Why we are talking/thinking in US $ instead DRK Grin

By the way.. MasterNode > MasterNet

Hah, blindingly obvious but we all missed it - well done! This should be it.  Smiley

I copied your sig idea earlier on BTW, hope you don't mind.

I like Iris too.  The DarkNet is almost exclusively for illegal purposes. Darkcoin is about privacy and civil liberties. So maybe we should just avoid "Dark" altogether.

I think pricing per MB/GB makes more sense, but hey you could have it both ways, or impose caps, all priced up and selectable in-wallet.

Prices in that poll are on the high side IMO...

(10 cents / 0.0275 DRK (current exchange) * 1000000 daily users) / 1000 MNs = still 27.5DRK or ~$100 per day.

There is absolutely going to have to be a minumum MN spec (bandwidth!) for this though. And it's going to be near impossible to enforce that, so some mechanism for booting shitty underspecced VPS's off the network would need to exist.

Call it Siri just for the free publicity when the Apple legal behemoth craps itself in rage. Then pretend it was a typo.

Or call it the Anonymising Secure Network. NSA vs ASN.  Tongue

DarkNet is OK .. or DarkTunnel  Wink

I'm in for DarkNet

I second.... for DarkNet. if we are going to stick with the "dark"  moniker... then sticking with it here makes sense.   DRKNet/ DarkNet gets my vote... its simple.

The problem with Darknet is that it is already a term associated with Tor, maybe we could create fresh branding, to something more marketable. Just my 2 duffs.

Good idea on the <TBC> by Darkcoin.

Brocade, Avalon, Sanctuary.

I was trying to come up with something that went in and out easily without resistance, but all I could think of was condom..... ah well, don't think that'll work though it's perfect... protects you as well!

DarkSheath?

I vote for Darkland. Or DarkSkein. Or DarkBrane. DarkTopography/Topology. Or Dark(Mani)Fold. Forget the Dark bit, just call it The Manifold.

Web, net, mesh, brocade, tapestry. DarkTapestry.

DarkSpace. DarkMatters. DarkEnergy. DRKSpace.

DarkRealm. DarkDemesne / DarkDomain. DD! Who doesn't like DD's?

DarkTown! DarkZone. DRKZ.

DarkWell. Darkopolis.

If open bazzar acceptés darkcoin would we need darktor  Huh Just thinking out loud

open bazaar = market place
dark tor = deep net

From the brief look I've had at OB you can pay with whatever multisig-capable currency you like, the payment side is completely up to the multisig parties. As vertoe has already sussed, all that really needs doing is some kind of selector / filter for DRK maybe. And possibly better packaging so it's a 1-click install, although it's not exactly difficult as is.

Anyone who wants a distributed marketplace should have a play with it, maybe come up with some (or noodle with existing) DRK artwork that would fit if you'd like to see a rebranded DarkBazaar.

That is total BS. In over 6 months, that never happened to me, or anyone else. May my customers come and chime as well.

You're a sad example of a human being.

This clown doesn't have a MN. He's just in a different lunatic phase right now. Maybe got moved to a different ward, who knows?

Another security question. If you use cold wallet for your masternode, is there any danger when someone compromises your server?
Even if they manage to break the authentication they still have no access to the local wallet with 1,000 drk and can only seize wallet.dat on the server,
which is usually empty, right?

PS I still have a decent pw, disabled root etc. but would like to know what is the worst thing that can happen Smiley

Correct, if your server is compromised the worst that can happen is that they shut down the daemon and/or use the server for their own purposes, which you can put a stop to by contacting your VPS provider or shutting it down and re-imaging it with a different IP and security credentials from your dashboard. Hopefully you have monitoring in place to alert you that something is amiss, and can act quickly.

The likelihood of your server getting hacked if you have nothing but darkcoind running, all ports except 9999 and ssh closed, and a strong password or ssh key is very, very low, and if it happens it will be almost certainly down to sloppy practices in your password/key management locally, so make sure your local box is locked down too.

whining

For the same reason you shouldn't be forced to, because somebody was lucky and mined 'em up and those coins then belonged to them.

No, I agree with you on this.  I like aigeezer's suggestion to get charities to accept dark and go from there.  Anyone interested in supporting a charity can then donate or speak up for them for donations in the forums.  I think that would be best.

whining

Why not go make something yourself instead of whining that someone elses hard work didn't make you rich overnight?

Is it because you're too lazy, too stupid, or both?

Funnel 10% of MN fees to Save the Children, OXFAM, whatever. I'll sign up now. Let's see the media tackle that.

"Darkcoin! OMG isn't that illegal?"
"No, actually we raise shitloads of money for starving children."

