People should calm down and just mine.

Monero is doing very well compared to 95% of altcoins.

If you want an intense discussion, go to #monero on IRC
Trolls are increasing the pagination, this helps in getting recognition Smiley After a while, it has an adverse effect, see Blackcoin. But so far, so good Smiley As long as we remain watchful to prevent newcomers to fall in the traps of trollers - this requires a fine balance.
1842  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 07, 2014, 04:39:30 PM
cryptonote has a unique techonlogy ( I have read but do not understand and in this way I am a sheep)
Ring signature + fixed limit (plus clean code, but this part would appeal to dev, not users)

1. Ring signature is better at protecting privacy than anything at the moment
2. No fixed limit in CN note lead to higher flexibility. When you see how much a code with fixed limits (BTC) was expanded, imagine now a code without these constraints[/quote]

FIY, the CPU-bound and difficulty retarget is CryptoNight, not CryptoNote. More exactly, CryptoNight is an implementation of the wishes of the CryptoNote dev, but not strictly a part or CryptoNote itself.

I agree with name change. this is a simple change but the execution was confusing. this made it a community coin not a tft coin. can we implement a proof of stake into this coin and and inflamtion and or a 1 percent transaction fee to miners. or just running the miner per thread generating .25 coin per month. regardless of blocks found. (rambling i hope devs can gleen my meaning)
I proposed taco implementing some of CN features in MC2 and his answer was (from memory): "two different technologies, can't compare/compete".
I think I understood you: implementing PoS over monero without having to create a new coin (relaunch). Did I understand you correctly?
1843  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 07, 2014, 04:30:53 PM
Most of us did not like bitmonero and so we voted in the early days on a public IRC session. Among arguments were "more than three syllables" and "this bit part is ugly". Plus, but that's just my opinion, monero is like "people's money", whilst bitmonero is like "some new coin" (it could have been worse; imagine "monerocoin!")

Most of "us"? Who are those "us"?
Why didn't you asked forum community about renaming? You decided not to listen to people's opinion just like TFT, huh?  Wink[/quote]The one who where on MRO (BMR by this time) on the first week. It been discussed on BTT then voted on IRC, with a votebot. So, yes, we did ask the community and the community participated. Funny how these people come up like mushrooms. Jealous much?
Usual scare tactics. As old as Sun T'zu (but less sophisticated). This is called FUD, fear, uncertainty and doubt.

I works well among newcomers, much less among veterans (it is like the good cop/bad cop scheme; it is actually counter-productive against seasoned criminals)

It doesn't mean it must be ignored, though. You reply to it not for convincing the FUDder, but for convincing the newcomers who will read the FUDder's attack.

I was actually hoping that you were busy writing a reply to my topic. How many times should I ask the question so that you start answering it?
As I said earler: when you will apologize for insulting people (which as nothing to do with agreeing or not with your content), then I will reply. As long as you will be rude, I won't reply.

For all: this holds true to anyone, not just Rias. I don't reply to people resorting to insults - other may, not me.

BitMonero can’t compare with FantomCoin ..[...] BMR [...]
PLEASE people...

MONERO, not bitmonero. This name has been scrapped weeks ago.
1847  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 07, 2014, 03:39:08 PM
Hi emontmon and thanks for your reply,

0. As for the emission curve, as mentionned earlier, it is not something that the current team implemented - we have to live with that and it was not possible to change after without making people unhappy and breaking thing. I know it sounds easy to say "not our fault" but what else could be done?

1. For now, the focus is on the pool. Main issue is that MRO is so much different from other coins (for good reasons) that it is hard to get it right. And the minergate team (the bytecoin's pool with a huge 10% fee, a steal if you ask me) is not willing to help.

2. I hope our policy of putting our money where our mouth is" will continue to be recognized as an evidence of fairness, thanks to highlighting this point Smiley

3. You'll notice on my signature a tacotime' sentence: "Fuck the pump and dumps, we're here to create something with value that people can use". I hope than answer your question Smiley

4. I don't have the required technical skill to answer on this one, but I guess I can say, err... thanks Smiley

david

thank you for your reply. I did not mean to bypass you and you have been very helpful.
those are really my thoughts on how it is percieved by outsiders.

