1141  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Stake Bounty on: July 22, 2014, 04:56:18 PM
I pledged on the sixth of July that I would give 100% of my staking to the stake bounty. And I deliver. I'm adding 25282.8479 HYP to the stake bounty (pAvP3gYfuyDVbUt98ToMbwU9rwEdBV1dHW).

Bounty team:
Members of the bounty team pledge to redirect at least one part of their own stake to the "stake bounty" address. In order to not corrupt the experiment, they will refrain from sending their principal to the stake bounty address (they can still send some to the "regular generic bounty" address).

- David Latapie (100% then 25% once enough members)
Now, if two other persons would pledge to send some of their stake on the bounty, that would be great Smiley I would move to 25% of my stake. Other don't have to send 100% or even 25%. Just send. And after a while, the bounty could feed itself by pure staking.

Additionally (I leave it to presstab since he is handling the bounty wallet), if the bounty is meant to stake periodically, it will by itself secure the blockchain. Killing plenty of birds with one stone!

Come on, go pledging, HYPsters Smiley

We have started a new bounty wallet address if anyone would like to donate to it.  As David suggested a while back, a bounty wallet that stakes and accumulates more coins would be very helpful.

Address: pAvP3gYfuyDVbUt98ToMbwU9rwEdBV1dHW
And to check the amount of coin in the staking bounty: http://hyp.cryptospread.com:2751/address/pAvP3gYfuyDVbUt98ToMbwU9rwEdBV1dHW
1143  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: July 22, 2014, 04:33:39 PM
Closed source can be everything and nothing.

When and if they open source I think maybe someone can peer review it and then we can discuss it further.
You should remember that open source is only as good as the time you spend at actually checking the code.
=> open source is good, audited open source is better
1144  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MINT] Mintcoin Developer Releases Social Assets to the Community on: July 21, 2014, 10:31:30 PM
We don't need to close this thread because cryptomommy now has control of the dev's account with the username mintcointeam.
Speaking of that; a lesson I learnt from karmacoin is to share the OP account to handle scalability. This is what we've done for monero and it helps.

That's how good projects live; with community's backing. I think MINT will have value and growth as long as there is a community behind it; doing development, marketing, and other things that makes a project alive.
Well said! And thank your for the updates!

I don't if there is some kind of language difficulty or something with you

but there is clearly an issue here with the mintcoin development team that needs to be resolved before they can be trusted.

I wouldn't download anything they are involved with until this is resolved, but if you want to go right ahead.
Must have been a language difficulty

Last version is 1.10. It was done by presstab, mintcointeam attributed it to itself.
I try compiling from source from mintcoin project repo and the repo did not have 1.10 since the start was still very slow and the blockchain was compatible (whilst it is supposed not to be compatible with 1.10)
Then I moved to presstab's code. I know him well from TEK and now HYP (we are co-dev on this one), I am even the one who proposed presstab for helping with code. So I compiled with his git repo and it worked flawlessly (well, I am still synchronizing the blockchain but otherwise, no complaint).
So :
- trust: checked
- working: checked
- latest code: checked

I'll talk with presstab and cryptomummy about submitting a PR (push request, merging presstab's code with mintcoin-project code).

First of all thanks Crypto Mommy for taking up this coin development on your shoulders and bringing out more clarity here !
Thanks David Latapie for still caring for the coin and working for it (NGO registration) and my only personal view, i would not mind you taking all premine if left  Tongue for that NGO registration (Verified)  Wink as got into Mintcoin just for that reason only ! Only thing is clarity of usage which was missing before ! Even wanted to thank presstab and dallas5 for their efforts !
Well, thanks for the encouragement Smiley There is no premine left, save the part for the two bounties and I will certainly not take them Smiley I hope presstab and dallas5 will pass by to read your thanks.

Regarding the push request: I was wrong, the code was merged, so ignore all of my "presstab repository" rambling. Apologies for the confusion it generated.

I assumed they gave up. Combination of assuming I would never deliver, plus no one else to work with them (their other partner left Mintcoin earlier, and TheAlty too) and finally and most importantly, price going down while he doesn't have any premine left. Plus being busy and moving on to other things as well as conflict between them.

