1821  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will change legal name to Bitcoin on: November 03, 2014, 04:27:28 PM
As an experiment I wonder if I set a 250-500 BTC donation cap to legally change my name to BITCOIN once the cap is reached if this would be achieved.
Maybe a smart contract to ensure I agree to no name changing after the fact etc. Shits and giggles but... would probably go viral lol... Mr Bitcoin Wins ... firts name Bitcoin surname Wins lol

Somebody already beat you to this idea, mate!

1824  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: November 01, 2014, 10:40:33 AM

Why do you guys want to be super rich so badly? What's the big deal? This is a serious question, could you guys answer why you want to be part of a wealthy elite? Don't you know the cons of being rich?

The cons of being rich?
Nope, that is a new concept for me.  Grin
1825  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you USE your BTC? on: October 31, 2014, 01:28:19 AM
Last week I managed to convince a classmate of mine to sell his rare collection of comics to me, in return of 0.5 btc. haha
I have never been successful in trying to get people into Bitcoin in real life, most of them are scared the price will keep getting down, theres not much i can do about that, I have explained them why is it a good idea to at least own 1 BTC if possible, everyone says im crazy.

It takes some time and effort to explain bitcoin to a total newbie.
I am sure they will be thanking you profusely in a few years from now.
1826  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: justcoin closes on: October 31, 2014, 01:25:22 AM

Quote
Dear Justcoin user,

Deposits are closed. Trading will close tomorrow, October 29th. We urge all users to withdraw their funds as soon as possible. Final deadline for withdrawals is November 11th. You may find useful information on wallets at https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet.

Please allow up to 24 hours for your withdrawals to process. We will manually batch withdrawals of all currencies. Cancelling a requested withdrawal will put you in the back of the line.

Justcoin is shutting down all operations. Our bank has notified us that it will no longer accept businesses dealing with digital currencies. The same goes for other Norwegian banks. Without a bank account we have no business and need to shut down. This event demonstrates the need for decentralized payment networks.

If you need help or have problems with the withdrawal process please contact support@justcoin.com. We want to thank all our loyal customers for their support and wish you all the best.

Thank you,

Klaus & Andreas, founders.

What do they mean by final deadline? What happens after this?
1827  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Turns Out Nobody Wants To Donate To Politicians With Bitcoin on: October 31, 2014, 01:23:09 AM

I feel accepting bitcoins was just a publicity stunt by these politicians. They really haven't got the hang of it.
Since donations are capped at $100, I can foresee politicians getting 'anonymous' donations of $100 from different addresses.
This will stir up a hornet's nest.  Grin
1828  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Things that helps Bitcoin to grow ? on: October 30, 2014, 01:08:26 AM
As far as transaction volume, dark markets are where it's at.  Ever since Silk Road died we have been tanking with regards to the price of bitcoin.

For the price to grow, however, we need consist good news, hoarders and mining operations that don't go bankrupt.  A lot of these are tied together, in that you can't have as much hoarding when prices drop or with bad news.  It just so happens we floated along pretty well in 2011-2013.

We need to do a 180 at this point, otherwise bitcoin price will continue to decline.

Silk road clones came up pretty quickly.
If you look at the transactions/day chart, they seem to be on an increasing trend.

1829  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is a millibit? on: October 30, 2014, 01:04:34 AM
We should just use the metric system and be done with it.

KBTC = 10^3BTC
mBTC = 10^-3 BTC
uBTC = 10^-6 BTC
1830  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: October 30, 2014, 01:01:59 AM
Wow, I was just going through some of the first posts in this thread. I wish I would have known about Bitcoin back in 2011. I've been a big fan of Bitcoin ever since I first found out about it. I would have been accumulating them left and right if they were that cheap!

