19181  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much bitcoin was cheated off you before? BTC Scammability Index on: December 16, 2013, 11:05:12 AM
While there been deals I regretted (spending BTC on random crap before it rose in value), in my case it's.. never!

Haha what crap did you buy? This is one of my main fears of spending BTC right now. I've already made nearly 1000% profit on my BTC, so I'd still getting a ridiculously good deal for my coins, but I don't want to order a pizza and a few months later have ended up essentially paying a stupid amount for it.
19182  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Alt-Coins on: December 16, 2013, 11:02:26 AM
It is hard to say that Altcoins will be a waste of time.  I find that many of the have unique features that make them unique and interesting.

The opposite is also true; some of them have no unique features and nothing behind them in terms or development or merchant adoption. Most are just clones and get rich quick schemes. Some will survive; some wont; some will become useful and of worth; others wont. It'll be interesting to see what other alt coins merchants start accepting.
19183  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If confirmation takes 10 minutes, how will I buy coffee at Starbucks? on: December 16, 2013, 10:58:30 AM
For most, that is damn near impossible... I don't know of any independent coffee shops near me that take BTC. In fact, i don't know of any brick and mortar stores near me that do. To date, i have only been able to use BTC online.

It's early days yet. Plus, you'll only be aware of them if you go in. Some stores that accept them don't even state they do or explicitly advertise the fact. Let's see how many stores start accepting them in 2014 - I think you'll be surprised. It'll also be much easier to get smaller independent entrepreneurial shops to experiment with accepting them as opposed to big corporations. I'll probably buy a coffee with BTC the first place I see that accepts them just to try it out and encourage it's use.
19184  Other / Off-topic / Re: Paypal supporting bitcoin? on: December 16, 2013, 10:54:30 AM
if my income depended on ebay/paypal, i guess i'd have no choice.. but i would avoid them at all costs otherwise.

as much as i hate Paypal and Ebay this would make my life a lot easier, still a part of me cries NO!! Cry

They will eventually as long as Bitcoin keeps growing. You only have to look at the demand and prices coins on ebay go for to realise there's massive amounts of money to be made from this.

btw, you have 70ish more posts to go.. gogogo hustle!

Nope, got 150 more to do at least. I started on 84 posts. I'm hustling as hard as I can haha.

I have very good expirience with BTC, but than again, i have good IT knowlage and have expirience in all sorts of online payment systems.

What you lack apparently is spelling.

Or indeed the ability to fit your sig in properly.

Haha, the signature showing up depends on your monitor size.It shows up fully for some and not for others.
19186  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin won't take over the world. on: December 16, 2013, 10:50:42 AM
You can also pay with physical Bitcoins.

With physical Bitcoins you have to trust the manufacturer. I would trust government much more than manufacturer (one person)

Not entirely. With coins, sure, but with Paper Wallets you could just scan the buyers paper wallet and take the funds on your phone or computer.
19187  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin support a country? on: December 16, 2013, 10:48:09 AM
yeah right . bitcoins could not support a small neighborhood let alone a country . Very few people in general have the patience to even try and buy one  . No one . It is a novelty and serious shopping will never be made with it . It is the hardest most time consuming bunch of BS I ever encountered just trying to obtain a legal product . Opening many accounts and giving information to them that most of the people would never do and waiting days or more to get verified and waiting who knows how long after that before you can even buy any coins and all the other irritating crap .
the average person is going to use their credit card or cash both readily available in seconds not a month .

How long does it take to get verified for a credit card? It takes just as long to sign up for one of them, if not longer. Don't use crappy exchanges if you don't like all the faff. You can buy coins from these forum easily and without any ID. And just because you can't seem to get a hold of coins easily doesn’t mean the rest of us can't. I got my first coins pretty easily off ebay. Paid for them with Paypal and had them within 10-30 minutes. Bitcoin isn't a novelty, and serious shopping can already be done with it, and this will likely grow steadily during 2014.
19188  Other / Off-topic / Re: Guys, it's almost Christmas! on: December 16, 2013, 10:42:34 AM
The new coins. I am sure there will be a ChristmasCoin Grin, since there new coins are launched every day each with a more absurd name and purpose Cheesy.

