though.
188  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Important reminders on: April 23, 2024, 03:39:54 PM
Great, so here's a fact: we don't do that in here.
Bitcoin doesn't censor because there was no grave need for that. No transactions should ever get censored. I don't consider the Ordinal/Runes spam to be transactions (going back to the P2P transfer of digital cash), so the same rules shouldn't apply. My personal opinion, of course.

If you start censoring this and that, you open the Pandora's box, and be sure you might be next in line to be censored.
Now you are exaggerating. Don't forget that you need a huge majority support to make important changes in Bitcoin. Even a solution for inscription spam might not pass that threshold, let alone something that shouldn't be prevented.

Great. So, what do we do to centralized exchanges and their users? They don't use it as a peer-to-peer cash system; it's clearly against the concept. What about second layers that do not go according to the whitepaper? Let's ban them too, why not? What about OP_RETURN? Clearly not an addition related to financial transactions.
We don't do anything. They aren't a threat. Ordinals don't use OP_RETURN (I think). Runes do. A solution should be found to filter out only inscription spam, nothing genuine. For the record, I don't consider what Luke Dashjr is doing as a good solution because it affects coinjoin transactions.

Or, what do we do to dust attacks? I can claim they are spam and everyone would agree.
There is already a solution to that which prevents us to make transactions below the dust limit.

What makes you think that your opinion on spam is the holy grail of truth we should all follow, whereas my opinion on spam is just subjective and must be ignored?
That's the beauty of discussing different topics. You share your opinions and people either agree with them or not. If the majority agrees, it can be implemented. I don't see why a random person would look at the current situation and go: This is fine, let's not do anything and just pay $20 or $50 per transaction, depending on how much the spammers are spamming at the time.

Btw, there have been multiple posts about these spammers soon losing their money and stopping their attacks. Possible. But the enemies of Bitcoin with access to money printers could also improve their approaches and clog the network in the same way. The current spammers have showed them the way.
189  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: BitBox02 Experiences on: April 22, 2024, 09:57:55 PM
I couldn't find a dedicated thread for Bitbox hardware wallets, so this one will do.

The company has releases a new BitBox app update that introduces a few changes and improvements. One new feature that was added is child keys following the BIP85 standard. The BitBox02 can now generate separate child keys of 12 or 24 words derived from your main (parent) seed. Lost child keys can always be recovered by the holders of the parent seed.

190  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [No KYC] Prepaid Cards and Virtual Phone Numbers are available on Stealths on: April 22, 2024, 06:23:06 PM
You are right, anyone who knows card details can make a purchase (just like no-3D cards). This is obviously a downside however there is not any other prepaid card issuer with 3D support and no-KYC requirement. As far as I know, it's possible to block card details on VISA International Prepaid Card.
Are you aware of any cases where the auto-3D feature stopped working, preventing a genuine user from using the card until your support checked what's wrong?
I am looking at your international VISA prepaid card. Is this country list up-to-date?
The product description says there is no currency conversion fee. Can you share the source you use to convert between USD and other national currencies?
191  Economy / Exchanges / Re: eXch - instant exchange BTC / LN / XMR / LTC / ETH / ERC20 on: April 22, 2024, 06:08:15 PM
I good security practice,  which I do for basic every website which I will pay something,  is to double check the address with their social media links.

In this case , bitcointalk is like a social media platform.

I would never enter my financial details or make a cryptocurrency payment without double checking the URL in other platforms such as their social media profile.
The thing is, people who don't know how to differentiate the real from the fake could easily get tricked with scam social media pages as well. I see people in my Facebook friends circle share them all the time. Fake car giveaways from fake dealers presenting themselves as the real ones. I have seen people share fake cash giveaways by fake bank profiles. PlayStations, smartphones,... everything. It's usually relatively new sites with a few general posts and then a giveaway which requires the usual (like, share, comment, befriend). And people fall for that kind of thing. Logic stops as soon as people think there is something to gain for free.

Big thumbs up from me for 1miau's service!

I have used his table styles and suggestions a few times in the past in my threads where I have big tables. Many types of table-creation keyword searches using "site:bitcointalk.org" leads to the thread you linked to in your OP, but there is also other valuable information out there that people can read before asking for help.

