1961  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Couple of questions regarding Grayscale's GBTC on: August 30, 2023, 09:35:22 AM
Grayscale is a company that provides many services and products. Bitcoin Spot ETF is a next product is going to be provided by Grayscale if it is approved by SEC.

Everything you wanted to know about Grayscale BTC Trust but were afraid to ask!.

Ask fillippone.

Yes OP, all your doubts will be answered in the above thread.
Here I would only specify that Grayscale ETF wouldn’t be a new product, but the conversion of GBTC, where the T stands for “Trust” into and ETF.

Well, it looks like you already need reading glasses, since we were talking about 2062 not 2065, so hopefully you put your reminder in your calendar properly.

Well, I had to double-check, but I was apparently right.

For the lulz.
By far the longest appointment on my calendar.

he's either using a Mac or he's Nullius' alter-account. Either way, kudos to him.

Me being alt of Nullius would be one hell of a plot twist!
Check my feedback page for reference!

Quote
To avoid arbitrariness and caprice, administrative adjudication must be consistent and predictable, following the basic principle that similar cases should be treated similarly.
NYSE Arca presented substantial evidence that Grayscale is similar, across the relevant regulatory factors, to bitcoin futures ETPs. The Commission failed to adequately explain why it approved the listing of two bitcoin futures ETPs but not Grayscale’s proposed bitcoin ETP. In the absence of a coherent explanation, this unlike regulatory treatment of like products is unlawful. We therefore grant Grayscale’s petition for review and vacate the Commission’s order.

That quote is brutal. A total roast.
Actually well deserved.
The SEC did an actual damage to the US investors, obliging them to invest in dubious vehicle or stocks (MSTR?) to get exposure to Bitcoin, instead of investing in a simple ETF.
1965  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Everything you wanted to know about Grayscale BTC Trust but were afraid to ask! on: August 29, 2023, 03:13:34 PM
In the market GBTC skyrocketed to a 15% discount.

Discount still around 25% unless mistaken? Currently $BTC around $27.5K and $GBTC around $20.5K (27.5 x 0.75 = 20.63)

It is up around 15%+ today though as of writing.

It doesn't work exactly like that.
It's very volatile right now, but on a back of the envelop basis:

at 10:52 NYT
BTC: 27,400 USD
GBTC: 20.50 USD
ENTITLEMENT: 0.00090094 BTC (as of yesterday, no time to adjust that).

So every GBTC share contains 0.00090094 BTC, so it is worth 0.00090094*27,400 USD=24.69 USD.
Market Price is 20.50 USD, so the discount is 17% at that time.
1966  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Everything you wanted to know about Grayscale BTC Trust but were afraid to ask! on: August 29, 2023, 02:50:07 PM
Breaking news.

This doesn't imply an immediate GBTC conversion to an ETF, but for sure it put some pressure on the SEC, which has a flurry of deadlines in these days.

In the market GBTC skyrocketed to a 15% discount.
1967  Other / Meta / Re: #meritislife: how to be notified on a smartband of merits and mentions on: August 29, 2023, 06:56:18 AM
I tried to edit and add a little code to the table; here are the results:

Dear Lord!
How comes such an horrible outcomes came unnoticed for so much time?
Even @gazetabitcoin, who is usually nitpicking my threads for errors, typos and inconsistencies didn't mention that?

Thank you very much for your suggestion in edits.
In reality I know that a simple empty column will do the trick.

Code:
[td][/td]

Thanks, going to fix it soon.

OP fixed, thank you fro bringing this up.
Since I was there, I also fixed some broken images and gif's.
1968  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 29, 2023, 06:37:37 AM

well I am ¾ Italian and fillippo is kind of Italian for Philip so Quote this 1 more time.

If I philipma1957 live into the year 2062 and past Jan 01 of 2062   to be precise:

I will move the 0.0105 BTC into JJG's

BTC address of his choice

If JJG is dead by Jan 01 of 2062

I will move it into the BTC address of fillippone's choice.