Uggh, that would seriously compound how much a of joke these new coins are becoming. There's already a Christmascoin and a Sexcoin and a Dogecoin, and it's called Bitcoin!  Cool
19189  Other / Off-topic / Re: My next door neighbour continually smokes weed every 2-3 hours in his garden... on: December 16, 2013, 10:40:41 AM
Ok.. imo OP just likes to suffer or is not actually suffering or is trolling.
I see no other reason for posting at bitcoin forum about problems with the neighbours instead of actually doing something.

I wouldn't call it suffering, but a minor annoyance I shouldn’t have to deal with in the comfort and privacy of my own home. He can do whatever he wants in the comfort and privacy of his own home as long as it doesn’t negatively affect me. It is negatively affecting me and he's often neglecting or not looking after his child in the process.

And no, I'm not trolling. This is the off-topic forum of a Bitcoin forum. Anything goes in here. I was just venting and asking for advice on how to best deal with the situation.
19190  Economy / Services / Re: [WTS] Rent my signature.Looking for options and some renters on: December 16, 2013, 10:35:47 AM
Any more offers from people looking to rent signature space? As I've still got 2 slots to fill up.I need them filled asap so I can have a christmas holiday without worrying about filling up signature spaces. Smiley

Ok added in BitcoinSports.eu now.I hope he honours the payment of 0.01BTC for adding it now since I have well over 100 posts for this month (total post count)

How much did you get for the Satoshi Aces one, if you don't mind me asking?

I think it's a negotiable price, you have to actually contract the owner and come to a consensus on the price; from what I've heard.
To solve this mystery for you guys,I'll just tell you.I was paid 0.02BTC.I thought that it'd be higher but I'm not complaining about it as I'm selling off multiple lines to make up for this. Smiley

Ha, thanks. That's too little for me, but I guess whatever somebody is happy with is fair as it's free money at the end of the day. I'd suggest you sign up for Stunna's PrimeDice signature and try make the minimum 50 posts in a month for 0.03BTC. The next offer starts tomorrow.
19191  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Drone Air strike kills 15 civilians (on their way to a wedding) in Yemen on: December 16, 2013, 10:32:25 AM
shit happens

this isnt accidentally bumping the salt with your elbow at the dinner table. you dont just accidentally take control of a drone and accidentally fly it 100 miles and accidentally pressed the fire button to accidentally shoot a missile and then say "oops, sorry about that but shit happens".

I think that's unfortunately exactly what the US government does and says.
19192  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: if you want btc to succeed start dumping your iDevices/Apple on: December 16, 2013, 10:30:54 AM
I want to get rid of my iphone. What do people suggest as a replacement? I Was a bug Nokia fan back in the day, but haven't had one for years.

Try a Lumia if you're after a Nokia.

Do they have roughly the same features as the iPhones? I do like the look of them:

Does anybody have any experience of Lumias, and how do they compare to the iphone?
19193  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin won't take over the world. on: December 16, 2013, 10:24:21 AM
I worry a bit that the incredibly strong association between "taking down the financial institutions" and Bitcoin serves as a barrier to adoption. Bitcoin serves people who have an agenda against banks, but it also serves others too who may be driven away by such sentiment.

I believe very few really believe Bitcoin can take down the financial institutions.
I think it is even not possible, you need physical payment system when electricity is down

Bitcoin can be used in any way somebody sees fit. Sure it could theoretically take down the banks and/or take power away from them, or it can work alongside them. I'll bet it will work alongside them for many years, but the benefits of Bitcoin will hopefully slowly cripple the corrupt banking institutions and prove to the mainstream which is better. Hopefully Bitcoin wont become corrupted or manipulated and abused too, but only the future will tell us on that front.

You can also pay with physical Bitcoins. If electricity goes down, then so will the fiat credit systems.
19194  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will I be able to use Bitcoins at the mall in 2014??? on: December 16, 2013, 10:15:56 AM
Most businesses won't take BTC unless it can be easily switched on using their existing POS system. As much as I love buying stuff IRL with bitcoin, at the moment, it doesn't make business sense to spend time learning about Bitcoin, drop cash on a parallel POS system, and train employees, all in an effort to appease a minuscule fraction of their customer base. What needs to happen first is to make Bitcoins easier to comprehend, secure, and use online.