I keep saying this but you and others are very well versed. all developers passion is to be commended.
however, items deemed as non relevant or easy are often the source of distress/frustration. reading the thread this is obvious.

the emission curve was initially said to mimic btc. however it does not.
1. It is good to hear that features will be implemented. I think sooner rather than later. I would recommend discussion of the options posted and reasoning why one was selected over the other.
2. I see the generosity of others in contributing to funds. unlike other coins where developers are asking for money. here developers putting their own coins for development. this is probably why this coin is doing so well. like a ceo buying stocks in his own company.
3. is the goal for this coin to be an asset or a currency. maybe this is what cryptonote was referring to. perhaps keeping it off exchanges is best. in this way value of the coin is independent of btc or physical money(fiat). the demand for exchange so that people can trade is more in line with greed immediate return (not necessarily a bad thing), then the vision of cryptonote to be used as a currency long term.
4. changing from one minute to two minutes for confirmation time is good. 2 minute confirmation was done with thought, changing it to 1 minute was done with out thought. (atleast it was not made obvious)
1848  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 07, 2014, 03:24:43 PM
And you know what, no i dont like instamine. I prefer it 10 times over premine. Make a coin with no premine and no instamine and i will support it with my full power. Seriously.
Add to the list: "No IPO" (although I participated in the NEM IPO, a lucky shot, I guess - I would probably not participate in an IPO today, I learnt since then).

Yes, thank you for the list, it makes the best concentration of the lie in this topic.
Insulting => not going to reply. This has nothing to do with whether insult are justified or not. This is a matter of courtesy, I don't reply to people who resort to insult.
Now, if you apologize for your insult, I will gladly reply.
1852  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 07, 2014, 02:41:31 PM
So, considering the present hashrate - Noodle's testing is going really well. Grin When community will gain access to instamine tech?

Ah ah! We would like it to be Noodle, but that's not. That's probably a farm (too fast a rise to be organic growth only).
Also, what's up with the name changing? Bitmonero was okay to my opinion. (I know, should've asked earlier)
Most of us did not like bitmonero and so we voted in the early days on a public IRC session. Among arguments were "more than three syllables" and "this bit part is ugly". hi,

I really like cryptonotes input. taco, smooth and ezih have been very heplpful. But as an outsider, this is very confusing.
negatives:
1. miner that is closed source by noodle ( is noodle part of the development team). not consistent with fairness, cooperation and being open. more in line with greed. ( I dont think greed is always bad)
2. hasty launch without testing...first to market goal and associated confusion
3. direct copy of bytecoin ( no new features or implementations )
4. mega downloads not working.
5. multiple threads very confusing to new members
6. emission curve not what was originally promised

positives:
1. overall compared to other coins very fair. perhapse another coin would have been implemented that would have been more greedy. ala darkcoin (from what I have read. second hand stuff)
2. smooth, ezih and taco constant presence and patience
3. percieved fairness is demonstrated by increasing HR and community growth.
Hi

Thank you for this synthetic list, it helps much for replying. Let me give some precision:

Negative
1. miner's latest version is closed source because Noodle prefers it to be stable before releasing the source. If will be open-source eventually
2. We wanted MRO to be ready before the Bytecoin ninjamine take the lead. In a way, fast release helped fighting premine. Considering the present hashrate, that was the right strategy
3. not a direct copy, since we changed some parameters, especially related to a flatter curse, for rewarding early adopters less - which means fairer for the greater amount of people. Plus, new features are planned but I prefer to not say which one for the moment. Finally and maybe more importantly: Bytecoin was 80% premined ("ninjamined", as we call it)
4. Consider the monero starter pack. Full of precompiled binaries. Since I am the maintainer, please mention any improvement on it.
5. We apologize for this, we hope this is now getting easier. We asked the Bitcointalk moderators to move the thread, they never answered. Anyway, the more it will go, the more the other Ann will be buried.
6. Can you extrapolate on this one?

Positive
2. Well, I am there too, especially on the freenode IRC channel #monero Smiley

Keep going with such high SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) posts, I like it Smiley

Where are the binaries for the Linux wallet? The link leads to github, which only has source Sad And I can't compile sources on Manjaro - Ubuntu is Debian-based, Manjaro is not.

