18981  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Next few months are CRITICAL for Crypto Currencies on: December 19, 2013, 10:23:22 AM
I keep thinking that this is a good moment to keep buying and keep accumulating, if u have a part of your roll that u can afford to loose.
I got in with 10k€ at 670 now i deposit another 10k and will buy around 400$ and if keep going down will keep buying ... until i reach my personal limit, i mean the amount that i decided to invest maximun in Bitcoin and that i am willing to risk..
And this should be the way of thinking, i mean there are chances to hit the jackpot here so in my opinion it's whort try and keep buying now that the price goes donw.
Being aware that it can keep going down and there is a chance to loose all the money

Not really, it's not going to hit 0$ in few hours. If you observe the market and it hits below 50% of your initial investment it's time to bail out. If it goes up you can always buy back and reclaim some of it. The only way you could lose all is by being careless... or hacked  Wink

U dident get my point .. what i was trying to say is that there is a possibility to lose a huge part of your money with Bitcoin, but on the other hand there is a decent opportunity to hit the jackpot and have like a 30-40x from what u invest now .. so i guess that the opportunity it's really good.

True, I'm also very positive about BTC. It's really easy to join the fun and leave with a small profit. It jumps +\- $100 or more daily so even if you put in 1k you can earn about 20% in just few hours.

Now is a great time to buy in. Just hold it and wait for the price to regain, then sell when you're happy with the profit. Buy now at $600-ish, the sell at $1000 or more. Easy profit.
18982  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it possible to buy bc with paypal? on: December 19, 2013, 10:11:28 AM
I hope you didn't pay $1000 Torus... thats quite the loss
PayPal refunded me the whole sum.
It looks like he did not even reply to make a case.
I have no idea why he wanted to scam me using PayPal in the first place.

Well, he may have been using a stolen account, or he could've created a new account just to scam. As soon as he gets the money he'll just either send it to a different account, buy something with the money, or withdraw tit to a bank account, so he's still probably up whatever you sent him, so it's a very easy way to scam money.
18983  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Alt-Coins on: December 19, 2013, 10:06:39 AM
I like the humor put into doge coin but in all reality if it becomes that big of a success it would definitely discredit cryptos as a whole. It's a great thing to play with, I've even mined some but meh it shouldn't be anything more than a passing craze which will end up a a pumpndump coin like so many others.

The humour will soon wear off when people get bored of the same old jokes and realise they can't really buy anything with it.

18985  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coindesk - China might have just killed BTC there. on: December 19, 2013, 09:57:30 AM
It's incredible how a rumour or good/bad news can affect the price of currencies (and also stocks & shares etc). It's really quite alarming too, especially when the information can turn out to be false or inaccurate.

Actually, it's not incredible at all, it's perfectly reasonable. Most people don't understand Bitcoin. They buy some because it has been going up in price, but they're still extremely jittery about it. Markets are fickle by nature, but in the case of Bitcoin that's twice so, and in the case of Bitcoin in a new market (China, India) where people truly don't understand it, it's thrice so.

The human psychology of going with the flow and following the masses is the problem here. Unfortunately it's impossible to persuade them to calm down and take profit. To understand it just watch the black friday mob. If they just stood in line and entered one by one there would be no injuries and they'd get in faster, instead they try to go all at once blocking the doors and fighting the staff.

That's what I find incredible about it. The naivety and stupidity of people continually blows my mind. If it wasn't for idiots panic selling BTC wouldn't be where it's at right now.
18986  Economy / Economics / Re: What is wrong with BTC today? on: December 19, 2013, 09:51:40 AM

18987  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to know if your a true believer - on: December 19, 2013, 09:50:38 AM
I still think the true sign of a believer is when you bring it up in every day conversations. Bitcoin becoming more mainstream is the ultimate goal. Obviously making a ton of profit from it is great, but it's still secondary to it gaining mainstream respect.

I do bring it up but most people look confused. The most common question I get is "who's in charge of bitcoin?", and I talk about "the community" and "open source". Obviously a very new concept to most people, who haven't got a clue what open source is and they seem very dubious about a "currency" without anyone being in control of it.

Just tell them on the contrary. Ask them if they prefer a currency that can be easily manipulated and devalued at the whim of those banks and governments that control it?
18988  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Drone Air strike kills 15 civilians (on their way to a wedding) in Yemen on: December 19, 2013, 09:42:58 AM
I don't know whether you guys know this or not but the US government has said that any male of fighting age, i.e. mid to late teens or older, in the FATA area of Pakistan is considered an enemy combatant and is a legitimate target. So it doesn't matter if the person is innocent or guilty as long as he falls under that description and is considered suspicious for whatever reason he can be hit by a drone.

