Natural Selection.
18623  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Did I just see a spy drop? on: July 21, 2011, 05:03:33 PM
So I had to run some errands today, when I saw a person at a bench outside the mall toss a fast food bag out of a car at a trash can. Nothing out of the normal. But then a woman with a Macys bag walks over, and picks up the bag. Now Im thinking "Good on you lady for tossing that into the......bag in your other hand." The whole thing she never lost track of looking right in front of her. She never turned back, just kept walking to the edge of the mall and made a turn.
I always know when something is not right with situations and I think I saw one today. Considring that 90% of the people around here work for Nortrop, Raytheon, JPL. USAF, I am really starting to wounder if I should say something. and to who. and why?

This is a typical method of selling ecstasy.  X dealers love malls because everyone is carrying bags and there are a lot of people around so robbery is less likely.  Weed or Coke buyers tend to want to see or taste the product first, so they don't normally deal like this.

You just saw a large ecstacy deal.
18624  Economy / Goods / Re: Selling prebuilt mining rigs with 1yr warranty - Lower Prices Doubled MHash/sec! on: July 21, 2011, 04:56:21 PM
Looking at the 1gh/sec offering. You offer the service for 3 months which equates about 750 dollar income. This calculation of income doesn't consider difficulty increase every 2 weeks or so. Now looking at that alone how do you expect the leaser to make anything? While your charging 1350? Unless there's more to this and that I'm missing something here.

You aren't missing anything.  For that price you could build your own machine that's capable of getting more mh/sec.  Not that I'd ever buy a mining contract, but at 1gh/sec for 3 months I couldn't see anyone paying over $500.  Maybe I'm missing something.   Roll Eyes

18629  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What is the BEST Bitcoin article? - I want to spread the word... on: July 20, 2011, 11:35:05 PM
I want to send out a bitcoin article to friends to let them know what I've been up to.  I was going to just link them to the http://www.cnbc.com/id/43823614 article that came out today, but I thought I'd better consult the community to find out what the best bitcoin article would be.  I found this CNBC article to lack a bit of bite when it comes to the 'screw the central bank' portion of bitcoin.  Anyone got any great bitcoin articles they can link me to?  I haven't found 'the one' yet.
18630  Economy / Goods / Re: new real tangible physical bitcoin coin on: July 20, 2011, 11:22:21 PM
Ok, this is not a bad idea. I can understand not wanting my website on your coin. How about this... what if there was no unique code and the url was very small on the back, OR possibly laser-etched on the coin edge. so you wouldn't even see the url if you were looking directly at the front or back of the coin?

Also, would you want the design of the obverse & reverse on the coin to be the same?

Even if the website was in invisible ink, it would still be there.  That gives the coin less of a "currency" feel and more of a website promotion feel.  Right now you're the only person (I know of) offering cool cheap bitcoin collectors coins.  Take advantage.  Even if they're brass now, you are in a position to corner the market, which after some profiting could lead to silver coins, then gold...

I say you should design a new back and sell them for double the price of the ones on your website.  Then include one of your website coins for free with every purchase of 2 or more.  You'll make more money, your website coins will get to more people, and you could just end up being the exclusive physicial bitcoin supplier once you work out all the kinks in your operation and gather more customers...

I'd definitely buy one made of pure silver without the website listed.  Just sell the brass (gold plated) ones to gather the funding needed to get a batch of silver ones made (then discontinue the brass ones and only use that for your website coins, which you will then give away free with the silver ones).  I'm excited for you.  This is a great opportunity.  I'm just an ideas guy, but would love to partner on this with you somehow if you were interested in building a team for this project.

Or just go ahead and toss me a free coin when you get rich.   Wink
18631  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll: How often do you trade BitCoins? on: July 20, 2011, 09:21:05 PM
Thanks for replying!  What's A LOT? 20 times per week? More than that?

Probably closer to 20 times per day (it was a fun way to pass the time at work after the NYSE closed).  Although now it's more like 3-4 times a week.
18632  Economy / Goods / Re: new real tangible physical bitcoin coin on: July 20, 2011, 09:15:38 PM
I think i'd like the coin better if it didn't have the website stamped onto it.

yeah I feel the same.

It actually serves a cool purpose, but I agree.  I'd buy one if it weren't for that.  Perhaps the coin creator should make a 2nd type of coin without the website branding on it and sell it for more?  That way he could lower the price on his existing coins (they'll be subsidized by the higher priced ones) or give them away for free to promote his site (1 per order of the new coins?).  A non-numbered coin would also be cheaper to have made, so there would be a much higher profit margin, especially considering he could charge a large premium.  Giving 1 of his website branded coins for free with the order of new coins would also get people like myself (and probably the 2 people I quoted) to give his website a try with their free coin.  I'd imagine that would be a great help to getting this project off the ground.
18633  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll: How often do you trade BitCoins? on: July 20, 2011, 09:03:57 PM
I was trading A LOT when the price was bouncing all over the place.  The last 2 weeks I've barely been trading.  The price movement just isn't providing the opportunities it once was.  I think the trading bots stabilized the price a little and ruined my fun.

I would be surprised if we do not hit $100 in September.

I would be happy if it hit $40 by the end of the year.

18639  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Someone keeps sending me BTC - what do? on: July 20, 2011, 03:10:43 PM
If you don't want to keep the BTC, I say you should spend it to help support the community.  Buy lots of stuff off the forum to support fellow members.  Donate some to people's sig addresses when they say something useful.  Try a few of the gambling websites.  Just spread them around, have fun doing it, and get some cool stuff.
18640  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A case AGAINST merging Namecoin and Bitcoin mining on: July 20, 2011, 02:09:49 AM
Then tell me how it is not getting bigger if the number of blocks in the bitcoin blockchain increases every 10 minutes or so?

Obviously I was referring to the belief that the Bitcoin chain will get bloated with Namecoin data.

That's because you don't understand the concept of merged mining that's being discussed.   Wink
