181  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [850 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: March 03, 2014, 08:21:58 PM
I am curious what effect it could or would have to start mining in a pool after it shows a luck rating of below 80% long term (Monthly), and 60% short term (1 week).

I know this method is used extensively in stock trades. They call it the RSI or Relative Strength Index.

http://www.investopedia.com/terms/r/rsi.asp

Time and price movements are not random, as say hashing is. Luck can be relative, just as Relative Strength is.

Though it is possible to have permanently bad or low luck, it can not happen in nature over extremely long periods of times.

Yes you can flip "Heads" on a coin 100 times in a row, but if starting at toss #1 the laws of probability will prove out in the long run. Aberrations are just "Variance" of the longer term averages.

This can be used to a miners advantage.

If you only start mining on a pool when it has short term (1 to 2 Weeks) luck below  say 60 and switch to Pay Per Share when the pool luck goes above say 120, how would this affect the long term earnings of a miner?

Because just as Bad Luck, never lasts, so to Good Luck can also not last.

Unfortunately my college math skills have long been forgotten.

This is called Gambler's fallacy. In reality for truly random process "bad luck" does not imply "good luck in the future". Even if you toss the coin and wait for 10 heads in a row then the next toss would be equally likely head as tail. There is nothing like "after 10 red in a row in roulette there must be more black than red". The ratio should approach probability, but the difference between "good" and "bad" does not go to zero.

But claiming that, by design, Bitcoin's higher goal is to get rid of fractionnal banking seems like a stretch to me. If anything, I believe that the first and foremost design goal of Bitcoin is to give back to the people the power to hold their money and the freedom to deal with it as they see fit. Remove that power from banks and governments. Bitcoin cannot prevent people from operating fractionnal reserve buisnesses (but I makes more difficult for a buisness to claim that it doesn't when it does).

Well put.

I fully support the freedom of people to engage in fractional reserve banking.  All I object to is the government confiscating my money and using it to guarantee such deposits.

I agree. Not only government but also any other group, NGO, corporation, public referendum, common good, criminal organization, ... (Shall not have the power to guarantee such deposits. And Bitcoin makes this much more possible.)

Captain Jean-Luc Picard: The economics of the future are somewhat different. You see, money doesn't exist in the 24th century.
Lily Sloane: No money? You mean, you don't get paid?
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force of our lives. We work to better ourselves and the rest of humanity.
Even in the post-scarcity United Federation of Planets, there is still a scarcity of time, which cannot simply be replicated. Joseph Sisko only serves so many meals each day and only has so many tables at Sisko's Creole Kitchen in New Orleans. If you want a reservation there, you may have to part with something dear to you in exchange for it. It may not be money — it may be your time or a product of your unique talents — but it's still trade, commerce. There is still scarcity in that world. You will never go hungry, but not everyone gets a starship.

And also people are scare. Lets say everyone want to be treted by Beverly Crusher (hey, she is one of the best doctors in the Federation!). But there is only one Beverly Crusher.
And land is scare. There are still wars for territory.

FRB is possible with bitcoin. But it would be much more difficult to get away with miscalculations and frauds.
Bitcoin bank can accept bitcoins and maintain "virtual bitcoins" balances for their customers. It can pay interest on bitcoins and lend bitcoins with (higher) interest. It can administer more "virtual bitcoins" than "real BTC" in its balance. And it can work well.
But it would be very easy to ask the bank about hard "real BTC" balance and quite easy for the bank to prove it owns this "backing". In light of this ease of proving real balance it would be much more difficult for bank to lie plausibly about its backing. (Bank can still issue false statements about its balance, but the extra careful customers will not be fooled.)
If the bank defaults there will be nothing like "too big to fail" no one will be able to (forcefully) bail out the bank and its customers.

Someone can consider situation: "Customer trusts untrustworthy bank, do not verify the information, is irresponsible and therefore looses all his money." a problem. Someone else can consider situation: "Customer trusts untrustworthy bank, do not verify the information, is irresponsible and he is NOT punished by loosing his money." a problem.

FRB will offer more possibilities and more profit with more risk and more need for trusting some institution (or persons, or safeguards). It will not affect the ones who will not want to participate. Virtual bitcoins will be clearly distinguishable from the real ones. It is up to everyone to decide his position.
185  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: February 27, 2014, 05:02:12 PM

You can find this directly on the Havelock AM1 Page.... here it is below...