BTW I will be 105 years old in Jan of 2062 so good luck on collecting the gift as I do not think I will get there.

It would be a great reason to give away the gift.

Thanks!
I already set a reminder on my calendar. Addy in PM.
I won’t disclose my chances of being alive in 2065, but that makes me think about the following: what does it qualifies us as “alive”?
Posting on the WO Observer seems like a good proxy. Any other idea? What is the meaning of life without posting on the WO?

Your such a good sport...
*You’re

And of course I miss @proudhon.
@proudhon, where art thou?

You're just worried about the receipt of your "proudhon gift."

I get the sense that you do not "really" and "truly" like him.

Of course I miss him primarily for his bet:

<...>

Target price: 170,000 USD

Not bad.
Bullish.
My body is ready.

Money is going to leave the bitcoin ecosystem over the next 12 months (and forever after on average). Bitcoin will never reach that price. If it does, I'll buy $10k worth and give it to you.

Quoted for reference.
Please someone help me remember when it happens!

But I liked the lateral humor and the contrarian stance. Also bearing in mind he probably has the biggest stash here on the WO adds some humor to his posts.

I really miss those food pics Arriemoller used to post on his semi-regular outings to the automotive parts place.  I find it hard to believe but he must have bought himself a new ride.

Like this classic?

Gotta go now, have to pick up some spare parts for my old Volvo, time for a overhaul, winter is coming.

Time to get a new one and keep the old for summer useage

Next year maybe, for now it'll do just fine.
So, I have decided to give the car some love.
a new generator 170 USD (the bearings in the old one is starting to make noise), two new fan belts, 16 USD, 4000 lumen LED lights for the hi beam, 32 USD, two "new" front tires (from the scrap yard, 80 USD for both, including putting them on and balancing), a wheel side and a plastic cover for the radiator fan, also from the scrap yard, 17 USD.
And a delicious meal, 1 sausage, mashed potatoes and shrimp sallad and a Pucko with that, and for dessert a cup of coffee and a cinnamon bun, 4 USD.

He bought an used Tesla 100D if I remember correctly.

I would like a way to reduce clutter on the site and if i recall correctly the ignore button does the trick.

On the other hand, I miss the lateral, witty humor of this thread.
Even the dickpics
Even the private part sunning.
Even the happy people postcards.
(slighly reworded just to make google serch a little bit more difficult).

Merit shower to he quotes the appropiate messages.

Edit: as @xHomerx10 notes, images might not be displayed because of the imgur debacle. But post are still there (pretty sure the infamous dickpic has been deleted thou)

And of course I miss @proudhon.

1974  Economy / Reputation / Re: [FUN] Is DdmrDdmr even human? on: August 28, 2023, 02:21:56 PM

It is clear to me that some of them are not read, they are automatically distributed by his script. I would expect nothing less from our beloved human AI.

This is exactly how I understood that. So he didn’t read the post, at least he didn’t as we human interpret this sentence. He instantly absorbs the post content via meriting script.

We will leave the philosophical rumination about a script giving merits to a post that has already been merited by X different users without reading it to a separate thread, as this is [FUN].

I wish to be like him some day.

Step number one would be learning the basic rule of the forum and avoiding quoting the whole message when not necessary.
Please edit your post removing the not relevant part of the quoted message (I would say, all of it).

Once in a while, I get Merited by DdmrDdmr on an old post, and every time it makes me think he read the old post. Then this topic pops up and bursts my bubble. It's just another bot Meriting me without reading Tongue

Been there, done that.
But I appreciate every bot, AI or cyborg mertiting me: dopamine beats everything.

1979  Economy / Economics / Re: Everything you wanted to know about BTC options but were afraid to ask! on: August 28, 2023, 09:44:40 AM
I didn't know earlier, but I stumbled on a series of videos that are quite informative about option trading: Glassnode Clips.
There is a video from three days ago, that analyses the drop in implied vols in Bitcoin:

This video shows how to interpret in the current trading environment using concepts like implied volatility, delta skew, volumes, and Open interest.
