Avatars were disabled. There are several threads about this issue in meta: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=24.0

19222  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin won't take over the world. on: December 15, 2013, 12:19:05 PM
IF we don't challenge the status quo and power elites then nothing will change. Personally I'm not ok with the government devaluing our fiat currencies by printing more and more and spending my taxes on wars and bailing out bankers and selling off state-owned business to private capitalists. Bitcoin/crypto is a way to put the power back to the people as it should be, or at least make our muffled voices heard. It may or may not change the world, but we should keep doing what we're doing because they cannot stop this growing beast. Yes, I'm sure the governments and banks won't like what we're doing and try to regulate it and prosecute certain people for money laundering or tax evasion or whatnot, but they're going to have to adapt to survive this and they vertainly can't put us all in prison.
19223  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Anyone Try Selling Bitcoin on eBay? on: December 15, 2013, 12:12:32 PM

I was thinking next time I try that to require the purchaser to email me a scan of one of their household bills to prove their identity before I send the Bitcoins.

You can try it but these can easily be faked. Maybe try sell paper wallets and only send them to a verified address with tracked shipping, if you are going to sell on ebay, but it's probably not worth the hassle.

@hilariousandco you are one of those people who thrive on lecturing 'idiots' like me and you come across as absolutely revolting - not one I would ever befriend in real life..
I came to this thread to get an answer as to why the onsite avatars cannot be used - and now I just get lectured by your ego..
Your last sentence above would have solved my question and would also have avoided all this blabber - but ohh no - you couldn't resist to patronize first..
geesshhh

Not at all, you seem to be making a lot of assumptions about me. I never called you an idiot, you just seem to have taken it personally. My first post to you was completely neutral when I told you to read the rest of the thread, but you got all uppity and childish with the eye-rolling smilies and hostile attitude. Don't be condescending and ask questions that have already been answered and you wont get condescension back. If you read the rest of the threads in this forum by newbs asking the same old questions that have been answered multiple times daily, you'll see people have given far harsher responses than I have. You came to this thread to get an answer, and the answers were already there, and I again answered them with every single reply, but apparently that wasn't enough for you. And my first sentence would've avoided all this blabber - but oh no you couldn’t resist on being childish and condescending yourself so I had to deal with your ego that seems to have been damaged by a simple reply.

Is this offer still valid? I PMed him a while ago but OP never responded.

PM him again, he's online now, but it's not a good idea doing anything for PP unless you're willing to take the risks.

sweet lord  Roll Eyes
@hilariousandco I do not need your patronizing self-righteous comments at all - I can read the thread w/o your advice

my observation still stands as to why the server stock of avatars cannot be used? are they also 'infected' ?

If you can read the thread without my advice, then why ask a question that has already been answered in this very thread and about six others on the first page of metal alone? You keep rolling your eyes but everything I've said is true, so you're being quite childish. I've just explained to you why avatars are disabled. They're not infected, the site was exploited by changing them, as I just said, so that's why the server of stock avatars cannot be used.
19227  Economy / Services / Re: Forum Posters Needed on: December 15, 2013, 10:55:07 AM
I cracked it today and they was like 9 more jobs added, looks to me that you judge by the cover of a book..

No, I think he's judging it by the information available. I don't see any offers to earn money on there, just people offering their services for money. There's also a good chance you wont get paid out by the person offering the work. You're also spamming this site with almost every post you make.

I am not the type that responds to people on the comment board, you expect to go on the site and get free bitcoins, your just like many others on the forum looking for free coins, pure simple, you wanna get paid you gotta work for it and earn it, and btw i don't care whats stuck in the little mind of yours that's giving you the liberty to even reply to my comment when sitting behind the computer jobless, the next comment reply  to me is meant to show how completely jobless you are, and that goes for others who joins to make stupid comment when you actually got nothing to offer the community..

Point out one thing you achieved, or service you offer to bitcoin members, nothing you just a scavenger..

The majority of what you just said makes little-to-no sense and is also completely baseless and fabricated from your own little mind. I think you need to learn how to handle criticism. What guarantee does anybody have that they will get paid for their services once they have completed the work?

Th guarantee is that its not a one man website, that is a community of people from here so, its not just me, its alo't of people from here and the design is still on going by members here too and they do it for free and some half price, just trying to make a bitcoin community and not a bitoin business, withdrawal is going to be automatic(Work in progress) once buyer Ok's a job as complete it auto send to the sellers bitcoin address unless there is a dispute then we are required to make a decision, so don't think its one man business or mine, its a community and i know how to handle criticism, when someone says, "You need to improve" its not the same as saying "That is stupid" like the first comment that made this happen...

