19261  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin support a country? on: December 14, 2013, 05:14:06 PM
so we can make a sell off and then buy in this whole country? Grin

If Bitcoin was adopted by a country as an official currency, could the Bitcoin network handle it?

There was an idea on the forums to buy an island and declare it a BTC republic. Some of them cost just a few mil $.

Ha, that would be great. Some of these Bitcoin millionaires should club together and buy their own.
19262  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Bitcoin is anonymous" --- According to every avg. Joe, but is it really? on: December 14, 2013, 05:12:23 PM
It's only truly anonymous if you want it to be and know what you're doing. I also heard about Bitcoin through its ties to Silk Road and was fascinated by both. As a libertarian and anti-prohibitionist I immediately loved both concepts.

Hi. Thanks for the response. I'd like one of the discreet pen-style electric ones. The ones you mentioned look a bit too big / suspicious for what I'm after. I will check out the forum link.

For price. Around £100 I'd say.

Have you seen the Atmos ones? I haven't personally tried it, but it seems to be quite popular and fits your description.

I'm really trying to decide if I should hold my Dogecoins or trade into Litecoin. I see Dogecoins rising in value today since the difficulty is literally already twice what it was yesterday. The downside is, I wouldn't be able to mine a decent amount of Dogecoins afterward if I do. Maybe trade half into Litecoin? I only managed to mine about 50k with my crappy hashes (about 200kh on scrypt-based coins). What do you guys think I should do? I'd like to profit a little short term so I can invest more in long term.

You might as well hold them and hope they gain in profit. You won't get much for them at the moment.
19265  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newb Q: Anonymity from $ to BTC on: December 14, 2013, 02:28:35 PM
Hey guys, glad to be here and finally hear about this stuff Smiley

I'm a little cautious about giving away my personal information (i.e. license, social security #, etc.) before being able to transfer $ to Bitcoin. Is there any way to circumvent this or is it a necessary evil? Also, how does it affect my anonymity with BTC transactions?

Thanks friends

You can buy coins from people on the marketplace here, or find somebody locally via a freeads site or localbitcoins.com.
19266  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why is it so hard to buy coins? on: December 14, 2013, 02:26:49 PM
Buy them from the marketplace here; just use a reputable seller and escrow agent.
19267  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where does everyone think Bitcoin will be in 6 months time? (Boom or Bust?) on: December 14, 2013, 02:12:39 PM
Its been given a fair value of $1,300... does that mean that people think it will survive as a legitamite currency... rather than punt?

It already is a legitimate currency, but I'm sure it'll gradually gain more and more mainstream acceptance during 2014. I'm looking forward to watching it grow.
19268  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin Bingo on: December 14, 2013, 01:51:21 PM

Any links to info on it?
19269  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New alt coins? on: December 14, 2013, 01:42:51 PM
Hi,
Noob question here - Is there some kind of thread / blog / website that has the info for new alt coins releases (and is updated the same hour / day)?
I find it useful to mine new alt coins the minute they are released as this seems to work well profit-wise (just like the amazing DogeCoin Smiley )

Thanks

Just keep an eye on the alternative currencies forum. As soon as they go public they'll be announced there too.
19270  Other / Meta / Re: Forum avatar? on: December 14, 2013, 01:32:15 PM
Anyone got a bigger version of this?
Yes, the Internet.

Thanks, the internet!  Cheesy
19271  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I am glad to find this excellent website on: December 14, 2013, 01:22:25 PM
I am in china and I find this website by chance but I think I can learn very much here!

I also hope I can find the next Bitcoin

Welcome. Make sure to take what people claim to be the next Bitcoin with a pinch of salt and make sure to do your own research. Lots of people here will claim coins to be useful only because they have an invested interest to do so.

