X11 is actual in summer cause it's cold. Also "cold" is energy effective and low noise from rig. Also X11 now asic resistive.

What the heck are you talking about? By the way, scrypt was supposed to be ASIC resistant too.

I think he means this...

Quote
Mining X11 gives 3-4 times the hash power of Scrypt, uses less energy and generates less heat.

My guess is he is not a native english speaker but he is right 100%

maybe look into x11 some more if you have not (http://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/news/pros-cons-x11-algorithm/2014/04/10)

still not sure what makes X11 special - it isnt for LTC is it?   From all I see it just looks like another altcoin and is less profitable than scrypt mining

Either you cant read a chart or you are assuming current asics run at a point to the extreme left of that chart

Yes this is exactly what I am assuning due to the fact that no asic manufacturer has advertised below 0.5w/gh (bitfury excluded) and nobody has been able to significantly undervolt below advertised limit.

Quote
which would also imply those other asics can be overclocked by factor of 2-3x. Here is hint: almost none can. KnC, HF, CT, bitmain, Bitmine .. you'd be lucky to hit advertised speeds, let alone 2-3x more.

Either way, welcome to my ignore list.

Heres a hint:

knc can be overclocked 1.7 times  (700gh/s vs advertised 40gh/s)
Hashfast can be overclocked 2 times (800gh/s vs 400gh advertised)
And bitmain can be overclocked 2 times (200gh vs 100gh advertised)

All of which have no problem hashing at advertised speeds.

Again, got any evidence that other manufacturers are not on the far left side of that chart?

Bitmain advertises 180GH. it can overclock to to ~205GH

I can post your pix before they even arrive:

I have no idea how your unit could have gotten like that. the black bent peice is made of pretty sturdy metal and is a sructural part of the case.   Your unit looks like it sustained a fall or something, why did you sign for it if it was rattling so bad?
1984  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Server PSU for Antminer S1, step by step guide. on: May 03, 2014, 09:21:42 PM
I need one that does not make much noise, preferably 1000W+. Some suggestion fellows?

Maybe I can even add extra silent coolers on it.

the dps-800 units are good if you run them on 200V+ and at under 800W load.
1985  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: May 03, 2014, 03:21:24 PM
FWIW some second hand evidence of progress does filter it's way onto the net. RM posted this today. I'll leave it to your own interpretations as to what it indicates.

heres what I can estimate from the picture:

- each group of three chips probably draws 30-60W  assuming 30A-rated components like seen in most designs (both bitfury and bitmain used the 30A TPS53355 regulator and the same inductor i can see in this image).  I would assume that each chip is able to draw up to 15W but this depends on operaing voltage (anyone have this spec?)

- assuming 12GH/chip is still correct, that's about 1w/GH in the shown configuration, possible with the ability to overclock further at a loss to efficiency

- 24 chips per single PCI-e power jack. assuming reasonable loads on power supply cables it would be unwise for this board to consume more than 250W without a risk that cheap wires will melt.  that means 10W/chip, or under 1w/GH

1986  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) Batch 4 is open for sale on: May 03, 2014, 03:14:23 PM
She's dead Jim.

I had one card throwing X's so I decided to crack open the case and take a look. I had to drill out one fo the screws and bumped the power cord out. (I was planning to leave it on in case I didn't see anything wrong inside and avoid possible reboot SD problems.) Okay, finished opening it, checked the boards. A few needed to be reseated, although I guess it most of them still had some kind of connection because only on board had X's before I opened it up (was hashing around 900). Plug back in and nothing. No fan, no blue screen, just cold and dead. Flip the power switch a few times, unplug and plug a few times. Still dead.

I guess I'll try swapping the PSU?

how long was ur PSU off?

these 1000w things have a 10-15 minute safety feature where it wont power up...

I waited around 20 minutes to see if it would reset, but it didn't. I'm pretty sure the problem was a loose power cable inside.

Quote
they replaced a dead 1000w with another dusty and dented 1000w enermax that had been shorted on the wrong side - purple & grey....