I find that explanation lacking. Why give the accounts to someone that had been having problems with if they gave up?

it's easier to just walk away.

how do we know the accounts weren't hacked? we don't.
I think that you are postulating that cryptomommy is a scamer, and then confirmation bias starts rolling. So I'd say the best course of action for us is to just let the facts speak for themselves, since there is no way you could be convinced otherwise.

Sure it does. It's 6 months experience for free Tongue Thanks.

Also, how can I help getting monero on track? I'm planning on donating to the dev team when I get some spare money, and the Portuguese mnemonic word list is already under way so I don't know what else I can do...

At the moment most of the urgent / important tasks require an in-depth knowledge of cryptography and C / C++, but as things progress there will be things that will come up that will require more soft skills. As and when we have a need for that we will definitely put the call out:)
If this is not something you can apply for, you can spread the word around about Monero as being a serious coin. Target newcomers in alt first - so much pump and dumps where newcomers get scammed.
1153  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HYP] HyperStake | Proof of Stake | 750% Annual | Coin-Swap & AllCoin on: July 21, 2014, 04:28:52 PM
v1.0.3 might be mandatory.

i was getting 0 active connections on v1.0.2 and with v1.0.3 i have 5 active connections.
v1.0.3 adds a DNS seed so it is much easier to connect with peers. If you are having problems connecting to peers with v1.0.2 I would suggest either deleting peers.dat or updating versions, or both.
I see you already added the DNS Seed to the features matrix. Smiley

I wouldn't update your wallet until this gets resolved.

this could be a scam to hard fork and destroy mint, by btc holders.

"goat trading" is a major bitcoin player
Until what get resolved? I must have missed a part. Presstab's code is legit, I don't know about the other 1.10 wallet.
1155  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MINT] Mintcoin Developer Releases Social Assets to the Community on: July 21, 2014, 03:59:10 PM
The old mintcointeam dev is not the one who wrote wallet 1.10. It was presstab (he was paid for this, but not credited). Credit where credit is due.
Do we have a Mintcoin address for presstab? I would like to give him full credit for this.
I PM'd him

I read that mintcointeam threatened me. That's true, but this is nothing compared to what they did to Jessica.

also curious as to how it is that "mintcointeam" went from threatening you and Jessica to giving up all of the accounts associated with mintion admin to you.

that is a very curious state of affairs, care to comment on that?
I assumed they gave up. Combination of assuming I would never deliver, plus no one else to work with them (their other partner left Mintcoin earlier, and TheAlty too) and finally and most importantly, price going down while he doesn't have any premine left. You don't need an NGO to build a bounty pool. People are no more likely to donate to a registered NGO than they would be to a Wallet you have simply designated for such purpose.

If the level of trust is such that we need the gatekeeper handcuffed and tied down with regulations, the coin is finished.

My belief is there is more trust and faith in you than all the previous people involved combined.

That said, frankly I wouldn't donate a thing to anything they were involved with. If they were too blind in their dealings with the developer to realize they were being scammed and lied to, how could I possibly trust them now? It's simply poor judgement or collusion, I'm still undecided which ".
The NGO is meant to have a legal body for providing tax-deduction for fiat donation. Fiat => BTC => MINT (and hopefully one day Fiat => MINT), then staking. And once the money is needed by a Beneficiary (an environmental NGO), the MINT is converted back to fiat (if and only if it is not possible for them to buy straight with MINT or even BTC).

With time it could also lead to a greater confidence, but this is for later.

We don't plan to put the cart before the horese. Recognition comes from action, not the other way around. In other word, the NGO is not mean to increase confidence, it is meant to make something possible. Once it delivers, confidence will come.
1156  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MINT] Mintcoin Developer Releases Social Assets to the Community on: July 21, 2014, 02:50:52 PM
Hi everyone,

I did not want to post on the thread before I have something constructive to announce. This is the case now. I will take advantage of the opportunity to also reply to some other things.

Wallet 1.10

The old mintcointeam dev is not the one who wrote wallet 1.10. It was presstab (he was paid for this, but not credited). Credit where credit is due.