Oh come on! This is ridiculous. I don't think any one has ever said something like that. Do you have any proof for your claims?

They did say something like this: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/29/drone-attacks-innocent-civilians_n_1554380.html

"It in effect counts all military-age males in a strike zone as combatants, according to several administration officials, unless there is explicit intelligence posthumously proving them innocent," the Times reports. "Counterterrorism officials insist this approach is one of simple logic: people in an area of known terrorist activity, or found with a top Qaeda operative, are probably up to no good."
18989  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price at end of 2014? on: December 19, 2013, 09:36:41 AM
I think it's either going to be over $5k or nothing.

What would cause the value to drop to nothing in the next 12 months?

More governments scaring folk.. Like India is growing now but its government already hate the idea.

Even if every government in the world 'banned' it, the price still wouldn't drop to zero. People would still use it as a payment system / means of exchange, therefore it would still be worth something.
18990  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: if you want btc to succeed start dumping your iDevices/Apple on: December 19, 2013, 09:28:57 AM
What was wrong with it exactly? I've only seen videos of the OS but it looks ok to me. So are you saying Android is the way to go?

Right now I would say Android. The other option is to wait for Ubuntu Phone OS http://www.ubuntu.com/phone. Since Ubuntu Phone OS contains third party GPL V3 code it will be impossible to lockdown and censor applications like Apple's IOS or Microsoft's Windows phone. As to what is wrong with Microsoft phone OS, it basically has the same problem as Windows 8 RT. OS lockdown and application censorship enforced by DRM.

Ah, this is interesting. I'm a user and big fan of ubuntu. When is this scheduled for release?

Are Ubuntu releasing an actual phone handset or just the operating system for android phones? The OS looks pretty good.

I'd like to confirm that I have received a payment. OP is legit!

How much did you get? And was it in crypto or PP?

I am trying to figure this out as well. It is the first time I have seen something like this on a forum. Hmm seems like bitcointalk gets excessive spam :/

Till I can post in the other sections?

18994  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Dogecoins on: December 18, 2013, 05:52:47 PM
Just wondering but what is the current exchange rate for dogecoins to bitcoins? Obviously bitcoins are worth far more and easier to sell so I just wanted to know how many bitcoins I'd get for say...1000 dogecoins.

Also if possible, can you link me to a webpage to exchange my dogecoins. Thanks  Smiley

I think the only place you can exchange Dog for BTC is: https://coinedup.com/OrderBook?market=DOGE&base=BTC

I also don't understand the poll.

I'm a first time user of Bitcoin and I'm so excited! After reading up on it the past few days, I actually want to attend the North American Bitcoin Conference this January. Any tips on how to be successful while using Bitcoin?! Thanks everyone Smiley xx Kiss

Probably buy some now whilst they're cheap, and don't panic sell, and remember to only invest what you can afford to lose.

Ha, this probably should be in off-topic, or maybe services.

Is a new dish really just 20£? Now suddenly my interest for Dreambox increased.
Will this package work if you're outside UK?

Yeah, you can get 'em off ebay for around that. Dunno how good they'll be though. Cant image 'em being top quality for twenty quid.

I try PM'ing someone and I get a message that my IP needs to wait 360 seconds before posting yet I didn't send a single PM message today, let alone in the last month.

Nice life.

Log-ins and posted / attempted posted messages count too.

Send me all your bitcoins, I'm reliable!  Grin

By the way, since it is impossible to enforce I just picked neutral.

It's not impossible to enforce, but to enforce fully it is, but that doesn't mean we should let it happen or remain neutral. It's impossible to enforce fully the sale of child porn and weapons but I don't think that means we should take a neutral stance on it.

As you can see, the threat that anyone caught selling CP will be punished/ostracized has resulted in CP being sold in secret.  The only way to reveal these secret trades is to put a stop to privacy.  Thoughts?

I think people who buy/sell accounts should be ostracised. If somebody PMd me to try flog me CP, I'd report it, and I think we should treat the buying and sale of accounts in the same way. Obviously we can never stop the sale of accounts fully, but at least we can police it as a community and not tolerate it in an attempt to minimise their sale. It'd be a hell of a lot harder to buy and sell accounts if people were prohibited and wern't allowed to do so publicly, and if they did privately it'd be a reportable offence which could lead to a banning or being banned from PMing or whatnot.
