1241  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Black Friday Deals 0.409USD/GH/s, FREE International Shipping on: December 11, 2014, 06:08:37 PM
Ok so Bitmain has stopped single sales of S4's , only pallets of 16 left. And the current coupons expire on the 15th.  Maybe they are going to start sales of the S5 on Monday? 1Th  $375-400 750PSU needed is my guess. Any takers?

Single B2 sales of S4 available on Bitmain site again. Could they be dumping remaining S4 stock for S5 release since FC announced their new chip today?

Still likely 50 days away from chips in hand and longer for miners. Its a bit premature to post that stage of chip testing, unless he went on the chip orders without seeing test results which is really unlikely.

my guess is the S5 will be just a lot more chips jammed into the S3 size, such that they run around 600Gh/400W, at basically the same price as the S3+ right now. Its unlikely they will have a next-gen chip for some time, probably similar timeframe (jan/feb) as both spondoolies and asicminer
1242  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Miner for beginner on: December 11, 2014, 06:05:17 PM
I am looking for a miner for my husband for Christmas. He is very curious to see how the process works. He really isn't concerned about making any money. I was thinking about spending about $100. Thoughts?

best bet is an antminer S3, but thats more in the range of $200 plus youll need a 550W+ power supply.

if you just want something small that wont make any real money - you can get something thats connected by USB such as an r-box or block erupter stick (these are $10-30)
1243  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: big mistake on electrical compents order please help need cheapest fix on: December 11, 2014, 05:47:23 PM
You could buy screw-on ends of the proper type, cut the old ends off and wire the proper onto the existing cords.

You could resell the cords and buy new.

You could buy a sack of wire nuts, cut all the ends off and hardwire everything.

You could buy a 6-20 socket to replace the wall outlet and work from that.

You could invent time travel?

all of these are valid.

The cords you have dont match the outlets - there isnt really a cheap solution to this besides re installing the correct outlet or buying the correct cord
1244  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ASICMiner BE300S Samples Arrived, <0.2W/G Achieved at Board Level on: December 11, 2014, 03:07:36 AM
I hope that AM sticks to just selling the chips and not making miners again. Amazing how bad the Prisma experience was...
It was a strategic mistake to switch to chips only, that's why AM started producing be200 based devices (tubes/prismas).  You should expect miners and chips to be available with be300

+1. nobody knows better how to design a PCB than the guys who design the chips. Relying on 3rd party groups (technobit for example) to invest in prototype boards for multiple chip types simultaneously is less likely to get an ideal resulting design - ie the series-based design for voltage control, exactly what bitfury managed to do
1245  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: 24" PCI-E cables with 16AWG wires and 6" 18awg splitters - great for server PSU on: December 10, 2014, 08:54:38 PM
Plenty of cables still in stock- these are perfect for running sp20 units, which can demand over 250w per pcie cable

Hello Klondike_bar,
I sent you PM - with no response from you.
I need 16 AWG cable with 6-pin PCI connectors on each side.
How much will it be?

sorry, thought i got back to you already. I dont have any of those in stock, but am getting a pile of them in my next batch (should be in my hands just before christmas)

they will be slightly more expensive, about $0.20/cable more  for most order quantities
1246  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: 24" PCI-E cables with 16AWG wires and 6" 18awg splitters - great for server PSU on: December 10, 2014, 08:52:21 PM
UPDATE REGARDING COMPATIBILITY WITH IBM POWEREDGE 2100W PSU:

Ive recently picked up one of these beast supplies, and been able to use my cables with it by simply adding some quick-disconnect fittings to my cables. This allows 8 cables on a single 2100W supply, or effectively 250w/PCIe (which is well within operating range for these 16awg wires).

only issue is that the connectors on the supply have a slight taper, and the quick disconnects can pull off if not careful. This is easily fixed with the application of some JB weld or similar metal epoxy. I'll have pictures up soon - the final product (including a layer of liquid electrical tape) looks clean and professional, and the method for jumpring the PSU to turn on is simply connecting 3 pins (5min solder job). Its possible to convert this ~$30 used PSU into a 2000W+ beast for only $30 in materials and maybe 30min of your time (less if you are doing a few simultaneously)

time for pics!

note that the pins for always-on are not yet shorted, but its easy to do.

Hello!

To Johny Depp and similar trolls:
hey - yoiu have time to be on the forums, can you post a picture of the hardware you are operating?
1248  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] CLOUDMINR.IO Mining contracts || 0.0013 BTC / GHS on: December 10, 2014, 12:28:36 AM
But here is still no proof.. this is just what you think.

