1961  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: What wallet should I use for Bitcoin? on: February 09, 2020, 02:43:53 AM
If you're into serious amounts and security, while also preserving flexibility, go for a hardware wallet like Ledger.

If you plan to keep it as safe as possible, and plan to hold long-term, consider storing it in an air-gapped device storing an offline/cold/paper wallet.

If it's not that much and you plan on trading/spending it anyway, then go for online wallets (though not that safe).
1962  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: U.S. Losing Grip on The Blockchain Industry on: February 08, 2020, 12:24:35 PM
US has been the standard for what's 'next'. They mainly develop technology far more advanced than other Asian countries (except maybe Japan) in the past. Asian countries like China rebrands these technologies and mass-produces them for consumer use.

However, I do agree it turns out the other way around this time. Mainly because of political factors. But improvements in technology kn China (such as AI) makes them a contender to the race.
1963  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Jack Dorsey-Backed Lightning Labs Raises $10 Million on: February 08, 2020, 10:51:10 AM
A generous move from a social media CEO and as well as a Bitcoin enthusiast. He sure proves with his action that he is a fan of decentralized systems. He even had inititiated a research aiming if decentralization is applicable in Twitter.

Lightning Network also is something to wait, as its development would make Bitcoin scale more for merchant's use.
1964  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What Money System Worked? on: February 08, 2020, 07:06:58 AM
This might be better in Economics board.

Barter is difficult, and also a vague way of exchanging goods and their corresponding value. Precious metals on the other hand, provides anonymity and equality among all, since it cannot be manipulated, but rather can only be collected through whatever means. Fiat money and current economic system favors the rich and makes the gap between the rich and the poor much larger.
1965  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Usage Among Merchants Is Up on: February 08, 2020, 02:57:26 AM
Adoption becomes difficult on the part where transaction finality is not always guaranteed for merchants. They can't just risk giving an item to customers while having to wait if the transaction goes through the blockchain.

Though I must agree on the part that cryptocurrencies should start being introduced to the curriculum. Just a brief explanation of what these are, and what are other types of digital currecies available.

PS. TL;DR would be nice for this post.
1966  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: FinCen Deputy Director remarks on Cryptocurrency on: February 08, 2020, 12:15:26 AM
Do these people not know that cash money are far more untraceable than most cryptocurrencies, and that it is used for the bulk of money laundering efforts?
Paper cash might be used that way, such as money laundering, etc., but banks and other entities utilizing cash money store logs digitally, including one's identity records. Even if the money is dispersed, there's a greater percentage of conviction once identities have been revealed, and it interconnects upon investigation, solving a case.

Unlike in cryptocurrencies that is pretty much straighforward in most cases, transact here, stay anonymous as long as you don't participate in any third-party implementing AML/KYC.
1967  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: **TAKE YOUR COINS OFF EXCHANGES** on: February 07, 2020, 10:10:55 PM
I agree to most part, but not the bull run. As long as we rely on fiat like USD for valuation of BTC, we couldn't get rid the use of exchanges. The overall average price of BTC is derived from the price on each exchange, which is also driven by buy/sell orders.

Though I must agree that it isn't really your Bitcoins, since they haven't used the original core protocols to speed up orders, but also centralizes their system. If most people would get out of exchanges, it might trigger a crash to the price, and trading would be difficult (P2P direct trading), and the valuation would be vague.
1968  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi's IP address found on: February 07, 2020, 12:52:05 PM
It seems real, but still highly debateable. And given that the address is on Tor makes it difficult to trace, since the original request was jumped to multiple relays before reaching the receiver of the email. All the data sent and received in the network is protected with multiple layers of encryption, and cracking through all of them just to know which IP it originated seems impossible.
1969  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling Site's Investing (Is it worth it?) on: February 07, 2020, 06:07:30 AM
Similar to investing stocks/shares to a company. Once the company you ibvested in lose market profit, their stock price also goes down. This is somewhat a similar idea, but you're just taking a percentage cut directly into their sales.

I might invest few of my funds, since the odds of the house winning on these online gambling casinos is greater than the actual gambler winning. Though before investing, always check the legitimacy of the site. They might use mock customers that they'll consider losing, when there's no actual losers in the platform or even players, and just have the funds of investors taken off.
1970  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What's in the game, after all? on: February 07, 2020, 01:58:57 AM
There are other types of games in relation to gambling. Rolling dice might not be the most entertaining one. Some types of gambling games that could entertain a gambler is betting on something, like in horse racing. The anticipation is what drives them to be thrilled. Other type of games include card games, some with few mechanics, but is still based on luck.

