1801  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ARTICLE] Bitcoin To Collapse? on: September 01, 2011, 12:34:33 PM
Remember this no matter where, SC goes, it will never stop being a BITCOIN. Just like no matter what Linux you are talking about (ubuntu, redhat, debian), they are all still Linux in the end...

This statement is very close to a scam...

I want to make it clear, especially for newcomers who might be mislead by the quoted statement, that SolidCoin is a different currency, that it is in no way supported by Bitcoin,
and that when you buy 100 Solidcoins, you do not own 100 bitcoins. There is no compatibility between them, as suggested by the poster.
The promoters of SC are trying to make you believe that you can have "the same thing" for 1/100 of the price. Don't be naive.

Of course, what I just wrote is completely obvious for many people.
However, this forum is attracting many non-technical users, who are completely new to this, and some of these people might be an easy target for scams and manipulation.
This is why I believe is is necessary to write this, and to warn people against dangerous investments.

What the Solidcoins guys are not telling you ...

you mean "the Solidcoin guy": that's a single developer regexp monkey, even if he writes "we" on his website

... because many of the details haven't been released yet

how can you expect to be taken seriously ?

With all the later trolling going on, and competing clones appearing like worms after rain, I see bitcoin FAR from collapse, but stronger than ever.

I woud like to announce the availability of a new clone: GaseousCoin

edit: GaseousCoins are coins you can breathe
the client is still vaporware

First 50 to post about the "SolidCoin is ready for Bitcoin collapse" article on their blog/forum/twitter* - 20 SC

interestingly, it is nowhere said that the post have to be positive about solidcoin...  Coinhunter, can get the bounty for my above post ?

Disclaimer: I do not support the views in this article. Have a read and enjoy!  Cheesy

it's funny how the mybitcoin and bitomat incidents are attributed to features of Bitcoin that Solidcoin would not have... this is shameless propaganda

The tone of this article is similar to Gaddafi threatening NATO countries one month ago...

Can you feel the fear ? It looks like the end is near for SolidCoin

Just wanted to get some other opinions here. Seems like this forum has been overrun by a few users who post continuously in a need to astroturf. Its also turned into a ground where it is free for hate speech and spreading false rumors. Worse of all, it seems to have been effective and the false information is spreading to other websites. So, has this forum outlived its value, and is it time for the honest bitcoin community to take up new grounds?

just ignore some of the threads

New article posted, we have had some queries from people wondering about SolidCoin dealing with Bitcoins collapse and the future, so we wrote an article detailing some things. There is also a bounty for promoting it, check it out at the site.

http://solidcoin.info/solidcoin-ready-for-bitcoin-collapse.php

Wow.  I didn't think it was possible, but you seem to be getting more sleazy by the day.

indeed. please do not remove this article; it exposes the true nature and motivation of Coinhunter :-)
1810  Other / Archival / Re: delete on: August 31, 2011, 03:20:31 PM
Solidcoin will never threaten Bitcoin.

I do own some bitcoins, and I am not saying this because I want to preserve their value.
When my money is at stake, I am very agnostic and practical; if I really thought that solidcoin had the slightest possibility of replacing bitcoin, I would certainly diversify and buy some.

However, I am not doing it (just as I did not buy ixcoin or i0coin). Here is why:

- Solidcoin would have a future if bitcoin did not exist. Unfortunately, guess what, Bitcoin was invented 2.5 years before, and strong network effects ensure that it will keep its dominant position. Bitcoin cannot be threatened by a clone. I order to suceed, an alternate blockchain needs to propose something really different.
- The differences between SC and BTC are not monetary differences, but instead technical differences of the protocol (difficulty retargetting, time interval between blocks), and modifications of the client, that are wrongly presented as differences of the currency (encryption, buttons). On the monetary side, BTC and SC are exactly the same thing, because they both offer a currency that has a limited supply. In other words, solidcoin is just another Bitcoin clone.
- If another blockchain posed a real threat to the value of Bitcoin, it would be possible to update Bitcoin, as the OP suggests. Such an update is technically trivial, but it needs to be accepted by a majority of miners. If the threat was real, I am sure that such a majority would be quickly found. At this point, however, I do not see this happening. The protocol differences implemented in SC do not provide a real advantage. Developers seem to agree that a 3-minutes interval between confirmations poses security problems, especially in a large network.
- Solidcoin's market cap is currently neglectible compared to Bitcoin. I do not think that this will ever change. Solidcoin's network might stay alive for some time, but that does not mean that its value will take any significance.
- There is no evidence for a real economy sustaining solidcoin's value. The merchants that have decided to "accept solidcoin" were bought with bounties. So much for their objectivity.
- Solidcoin's "early adopters" (I am talking of people who buy solidcoins) are speculators who might dream that solidcoin will experience the same value increase as bitcoin. This is the only thing that sustains solidcoin's value, because there's no economy there. Unfortunately, this will not happen. Again, it could happen only if bitcoin did not exist :-) History happens only once.

