Please post a screen capture of the said email and the links associated with it. It would be good for the community to see what actually these phishing emails look like. There are still many unsuspecting newbies here who get victimized.
1822  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: lending on poloniex and bitfinex on: April 05, 2017, 05:54:35 AM
hello, why lending rate for BTC on poloniex 3x larger then on bitfinex?
Market dynamics. Mostly dependant upon available currency supply, Bitfinex might catch up on size since they survived their hack from recent year. And introduced that strange BU token stuff (which I would not dare to touch with a ten foot pole) but seemingly this attracts deposits, so more supply floating on site resulting into lower rates.
Go for Poloniex if you are supplying lends, my advice.

For your information Bitfinex are taking their tokens off the market because it has achieved its purpose and they are starting to repay their customers who had funds stolen because of the hack. Good job on them for not scamming the community.
1823  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: hard forks questions on: April 05, 2017, 05:47:13 AM
Heres my hard fork question. What if it was BTC core that wanted to hard fork to bigger blocks and it was the other group of developers that wanted segregated witness. Would the supporters of Bitcoin Unlimited support it or will they support the other group?
1824  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Private healthcare applications w/ blockchain on: April 05, 2017, 05:17:14 AM
Data integrity is a lot cheaper if maintained by a third party who will be liable under the law if it was caught tampering with the data. A blockchain was never intended to be efficient. In your private health center blockchain who or what secures the network?

You have never heard of Chris Derose and yet you say hes a self proclaimed expert? Your ignorance is very embarrassing. Go do your research and stop making posts, spamming your signature.

But a blockchain is more inefficient.

Its a question of downtime.

If amazon or a retail website is down for a few hours, that can represent millions in lost revenue.

One advantage of data saved in a blockchain is avoiding downtime associated with data compromise.

Yes data can be backed up by 3rd party or saved on another drive, but if the initial server data is hacked or compromised, it takes time for a rollback to happen.

That rollback of data is associated with downtime and lost revenue.

There are scenarios where a blockchain with greater uptime is preferred over backend database servers which are normally shut down when they're compromised.

If a social media site can have no downtime Im sure a private health care site that stores very important data wont too if the deploy it correctly with multiple back up servers ready. It is cheaper and more efficient.

Everyone should stop listening to the people like Tim Swanson or Don Tapscott if they say the blockchain will be a part of everything. They are only trying to create a buzz. Listen to the real people who know better.
1825  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: @RogerVer lets make a deal. At least 60k, my BTU for your BTC. on: April 05, 2017, 05:07:43 AM
So what happened with this deal ? done yet...

looks like loaded was bluffing.

So does that mean Roger Ver was bluff-calling Loaded's bluff because he knows that Loaded knows that they are both bluffing? Roger is smarter than his enemies think and he could be responsible for a lot of whats going on in Bitcoin. I hope the deal gets done so we can have something to laugh about on 2018,
I think it looks like Roger called Loaded'so bluff.
It is not hard to contact Roger and I am sure if loaded did and Roger was posting here saying he has received no contact then loaded would be jumping up and down all over this thread.

Yeah thats because Roger Ver knows theres a huge chance that Loaded was bluffing. What I want to know now is if Roger would make the same call if he knew someone wasnt bluffing. If for example someone known in Bitcoin did the same bet and that hes also known to have a lot of BTC as Roger, would he still make the same call? Thats risking a lot there and I dont think we would hear anything from Roger.
Your whole post is just assumptions, how could you possibly say that Roger knew it was a bluff the whole time, thats impossible to know.
Loaded signed an address to show he had the coins so it was a long winded bluff if that was his plan from the start.

Yes thats true because after all that happened its open to debate whether Roger Ver really had the intention to make the deal or of Loaded was serious. I cant help assume that both actors were playing mind games and I assume that they were both half hearted in making their moves. If they werent, one of them would be tease the other for doing nothing.
1826  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [BCAP] THE FIRST DIGITAL LIQUID VENTURE FUND - BLOCKCHAIN CAPITAL FUND on: April 04, 2017, 07:40:12 AM
Can you give us examples of good companies in the blockchain technology sector that BCAP would hypothetically be investing in today if for instance you started operating 3 years ago? Im interested in knowing what youre looking for in terms of potential in a blockchain company and what kinds of technology youre interested in.

