1901  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Do you think mining will be profitable again ? on: June 25, 2015, 08:41:33 PM
just buying BTC would be the best kind of invest compared with ANY mining device you could have on hand the next days

Yes, I agree...  If you are paying more than $0.05 cents per kWH, it is best to buy right now instead of mining.
I would generally agree with this statement. if you're looking for a profit you'd be better off buying rather than mining unless you're sure that you're getting efficient miners and cheap enough electricity to warrant it.

Also, buying LTC/BTC low and selling LTC/BTC high is doing well right now.  LTC block halving is almost upon us.  It will occur the end of August.  Hence, the volatility in LTC right now.  This volatility is carrying over into the BTC/USD market as well.  Not as much, but still some volatility and not the boring sideways.

LTC is the place to be right now in terms of trading crypto.  My honest opinion.

I've turned my 36 BTC into 47 BTC at the moment trading in LTC/BTC since the price was .00822 BTC per LTC.
1902  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitmain Antminer S6 and S7 Speculation on: June 25, 2015, 08:18:47 PM
There will be no S6 or S7.  Bitmain just declared BK on a chinese forum.

Bankruptcy? Can you please link that thread?
Yeah I am not sure what BK is but I don't see how it could be Bankruptcy weren't they making bank? Like Hashnest is tons of profit and they hash at least like 25% of the network.

Don't believe gallery2000's hype.

I personally know of efforts by Bitmain to sell the new equipment coming out at a pretty reasonable price but once it earns your payment you give it back to them (you retain bonuses it earns) this may be the new model they want to start and possibly still selling large bulk to farms.

Group buys may begin to be the norm for home miners.
1903  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF100-the first 28nm Dual-Mode Miner gets into mass production on: June 25, 2015, 08:11:34 PM
After reading comments and thinking further, it makes more sense for them to price the rig from $750 to $850 in the beginning.  Then, if they get in a price war, they have given themselves room to come down on price in a price war at $600 to $700.  Just my thoughts.

The SF100 does not have PSU.  This is added expense on the buyer for PSU's and PCI-e cords.  Surly, they are taking this into account when coming to a price.

Yes, it's more efficient than the S4+ and S5.  They can take this into account when pricing as well.  The fact that less money is spent on power compared to those rigs.  That could make them go to the $800 to $900 range at first release.  It's still hard to say.

There will be a rise in difficulty soon as well.  Starting out with the price at $800 to $900 gives them room to lower the price as the difficulty increases and the price of BTC remains the same.
1904  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF100-the first 28nm Dual-Mode Miner gets into mass production on: June 24, 2015, 08:38:25 PM
Just heard back from SFards. Doesn't look like they are doing any demo or evaluation units at this time, unfortunately. They are doing MOQ 100 for the initial sales run due to limited quantity, and have not yet established shipping date or price.

Maybe this has already been addressed...  I have yet to get as far as your post at the moment, Xian01.

I expect these rigs to be no less than $500.00 USD each [including shipping].  That would be $50,000 minimum someone would have to invest on rigs they are not certain will achieve what is advertised.  Then they would have to possibly purchase PSU's and PCI-e cords if they do not have them already.  I would be pissed off if I'm told a wattage at a certain hash rate, only to find out the hash rate and power per watts was off by 20% to the negative for us (not as efficient and not as fast as advertised).

I want to believe in SFards and have confidence in them.  The best way to begin "trust" is with demo units to hero or legendary members in my opinion.  I have no experience with their warranty and customer support.  The list goes on...

They are asking buyers to have a lot of faith in them.  Especially, buyers who have no experience with them.  I'm not saying these things to be negative about SFards by no means!!!!!!  I'm simply trying to help SFards understand our point of view.
1905  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF100-the first 28nm Dual-Mode Miner gets into mass production on: June 24, 2015, 05:25:10 AM
But I have no need to review one others can do good reviews.

OgNasty doe review and gb. Simples.

Dogie do no two review.

no knock on OgNasty or dogie  , but I would like to see sfards words not a newbie's

And like I said I don't need to review this, I offered to review it. In fact I would offer to review it and mail it back to sfards rep here in the USA.