Sigh. I guess I'll just use one of my own PSUs. Pretty annoying since its not like the ROI on this thing is so great, but I guess I get to keep the PSU at the end. Right at 3 years of mining (multiple rigs) on my oldest AX1200...

sounds like yours has a PSU that might just barely not be able to run the stock speeds properly.

If I were you, swap in the 1200W PSU (this likely means taking out 7-8 of the asic boards for access) and use it to overclock to ~1100GH.   Take the 1000W PSU and use it on your other miners instead.  You can always switch back in a few months when the time comes to underclock for 0.8W/GH speeds

Wow over 100Deposits Smiley Only 3rd round. Need to buy more advertising.

coindesk article did it - you just need to be mentioned by news sites and the crowds will come
1988  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: BTC Pile - Same Old Game Different Name on: May 03, 2014, 03:06:18 PM
This game rules ive made over a whole BTC!!!!

did you? about 10hrs ago it seemed like i was competing directly with 1 or 2 players who would drop all the new 'deposits' every time a block solved and thier previous winnings returned.

I made a nice tidy profit and walked away - every single 'investment' returned and the ones since have been sitting unpaid for some time Tongue

3 more antminer S1 units came in today - 4.5TH Smiley

however, 1 unit arrived with a lot of thermal paste leakage, and another took damage to the capacitor (see pic below).

Nice setup, can you advice whats you using on side of S1? is it wooden board or plexi glass ?

a few units i cut out some thin cardboard (the type for frozen pizza boxes) in the right shape to  fit well on the gap of the antminer and try to improve the airflow going through the entire length. It works, but I really want to make myself some exact measurements and make more of them properly using thicker cardboard or even some very thin plywood/plastic that will be less flimsy.

the satck of 3 units just has a big box lid pressed against it, held in place by the power supplies. it does a nice job at getting the temperatures down slightly. I plan to add to these stacks a little bit soon once i figure out some more power supplies that use PCIe cables (since when stacked the screw terminals are inaccessible)

1991  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) Batch 4 is open for sale on: May 03, 2014, 04:56:04 AM
My batch two S2 started frequently powering off a couple of days ago. I replaced the crap Enermax with a Corsair AX1200i that I had running 3 Singles. So far it's been running great. I also got my FrankenJup up to 2.8THs with a little extra work. I'm now enjoying a cocktail in the hot tub. It's been a good day for a change.  Cool

if you have 1200W try overclocking - you can proabbly get another 50-100GH without any cooling modifications
1992  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: BTC Pile - Same Old Game Different Name on: May 03, 2014, 04:39:30 AM
it definitely works!

the 0.3 BTC question is though: how many people will lose, and when will the deposits stop coming and the payouts stop leaving?  Grin

over 6BTC through in the last 5 hours - that means 0.6BTC of the most recent investors will lose thier shirts (other than the one who snipes last)
1993  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: May 03, 2014, 01:59:46 AM
First post. Don't hate.

This isn't super scalable but its an idea I came up with and im trying to see if I want to pull the trigger and make it.

let me know what you think. CRITICS welcome.

Thanks.

Limitations & Constraints:
Garage environment with very limited floor space.
window for exhaust, Separate window for inlet
CANNOT HEAT THE GARAGE whatsoever.
CANNOT LEAVE DOOR OPEN
Must filter air

Goals:
Divide all air so that no video card is getting air that has been heated by other components.
Reasonable airflow for low noise
100% filtered,
Positive pressure

Basic concept:
__________________
-----Exhaust------
---------8 Cards--
_______\________
- 8 Cards--\------
__________\_____
----------/-------
-- FAN--/--FAN---
________________
---AIR FILTERS---
________________

Air starts at the bottom, Passes through the fans.
It is then segregated, One fan feeds the lower most cards, The other fan feeds the upper most cards.
The air is continued to be segregated until the top rack where the top cards exhaust their heat.
The air is then piped out of a window.