Linux version
(requested here)
Install (in YOURNAME/cryptos/mintcoin, plus create a MINT shortcut on the desktop)
Code:
mkdir -p ~/cryptos && cd ~/cryptos && rm -rf mintcoin && git clone git://github.com/presstab/mintcoin && cd mintcoin && qmake-qt4 mintcoin.pro && make && ln -s ~/cryptos/mintcoin/mintcoin-qt ~/Desktop/MINT
You really have to just open up a terminal, paste this command line and press enter. That's really all, no coding skill required! I can only see fours cases where it would not work:
- you do not have a recent distribution (e.g.: more than one year old) => update
- you do not have an Intel or AMD CPU (e.g.: Raspberry Pi) => won't work
- you do not have the correct dependancies => install them. The most obvious one is git (apt-get install git, yum git, pacman git, depending on your distribution)
- you use a non-English Desktop Environemment and the said DE does not use "Desktop" as the name for the Desktop => change the Desktop part in the command-line accordingly.

Plus, paspi has setup a ppa for Ubuntu-based distros and YamashitaRen has setup an AUR package for Arch-based distros (thus Manjaro)

Remember to delete the blockchain files.

FreeBSD version
The command above, with minimal tweaking, should work for FreeBSD too. Skeem, this is for you

Update
Presstab has no interest in updating Mintcoin (especially after not having been credited for this). But if it was, it would be this code
Code:
cd ~/cryptos/mintcoin && git pull && qmake-qt4 mintcoin-qt.pro && make

paspi, if you have a git with the latest mintcoin, I'd be happy to update the command-line accordingly

Mintcoin Fund
It never goes as expected, right? Well, Mintcoin Fund was no exception. Several back and forth with the French administration, plus chairmen being unreliable, I had to change things a lot for accomodating this. The first and hopefully final draft was just sent today. I'm expecting two weeks for a (hopefully positive) reply. For the record, I am on another NGO and this took even longer, so nothing that strange about it.

I would lie if I said that the takeover by Jessica did not influence positively my actions.

Miscellaneous
Some answers to various other questions left unanswered since my last post.

I don't pump and those who now me know this. Hyperstake is an experiment in PoS and results will inspire NOBL's transition to full PoS. As for Monero, it is Bitcoin 2.0 in my book - buy 8 BTC of it and don't sell before at least one year (if I was pumping, I would tell you to buy and sell a bit after). Or just read my interview on coins source.

Mintpal and Mintcoin came to life around the same time: first week of February. Even if they are officially unrelated, this is quite a coincidence. Considering that Mintcoin was Mintpal's first pump and it basically propelled the exchange to major league and that the exchange was great looking from day one, people have suspicions that Mintcoin was just a scamcoin meant to boost Mintpal's visibility. If that's the case, it worked very well but most importantly, it doesn't matter anymore because Mintcoin has a life of its own and the dev, whoever they were, are not there anymore.

I still own the donation wallet and I did not touch the bounty - and I won't. Paspi wil have the whole of his bounty, Redwood too, MintcoinFund too.

I read that mintcointeam threatened me. That's true, but this is nothing compared to what they did to Jessica. That and "forgetting" to credit presstab for his contribution to the wallet.

The premine have never been delivered. It was only pledged. The 50 millions for Green Sahara have never been delivered. As for the 5 millions for the Mintcoin Fund, I still have them, because I have not been asked any money yet by the French administration (I will, eventually). I did not bother getting compensation for the stamps Smiley

Cryptomommy is legit, I even called her (and the voicemail says Jessica Hartmann, so it would be a pretty elaborate scam) , we've had several mail exchanges over the previous months. Of course, I could be lying and be part of the conspirary too Smiley I don't know this goattrading and Paspi doesn't have his bounty, I still have  it.

This is all for now.

I read your brief of your history in Crypto just now on polo trollbox. 6 months, huh?

You all in monero now or keep some change to trade?

Just trying to learn from experience...  Wink
Yes, I arrived in January 2014, after I finished writing my master's thesis. The worst thing is I wanted to join for one year... Sad

I am not all in Monero, I have other altcoins. But my next fiat is planned to be mostly Monero. If you plan to trade, have some BTC left for dumps. Or else short. But I am terrible at both. I'd say 60% of my money is on monero (depend on valuation) and the rest in other alts, all PoS save for some Zetacoin - NOBL, MINT, HBN, CAP, PHS, TEK, GRW, HYP.

I don't think this will help you in anyway, but hey, here it is Smiley