Which means zero financial gain on my part and I would lose the postage mailing it back to  sfards rep in the usa.

That makes me about as neutral as you will get in the world of BTC-LTC.

And I made this offer months ago.  Go back and find the post.  And I was attacked and insulted back then by a newbie.  Which prompted me to withdraw the offer.

I find it interesting that as soon as I mention reviewing this gear newbies turn up to attack me.

Why?

Philip,

It's quite obvious it's not a "newbie."  The odds of a "newbie" knowing to look for this forum and even finding this forum is not very good.  A "newbie" is too new to "know" you and your contribution to bitcointalk.org.  You've helped me and others many times.  You know your shizit!!!  I'll give you that...

Don't worry about the troll.  I personally believe it is someone who is not a newbie who only seeks to frustrate you and "try" to discredit you.  Those, like myself, who have been around a little longer than this so called "newbie" know better.  So, don't worry about what the "newbie" says, Philip.  Those of us who have been around a little while know it's not a newbie.

As far as I'm concerned this so called "newbie" is a jealous prick!

Don't let this so called "newbie" manipulate you into withdrawing a damn thing.  Happy mining, Sir, and keep up the great work.  You're a damn good contributor to this forum.
1906  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF100-the first 28nm Dual-Mode Miner gets into mass production on: June 24, 2015, 12:10:55 AM
Well I am waiting on an email reply.

None in the last 10 hours.

I would really want to fully test this unit before I commit to a group purchase.

I would hate to see it overpriced and over specced.

The info says it earns 8-9 usd a day mining both coins at current prices.

and it burns close to 950 watts

that is 24 kwatts a day.

if your power is  5 cents  you spend  1.20 usd to run it. that is 9-1.20 = 7.80 usd profit
if your power is 10 cents  you spend 2.40 usd to run it. that is 9-2.40 = 6.60 usd profit
if your power is 15 cents you spend 3.60 usd to run it.  that is 9-3.60 = 5.40 usd profit
if your power is 20 cents you spend 4.80 usd to run it.  that is 9-4.80 = 4.20 usd profit

So if you have 10 cent power  you need  150 days to earn 990 usd

Based on the math above  over 1000 usd is a so so price.
I really do not feel like forking over 1k for this  gear, in my case  a 150 to 180  day break even number.

If you are in Europe and pay 25 cents for power this is very marginal for you.

Yes, I came up with the same math.  That's why I want to see the pricing.  Thanks for sharing Philipma...

They can either price these at a level to allow those who pay as much as 10 cents to ROI in no more than 5 months and sell a lot of them in group buys.  Or have the ROI for 5 months or less aiming at those with less than 5 cents per kWH.  This will be interesting to see how they price them.  It being 28nm chips, they should not be as much as a 16nm or 14nm.
1907  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF100-the first 28nm Dual-Mode Miner gets into mass production on: June 23, 2015, 10:34:12 PM
Hey, isn't this about the same as an SP20?  (the BTC only side).  Should I be disappointed now with the 1.7TH/s performance like I am with my SP20?  Or pay a whole bunch of money and then be disappointed?      Just asking.

SFARDS
Bitcoin single mining mode:
Hashing power 1700 GHS, power consumption 770W

Spondoolies SP20
1.7 TH/s ± 10%

The SP20, if it could do 1.7 TH/s [Not all can] would use almost twice the wattage as the SF100.  That's if you are just looking at the wattage on the BTC side of the SF100.
1908  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF100-the first 28nm Dual-Mode Miner gets into mass production on: June 23, 2015, 09:05:42 PM
I would love to run a group buy for these units but would only do so with Sfards' blessing.

If you will start a list as soon as pricing comes out, I would appreciate it.  I want to get in on it depending on price.  Also, are you based in the US?

I am in the US.

Okay, thanks.

Not saying how many I will buy yet until we see price.

This would be the very best! OgNasty definitely has the skill and reputation to run a group buy, Sfards needs to give their blessing ASAP!

