19241  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Litecoin ever see prices reach $1000? on: December 14, 2013, 09:56:14 PM
It needs some merchants behind it. It will keep rising as Bitcoin rises and people jump onto the 'next best currency'.

This pretty much. I can't see it getting anywhere close to Bitcoin in value without any merchants accepting it. I've heard almost nothing about Litecoin in the media, and even when I have it's only a tiny passing reference.
19242  Other / Off-topic / Re: Lose vs Loose on: December 14, 2013, 09:51:11 PM

now that I know how many people are bothered by something as simple as your vs. you're I'm going to do it all the time.

This one bugs me. Not only do they have different meanings, they have different pronunciations. Your is one sylable, like yore, and you're is two syllables, rhymes with sewer. But the most annoying part of your-you're is that many times the sentence will have a valid but completely different meaning when the wrong word is used.

I can't argue with that. Your right. rofl

Your retarded  Grin.
19243  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: alt coins. Are they worth it?? and if so which ones on: December 14, 2013, 09:47:58 PM
I like Feathercoin. It has a great community behind it and the free-to-use ebay-style market is a big plus.
19244  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Are corporations people? on: December 14, 2013, 09:44:28 PM

Corporations are a group of people, they are not a person.

Are you arguing against Mitt Romney?

I wonder how many Bitcoins Santa Claus will leave me in my stocking this year.

None if you haven't been a good little boy or girl.  Cheesy

thebitcoinnews.co.uk/2013/12/10/paypal-president-david-marcus-bitcoin-is-good-nfc-is-bad/

So the president of paypal owns bitcoins, as he should.
Do you think paypal will ever come to support bitcoin and bitcoin wallets?

If so, bitcoin will be on the rise again Smiley

I think they'd be foolish not to. Maybe they don't have to accept them as payment first, but they/ebay should set up a marketplace/escrow so you can purchase them. They'd make a killing in fees. One of the drawbacks of BTC for people is actually getting a hold of coins and the tiresome faff of having to deal with exchanges. I got my first coins off ebay with PP because I liked the convenience and ease of the process and I'm sure the general public would like to get them this way too.
19249  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The media and financial media's incorrect valuation of Bitcoin on: December 14, 2013, 08:41:02 PM
I think someone should keep a history of all the bullshit and incorrect assumptions/predictions that the press spits out

Haha, that's probably 99% of articles in the mainstream media then  Cheesy.

You can get rid of a paper trail with BTC by laundering/washing it/tumbling it.

Doesn’t seem to be working very well for the Sheep marketplace robber haha  Grin

Haha, yeh, it might be a problem when you try and do it with over $100m!!!

Yup, he definitely got too greedy with that heist.

Yeah, the Atmos Raw is one I was interested in, but I think I read somewhere about them being the ones that combusted the weed sometimes and I really cant have one that does that.

Apparently it can burn the bud: http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/atmosraw.4864/page-29

There's some suggestions on there for alternatives.

19253  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin support a country? on: December 14, 2013, 07:53:40 PM
YOu'd have 3 main problems:

1. Declaring a sovereign nation just doesn't happen that easily anymore, every land on the planet is claimed.

Anything can be bought if you have the right amount of money  Wink, but yes, it's very hard to create your own nation. I guess it needs to be for obvious reasons. If you piss America or Britain off I'm sure they'd be over there in a jiffy to blast you out of existence, but as a libertarian I do love the idea of Bitcoinland.

Wow. This is the type of thing that will prevent BTC from gaining mainstream acceptance. Sorry that you guys lost your coins/money. I thought that ebay and paypal didn't allow BTC type transactions because this type of scam happens too often? I tried to buy a miner on ebay once and they cancelled it due to possible fraud. Turns out it was a legit auction.(I talked with the seller afterwards) I got my money back but would have liked to have had the miner!

After reading this I'm using an escrow service for future BTC purchases.

I hope you find a way to get your money back.

People are scammed out of everything in life by unscrupulous people. I don't see how this is any different.

OK? What's your point? Huh

My point is scams wont "prevent BTC from gaining mainstream acceptance". People have been scamming since the dawn of man. People are being scammed daily with Paypal, but that doesn't seem to have stopped it from gaining mainstream acceptance. In fact, I'd say there's far more fraud committed with PP than there is BTC.

I agree 100%. With paypal, CC, banks, etc you at least have a chance (no matter how small) to get your money back. With BTC when it's gone, it's gone. The anonymity is both a blessing an a curse in some cases. It won't stop me from using BTC, but for some people not well versed in the idea of BTC, reading stories like these may be a huge turn-off.

It is very much a blessing and a curse, but with PP and CC and banks genuine people can get ripped off by fraudster buyers who do a charge-back and get their money returned. I think all systems need improving and tweaking.

The biggest problem that BTC faces as a currency is the anonimity aspect with regard to scammers. At least with Paypal, there's a paper trail. With BTC, the worst of society can blackmail, bribe and extort without much fear of repercussion.

There's a paper trail with BTC too via the blockchain.

Obviously both fiat and cryptos have their advantages and disadvantages. I'm sure there'll be more secure and user friendly wallets coming out in 2014. I'd like to see a wallet app that needs a fingerpint scan and pin before you can send money. I think that would cut down a lot of theft and reassure the general public.
19255  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do people believe so firmly in 'the law' on: December 14, 2013, 07:04:37 PM
Why do people believe so firmly in God or angels? Some people just go to bits without something guiding them. With law it's just a common set of rules for society to function. Obviously some laws are stupid and shouldn’t be in place, but all we can do as a people is protest and try to change them for the common good so justice can prevail.

19259  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin support a country? on: December 14, 2013, 05:34:31 PM
so we can make a sell off and then buy in this whole country? Grin

If Bitcoin was adopted by a country as an official currency, could the Bitcoin network handle it?

There was an idea on the forums to buy an island and declare it a BTC republic. Some of them cost just a few mil $.

Ha, that would be great. Some of these Bitcoin millionaires should club together and buy their own.
And they are really affordable. Just check this out http://www.privateislandsonline.com/islands/nanuya-island-resort

Imagine creating a BTC only town on one of those islands, with some hotels and bungalows for rent. People would go there just to check out the one and only BTC banana republic  Cheesy

Wow. Peeps should actually do this. As long as you can turn it into your own sovereign nation and have Bitcoin as it's currency this would be a great idea. I bet you'd make your money back if you built hotels/property on it. Imagine all the free publicity you would get as the media would be all over this.
19260  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do I go about making a paper wallet? on: December 14, 2013, 05:15:04 PM
I am quite concerned with the security issue. Is it safe enough to print paper wallets in shared printers? I can't afford a printer right now. Please advice me.

Well, you'll probably be alright, but not if you want to be super safe, and it's not a good idea if you're already paranoid. You could just write the public and private keys down instead.
omg no.
humans are incapable of doing this task reliably

And/Or maybe take a picture of them instead?