I think people who are using this exchange and are active here on Bitcointalk know how to find the official website, both the .tor and clearnet versions. I have bookmarked both a long time ago. The problem is reaching it from outside of the forum. The typical person isn't as security-conscious as a bitcoiner. If they had positive experiences with such onion site directories in the past, they will unfortunately not think twice to trust it with pointing the way to eXch. At that point, they have already taken a big step towards getting scammed.
195  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [No KYC] Prepaid Cards and Virtual Phone Numbers are available on Stealths on: April 22, 2024, 03:30:13 PM
This card has auto-3D feature, which doesn't require an action from you such as entering auth code. All 3D requests are automatically approved by card issuer.
In that case, it's a slight downgrade security-wise. The standard security model requires the owner of the card to confirm each transaction using a code they receive on their registered phone number. It's 2FA. If you get rid of that, there is no longer a second authentication, and anyone with my card details (which I must protect anyways) would be able to make transactions. Am I correct? Can I at least block the card and freeze its spending capabilities anytime I don't want to use it?
196  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Important reminders on: April 22, 2024, 03:22:07 PM
You are right staying mad is not going to change anything, that's why many will move away from BTC
One genuine user abandoning Bitcoin is greater damage than 100 shitcoiners going away because they can no longer upload their bananas to Bitcoin's blockchain.

But yeah we should not cry about inscriptions, but we should cry if we are not taking benefit from this feature.
So your suggestion is joining the shitwagon? There are no benefits. Even the profits you might earn aren't worth destroying the best chance of an uncontrollable way of sending money that we have.

But don't you think if the people from crying category enters the embracing category the hype will increase more and thus the tx fee will also.
How does that help anyone? We should all upload bananas and enjoy the high transaction fees? That's what you are saying.

I may be hated for saying this, but what's currently happening in the mempool is a feature...
What's currently happening might be a feature, but it's a feature of spam that's abusing the network for its selfish reasons.

I heard a good comparison between Ordinals/Runes and telemarketing spam. Telemarketers are also using telecommunication networks the way they were intended. They pay their bills and purchase the needed hardware to make calls. But what happens then? They spam. You get a call to talk about Jesus, saving the planet, investing in this or that, or they inform you of a lottery you won or can participate in. Most people don't like them. You hang up the phone, you block their numbers.. you censor them. If this trend doesn't end, that's what needs to happen. You find a way to put them in the garbage bin. That's where garbage goes.

Why? Because Bitcoin's purpose is to be a

A purely peer-to-peer version of electronic cash would allow online payments to be sent directly from one party to another without going through a financial institution.
https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf

If blocks are only filled by 10%, 20% or 30% with P2P online payments of digital cash, then something has seriously gone wrong. I have no problem with a free and competing fees market. That's how it's supposed to be. If you are willing to pay more than me to make an online P2P payment of electronic cash, then all the power to you my brother. I will have to wait my turn or reach deeper inside my own pockets to offer a competitive fee rate. What I don't believe anyone should have to do is to compete with spammers who are not making P2P online payments with electronic cash, and are taking away many of the features that normal people love. With those, I mean a cheap, fast, and borderless way of sending payments in any amounts you want.
199  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Apr 2024] Fees are HIGH, wait for opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs on: April 21, 2024, 07:52:41 AM
But do you think this madness is sustainable over time?
Not in this quantity. Only time will tell. The Ordinals attack has been going on for 1.5 years already. People have gotten tired of it, and now we have something else those good-for-nothings are throwing their money on which is obviously attracting the wrong type of people to Bitcoin.

Those who overpay for putting images of bananas in the blockhain can do it for two reasons, for the revenge of not having increased the size of the blocks or because you hope that someone more retarded than you will pay you much more money in the future for the bananas (or both).
It's both.

What truely amazes me is that people are willing to pay the spammers for this. It must be profitable, which means the tens of millions of dollars they pay per day are paid by their victims. Who are those people who'd rather "invest" in a made-up story about unique satoshis than just buy real Bitcoin?
You know the saying: "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups". I think it was George Carlin who said that.
