Tekcoin's compound annual interest rate is over 6300%. Hardly seems like a tough decision at all.
Isn't there risk it runs out of control?

Plus, why isn't everyone on his dog buying TEKcoin?

I will put my euros in TEKcoin, I think.
1804  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TEKcoin PoS/PoW on Cryptsy! 30 days 40% interest! on: May 09, 2014, 12:43:02 AM
According to you, what is better:

Investing at just-dice.com (last year, it was 56% interest)
Buying TEKcoins?
I feel like TEKcoin is better, but looks too good to be true. Plus, just-dice.com had this awaka incident were people lost a lot of money, but since then some barriers have been installed so that it could not happen again.

Of course you will be biased. And I expect an answer like "divide between the two and check after one year or even a month", but if you could give me some more arguments (one way or another); I'd be happy to read them.

Thank you
(I should get my monthly 100 euros for crypto in one week)

I had no problem compiling TEK-V1.1 on arch linux with qt5.
Could you give me your command line? Ideally in a format like this one (I am the author, this is for monero):
Code:
cd ~ && wget https://www.dropbox.com/s/e3ggvs8zife27dj/install_boost.sh && chmod +x ./install_boost.sh && ./install_boost.sh && sudo apt-get install git -y && sudo apt-get install cmake -y && git clone git://github.com/monero-project/bitmonero.git && cd bitmonero && mkdir build && make
That is a command line that is fool-proof, because all of it is inside.
1806  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Proof of Stake Coin List on: May 09, 2014, 12:15:19 AM
Could you explain the difference between yearly and NVCS?
Yearly, I understand, it is like a bank account, right? But NVCS? I know it is related to Novacoin, but apart from this, I don't understand. I think it means this is a maximum, whilst yearly are an exact number.

Thank you
1807  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 08, 2014, 08:08:30 PM
Wow, guys! That's ain't cool! Bad time for MRO: hack attack, high diff ( don't know the diff raised so fast and so high but IMO there must be someone with farm/botnet/isntamine) !
Quite the opposite, this is GOOD time. Attacks means people are interested. You don't attack a worthless coin. You attack the valuable ones.
1808  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 08, 2014, 08:05:38 PM
is it the reason that I have not found a block in the last week because

1. the hash rate is so high
2. the blockchain attack that has occured (conspiracy theory -- tft and friends)
3. both 1 and 2

another question:
1. is cryptonote  cicada 3301 with an ultra optimized miner
2. bytecoin user and satoshi are one and the same.

should we hold off mining until we get the right blockchain. thank you

1 yes
2 no, also there have been an issue today now solved but you will have to stop mining for a while monero.cc/blog/security-announcement-update/

other question
1 no one knows, that's the point Smiley
2 since we don't know who is satoshi, it could be - whatever the answer, I believe it definitely help gathering attraction toward cryptonote - but an urban legend can only bring you that far, you must deliver after that and this is exactly what we are doing Smiley

You may hold off mining till the pool arrives on continue anyway, hopping to win at the lottery. We won't give you a direction, both decisions are equally valid.

Thanks. Unfortunately, I could not sync my wallet on Windows despite letting it open the whole night. I prefer the just sit back and watch approach instead of the stress of hoping a trade will go your way.
+1. Although with practice, it's more than guessing - but still dangerous and uncertain.
1811  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TEKcoin PoS/PoW on Cryptsy! 30 days 40% interest! on: May 08, 2014, 03:59:40 AM
I find it very strange that there was
1 page in 2013
2 pages in 2014 before april
explosion starting from April 2014

Was this coin lethargic on what? I suspect it is the HBN  investment thread which is responsible for this.

Anyway, since my point is keeping it long term, prices fluctuations do not matter much for me. I am more concerned about why so much people posting.
OTOH, when I see newer coins going sky high then silent in just one month...
1812  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TEKcoin PoS/PoW on Cryptsy! 30 days 40% interest! on: May 08, 2014, 03:34:46 AM
higher interest rate: yes cent

why was coin created: I had already done the scrypt concept with HBN and Tranz took that over (awesome! i knew it was better off in his hands. looks like i made a good call  Smiley ) and wanted to work on the next project along the same lines but push the stake concept more and try sha256.

Why sha? At the time it was in concept and released Asic was just coming down in price enough to put them in a lot of hands,(erupters and blades etc just getting to the price point of massive adoption) and there wasn't many sha coins to pick from(aug/sept).

Energy efficiency has changed since for all the mining gears, however TEKs design is such that the  PoS can move the chain efficiently and keep it secure. If you watch the profitability of mining TEK it almost always stays lower than btc, and if it jumps higher it wont stay long.

TEK doesnt need alot of hashpower to be secure, you cant 51% with hash alone on a PoS coin. You cant lock the chain of tek with large PoW miner drop off, or with a sudden massive increase like a multipool hitting it. Its been done and it was not an issue when it happened.
Thank you Thundertoe for these informations. I did not know you are the one behind HBN. Unfortunately, I cannot compile the wallet and the binaries do not work on Manjaro Linux neither. I resorted to fire up a Windows XP VM.

I would like to get some TEK, I see a great future for this coin. Unfortunately, I am broke at the moment (plus, I do not know where to buy TEK). Any faucet or giveway? If I manage to get some BTC, where could I buy TEK? (found it)
My TEK address is: BZ5TBTR9L5uRL97kqYkvqMyzbhfK4fsojF

Thank you!