You can keep an eye on the current big alt coins here: http://coinmarketcap.com/

=====================

THANK YOU , I  knew your wensite about a month ago and I often  visit it

It's not my website, but the guy posts on here so maybe thank him there. His thread is here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=199685.0
19272  Economy / Services / Re: Signature space for rent! on: December 14, 2013, 01:02:54 PM
People are unlikely to pay for a signature upfront because you could just get the money and not post at all. Maybe try ask for a loan in the loans section on the promise you'll pay out once you get the signature money. Primedice pays out on the 17th and you can join any time, so jump on that and make 50 posts and then you've got more than you wanted.
19273  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: theories and/or experiences of trading altcoins on: December 14, 2013, 12:50:04 PM
My advice, hit all the giveaways when coins are new, sit on them. Profit.

While this can be a good idea, be careful of downloading new coin wallets; some of them have had trojans and keyloggers in. Won't be so much profit if all your Bitcoins go missing  Cheesy.
19274  Other / Meta / Re: "Giveaway only accounts"/Sockpuppets on: December 14, 2013, 12:47:14 PM
I don't even think it's profitable to just post for givaways and stuff.

It could be very profitable. If you're willing to put in the work and have a handful of accounts posting with signature deals you could earn a decent wage. Look at all the coins that get given away in their infancy; if you hold on to them they might be worth something.
19275  Economy / Services / Re: Earn up to 0.4BTC/month just by posting! on: December 14, 2013, 12:43:08 PM
score! i have hit 1200 for the month.. christ, that was painful  Cheesy

currently sitting at 1482 with this post now.. will probably limit my posts to 15 per day until the 17th, as i am really worn out at this point  Cheesy Cheesy

i'll try to set my sights on 500 next month, but i don't think i will be able to make it.. 300-400 is more realistic.

congrats...  Grin but how much time a day do you spend posting on the forum?  I mean, 1200 posts is about 40 posts a day...  Roll Eyes

1200/30 = 40 posts per day
average constructive post time: 1 min 30 seconds
40 * 1.5 = 60 minutes of posting a day, and more if you do a lot.
0.4 BTC ~$375.

$375 an hour? Not too bad.

I'm at my computer practically all day and can tell you it doesn't work out like that. I have been hitting around 70 posts a day and that's a struggle. But either way, yeah, the money's good.
19276  Other / Meta / Re: Bug in post speed limit on: December 14, 2013, 12:39:03 PM
Wow, PrimeDice seems to be the thing now!  I remember when inputs.io's signature deal was all the rage.

Yeah, there seems to be more and more people signing up. Can't blame 'em. It'll be interesting to see if bitsplay.ga pays out though and how many people jump ship.
19277  Economy / Goods / Re: What can I sell and ship from Australia on: December 14, 2013, 12:35:53 PM
Hi

I am looking to make some money, what can I buy in Australia and ship overseas that's in demand?
Kylie Minogue

She already got sold to an overseas buyer.  Purchased by the same people that bought Madonna I believe

Tongue

Haha.

Sephera, you can only have one signature advertisement under Stunna's terms. Might want to remove one or the other.

19279  Other / Meta / Re: Split from: [WTB] Bitcointalk accounts on: December 14, 2013, 12:11:24 PM
I'm thankful to the member who stopped me, but I think a list is needed of all the accounts that people have sold.

And how is it possible for such a list to exist? Also as someone said before trust noone and you should be fine  Tongue

I already fundamentally don't trust people, but I'm afraid you have to a little if you want to do business one way or another on this site. There's no way you can 100% guarantee yourself against problems/scams, but obviously there's ways to minimise the risk, but publically allowing or tolerating the sale of accounts doesn't help this at all.
19280  Other / Meta / Re: Split from: [WTB] Bitcointalk accounts on: December 14, 2013, 11:49:54 AM
Shall we turn this place into a black market and sell drugs, weapons and porn as well since bans and prohibition don't work and people can just make these purchases here privately?

All of these are OK provided that it's legal in the seller's and the buyer's countries.
But perhaps he would feel safer roaming a country that has bans on these things as well?

Would you feel safer roaming the streets if people were openly trying to sell you and your children drugs and guns and the authorities did nothing about it?

Do you feel unsafe if people roaming the streets are selling masks, wigs, and makeup?

No. I don't know what country has bans or restrictions on those things.