I would also be interested in setting up a U.S. based Group Buy.  If someone from sfards would like to make a comment on this I can go ahead and start arranging one.

I want in on it depending on price!

I shut down all inefficient miners. Getting to where it's not worth the effort to mine. At least for those of us who have to pay for electricity.

I'm only mining with 35 TH/s instead of the full 60 TH/s until I can turn off the air conditioner.  The main breaker will trip when the AC comes on if I have too many other appliances going at the same time and more than 35 TH/s going.  If BTC price would go up and stay up a while, I would consider adding another 300 AMPS to the house.
1912  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [9000 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: June 21, 2015, 01:49:01 AM
With the present network hash rate of 364,376,749 GH/s (364.377 PH/s) and our present hash rate of 8.861 PH/s, we are approximately 2.43% of the total network hash rate.  There are 144 blocks to be mined each day.  At 2.43% of the network hash rate, that would be approximately 3.4992 Blocks each day found if both our hash rate and network hash rate remain at a 2.43% differential.

This Lonnnnnnnnng Block hurts but it's part of "variance."  Hopefully, we have several days soon with an average of 5 or 6 blocks each day to make up for the unfortunate luck we've had that will get us back to 100% or higher for the month.
1913  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [9000 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: June 18, 2015, 11:26:31 PM
Wow, low hashrate and many hours between blocks.  I have just a 50 ths mine, but have had to cut it back to about 40  due to the heat in my area.  But, I've definitely seen a drop in the payouts.  I may have to switch pools if the whole week ends up this way...

good luck with that.  Not like there are other pools with better luck.  Also, as soon as you switch the blocks are liable to come rolling in.

Yep, 3 blocks in the last 5hrs

Keep them coming!!

NICE NICE

Really Nice

I hope you never left us, Cray...

We have lost some serious power over the last couple of weeks.  Any legitimate ideas of what's going on?

It seems quite odd to me when I look at the hash rate on Slush's Pool and BTCGuild, the hash rate has gone down considerably.  However, if you look at the overall network hash rate, it has gone up considerably.  Any thoughts?

Home miners continuing to leave while giant farms (especially in China) continue to come online.  Now that it's getting hot in the northern hemisphere (which is where most home miners are located), it's becoming even more of a loss to keep miners running due to the extra cooling needed if you have them in your home.  They also perform worse at higher ambient temperatures, so home miners are literally just losing some of their hashrate in the warmer weather.

EDIT:  Also the fact that there's not a single pool outside of China that even has 5% of the network anymore makes it a self-fulfilling prophecy that the pools continue to shrink because people can't stand variance.

However, I will say this though:  One miner who had 2.5 PH/s all by their lonesome left, one miner with 1.0 PH/s all by their lonesome has left and another miner with 1.5 PH/s all by their lonesome has left.  One could tell this very easily if they were paying attention to the "Hash Rate Distribution Chart" under Pool Statistics at the bottom of the page.
1919  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can Bitcoin surpass Gold ? Could it be used as (Store of Value) instead of Gold? on: June 11, 2015, 03:26:31 PM
I have a fair bit of gold stacked, actually I converted all my BTC in to the yellow shiny stuff.

All of it huh? You don't even want to hedge a bit with BTC? Seems pretty risky.

My sentiments exactly!!!

I'm sitting at 40% BTC; 35% GOLD; 10% SILVER; 15% STOCKS
1920  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can Bitcoin surpass Gold ? Could it be used as (Store of Value) instead of Gold? on: June 11, 2015, 01:39:56 PM
How many people here know folks who have a position in gold?

Of all the people I know, it is precisely one and I have never known anyone else who's dabbled with it in the past.

I'd say Bitcoin could have far more potential and penetration than gold if it served a similar role.

You don't have to dick around with paper gold, buying an alleged share of a bar in a vault in a far off land or taking possession of a physical lump that may be fake and can only be offloaded in a handful of places.

All you gotta do with Bitcoin is buy the shit and it's forever yours within a few minutes. No question marks, no third party flakiness.

That's worth something in my book.

Well said, Sir!