so, if you are planning to invest some money in solidcoin, think again. it is a zero-sum game. In order for you to win, someone has to lose.
OTOH, if you are a miner looking for profitability, just be rational and go for it, but do not hold your solidcoins too long or you will be burnt :-)

Given the improvements such as SC in the difficulty re-targeting algo, the encrypted wallet in the client and address checking among others. How will BTC remain relevant when MtGox and TH start exchanging SC to USD?

Serious question and would appreciate serious answers.

thank you for this serious question.
did you receive the 25 SC bounty after posting it ?

(see http://solidcoin.info/bounties.php )
1812  Economy / Speculation / Re: 10$ in the future? on: August 31, 2011, 08:53:12 AM
There are indicators that should be taken seriously.

MtGox is the market that has the highest liquidity; for that reason, it is the best place for short term traders and speculators.
In contrast, other markets have a larger spread, therefore transactions that take place there are much more likely to reflect demand related to the real economy.

With that in mind, it is interesting to observe that the volume of bitcoins exchanged on some of these
markets has been increasing consistently over the last few months:
- btcchina has had the most spectacular growth: http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/btcnCNY#vzm1g10zm2g25
- virtexCAD has had a nice growth too: http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/virtexCAD#vzm1g10zm2g25
- bitcoins are now the 3rd currency traded at virwox, in terms of volume: https://www.virwox.com/  (4Mio SLL/day, slightly behind the USD)

Haha doesn't add up? Jeez. I bought most of my SC at a relatively high price (0.03ish) after transferring from gox, I have donated quite a lot, I have also lost some through trading. Like I said, I don't value BTC anymore and I'm pretty much doing whatever I want with them. I also didn't say how much BTC I have in the exchange either. Oooo it's such a mystery, better get your detective hats on and find out the "truth". Haha. Kids are funny.

that was a funny post.

1814  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] SolidCoin - new and improved block chain. Secure from pools on: August 30, 2011, 04:42:11 AM
Perhaps the "10500" was his holdings in USD, and not SC. The number is bare, no unit specifier.
no. please read his whole post. there is absolutely no ambiguity about that. he is talking about solidcoins. he is answering a question about how many SC he holds.

1815  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] SolidCoin - new and improved block chain. Secure from pools on: August 30, 2011, 04:26:59 AM
I have about 10500 in holdings currently.

this is getting ridiculous...

Why?

because the same guy writes, a few posts above, that he moved all his USD and BTC into solidcoins:

I couldn't care less about "gaining money" from SolidCoins, I don't need any extra money. However I'll give them to people and businesses and do my part to support a growing economy. I'm not going to give them to BTC trolls or people that aren't supportive of SolidCoin. I get a lot more joy from helping out people that don't have much and helping them gain financial freedom.

I've moved all my BTC and USD into SolidCoins (not that much anyhow, only about $10,000) simply because I'm unsure about Bitcoin's future and don't want to be left with worthless coins in a few weeks. The sites I have generating BTC go straight into SolidCoins. If I lose it all it doesn't impact me financially as this is more like a hobby, especially given the insecurity surrounding Bitcoin and p2p currencies recently. I'm not investing any more into it besides what I generate from the sites themselves.

soo, explain me, how come that about $10,000 were turned into 10500 solidcoins Huh?
can you seriously believe that ? at the current exchange rate, he would get 10 times more.

anyway, there are so many things that are inconsistent in his story, it just smells like your usual scam.

read his quote: it begins with "I couldn't care less about gaining money" (he must be the new Mother Theresa), and in the next paragraph he explains that he moved his BTC to SC because he was unsure about Bitcoin's future value (hmm, could not care less, but still trying to preserve it).