If the name stays (and probably it will), then that's the forward thinking we need (risk mitigation regarding marketing issue).
Such measures would effectively reduce a lot of the potential negativity we may see some day.
Sends a positive vibe to the outside world.

Great suggestion. Let's see what MN owners have to say on that.

Give users the option in the client: Use Masternodes that donate to good causes Yes/No? (There is no extra cost to you.)

Put a ticker in every client: Charitable funds raised so far: $$$$$$$$$$ - make everyone who touches a Darkcoin wallet aware that they are doing something positive for the world with every single transaction.

The idea of DarkTor is amazing. The price of $0.50 a day is too much when you compare at what prices you could find a VPN. I think that $0.20 would be somewhere around the perfect mark, while imposing some sort of limit. You don't want the user (abuser) maxing out the network and just forcing huge amount of traffic for no reason.

Set a cap, or just charge based on bandwidth. Any user will already need a Darkcoin wallet, it keeps track DRKTor use and deducts fees accordingly.

The network already calculates fees based on tx size and charges the client - a lot of that code could be repurposed without too much bother.

You would have a DRK balance for your coins, and a DRKTor balance for your comms.

The existing establishment is going to throw untold amounts of money at a media blitzkrieg for many years to come, it's gonna get really ugly before it gets better for Crypto, but as Alex said, 75% of the world is without banking and developed infrastructure, we have to ride Google's wave of getting cheap smartphones into the hands of the masses to show all their ads, and just make sure we have a super light and secure Darkcoin app running in the background  Wink

There's already an Android wallet. It's on Play. If anyone hasn't used it yet, take it for a spin, tell the dev you like it, send him half a DRK... to work with DS+ AFAICT he just needs to update to the latest daemon and launch it with darksend enabled, rounds set to 2, and a new anonymised balance widget on screen.

So donate a small amount and ask politely for an RC4 update.  Smiley

And that's an absolute. In reality I'd be surprised if MN numbers went over 10,000 as the currency is also to be used for transaction volume. DRK can't function as a currency if there is no liquidity due to all the coins being tied up in cold wallets!

We have a decimal point... integer number of coins in circulation is a irrelevant. More DRK tied up in cold storage = better price stability.
1817  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | DarkSend+ Is Live! on: August 20, 2014, 10:36:32 AM
Once the average bitcoin user realizes how transparent the blockchain is and how easy it is to link their meta data and even personal identity to their transactions, they will understand the importance of anonymity (I think the average bitcoin user does not see this yet). They will soon realize that their wives can look up their accounts because they once posted a wallet address on their facebook profile and now she can see all the porn and gambling sites where hubby spent money.

Darkcoin can leverage this growing awareness to its advantage by continuously reminding people that darkcoin prevents this type of personal infringement.

In a world fool of people stupid enough to post all their personal information on Facebook when it's no secret that Facebook sells it to anyone at all and then wonder why for example their medical insurance costs so much ("Aunt Betty died of cancer last week, just like Uncle Tom and Little Judy! Sad") I think Jo Public is going to be a hard sell.

The target demographic should be businesses and organisations who have a hard need for financial and informational privacy.

That's what I'd like to see - DRK devs concentrate on providing the underlying framework, so that whoever wants to can (for a fee in DRK) have their own private comms network running on top, branded however they like.

Provide the API, let third parties run the services.

Web 3.0 is the Master Nodes.

They are not the same thing.  The Master Nodes are an infrastructure service that has to be paid for. Bandwidth is not for the currency to sort out. That's an issue over, err, bandwidth. Its not linked to mining. Its not linked to block chain bloat. Its hardware and routing speeds. If you pay enough, you get the bandwidth.

I think I'd be less worried about this if I was convinced that it wouldn't corrupt Evan's original equilibrium principle between masternode supply and demand so that the majority of the coin supply was kept in circulation.

That's partly what I meant by "highly controlled" in my little rant above.

Right now, this works because the PE ratio of a masternode is calculated (and fixed) purely in terms of DRK (at 20% of the mined supply). What that means in fiat depends on the value of DRK's role as a currency.

On the other hand, with the new service model, the PE ratio will be calculated in terms of FIAT and will have a fixed revenue in fiat (in $ per hour of service). This turns the whole thing on its head because 1 Darkcoin now becomes no more than a share unit in a fiat revenue model. The price equilibrium will now revolve around the fiat ROI on a masternode and all DRKs will go out of circulation at that price point.

That's where I see the huge banana skin in this whole idea.

Evan obviously meant to say 0.05DRK. My MNs will perform services for DRK, you can take your filthy dollars somewhere else. Wink
