18901  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: In 30 days, 1/3rd of all the bitcoins there will ever be...will be mined. on: July 10, 2011, 06:11:01 PM
Where else has this ever occurred?

That's the exciting part.
18902  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Xbox 360, Wii, PS3, Games on: July 09, 2011, 06:19:34 PM
I've got an xbox 360 I'm WTS if anyone wants to PM me with an offer.  1 wireless controller and no games.
18903  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hypothetical Bitcoin clone except backed by gold on: July 09, 2011, 06:16:39 PM
Sure, lets make it happen.  We'll store the gold at my house and I won't charge you anything.   Cool
18904  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Bitcoins dropped to $9.50, would you sell everything? on: July 09, 2011, 06:12:22 PM
Why would you sell because the price dropped?  That is the way poor people think.

When the price drops, I trade stuff for BTC and use the $ in my account to buy more.  When the price rises, I buy stuff with BTC and sell the coins in my account.  That is how you get more $ & BTC.  I thought this was common sense...

Sure it is.... particularly when measured in jail time per BTC.   Cheesy

Good one.
18906  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: My 5830 x 2 rig is only pulling about 260 OCed Help!! on: July 09, 2011, 06:04:57 PM
Sounds to me like only 1 of your GPUs is running... Are you using DEVICE=0 & DEVICE=1 in separate instances of your miner?
18907  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: MSI Afterburner problem with 2 Crossfired 6870s on: July 09, 2011, 06:03:22 PM
Why are you using Crossfire? It slows down mining. If you are using it for gaming, lowering memory speed doesn't help that either. o.o

My Afterburner freezes too when I do this, I have a 6990 + 6870.

I'm using Crossfire because the computer does more than mine for bitcoins...  I want to lower memory speed to reduce heat and save energy, nothing to do with hashing performance.
18908  Bitcoin / Mining support / MSI Afterburner problem with 2 Crossfired 6870s on: July 09, 2011, 04:22:40 AM
EnableUnofficialOverclocking   = 1
UnofficialOverclockingEULA   = I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it
UnofficialOverclockingMode   = 2
AccessibilityCheckingPeriod   = 0

When I enter this code it freezes upon opening every time.  I'm trying to lower the memory speed.  I also tried a 1 in place of the EULA sentence.  Any ideas?  I'm assuming the reason it isn't working is because of crossfire.  Has anyone with a crossfired rig gotten afterburner to open in this mode?
18909  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: There will be lots of cheap GPUs for sale eventually on: July 08, 2011, 05:56:44 PM
I went out and bought a whole new rig to mine BTC.  It will probably take me a year or more to pay it off with mining.  However, I was going to buy a new machine anyway and I have a job, so whether or not it is a good investment in your eyes means nothing to me.

Admittedly, I wouldn't have bought 2 outrageous video cards if it weren't for mining (I would have just used the onboard GPU as I'm a sound guy, not a graphics guy).  But still, I am doing it to support the project and because I wanted a new machine.  Not everyone is mining for profitability.  Hell, I don't even sell my coins that I mine...  You greedy profit hungry buy every GPU available to make a profit miners are going to get squeezed by hoarders like me who will mine at any price or difficulty with the expectation of higher BTC prices several years from now.  The funny part is, the cheap GPUs that will eventually be for sale, will come from people like you.  Not the people like me who are buying overpriced GPUs that won't return a profit.   Grin  We have jobs and will outlast you.

How much do they cost for the regular shmucks?
18911  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / [POLL] What do you do with your bitcoins? on: July 08, 2011, 02:33:08 AM
Just curious what people are doing with their bitcoins. I figure the options have the standard bitcoin trader types pretty much covered.
18912  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Volatility! OH BABY HOW I FUCKING MISSED YOU! on: July 08, 2011, 02:25:24 AM
Volume is up because of the free trades... I've been buying and selling like crazy lately. I assume others are raping this volatility as well. I think it's actually a good thing and will help stabilize the price.
18913  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ALERT: You have 5 days mtgox on: July 07, 2011, 03:17:13 AM
It's almost 5 days... if they don't surrender, shall you taunt them a second time?

I think they are going to surrender.

18914  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bye Bitcoin! on: July 06, 2011, 06:11:06 PM
Oh and I think it's also important to recognize that $11 on Friday is highly, highly possible if not probable. The trend has been for weekends to be AWESOME buying opportunities. But the long term trend (and I don't mean the 3 week trend - people here have no sense of time) is still up. Play the channels while you can as they can be profitable too.

I've also noticed the weekend opportunities and have taken to selling into the weekend and buying on Sunday.  I think I'm just doing my duty to stabilize the price.  It's worked well so far, to the tune of about a 20% increase in BTC per week for me.  I'm sure it won't last forever though...
18915  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Shout Out To AnonX For The 37.5 BTC Fo' FREE on: July 05, 2011, 07:55:58 PM
Losing 37.5 BTC in a paypal scam is an expensive lesson to learn.

Losing your freedom for willfully accepting stolen property by posting your BTC payment address on this thread is priceless.

+2 for the troll.
18916  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Miners quitting en masse -- so it begins. on: July 01, 2011, 03:41:39 AM
Bitcoin miners massively overestimate their influence on the ATI GPU market.  At most, it's 1% of ATI's sales.  GPUs are mainly used for displaying graphics, playing games, and doing scientific computations.  Bitcoin is a mere rounding error in the overall scheme of things.  Even if every miner quit tomorrow we wouldn't see cards being sold off for half price.

That's a ridiculous statement.  Newegg and Amazon didn't have any issues keeping 5830s in stock for quite some time before the bitcoin article came out on Yahoo at the beginning of this month.  If mining stopped tomorrow, there would be a whole lot of GPUs on ebay...
18917  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoin silver 1oz custom coin... gauging demand on: July 01, 2011, 03:35:37 AM
I'd buy one for $10 above spot, in BTC of course.
18918  Economy / Services / Re: [WTB] Adwords Coupon on: June 30, 2011, 11:09:40 PM
I have a $75 one at home... PM me if that is good enough and I'll shoot it to you for 0.4 BTC.

How can I get my products into your plugin?
18920  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Now the time to buy more hardware? on: June 30, 2011, 07:48:03 PM
Yeah, uh... you don't seem to understand how this whole process works.

1. Difficulty goes down or price goes up
2. Everyone thinks mining while make them rich
3. Difficulty goes up
4. People start panic selling their cards
5. Repeat

As soon as difficulty starts heading down, people will want to get in again.

You don't seem to understand how this whole process works...

1. Difficulty goes up or down based on the hashing rate of the network
2. People are greedy
3. Difficulty goes up
4. People are still greedy
5. Repeat

Until the cycle is broken and you see hashing rates decreasing, the GPU bloodbath will not begin.  Signs of this happening will start with major retailers having popular GPUs in stock and then hashing rates decreasing.  That is a long way off.  You claim people are panic selling their cards... I don't see that. I see people trying to cash in on their cards while they can still sell them for more than they paid due to the rush of buyers. Which further illustrates my point. When people are offering 5830s for below $75, then you can say people are panic selling... NOT HAPPENING YET. Sorry you are wrong.