Pictures:!:!!: ! E@ E!@ f adgfasdf;lja

my 2c:   go with 12 cards instead of 16. you can get 6 per mobo with windows 8, thus eliminating the need for two mobo/ram/cpu/hdd assmeblies, simplifying the control/monitoring, and allow all 12 cards to fit on a single shelf.

ps: dont forget to consider monitor placement for WHEN you need direct access

4.5+ Terrahashes. Not clearly seen is 4 units in stacking crates to the left side (these are for sale in the Toronto area, by the way - trying to offload the crates for cheap to avoid tearing them down to go on shelves) plus an S2 on the bottom shelf

Right now i am running it with the capacitor pulled off fully (cleanly removed, it practically fell off on its own when i reached in to grab it out with a pair of tweezers) and 16 of the chips on that board show 'x' and the hashrate of the unit (stock clocks) is 155GH.  Rebooting is a crapshoot of anything from all 36 working down to only 2 or 3 working.

should be a clean and easy fix monday - I dont trust my precision soldering enough to DIY a small component, and my base of operations has someone capable
1996  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] - Toronto, ON -400GHash - 2x Antminer S1 + power supply in stacking crate on: May 03, 2014, 01:43:51 AM
TWO OF THESE CRATES STILL AVAILABLE FOR LOW PRICE!

I run most of my new equipment on shelving for easy access, and these crates are starting to conflict with that.

I would sell these crates as-is since they work well, stack well, carry easily, and are already powered - then to tear them apart and likely not even use the same power supplies since I have larger ones like a DPS-2000 available for use.

price in OP is updated, and will update every few days until sold.

1997  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Server PSU for Antminer S1, step by step guide. on: May 03, 2014, 12:53:26 AM
Although this is easier and faster than epoxy.

nice job! questions though (after a mediocre and slow job of soldering my own similar work)

-how do you link your (4AWG?) cable to all the (16awg?) smaller lines? Is it a crimped connector or are they somehow soldered?
-how do you tighten your lugs? In the photos it seems like only one would have an accessible screw.
--it looks like you screwed the lug to the PSU connector?

finally - what sort of airflow do these need from the 120mm fans you use?  I connected some low-speed 60mm fans to mine but past 1300w it overheats and switches off
1998  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Setup & Troubleshoot] Bitmain AntMiner S1 180GH/S miner on: May 03, 2014, 12:47:11 AM
so I had a miner show up today with one of its capactiors knocked out of whack. (The right-most, slightly smaller capacitor in the row of three found above/between each 'segment' of the PCB)

When I power on the unit, the green hashing light is and stays lit up (the secondary board isnt, as is normal). once hashing it flickers as usual.

the software will recognize only some of the chips at startup - anything from 2 to all 32. (right now it registers 16 and i can deal with that). the x'd chips are from all 4 segments.

The capacitor came off cleanly, and I hope to get it soldered back on first thing next week by someone with a bit more talent for the iron than I have. (id likely desolder a nearby component by accident). Right now I get 135GH with stock clocks (ie: 45GH for the working 16 chips)

Juan

A year? What hardware BTC miner remains viable for a year?

The S2 might last quite some time, assuming in a few months it could lower to 800GH and achieve ~0.8W/GH to remain competitive. low electricity costs and a rise in BTC value would help
2000  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Antminer S1 Sales open] Price changes daily, now 0.55 BTC for 180GH/s on: May 01, 2014, 04:56:23 AM
Just an idea for BITMAIN:  Grin

Antminer S3 (or S1.1 - whichever floats your boat)
4 boards from antminer S1 units, with undervolted resistors and shorter heatsinks, arranged as such:         |==||==|
each board is identical to antminer S1, but undervolted slightly to produce ~70GH per board at ~90W.
This gives 280GH/360W and could probably be deigned to still fit the 120mmx120mm bracket  (or a 140mm fan and bracket?)
use a slightly better control board capable of handling 4 blades instead of just two.

all the benefits of using a working design, a working method of shipment, 50% hashing improvement for the same wattage, and would play well with everyone who is using thier own power supplies