Thank you. I already missed day one.
Still no answer. Bad to launch a coin with "linux binaries" and not to keep the promise.
1855  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TEKcoin PoS/PoW on Cryptsy! 30 days 40% interest! on: May 07, 2014, 03:45:48 AM
Tek has been a bit neglected in my opinion.
Which is good, it leaves room for newcomers like me (although the price of one TEK is already quite expensive)
You can see changes I have made by looking at my commits on github. Coin control, stake weight monitoring, etc.
I can't compile it on Manjaro (it happens a lot to me - Linux is increasingly becoming "Ubuntu"n which is slow as hell compared to the nimble Manjaro, based on Arch). Could you give a link to precompiled binary? Usually, Binaries for Ubuntu work in Manjaro too - it is only compilation that is getting difficult.
What HBN has that Tek doesn't is a community and a crazy smart dev. Right now we are working on getting Tek into the light and more well known. It will happen over time but we need the infrastructure. Tek does not have a crazy smart dev... but I have recently been getting into the code and comparing it directly to HBN code. And fortunately, I have a decent relationship with Tranz and he has helped me with several questions I have had in the source code.
Thank for your great answer.

Thank You David for your feedback and excellent questions. Please allow me 48 hours to reply. today I have work + after work function (plenty of drinking) and tomorrow I repeat the work part again. This will also allow me time to think about your questions so that I can provide you with the best answers possible.

Thanks,

You are very welcome, tokyoghetto. I am eager to get your replies.

On a related note, I have only four months of experience in crypto (and finance) and only three in altcoins, but I believe I can help newcomers. Here is a collection of advices, I gave to CINNI;

Never again. When BC crashed I got out. When DRK crashed I got out. When AsiaCoin crashed I got out.
This is what creates bonds, BTCPrice Smiley Surviving several crisis.
War crises, family crisis or, in our case, coin crisis. In the regular financial world, those who trade up to 5 years (seems to be the max) dub themselves "survivors". True story Smiley

And then you start feeling different from the masses of overenthusiastic people. But you don't blame then, because you used to be one of them. And you know that it is part of the journey of initiation. The ignorant of today is the wise man of tomorrow.

Glad to meet you Smiley
1860  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Cinni | PoS | No premine | No IPO on: May 07, 2014, 02:03:38 AM
Meanwhile, David and I move on to other coins and continue to rake in the BTC profit.
So that means you will soon move past CINNI as well....

Nanos gigantum humeris insidentes (dwarfs standing on the shoulders of giants).

Cinni innovated. Its good idea will be reused in new coins. This is a Darwinian process. Coin innovate, get rewarded for it by making their holders rich. Then they reach a plateau after Famous Last Pump, people move to other coins. Said other coins (dwarf) take the good ideas of the previous coin (giant) and the cycle continues.

Peercoin started PoS
NovaCoin started HiPoS
MintCoin started FastPoS
BlackCoin started AltMultipool
Cinni started Limitation of Money
See a trend here?

Miners get rewarded for securing the blockchain with money. Private interest meets public interest.
Innovating coins get rewarde for improving coins with money (price raising). Again, private interest meet public interest.
In the end, coins are getting better and better. Compare I0coin with today's coins.
Darwin.

Yes, I will move past CINNI as I moved past BlackCoin and I will past other - and you should too. Remember, if the price rises, it is also because I bought some. The real losers are the one buying too late (yes, finance is fundamentally unfair because it is a zero-sum game: for you to get money during the Famous Last Pump, someone must be sacrified and hold he bag).

That being said, there is something that will survive: the person you talked with, the people you met. Three days ago, I met a mintcoiner from Austria, on holidays in Paris where I live. We had a great time, we spoke about how to fulfill the cause of MintCoin (sustainable development). Because there is a life after the dump.

Let me finish with what I said to Blackcoiners after their Famous Last Pump:

My advice: find yourself a goal. Mintcoin's goal is sustainable development - and I can tell you it is much more important now than in February when money was al that counted (even for me). Blackcoin has the opportunity to find its own goal - for a while, I believe it was possible to replace LTC and it should be something to do, since LTC is PoW and pollutes the planet.

Believe my experience from Mintcoin: the next days will be the harshest ones. Then your morale will rise again because you will find yourself a new goal. Look at the Kubler-Ross model on the five stages of grief. Blackcoin for now is somewhere between Denial and Bargaining. The next days will be Depression - that's the harsh part. Then I have a good news: the final stage of Acceptance will make you feel better. Some will move on to other things and the hardcore community will find itself a new goal.

Keep on going, Blackcoiners. Look for your goal. It awaits you.

Remember it when CINNI will experience its Famous Last Pump. Meanwhile, you have some massive money to make Smiley
