181  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S9 back fan cable melting on: May 24, 2018, 07:25:22 PM
Why would the S9's back fan cable be so much more prone to melting than the front cable? Is it because it comes in contact with the frame which can get very hot? It has only become more of an issue lately.

Wow, how hot is that miner getting? Mine are running in 90F ambient air and I do not see anything like that.
182  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: May 17, 2018, 03:29:48 PM
I just noticed they are selling the S9i, does anyone know the difference between it and the regular S9? Other than name change..lol. I'm wondering if I should buy some of those or the Avalon 841's..

Not a lot of difference other than a slight change in wattage and of course the price. I had made a thread, but it got deleted...

Do you have a link or model for the PSU from Amazon? I cant seem to fine anything for Beleev.in....

Sorry here it is

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0795MTD7N/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Thanks for sharing, now that it's 90+ deg F outside my garage is heating up and my M3s are pulling something like 2300W with the stock PSUs! I might give on of these a try and report back.

184  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Pangolinminer & Whatsminer FAQs on: May 17, 2018, 01:22:56 AM
I have 1 that does this. It works perfectly. The light started blinking after I dropped internet one day, and it idled for 10hrs in a 15°f room.
It will not go away. The miner runs perfectly, so I never contacted Pangolinminer about it. If you figure out how to make it stop, please share here. Goodluck!!!

Yes, I have one that does that too. It's also the one that will not swap pools unless I restart cgminer. But it hashes fine so I let it do it's thing.

CAT6 is fine.
186  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: PCB vs Chip Temps on: April 16, 2018, 07:19:16 PM
I can vent the heat out from the AC units out through a hole in my room, it doesn't flow back behind the miners (it gets vented out with my dryer).

I'm also not paying for electricity Smiley

Is the AC unit free as well? Do you already have one? I guess in my mind some plywood, nails, and 2x4's are cheaper...

I don't want to spend a bunch more money on this - I think I might just double tarp it and get another AC unit for the summer months and blow it on the miners.

Your statement is contradictory Smiley Then you'll be paying MORE for electricity and generating MORE waste heat...

Removing waste heat is key.

I would build a more permanent wall to separate hot and cold to eliminate any air "short circuiting", that'd probably help a lot. I'd also look at getting a bit more CFM on the exhaust side.
189  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Cooling problems. Please Help. on: April 10, 2018, 09:19:55 PM
Its something I just had not thought of for whatever reason.

I have separated them and what i had found is as follows: it seems to work with 2 S9's exhausting into a 6 inch round duct or 1 S9 exhausting into a 4 inch round duct. That seems about the max that you can exhaust into each duct.

Thanks for all of your help and pointing out the obvious to me.

I have 5 miners that I use 6" duct on. I found my S9s are basically unaffected by a 6" duct. Anything below that and they start to rise in temp (not overheat, but just a higher running temp). My S7 can get by with a 5" duct no problem. I wouldn't even think of anything lower than a 6" duct for my firebreathing M3s Smiley

I post this link a lot, I've been in your shoes. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2796117.0

190  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Why PDUs Don't Always Make sense on: April 06, 2018, 10:59:24 PM
I built my entire datacenter off of secondary market PDUs because its just not feasable at their MSRP.

I use 3 phase power so my setup will be different from single phase as far as breakers and layout is concerned.

I would understand if you'd rather not share, but if at all possible I'd love to know your 3 phase setup and how it relates to PDUs (please mods this is on topic!). Believe it or not my house built in 1954 has 3 phase. My sub-panel is only single phase, but I have been thinking about a new service on my out-building that would house all my mining equipment.
191  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Why PDUs Don't Always Make sense on: April 06, 2018, 10:23:13 PM
I dont quite understand this post. Who cares if you have a bunch of empty sockets as long as its working?

It was really for the rare occasion someone uses the search feature. PDUs, unless you can get them really, really cheap are not feasible. Especially if you start looking at switched and metered. The fact that it takes 2 PDUs for 5 miners is crazy. So again, economics.

I also wanted to see who, if anyone, had used the PDUs I linked. They are not switched, but *seem* to be built to handle much higher loads.

What do you guys use at scale? I breaker per miner? Or are commercial codes different where you can have multiple 220/240 outlets per breaker?
192  Bitcoin / Mining support / Why PDUs Don't Always Make sense on: April 05, 2018, 11:30:47 PM
I thought I'd post this to illustrate the challenge when trying to run multiple ASICs of off standard server PDUs.

https://imgur.com/FDLUqxm

The left is a single 14TH S9 on one bank, and then a 13.5TH S9 and an S7 4.73TH on the other. On the right are two M3s, one on each bank. So 5 ASICs on two server type PDUs with 24 outlets each, big waste.

