1861  Economy / Speculation / Re: Things are happening behind closed doors, very important for Bitcoin things. on: March 23, 2013, 06:14:53 AM
Vladimir, what about putting that into a piece of text, timestamping it and give us the hash?
1862  Economy / Speculation / Re: MTGOX is manipulating BTC Value. on: March 23, 2013, 05:56:37 AM
I am gonna sell my Hotbubbcoin at $1000/coin, a very much inflated price, and I have a monopoly on the exchange system of my coins, are people gonna buy? No, nobody out there would care.

Hello, how are things going on with incorporation and insurance?
1864  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Help with first round of Armory 0.88 testing (Linux-only) on: March 23, 2013, 02:25:57 AM
Thanks, do I need to download the blockchain again to test?

Not necessary.  Though, if your Bitcoin-Qt home directory (-datadir) is non-standard, it might create one in the standard place and start redownloading.  You can change the settings and restart.  It will pick up where Bitcoin-Qt last left off.

Yeah, I put the data directory in a non-standard position, but I always start Armory using the satoshi-datadir option, I guess I would be OK then?

Also do I need to delete the old installation? And if I am super paranoid and want to backup the wallet files do I just copy them somewhere else? Thanks.

You will end up with a fresh new download starting at zero percent in the default location.  You can either start it with the --satoshi-datadir option, or you can start it regularly, and change the options to point at the non-standard location, then restart.  If you do it the second way, it will create the default --satoshi-datadir and start downloading.  I guess you could combine the two:  start with --satoshi-datadir, then change the settings to make it permanent.

I'm not sure a better way to do this.  I need to make the process mostly-transparent to new users:  I don't want to walk them through a confusing process when they don't even know what my program is or what Bitcoin is.  I'd rather it "just work".  And for users that have been using Bitcoin-Qt in the default locations:  well it should "just work" by picking up where they last left off with Bitcoin-Qt.  (this means that for switching from Bitcoin-Qt to Armory, it should be actually quite painless).

Ah, thanks, anyway I would just go testing it and report the result.
1865  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: March 23, 2013, 01:07:32 AM

Guessed it or caused it? Isnt this the same guy who posted the 10000BTC Mtgox screenie?
We might have a new manipulator. With enough coins and cash you can cause a few spikes and drops that you "predicted" a few hours earlier until people take you seriously, then use that credibility to cause movements with just words...

Or get screwed by the market and lose all your money while no one cares about you any longer.

Seriously, if he got only 10000BTC and wanted to play with the market I would call him a dumbass.
1866  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: March 22, 2013, 02:03:49 PM
I bail out now.

Wow, that was fast.

And poof, it is gone.

No srsly, I don't think I am the only EU money manager that will need to do this day after day in increasing volumes, I am just the loudest Smiley I can feel the pain of the others as they cannot scrape enough to buy from anywhere (except Mt.Gox USD with 1 week transfer delay LOL)

If banks work really well then there would be no need for Bitcoin.
1867  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: March 22, 2013, 11:08:42 AM
Isn't it funny how passing 70 resembles passing 7?

OMG OMG OMG proudhon is 2 digits oriented !! SELL SELL SELL

Rest assured, he meant 40 cents. Wink

Too far away from the hourly SMA 200, should take a break before advancing again.

Where can you set a stop loss? I was going to write a small watchdog program for that but that would depend on a server running and internet connectivity.

Bitfinex.

Why hurry? Why punching an opponent that can't fight back? Rest for a while and have a drink, bears need weekends too! Undecided

You talking to me? Yes it's all fine to just personally miss the opportunity to buy (cheap/at all). Too bad. But what if I have all the syndicate's money behind me and I kind of promised to lock in at some price? It is like getting caught in a short squeeze, and is not fun.

Today there's plenty of asks so problem solved, thank you Smiley

Nah, I was talking about the relentless bulls.

Oh good, I am too fickle to fit in that category. Lucky it never fell to $42 which was my stop-loss a week+ ago...

Me too, or I would have retired already.
1872  Economy / Speculation / Re: Has some large dumping started on: March 22, 2013, 08:37:07 AM
Looking at the order book history through btccharts.com, it looks like that large buy order that was at $30 it's the money that's currently being used to buy up the price and fill in the bids at $60+.  As I said yesterday(?), the money on the bids side is getting exhausted now.  Probably won't be long before the dramatic and long term correction occurs.

Dude, please keep talking, it seems like every time you open your mouth the opposite happens!
keep it up for a couple of months and we'll see $500 in no time! Smiley
thank you thank you!

This has been the theme since BTC hit the $2 low.  He talks, we win. I love it.

I'll happily carry the burden of nagle.  This party is very probably close to being over.  Everyone should probably prepare for a depressing several years.

Wow, a paid shill found a true friend in you, fucking worth it. Besides, stop your fearmongering, the reality is that people here are not going to feel depressed even if the market crashes, there will be more than enough time to cash out before the price finally stablizes, and nobody will be unhappy if they can take a handsome profit and buy back cheap bitcoins at the same time.

1874  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: March 22, 2013, 08:01:05 AM
so I absolutely sucked at trading and being lucky, but I am now vastly in black. What does that tell us? Every sucker can get his fair share of opportunity, if you let it slipped by you can only blame yourself.

Being invested the right way in the right long-term secular trend will hide a multitude of trading errors.

Bitcoin has been the trade of the decade and very well could become the trade of the century or even of all time in the history of humanity. Remember, Bitcoin is a sterile asset so any rise in the Bitcoin price merely represents a transfer of wealth from some other assets to the holders of Bitcoin.

As the Great Credit Contraction continues capital will seek safe and liquid assets by burrowing down the liquidity pyramid.

I think Bitcoin is to money supply what democracy is to politics. Most of the supporters of bitcoin will not be anarchists, they may just want the government to stop messing up our money supply under the pretext of promoting economic growth, rather than getting rid of it completely. They have tolerated so much for so long because they had no alternative, now Bitcoin is just an ideal bargaining chip for them, it doesn't have to do all that fiats have been doing, it just has to prove it has the potential to do so, then it will be a big enough deterrence for those up there. And people love their bargaining chips, so they will invest enough to keep Bitcoin afloat, and a force to be reckoned with from time to time.
1875  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: March 22, 2013, 06:36:00 AM
Great for him.  However, he just got lucky on timing.

Good luck is when preparation meets opportunity.

I really like that quote. "Lucky" people tend to be "lucky" more than they should.

Yup, you know what, I bought bitcoins near the 2011 peak, and on the way down to the bottom, whenever afterwards I wanted to trade in relatively large amount it is almost always a loss of money, so I absolutely sucked at trading and being lucky, but I am now vastly in black. What does that tell us? Every sucker can get his fair share of opportunity, if you let it slipped by you can only blame yourself.

OMG, USD COMES BACK!! Shocked A rally to 14.4, with a volume of 150000, BUY! BUY! BUY!
1878  Economy / Speculation / Re: Where have all the mainpulators gone? on: March 22, 2013, 04:14:16 AM
I think this one is our 'benevolent' manipulator. These walls have periodically gone up, seemingly for little more than to give the price some breathing room, preventing a completely explosive and thus potentially destructive climb and immediate crash scenario. This person probably uses these moments to load up on more coins also. This way they protect their investment while hoping for much more stable, higher prices. Usually these walls are pulled after the breather is complete.

I would agree with you before we breached 2011 high, but now the price has gone from deflagration mode to detonation mode I don't know what to look for... Undecided
1879  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price down to 13.7 - How low will it go? on: March 22, 2013, 04:08:01 AM
10 has never been breached before, should offer a massive support.