1828  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Cloud bet settlement issue on: April 04, 2017, 07:11:13 AM
To the guy who started this thread. Be patient. Sometimes sportsbetting websites take 3 days or more before settling your bets. I have noticed this happen on betting on futures or parlays. Before labeling something as a scam Im sure it would be better to always contact their customer support first and wait for a reply, give them 3 days and if they havent answered back only use the scam accusations forum as a last resort.

1830  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Private healthcare applications w/ blockchain on: April 04, 2017, 06:45:10 AM
No its really not. They dont need a blockchain. If you listen to the podcast of Chris Derose he explains why most of the institutions that say they need a blockchain really dont. According to him its an efficiency thing. What inefficiencies is a blockchain solving in the idea of PremiumCodeX? A centralized database is always more efficient for things like those.

Blockchain is more efficient in terms of maintaining data integrity. Miner difficulty for bitcoin is very high now. At bitcoin's inception difficulty was much lower & it was possible to mine with cheaper hardware. It is possible to reach a tipping point where data integrity is cost effective in terms of hardware requirements. At least in terms of it being an additional layer of security.

I've never heard of Chris Derose. A lot of self proclaimed experts on youtube & twitter are not very reliable.

The truth is, every security measure ever invented is inefficient. Virus scan, WIFI encryption, passwords -- they're all less efficient. It doesn't mean they aren't useful.

1831  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Opening LN channel with zero balance? on: April 04, 2017, 06:39:31 AM
The explanations have gotten way too complicated for what pawel777 was asking. Im interested in the answer too. Allow me to rephrase the question. In LN, do we need some kind of show money to open a channel? Is it possible to only open a channel now without the show money for future use if I already have the show money?
With the current lightning spec document, both parties need to put in some amount of money so that both parties have something to lose so there is an incentive for both parties to not scam the other person.

Edit: You can open a channel where only one party funds it. I read this part of the spec incorrectly. See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1848861.msg18444685#msg18444685

Thank you for the the simplified post. It makes more sense to me now. Another thing I would want to know is if I open a channel to someone I dont want to have a direct channel to, can I open a channel with another user who I know has a payment channel open to the one I dont want direct channel to, without him needing to acknowledge anything? Since theres no need for the other party to have BTC locked does he still need to approve for me to connect to him or does it happen automatically?

1833  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin PoW Upgrade Initiative on: April 03, 2017, 11:34:09 AM
Lets pretend Bitcoin really did upgrade to a new POW algorithm and left all the asics and mining farms, mining equipment and whatnot useless. Is this really what Bitcoin needs? I dont think this will have a good image to the general public. It could be viewed much worse than Ethereum's hard fork.

Something related to vegan food and lifestyle and healthy food in general would be interesting for me. Maybe even if food and ingriedients like this could be bought somwhere online for bitcoins. Anyway, sounds like good initiative and many people would be interested in something like that.

1838  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Private healthcare applications w/ blockchain on: April 02, 2017, 08:00:52 AM
This is a demand-analysis. What private healthcare applications would you like to see in the close-future? I want to hear applications that have not been made yet, but you think there is a demand on them.

I am posting my own example as... well as an example Tongue

I have this idea to help people with coeliac disease, diabetes or simply if you are vegan or just want to know what you are taking into your body at ingredient-level.

Quote
There could be an application where we would be able to efficiently check if some products' ingredients were changed from reading the productName-ingredientHash pair from the blockchain. There could be even a mobile app that notifies the patient if the hash of a product that he is using was changed = the ingredients of the product was changed.

There are arguments around here in the forum that say some institutions that think they need a blockchain really dont, like banks or like in your example the institutions of the healthcare industry. All they need is an appendable database like SQL.

Personally i haven't tried them but there is one that accept credit cards , https://cex.io/buy-bitcoins
You can try them with small amount at first before buying in bulk.

Theres also that option for some countries if youre a Bitstamp user. If you want a bigger exchange with better spreads then you should give it a try. CEX is good but the price of BTC there is always higher than the industry average. Go check Bitstamp if buying BTC with CC is available in your country.