I think you're exaggerating the cost or problems of implementing Bitcoin as a payment system. It would be no harder or difficult than training an employee to use the current chip and pin card devices. 'Contactless' card payments are now being rolled out and I can't see how paying with Bitcoin would be any different from that. In fact, paying with Bitcoin will be cheaper and quicker for the merchant as they don't have to pay creditcard fees etc. Obviously it's still early days for Bitcoin, but the benefits are there to be seen by all and all we need to do is wait for gradual mainstream acceptance which is happening slowly but surely already.

What needs to happen first is to make Bitcoins easier to comprehend, secure, and use online.

That's already happening with payment processors like bitpay. Just give things time. 6 months noone new about bitcoin and you expect for everyone to jump on the wagon already?

Yes, using Bitcoin will become simpler and easier. With every new technology it takes a little while to get used to.
19195  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Are corporations people? on: December 16, 2013, 10:08:08 AM
This is why all education should be free. Universities are just a business selling you qualifications that can end up being worth little.

There is much of education that is already free. For example Khan Academy and Wikipedia. Universities just sell a reputation that allows people to trust their backing of their students reputation. If people start to trust reputation of Khan Academy, and trust that it can put its backing behind people who take its courses, then universities may start losing their significance. Hopefully in near future people will rely on their built up online reputation more than on the reputation from single university or single employer.

There's a difference between education and qualification. Wikipedia is free knowledge, but it's also free to edit and can contain much inaccuracies and misinformation. It would be currently ridiculous to claim that you studied or got your education from Wikipedia. Obviously you can use it to educate yourself, but without a qualification how can you prove to any one that you are fit for a specific role or job, other than actually taking a new test (which would then negate the point anyway). And when I say education I mean up until University level and to actually gain a qualification. Money should be taken out of the equation for education as it puts those who cannot afford to go at an unfair disadvantage. Also, people should not become brutally in debt for half their life just because they want to better themselves. While obviously qualifications are flawed and can be cheated, a online presence or reputation would probably be much worse.

The Khan Academy is good in principle, and is potentially great for people who don't have access or cannot afford to go to university, but as you say people need to trust the reputation of it before the qualification would become valuable, but at the moment it doesn't seem to be.
19196  Other / Off-topic / Re: Amazon drones, lol on: December 16, 2013, 09:47:38 AM
The future is happening guys,
more and more company such Amazon, UPS , FedEx are considering to deliver customers packages in half an hour or less so let's give it a shot Grin

Only if you live within a half-hour radius of a distribution centre, so I'm guessing this will exclude the majority of people.
19197  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: theories and/or experiences of trading altcoins on: December 16, 2013, 09:45:06 AM
Most altcoins are pretty much leveraged Bitcoin. When Bitcoin goes up, they often go up faster, when Bitcoin drops, they often go down faster.

This kind of ties into this:

I've noticed when Bitcoin shoots up or down in price the rest follow.

So that's why they all move along. It also happens because when the coins start rising people start panic-buying and try to buy the cheapest or next best coin, and obviously this inflates the price, but can lead to crashes when the excitement has calmed down.

anyone interested in altcoin arbitrage?  last night i learned that it may make more sense to mine bitcoin & trade for PPC rather than to mine for PPC directly.  but in the next year or so, perhaps it would make more sense to stockpile LTC?

It is quite possible to mine some of the cheaper lesser known coins then trade them for another currency. It's also possible to mine a newer coin then sell them on ebay for a ridiculous premium, if you're willing to take the risk of using it. Just look at the prices of Dogecoin and Sexcoin and Infinitecoin on ebay. The coins are currently practically worthless, yet they can go for hundreds on ebay. It's nuts.

19199  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DOGE begg for new Phone! on: December 16, 2013, 09:34:34 AM
See ppl like Android here  Cool My mistake make topic for iPhone hehe xD

Apple is openly abusive to their developers and customers. They regularly censor applications for no other reason than they could potentially compete with Apple. They're anti-competitive and monopolistic.

It wouldn't surprise me if Apple bring out their own cryptocoin. iCoin or Applecoin etc.
19200  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Highly ignored uses should have their posts less visible, with opacity on: December 16, 2013, 09:31:57 AM
There are maybe 5 users in this forum with the level of ignores that Icebreaker has. I think that this feature should apply only to such users. It could be applied manually, if needed.

I think in some extreme cases users who have like 100s of ignores should probably literally be ignored by the forum. If somebody is here to just blatantly troll and cause annoyance then they should be essentially 'banned', and this would be a great automatic way to do it. Would be quite amusing if a troll was just posting away to himself and nobody could see his comments.
