Well i'm pretty new to Bitcoins, and of course I thought to go straight to the faucets. Those were fun for a while, but now i'm looking for a way to make actual money. Is there a site where you just keep your browser open and they can use power from your computer to mine? Or a way to sell virtual things for Bitcoins, or some way of making money in Bitcoins other than mining and faucets? Because I have a rather low-end computer, I can't mine for profit (although I do mine for fun)

there was a browser-based miner that duped a lot of people for a long time (it was just using peoples' mining power and not paying anything). your low-end computer won't get you much. best to sell some goods and services to get yourself some coin. Wink

Thanks can anybody confirm this?

just take a browse in the Digital Goods forum, i've seen some threads offering this. but i doubt anyone is selling a senior member that cheap. probably double that from what i've seen.
184  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 20, 2014, 09:12:21 AM
Look at the LTC hogs going up like crazy in a down market. I swear, I think that there is leverage at play and they are going to get slaughtered on the next dip.

On the other hand, and I mention it here for this reason, it could be a sign that we are about to get a bounce on the markets. China's LTC market often times gets a jolt right before the BTC market moves.

Are you´re still trying to short something that already has been down ~90% from it´s last ATH.   Roll Eyes

truth haha. not that it can't go down further -- it probably will actually -- but the bounces can be soul crushing for shorts. the #1 PAMM account on BTCE (JS) was trading like $100k and got his account wiped out. the timing looks like he was shorting LTC at the bottom.....
185  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 20, 2014, 08:42:36 AM
Does anyone have an explanation on who keeps lending fresh BTC on bitfinex for those shorts?

An interest rate of 0.0055 %/day (2% annual) doesn't seem worth the risk to me.

after BTC swaps shot to 8k BTC, an hour ago there was only miniscule amount available. Now there's again ~ 1000 BTC available to borrow at flash rate of 0.0055 %/day. wtf. who in his right mind is doing this???

wild theory: maybe those are just finexBTC being lent?

dude, come on. 1000 BTC? that's nothing. a year ago we used to see 5k walls, 5k dumps regularly. 9k total swaps and 1000 "fresh" BTC is nothing. any early adopter could be doing this, no need to make any accusations of finexBTC....
186  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 20, 2014, 08:22:46 AM
Damn, squeezed out my long, which has been open for months.I was in @ around 430.
309@btc-e.
Out of position. cant get back in now.

ouch. why would you keep it open for so long? after the cascade on Bitfinex a few days back, i'd have thought it was time to close all leveraged longs given the spike to $100~ in february. sorry, that sucks. Sad
187  Economy / Speculation / Re: any reason for the prices going up today ? on: August 20, 2014, 08:20:10 AM
anyway, it's a "sucker rally" for now. but could prove otherwise. need to wait and see me thinks. Smiley

yep, it was a sucker rally me thinks. time to retest the lows. $400 and under is off the table by no means this time. let the chips fall where they may -- just be sure to keep some low bids for them margin calls. Wink
188  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy now or not? on: August 20, 2014, 07:27:44 AM
Should i buy now or not? is this a trap?  Grin

At this level, it is good price to buy a few and if it drop more buy a few more.. Average down Smiley

averaging down is a good strategy in a bull market. i'd say it was a good idea in the initial correction to the late 2013 bubble, because of the long term bull trend. but an 8 month bear market throws that assumption into jeopardy. best to wait for clarity IMO.
189  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 20, 2014, 02:32:30 AM
monkey gave up on getting btc any cheaper.
monkey is all-in.

ouch. i'm seeing a topping formation here. will take the next few hours (at least) to confirm one way or the other. i think if 2900 goes, it could get ugly in a hurry.
190  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy now or not? on: August 20, 2014, 02:31:03 AM
I've decided to buy 2 btc but i want to buy at $460. Will it drop down to $460?
Do you intend to hold for long term? If yes, what is your long term price outlook? Would it make a difference if you bought at $480 instead of $460?

the difference is a handful of bit cents, that's what! hey, if bitcorn really goes to a million+, then a bit cent will be quite the pretty penny, eh? just sayin! Smiley
191  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy now or not? on: August 20, 2014, 12:18:20 AM
depends what you are looking for -- long term? short term? and how much do you care about your entry point as long as you are getting good return? if you are trying to maximize risk/reward, i'd wait.
192  Economy / Speculation / Re: Next Major Bank crash will be THE BEST time for bitcoins. on: August 19, 2014, 11:03:47 PM
yep, no money, no honey! all hail free money and easy credit! as far as banking issues go, i'm not sure that the type of situation OP is talking about is comparable to the PBOC ban, but unlikely IMO to cause the type of "panic buying fever" that bitcoiners expect. Smiley
193  Economy / Speculation / Re: any reason for the prices going up today ? on: August 19, 2014, 10:29:39 PM
Hi !