It's up to the service operator to provide evidence of their legitimacy, not potential customers to prove the service is a scam. Any cloud mining service that refuses to provide any evidence of their legitimacy should simply be assumed to be a scam.
+1. a lack of proof that its a scam is far less concerning than a lack of proof it isnt a scam

1250  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Black Friday Deals 0.409USD/GH/s, FREE International Shipping on: December 10, 2014, 12:18:16 AM
Just a note,

I under clocked  S4, running 0650 and 125 pulling 690 at the wall hashing 1195 avg .  All is well, Sound much lower.  Of course the C1 is much quieter than either the S3 or the S4.

Also I am having trouble with the Ethernet connection on the S4, sometimes when I reboot it comes up with 127.0.0.1.  But is showing not lights on the connector.  A wiggle or two will get it going along with a reboot..  If I bump the cable while it is running it will start beeping and quit mining.  Again wiggle it.  I have not had time to look into it further, but that is a problem going forward

Barbara

your issue might be a loose sd card getting jostled by vibrations through the ethernet port (just a guess).

why do you underclock it by the way? Unless you pay >25c/kwh there is more profit in running at full speed while the difficulty stays low
1251  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: December 09, 2014, 01:35:05 AM
To summarize: The Trezor is the safest and easiest to operate bitcoin wallet of today.
+1
If you want to store more than 5BTC and/or want something better than a paper wallet for long-term storage, the trezor is a good deal to secure your bitcoins.
1252  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] CLOUDMINR.IO Mining contracts || 0.0013 BTC / GHS on: December 08, 2014, 10:59:25 PM
Here some questions:

a) Do you have a telephone number?
b) Your domain has been registered by a "Tom Hassel" in Norway. There is indeed one Tom Hassel in Norway. When contacted, he didn't know anything about cloudminr. So where could Tom Hassel be found?
c) You write in one post: "cloudminr.io is a Norwegian cloud mining company". However, there is no company registered by this name in Norway. Please explain.
d) The only company in Trondheim with any connection to "Cloud" is a company which is active in candy import.
e) You claim in the registry data that you are located at Olaf Tryggvasonsgate 2B in Trondheim. Nobody at this address knows anything about you or your operation. Please explain.

Should people feel safer with a phone number and an LLC, that is possible to do. However, it would be just as credible as having an email. A phone is a few dollars as well as a registering a company doesn't take longer than week.

Our goal is not to convince people that we are real by creating companies that we won't use. We want people to see the way we operate, pictures of hardware and income that is not calculated by an algorithm unlike many have, while keeping a certain level of privacy. Would you post your facebook account alongside with your bitcoin address, signed? Rarely anyone would.

Many transparent Bitcoin companies have failed - how many people have got their money back? Exactly.
Not going all public with your business idea that tax office doubts while also not being a citizen lowers the chance of failure, while historically, results of failure don't change regardless of transparency.

It is nice to see people care about things like that but in the end, it often just doesn't work that way.

this is very meaningful for a lot of reasons.
1) it demonstrates that cloudminer.io is not interested in sharing any identification or being transparent
2) since a month ago they have not done anything of what is bolded above
3) they value privacy - a legitimate entity does not worry about privacy, and strives for transparency instead
4) They claim setting up a phone line and a business is easy - have not done so.

at this point there is still no evidence of:
a) who owns or is employed by cloudminr.io
b) any actual hardware or facility or collateral/capital
c) an address, if even in Norway
d) a registered business name in Norway
e) any sort of regulatory compliance or insurance of the hardware (if the building burns down - noone will get money back)

It seems obvious that ALL of these should be made public, yet none of it is. all they are is a website that took 100% upfront, and promises to pay you back >150% over the first year, and then for another 4 years with zero fees. Anyone that doesn't see why this perfectly fits the definition of a ponzi scheme is welcome to give them money.

at this rate, expect me back here in 2-3 months saying i told you
1253  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: December 08, 2014, 10:41:59 PM
But you have been bashing the same arguments since July...  The first time, I can understand, but repeating the same thing over and over again...

Well, many Trezor customers and prospective customers do not seem to be aware of that risk yet.   And I am not sure that the SatoshiLabs people are aware of the risk that they incur by tacitly approving the re-selling of their Trezors.

seriously? If they forebode reselling im sure craigslist would still have some.

the trezor is well-built. A knockoff requires some serious dedication and isnt even a remote concern if you just buy directly from buytrezor.com

far more likely:
1) printers with custom firmware to recognise bitcoin addresses/QR codes when printing, and push that data to a server
2) casascius or any other coins being opened up with precision and solvents, private key copied, then sealed shut again for resales. Or even the creator keeping a copy of all private keys
3) an android/windows/ios/ANY wallet software that was downloaded from the wrong site or updated to a malicious version
4) a webwallet that is hacked or otherwise steals privkey data.
5) virus or malware that seeks and steals any wallet info, or even QR codes from your print/documents history, and pulls the funds out.

someone creating an exact replica of the trezor and its (quality) box that its shipped in, plus valid serial numbers, plus making it match the MD5 hash..... you are pulling at straws. IMO the trezor is 100% the safest option right now outside of operating an isolated offline system with an offline printer, using it to sign txs, copying the signed tx to a USB, then sending the signed transactions from an online system
1254  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Avalon4 (A3222, 28nm, ~25GHS, ~0.6W/G) sample chips available here: EHash.com on: December 08, 2014, 10:27:19 PM
Nice power consumption if accurate. Price though .. 2 BTC after shipping for 1thash.