And yet, the outcome of that wealth preservation operation is a missing zero in his wealth !!! $10000 became 10500 SC !!!
Perhaps he's going to explain that this is because he gives away so many to "people and businesses who support the economy"

Come on, these are lies, lies, and lies.

Remember that people receive bounties from him when they blog positively about solidcoin, or when they accept it on their websites...
When people get paid to advertise something, do not expect them to tell you the truth.

What are the differences between bitcoin and solidcoin?

Bitcoin will still be there in 1 year
1818  Economy / Speculation / Re: Here we go again, another major price drop for bitcoins on: August 28, 2011, 04:12:01 PM
Its been pretty stable for over a month now, sitting around 10 to 11 bux even during the weekend down time.  Now its pretty quickly dropped to 8 bux a coin.  So how low we going this time.  I bought a bunch when it hit 9 today, now wish I would have waited of course.  Problem is, if bitcoin keeps freaking going from 11 to 7, to 12, to 8 back and forth its just making it harder and harder for there to be a strong bitcoin economy.  Sellers are not going to want to sell products and services for something that changes its value so dramatically and so quickly.  We need to fix that somehow, it has to stabilize even if its at 5 bux a coin, it just has to be stable withing a dollar for there to ever be any future economy for bitcoin, or at least thats how I feel.

Don't worry, prices are going to be more stable. just give it some time :-)

We are seeing large price drops because a few early adopters are selling large amounts at once (the last major sale was 24k bitcoins)
OTOH, buyers tend to buy much smaller amounts, typically a few hundred bitcoins.
This means that those 24k btc, that were owned by a single person, are now in the hands of dozens of people.

Bitcoins might represent a large percentage of the wealth of some early adopters; for these people, it makes sense to diversify their assets, this is why they sell.
However, each of those large sales tends to spread bitcoins among more people.
As time passes, there will be less and less people capable of causing these large prices drops.

1819  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Do we bring the value of BitCoins back up? on: August 26, 2011, 10:33:16 AM
Anyone have any ideas on bringing the value of BTC back up?

Whenever you need to buy something, check if you can buy it with bitcoins.
You can buy a lot of things with bitcoin, see for example spendbitcoins.com

Spending bitcoins does not mean that you cannot hoard some; just buy back the coins that you have spent if your goal is to keep a constant amount.

1820  Economy / Speculation / Re: Holy CRAP the manipulator has pulled out!!!!! Freefall seems inevitable on: August 26, 2011, 09:37:39 AM
This looks very bad for us. This manipulator that I have spoken so much about, just read any of my previous posts, that has increased the ask side of Bitcoin by probably over 10,000-20,000 bitcoins during the last few weeks, has seemed to pulled out!

This is huge, there is absolutely no supply. Last time he pulled out we had jumped to $30 dollars in no time. There are almost no ask walls anymore. Before today every .10 cents was walled with 2,000 to 3,000 ask wall, now it is down to the hundreds (or what it normally is without the manipulator).

I am not sure what the heck is going on or why this manipulator decided to pull out. But like I have been saying, there was no way that he could keep a ceiling on the bitcoin price by buying all the dollars coming into the market. Eventually this manipulator will pull out and it seems that he has after taking severe losses today.

This could honestly be a really bad rally coming. It may even reach new highs. I hope most of you have bought when it was in the $11's and $12's like I recommended.

Without this manipulator who seemed to be the sole reason to keep the bitcoin price low since the rise from $5's, bitcoin price will finally settle to its real market price of around $20 - $50.

I will probably sell bitcoins only when the price finally stablizes around those levels, and only when it is obvious that the manipulator is not in the market. I do not trust a bitcoin price that is based on this single manipulator, as always happens when he pulls out the price skyrockets.

Just read my past posts and all is like i have been saying.