Exporting Shares
Shares can be exported from AM1 into Direct ASICMINER shares by anyone, with the following limitations:
- One transfer OUT of AM1 will be processed free once per 30 days per account. Subsequent transfers within the same month OUT of AM1 are subject to a fee of 0.25 BTC for transfers of 49 shares or less.
- Transfers OUT of AM1 are always free for any transfer of 50 shares or more, but still have the 30-day limit between requests.
- Export requests will be submitted to ASICMINER once per week, if your request does not make it into the current week, it will be processed the following week. Please note that confirmations and status updates will NOT be provided until the process is complete.

How to Export to Direct Shares:
1. Push your AM1 shares directly back to the issuer, by using the "Xfr" feature on your Portfolio page at HavelockInvestments.com
2. Send an email to tat.investments@gmail.com that details the quantity of the shares that you pushed, the wallet address & email address you want them to have in ASICMINER's direct share records.
3. After we receive confirmation from Friedcat that the transfer is complete, we will notify you.

The email should be sent to Havelock Investments email instead of tat.investments from 1.3. 2014, right?

Next release will feature Coinbase, BitPay and Kraken as exchange sources (in addition to Bitstamp, BTC China and BTC-E). MtGox however is going out.
Would you be upset if MtGox is no longer available?

I know it is kind of black humor, but ... Well, we have what we voted for in your little survey. Smiley
187  Economy / Securities / Re: [Havelock] Bitcoin Difficulty Derivative (BDD) - Now Live! on: February 24, 2014, 10:55:29 PM
I'm ok with the 2% man fee. But as the fee affects arbitrageurs more than others, I'd like to see the auto-exchange first. That would be some kind of value for the additional fee.

I second this. That's a fair condition. Get auto-exchange up, have it running for a week or two to make sure it works properly, then pass a motion for mgmt fee.

I also think this is a fair proposal.

Mnoho jich funguje spíše na principu hazardu "budu jeden z prvních, kdo to začne těžit, a prodám všechno dříve než ti ostatní".

Now, can we go back to this being a support thread? Thanks.

a teď

Obecně a stručně....

I must say I am currently satisfied with the choice of exchanges and current plans.
But perhaps with all those "include this averaging service and include that averaging service" there is a room for yet another improvement (available in expert mode) and that is "custom price". It would work as weighted average over user-selected (checkboxed :-)) exchanges.

Is there a thread exclusive to BTC-e operation/problems/announcements without all these altcoins advertising?

Before the 'no plans' response for Nxt or other coins proposed, how about the following:

1. Let us know the criteria for having a coin added
2. If support aren't involved in the decisions, please let us know who to talk with

The community would LOVE to provide the right information for your consideration.

screw your dump coin..  how about this, use NXT for 2 years (you say it is awesome so no problem right?) and then come back if you are still using it then...  and by using it, meaning to use it more than just trade it for BTC

oh, you mean no one uses it to buy anything like 99% of the other junk coins?

You seem emotional, I'm not a counselor. Anyway...

Would love to see a few new coins on the exchange, especially Nxt.

I would like to see coins used by merchants without connection to other cryptocoins of fiat (that is for buying real goods and not buying BTC/LTC/ATC/... or trying to get rich in USD/EUR/RUR/CNY). I would even not be angry if some of current coins are removed. Especially I would not like to see NXT, DOGE or MAXcoin on BTC-e.  Smiley

It bothers me that the community doesn't stop using Gox. They have been major participators, or arguably even the instigators, of more than half of the major price crashes for bitcoin yet people still go back.

Big part of the community does. That is why the price is crashing. The ones still using MtGox will either loose their money (if they are wrong) or profit tremendously (if they are right). Both outcomes will be deserved and self-regulating.

Ultimate goal of Altcoin is to keep only Bitcoin (and Litecoin?) [and perhaps, perhaps Altcoin] alive.  Wink
Current malleability panic is a clever way to free weak hands and weak minds from their BTC (they will move to various P&D altcoins/scamcoins).
Altcoin will prevail.  Smiley
Plans within plans within plans.

I think we may want to let Namecoin exist, it does serve a distinct and important purpose.

Yeah.