How many of you guys have experience with www.bitcoinpowerstrips.com? Looks like they do not have switched, but at least they are a better fit for ASIC miners.
193  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: AvalonMiner 841 temperature issue on: April 05, 2018, 04:13:07 PM
Do NOT start ducting the miners exhaust without using a booster fan and/or larger dia tube. They are designed assuming free airflow in and out of their casings and have little margin for pushing the air against added resistance.

What I used are these https://www.globalindustrial.com/searchResult?searchBox=&q=ventilators to suck the hot air out of the area where my farm is and ran the other end of the pressure duct to a much cooler area of our shop floor. Specifically I use https://www.globalindustrial.com/p/hvac/fans/blower/global-portable-ventilation-fan-16-with-32-flexible-ducting  which moves over 2,800CFM. The bank of miners are pointed at the blower inlet about 10ft away from them.

[...]

Is that an Avalon specific issue? Or simply a concern for the length of the run?

I've had great success with ducting my 2 S9s, 1 S7, and 2M3s

Here is what I did, granted the runs are MUCH shorter, but they do have some sharp bends.

194  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: AvalonMiner 841 temperature issue on: April 05, 2018, 02:17:09 AM
Ive determined my problem is all ambient temps(moving the power supplies helped a bit).   We had 2-3 days above average in terms of temps.  A nice cold front moved through and we are in the 40s and dropping fast.   So I opened the shop up completely for a few hours and clearly the temps moderated.

I think this means I need to exhaust the miners to the outside when summer comes.

https://imgur.com/a/YfiY9

Thanks,

Yes, you'll be amazed at the effect on miner temps by getting the waste heat out. People tend to want to cool the miners, but the key is simply getting that hot air away from them.
195  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Heat Solution? on: April 01, 2018, 04:59:29 AM
My problem is i only have a 4 or 5 inch hole in the celieng and i cant make any other holes or make this one bigger

Then you need to find another space

CFM is CFM you're putting out waste heat, you MUST get rid of it, period.
196  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Preventing rust on the Antminer S9 on: April 01, 2018, 04:55:42 AM
I don't know what your set up is. If you feel a dehumidifier can't keep up have you thought about placing a dessicant inline with your air intake?
I really appreciate this suggestion, but I don't understand where exactly you're thinking the dessicant would be within the intake process? The cooling process is passive, with ambient air entering a colder side, where it is run through the miners and exhausted again. The airflow is much too great to not have the dessicant inline somewhere, but it doesn't seem practical to have it right in front of the miners' intake fans. Perhaps lining the walls with dessicant breathers/filters is the best solution.

Well, it's hard to give a solid answer without much info. What are the details of your setup?
197  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 2 problems with S9 - need help on: April 01, 2018, 04:53:10 AM
I use a short (3ft) standard Cat5 ethernet cable, but it comes from a TRENDnet Powerline adapter plugged into a 110 power outlet (with the other TRENDnet Powerline adapter plugged into my router). The connection is there when there is no hashing - I can reach the S9 on the LAN no problem.

I didn't save the log but IIRC, didn't see anything alarming in it. Had stuff like:

Check Chain[J8] ASIC RT error: (asic index start from 1-63)

but all the chips seemed to be showing as working on Miner Status although the Status of the Pool Connection was showing as Dead. Next time this happens I will save the log...

I will also save the log next time I reboot and it takes a long time.

Just an FYI, but Slush had some AWS issues last night and all my miners failed over to their EU address. Failed back this morning after it was fixed.

HagssFIN, can you elaborate a bit more on the offset voltage. I found this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Input_offset_voltage but I am a little foggy on how it applies to the miner. Especially because the miner dropped wattage a bit when at the highest offset and hashrate.

There's also nothing wrong with wanting to be able to find out who or what's behind the business. I do not think what Dr.Mann is asking is out of line, especially when talking about a very large scale.

Pick on the analogy all day, but again he's not being unreasonable.

Well well well, look at this news:

Our block #514882 is the first-ever block mined using the active version-rolling aka overt AsicBoost. According to the available evidence, it was mined by @HalongMining hardware. Congrats to lucky miner from Guangdong, China

Hashrate is reported as 16th/s by Slush. So It wasn't a scam after all. Or should we wait till we see the actual product?

For me the proof will be when the product is shipping normally. Not saying anything is a scam, but I will fully trust a product and it's company when it has a track record. News, pictures, 3rd hand info, etc are all great, but the proof is when you pay your money and get the product each time every time...