Now that was a better answer. You should learn to conduct yourself a bit better and handle criticism if you're trying to run a business/service as it doesn’t make you or your community look very good when you start dishing out baseless insults to simple criticism. People are always sceptical of sites like these because there's a lot of scams out there. There's plenty of people who are prepared to work for Bitcoins, but also a lot of people who aren’t willing to waste their time for nothing, so they need some guarantee that they're going to get paid.

How does the process work exactly? Does the person who is offering the work send the money to your company to hold on to in escrow, then once the work is completed you send the money on to the worker? How are disputes handled? Say if I sign up to somebody offering to pay 0.10 Bitcoin for every ten articles I write, and I do this, but he says I didn't, will you investigate yourself and then decided the outcome?

Do I need to produce a certain amount of posts before I can load one of the default avatars in my profile  Huh

Read the rest of this thread for an explanation.

geee do you think I just barged in and posted w/o reading the full thread  Roll Eyes
I got the impression from this thread that it is only if you want to upload an external avatar that it won't work - my impression is that the default on-server avatars should be selectable..

By the looks of things, yes. If you had read the thread you wouldn’t've needed to make your question. Avatars are disabled because the site was exploited by changing avatars. There's also several other topics on this on front page of Meta alone, but I'll give you credit for at least not making your own thread about it.
19229  Other / Meta / Re: Staff members advertising on: December 15, 2013, 10:41:43 AM
I don't see what the problem is either. As long as the staff member is not getting bribed/being paid money by his sponsor to delete posts or influence something in a way, then it should be fine as long as it's not against the bitcointalk terms. If they spend a lot of time here they might as well get paid a little for the effort.

19231  Other / Meta / Re: More default avatars? on: December 15, 2013, 10:25:20 AM
Would it be possible to upload a bunch of default avatars and enable only those so then people can have avatars?

Seems that a lot of newbs are complaining about that.

I'm sure if they were going to do that they could just fix it so everybody can have choose avatars. I don't think just because newbs keep making threads about something is a valid reason. If your suggestion was implemented they'd still make threads asking why they can't upload their own. The best solution would be to put some redtext under the avatar section saying AVATARS CURRENTLY DISABLED. That should hopefully cut threads down.

19233  Economy / Lending / Re: asking for loan of 1btc for 1 weeks on: December 15, 2013, 10:16:51 AM
This should be in the lending section, and nobody's going to lend a newb 1BTC even with ID. Fake drivers licences can be bought cheaper than that.

Go sell your signature space in the services section or try sell some stuff on the marketplace; that's the only way to easily get some coin.

19235  Economy / Services / Re: Earn up to 0.4BTC/month just by posting! on: December 15, 2013, 09:53:52 AM
Can you make bounties bigger? Because btc is dropping.

0.4 BTC is currently over £200. That's still a hell of a lot of money just for posting on forums. Plus, you can always just keep a hold of it until it rises if you want to be greedy or get your moneys worth out of it.
19236  Economy / Goods / Re: What can I sell and ship from Australia on: December 14, 2013, 10:57:11 PM
Are Uggs less expensive in Aussie?

Yeah, that's a point. They're ridiculously expensive here. Crappy, poorly-made boots too.

My mum bought some uggs and they fell apart after a few months. Dunno whether she got fake ones or not, but I often see women walking around with their boots looking like this:

19237  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much btc was cheated off you before? on: December 14, 2013, 10:52:41 PM
People are scammable, not Bitcoins. Never been scammed so far, and hopefully never will be because I would be mad as hell and probably punch a puppy.

I think this may now be the most epic Bitcoin image in the world.

19240  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Litecoin ever see prices reach $1000? on: December 14, 2013, 10:13:18 PM

Which ones are these? Peercoin and Namecoin?

Nah, take a gamble on one of the cheaper ones. Feathercoin, WorldCoin, Megacoin etc. Do some research and see which one has something that the others can't or don't offer.

Lots of people are talking about quarkcoin and dodgecoin, but am I missing something? What is so special about it?

They're just bagholders trying to pimp out and promote coins they got in early with and hold lots of. People missed the BTC train so they want to try get rich quick off a shitty alt, so they just spam about how good it is in the hope the price rises so they can pump and dump their coins.