Today's price might appear to be a steal in a few years time.  Smiley

The potential is tens of thousands of Dollars a coin in a few years if things go right; even if the probability that things go right happens is less than 1% it may profitable to invest in Bitcoin

It makes me think of venture capitalists which bet on tens or even hundreds of start-ups that each have less than 5% chance of making it but when they do they can cash in big

At least venture capitalists invest in multiple start ups and don't face ruin when a particular company closes. I have seen people go all-in on bitcoin here. They could be very rich soon, or face bankruptcy.  Grin
1831  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So ... Can Goverment stop Bitcoin ? on: October 30, 2014, 12:55:47 AM
They can make the consequences of using bitcoin severe.
For example - The Bangladesh central bank warned that bitcoin users could be jailed for 12 years under anti money laundering laws.
1832  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you USE your BTC? on: October 29, 2014, 01:30:29 AM
I'm currently not spending any of my Bitcoin. I'm trying to build my stash by investing it. The more Bitcoin I have, the more I can earn. So I am currently investing my Bitcoin in a bunch of different reliable sources. I want to keep it as diversify as possible in case anything happens to one of the companies.

Unfortunately I was late to the Bitcoin game so I don't have enough to actually be spending regularly. I hope to get there at some point though!

Be careful about where you invest your bitcoins. The number of scams and ponzis are disproportionately high in the bitcoin world.
1833  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Yes you're missing something. BTC is already great just by lasting this long. on: October 29, 2014, 01:29:22 AM
Wow, things have certainly changed on this forum in the last couple of years. A quarter of the posts in this thread would have been shredded by DnT or Stephen Gornick in 2011. There's not as much cheerleading as there once was and people seem more reserved about future potential. I'd say Bitcoin is right on schedule. It will eventually end up somewhere between curing AIDS/ending world hunger and being a complete failure.
Well I would certainly say that bitcoin will in fact not ever do anything like cure AIDS or end world hunger, this is simply not something it was designed to do. There is really no imaginable way that something can go from being a more efficient way to send money to making medical breakthroughs.

Bitcoin should make economies more efficient and third world countries would not need to rely on a shaky banking system or any kind of third party to "hold" their money so, in theory it may help world hunger but even this is a far stretch

Bitcoin might help the world in ways we cannot imagine. The internet definitely has!
People in remote parts of Africa would be able to receive small donations from people across the world. This could provide meaningful relief in a famine.
1834  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it worth it? on: October 29, 2014, 01:26:54 AM
I made a calculation,

current BTC price 330$

A faucet gives 250 btc per 15 mnt at best

So that's 24000 satoshi per day

720000 per month

8640000 per year

Thats worth 30.8534400000 USD given the current price.

So my question is?

Is it worth it?

Definitely not worth it. I just wish everybody would do this calculation.
It would put faucets out of business or encourage them to pay more.
1835  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Song on: October 29, 2014, 01:25:31 AM
Nice song. Now we have a bitcoin anthem. Smiley
Did you compose it when the price was at ATH?

1837  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN MUSEUM IN ORLANDO, FL on: October 28, 2014, 01:50:46 AM
Not enough history for it to be popular IMO, we're still little lol

I guess the museum will continuously add exhibits, as bitcoin evolves.
1838  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is the NSA stealing coins? on: October 28, 2014, 01:46:38 AM
I guess you just have to secure your bitcoins.
If they are in cold storage, I doubt if the NSA (or anybody) could steal them.
1839  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you work for Bitcoins? (not bitpay etc) on: October 28, 2014, 01:31:57 AM
Getting paid in Bitcoins for work is a good option, especially if you want people across the world to work on your project.
Sitting in the UK, you can hire somebody in a developing country to do your work and then pay him in bitcoins.
1840  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: October 28, 2014, 01:29:01 AM
A single BTC would need to hit 100,000 USD for me to become rich.
(I don't class 'rich' as anything under 2 million USD).

Unfortunately for that reason I think I missed the boat, too late to become rich from BTC.
Making 200 grand would be lovely though.

In the long term, bitcoin's price can be more than what we can dream off.
I think I will just save 1 bitcoin, to be touched only after 20 years, no matter what....