What I see that can also entertain a user is the interaction he gets on gambling. Chat rooms and such also adds to the entertainment and enjoyment they feel.
1971  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Transactions on Smartwatches? on: February 06, 2020, 11:55:24 PM
A wallet app could easily port their app UI to a smartwatch, or better yet, have it paired with the phone nearby. Before making any transaction, the smartwatch would ask for a PIN (for security purposes of pther people trying to connect with the phone to spend someone's coins).

The idea of having it on smartwatch is almost the same as having a card, or using your phone's NFC for payment, which is actually convenient.
1972  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Transaction Finality on Bitcoin on: February 06, 2020, 11:21:15 PM
As far as I know, confirmations are different from finality in a blockchain. Confirmation is the amount of validation made my miners on a transaction. On the other hand, Finality refers to the method on how blockchain protocols consider a transaction final.

On Bitcoin network, they appeal on what's called Probabilistic Finality. From the term itself 'Probability', it appeals to the chances of reverting a transaction to mere impossible, because it digs deep the transaction of up to six blocks, making forks extremely difficult to alter hashes.

There are other types of finalities for other blockchain-based systems. Though all of them are given criteria for either availability (fast transactions), or consistency (security filtering out bad transactions).

1973  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UK gamblers cannot use Credit Cards for gambling from April 14, 2020 on: February 06, 2020, 10:05:00 AM
It's for the citizen's protection, and also for the banks. It might hurt the demand for these sites, but it's better rather than having a population relying on gambling for living, which not only makes them poor, but also makes the economy slower by having a part of their population not being much productive and fund-wise.
1974  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Win a Presidential plane... on: February 06, 2020, 08:15:16 AM
Are they short in funds? Or in desparate need but doesn't want to loan to other countries?

Nevertheless, having a single ticket would onyl get you as far as 0.000016% of winning. Near zero value like this won't attract me that much.

Also, how are they so sure that 6M tickets would be sold? (Unless whales hoard tickets, or people there really does want a plane). Winning it also comes with another problem of selling it. Unless he is an experienced one, he might get into trouble for dealing and selling this property.
1975  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Oscar Awards 2020 betting on: February 06, 2020, 06:15:27 AM
It's difficult to bet to. One reason is that Oscar Awards has been criticized to be biased, manipulated or paid to. Sometimes, it doesn't really make sense and the awards goes to those you don't expect.

Nevertheless, it's still up to you whether you'll risk the money.
1976  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Recommended games for lottery players? (Something with a jackpot?) on: February 06, 2020, 02:22:48 AM
Freebitco.in is one notable site that has been up for years (since 2013), and has also a faucet and a provably hi-lo game like lottery, where you're just hoping for a jackpot.

You could also try your luck in LuckyDice. From the name itself, it's a lottery chance-based game where you roll 2 dices in each bet.

Both have different interfaces and game UIs, but still the same concept.
1977  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: TIPS FOR NEWBIE GAMBLERS ! on: February 05, 2020, 10:16:13 PM
#7 is always right. Same as with investing on cryptocurrencies, which is also quite of a gamble because of volaility.

A lot of these online casinos have sneaky "terms and conditions" as they call it, that would hinder you from withdrawing your money once you won in their platform. And if you're not careful enough to read and understand these messages, you'll have nothing against them since you "agreed" on their misleading terms. We also can't do pretty much anything about it since they are not regulated that much, and predatpry acts like these are always done.
1978  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Lomachenko vs. Teofimo Lopez Lightweight Unification fight on: February 05, 2020, 10:28:30 AM
Lomachenko might have the experience, but as Bob Arum said, Lopez can bring out surprises to fights. The age gap is not really that relevant since 30s is still an age where mose boxers actually fight their best, with training and experience in the ring.

It's either Lopez surprises us, or Lomachenko proves Lopez he ain't ready to take the title. Nevertheless, still a fight worth to watch.
1979  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Where to open an online Bitcoin Casino on: February 05, 2020, 08:31:57 AM
I don't think there's no such country allowing having any operations with money involved to be not licensed. Since your website involves transactions, money, and sales, they would most certainly look for you and your permits to operate.

If you plan to release it anyway, try releasing it only in testing phase. Have a group of people interested in testing out the game first, and without real money involved, have them play around your simple website/casino (if that's what you'd call it). Testing the product first before it's release has some advantages like:
  • You'd be aware of the bugs, if there are any.
  • You'd get responses from the testers on what to improve on the gameplay and the site overall
  • You could reduce the chances that something goes wrong while players are actually playing and betting their own money (which would lead to lawsuits).
1980  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: two gambling games that are players favorite on: February 05, 2020, 05:46:44 AM
Dice games offer minimal mechanics but less the thrill, and is often depressing when you're just losing your luck. Card games, on the other hand, are much more gameplay-rich, and has way more thrill and makes you think first before actually making an action.

Favorite games might be dependent on several factors such as: time required to play, the mechanics and difficulty, and the possible amount of win.