(by the way, I already directed someone looking for good coins to TEK)

What does a checkpoint provides?
1814  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 08, 2014, 12:01:04 AM
Code:
Error: refresh failed: daemon is busy. Please try later. Blocks received: 0

Are you as tired of it as I am? I finally found the solution (after losing around three days of mining):

Mine from the daemon, even on your local machine! (the one with the wallet).

Don't mine from the wallet, only use it for checking your balance. Plus, by forgetting about wallet mining altogether, people have less thing to remember => easier learning.

(Unix)
Code:
./bitmonerod <MRO_address> <number_of_threads>
(Windows)
Code:
bitmonerod.exe <MRO_address> <number_of_threads>

If you can confirm it works for you (enter refresh on your wallet and you don't have the dreaded red message anymore), then I will update the http://monero.cc/getting-started.
1815  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 07, 2014, 11:52:07 PM
I liked this coin but now I have to stop mining because it will take 10 days to find a block... then maybe in 5 days the difficulty doubles... then it'll take 20 days to find a block... etc... and I will never find any more blocks.
You can 1) be patient 2) mine another coin until the pool delivers (should not be long) 3) buy MRO.

These options are not mutually exclusive (especially if you have several computers).
1816  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 07, 2014, 11:36:04 PM
Good, I'm sorry if it was disproportional.
I think we all had a bad day because of this FUD attack.

My main questions were about skyrocket difficulty, a potentially unfair optimized miners, and an unfair take-over-control procedure.

As the miner is open-source now, and the difficulty chart can't be explained anyhow, the only one to ask you is how did it happen with the renaming and cloning the git.
Skyrocketing difficulty: it was not us, but none of us (us = the habitués of IRC, the "team") cannot give evidence that it was not us. So this all about trust. Notice the difficulty dropped not long after Noodle released the code. <conspiracy>Of course, we can imagine that Noodle release a different code than the one he was actually using and is just pretending to be the nice guy.</conspiracy>. More believable assumption is that someone else noticed the correction and corrected them but did not say it (à la ArtForz).

Unfair optimized miner: Well, now the code is release, this is passé (I am not implying it was unfair at any moment, save for Noodle testing - I just say that since the code is release, this is not worth debatting it anymore). Notice though that for a long time, the Windows code was twice slower than the Unix one.

Unfair take-over procedure. Public announcement on the forum hours in advances, public voting on IRC with a votebot. Sure, a lot of people who are in monero now were not there at the moment, but this is inevitable, especially for a renaming. If it was for something recurring, like election, there would other opportunities, but here there is not. I dont like the word "bitcoin" but well, it will "grow on me" (the CEO of Nike did not like the Nike logo when it was proposed - but it grew on him).

I hope my answers address your question. If not, don't hesitate to ask more.

Rias, I don't think there is any intentional deception on part of the dev team. Most of what you've pointed out was simply the result of hasty decision making. I know this because I was present for much of it. For example, when the coin was renamed, tacotime, smooth, eizh, david, myself and maybe 2 or 3 other people voted on it. You can say we were being "secretive", but at the time we pretty much were the only stakeholders and accounted for the vast majority of MRO's hashrate. Edit: It's also worth noting that a public naming discussion was attempted, but only resulted in a domain race.:
Yes, this actually what convinced me to do it on the forum. Someone just registered bitmonero(.org or .com, I don't remember) and bitmone.ro.

I have little reason to defend MRO as I've stated plenty that I think it has long term flaws and some important decisions were hastily made that I personally witnessed on irc. However, I'm pretty certain there is no foul play involved and these folks took a lot of care to make the launch as fair as possible.

As Wikipedia says: "assume good faith" Smiley

Could you remind me of these flaws you perceived? I honestly don't remember.

and the OP still looks like a pre-ANN so newbies have no idea what to do or how to mine
Original complaint for information.

Hi, I just got information about this coin from the TEKcoin dev.
I did not find a useful recap of what CENT is, what are its peculiarities.
What I am looking for: an PoS coin with high interest rate.

Thank you.

You can see changes I have made by looking at my commits on github. Coin control, stake weight monitoring, etc.
I can't compile it on Manjaro (it happens a lot to me - Linux is increasingly becoming "Ubuntu"n which is slow as hell compared to the nimble Manjaro, based on Arch). Could you give a link to precompiled binary? Usually, Binaries for Ubuntu work in Manjaro too - it is only compilation that is getting difficult.
I will build with ubuntu and see if I can get you the right files.  If you want you can try the tekcoin-qt-linux.pro that I just put on my github repo.  It removes the windows library locations that chokes up Linux compilations.

Edit - Also keep in mind that if you are working from command line and not looking for GUI, then you will need to build with one of the makefiles in the src directory rather than building the qt client.
Thank you presstab. I will try compiling with you new version. Meanwhile, did you success in compiling on Ubuntu, do you have a precompiled?
1820  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 07, 2014, 07:28:42 PM
I was actually hoping that you were busy writing a reply to my topic. How many times should I ask the question so that you start answering it?
As I said earler: when you will apologize for insulting people (which as nothing to do with agreeing or not with your content), then I will reply. As long as you will be rude, I won't reply.

For all: this holds true to anyone, not just Rias. I don't reply to people resorting to insults - other may, not me.
Don't see an insult, but ok, we'll make it more corteous:
Good, now we can talk again Smiley
But since things have changed so fast since then, could you sum up the question wihch still make sense for me to answer to?[/quote]