This is crazy, yesterday, the Bitcoin price hit ~$300 on BTC-E, now is climbing again from $470.
Are we escaped from the bear trap ?
Here come another question: why on Bitstamp the rices are always highest than rest of the exchanges ?

the ~$300 was just a result of margin calls, didn't see that on other exchanges obviously, so that's not the best starting point. arbitrage filled the gap.

anyway, it's a "sucker rally" for now. but could prove otherwise. need to wait and see me thinks. Smiley
194  Economy / Speculation / Re: Next Major Bank crash will be THE BEST time for bitcoins. on: August 19, 2014, 10:28:17 PM
you're reaching here. "good news, price down? we need bad economic news to drive price up!" meh, bitcoin will go up when everyone has given up and all the leveraged longs are dead. Tongue
195  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wohoo drop drop drop on: August 19, 2014, 10:26:49 PM
IMO, if you sold a good deal higher ($550+), or you haven't bought in (period), then just wait for a strong breakout on AT LEAST the 4hr, but preferably the daily. we have not gotten that yet. the down trend is still in full swing. best to wait it out. don't need to catch the very bottom (but do get those flash crash bids in!!!)
196  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How much do you trust these exchanges? on: August 19, 2014, 09:47:39 PM
i don't trust any of them. the saying "if you don't control the private keys, you don't own any bitcoin" is true. BUT i weigh that risk against the potential reward of trading gains, and find that taking moderate risk (50% cold storage still) in that regard is worth it for me. i spread the risk between Bitfinex and BTCE mainly, with a bit on Poloniex for altcoin trading.
197  Other / Off-topic / Re: How many bitcoin you can earn/day ? on: August 19, 2014, 09:45:04 PM
How many bitcoin you can earn / day ?
And how you got it (Gambling / Trading / Signature / Faucet / Join Giveaway / Other) ?

lately i've been earning quite a lot by selling/shorting bounces (trading), but i haven't really "realized" those gains by buying back into BTC long term. this is a cruel bear market right now... i'll let you know when i finally buy back in. Tongue
198  Economy / Speculation / Re: Has Wall Street finally Arrived... as Short Sellers? on: August 19, 2014, 09:42:29 PM
Shorts on BitFinex has increased to 7000 BTC.  What if Wall Street has finally arrived, and they are trading on the dark side!

yeah, Wall Street firms are scrambling over one another to pour money into Bitfinex. that's the most sensible thought in the world. Cheesy
199  Economy / Speculation / Re: This Bitfinex Credit Bubble cannot end well on: August 19, 2014, 09:41:06 PM
The price on Bitfinex peaked on 4th December at 1175 USD (BitcoinWisdom). On that day, USD loans on the site were 6.8 million (bfxdata.com)

Why look at the dollar amount of loans and not the interest rate on loans? The dollar amount is like volume - with more people using the platform, I would expect the dollar amount to increase. The interest rate might more accurately reflect the demand for dollars.

On Dec 4, the USD swap rate was 0.99112. Now, it's 0.05926. Compared to back then, nobody wants to borrow USD and go long BTC on margin.

I actually checked around an hour ago and there are no offers to borrow BTC as of now. I am not sure if they have disabled BTC shorting or not, but there is no demand for BTC swaps at the moment.
It's not disabled - I see a single entry now, 30 btc at 0.0001% lol

that's how it always is -- one or two lowball bids. most don't bother to do swaps manually when shorting because flash rate is always so cheap.

USD swaps down to 18 million. some people must have got murdered.
200  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin already IS mainstream on: August 19, 2014, 09:39:22 PM
...

It is not mainstream.

Mainstream means widely-adopted. Bitcoin is not widely-adopted at all.

i suppose OP is saying that it got mainstream exposure, and adoption never materialized. i'm not convinced of that, but only time will tell whether bitcoin is really being adopted. (merchant acceptance, for one, doesn't necessarily tell us much)