19.19BTC for 10 units - so yeah. Thats about $750/TH shipped

compare:
SP20: $850 shipped, or about $430/TH

this product wont go anywhere fast unless it can come down a lot in price.
1255  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Custom Rigs... Hardware on: December 08, 2014, 10:23:27 PM
i can buy a 10 pack of rigs from the pharmacy for $3
thanks - but while you are busy shooting up your comment is useless to the conversation

...and those rigs are not 'custom'
1256  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Black Friday Deals 0.409USD/GH/s, FREE International Shipping on: December 08, 2014, 02:09:15 PM
This is very frustrating and I need help, I look online and every thing says to un-zip the files, then burn them to a SD card.  Here Dogie says to just burn "initramfs.bin.SD-20141016.tar.gz"  file with Win32 Disk.  I have tried and tried with both the S4 and the C1 nothing works. just fan playing very loud.

Does someone have an card image I can just copy to my SD card.

I live in the Seattle wa area and I am willing to pay some BC to someone who can get this going.  I have written to Bitmain, but still waiting for answers.  I have 3.5 tb of hashing currently with 3 tb sitting around doing nothing

Who should I talk to??

Barbara

1) download he latest https://www.bitmaintech.com/support.htm?pid=00720140930114518599JXGHWWD80660    (which you arrantly have)
2) buy a new class 10 SD card (microSD i beleive for the S4). often the original SD becomes irrepairably corrupted during power cycles or circuit trips.
3) use SDFormatter https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/    wipe the SD clean
4) etract the file initramfs.bin.SD from the .tar.gz download (use winrar)
5) copy this file to the SD using win32 disk imager.

this should work - i dont think the other files in that folder are necessary unless doing the upgrae via the s4 web interface. all you need in your case is that .bin.sd file within.
1257  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: USING 30amp DRYER pLUG and 6-20r connectors 240v help on: December 08, 2014, 01:45:32 PM
This is my suggestion, and assumes that you or a friend are capable of safe, reasonably simple electrical work:

1) if you want to use the PDU, you will have to swap the outlet for an L6-30. Pretty much any and every PDU uses it.  (208V and 240V are effectively the same function and polarity, most stuff is rated 200-250V). This is pretty simple and will cost about $220 total ($150 for PDU and $30 for the outlet, plus tax/shipping/etc).

2) use the 6-20 connectors. These are pretty easy to wire up, and are the same layout as the exsing dryer plug (each blade is a live wire, ground is the pin). you could get a gangbox that fits two outlets and wire it quite easily. you might need an extra foot of 30A wiring to set the receptacles up in parallel, and make sure you clearly mark them as being limited to a total of 30A. (In fact, I would limit them to 13A each to give some headroom). Cost is around $40 ($10 per receptacle, $10 gangbox/cover, taxes, etc)

1258  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: (WTS) Bitmain Antminer S4-B2 on: December 07, 2014, 07:18:07 PM
With coupon I can buy one shipped for 960.  Can you do better then that I would be interested.

you will pay COD and taxes on that though.

Nope. No tax importing tech to USA. That's clean shipped to the door.

seriously? i had to pay 13% HST on most hardware imports to Ontario
1259  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: December 07, 2014, 07:07:34 PM
Received a DOA unit today. All it does is stay at that high pitched fan noise and doesn't connect to the network. I'd love to troubleshoot, but the lack of information is holding me back. Can I manually flash the firmware some how without accessing the unit via IP? Is there a hard reset button somewhere?
There is a serious problem here. I re-flash my rig back to defaults and now it is only hashing at 500GH/s.
Why can't these fucking things just work? Looks like I'm definitely going to RMA this paperweight back.
These were the pool settings that were in the rig before I had a chance to even flash it.

The unit was not DOA based on the photo you provide. It clearly operated at spec for over 3min, with the default pools being part of the installed firmware. You re-flashed it with a different firmware and now it is half-working.
1260  Economy / Goods / Re: GIVE AWAY TIME !!! on: December 07, 2014, 06:23:29 PM

What about the shipping? Can it be shipped internetionally?

Yes of course! you can choose your country when you go to checkout !  Smiley

Those prices are pretty good. How much extra do you charge for international shipping on average?

cheapest for a single shirt to Canada : $15
most expensive: $60

nooope. If it was <$8 total i might get a shirt, but this isnt a give away
