Yes, gets my vote! - tho if we are going to re-brand the rest of the wallet (colour scheme, font and style all need heavily updating to a light, minimalist, prof. theme) no more black / dark "Hacker" theme - sends entirely the wrong message :/

Really like this: https://ibb.co/d54rZw  Shocked

Whilst I cant say i'm a massive fan of the logo on the metal background the one with clean lines and a while background looks brilliant! - kinda like a key or a Tie - both things we want to associate with the project imo Smiley

A logo re-brand will do CBX the world of good, also quite like the bullion text with the =b being a little bit Bitcoin'ie - further hinting at the Crypto element...

Fantastic stuff Smiley

Did the memory leak issue when staking get fixed? Its a very old issue however it would be a real shame if its still in there upon release...

Yes, this was a tough issue with Vault 2; being a completely new codebase for Vault 3, so far it is running at a stable 500 megs RAM requirement. Public testing will be the final test to positively conclude if this problem is finally eradicated, but I'm pretty sure we won't see it again.

ooooh, 500MB you say Shocked I feel a Raspberry Pi based staking node coming on... Cheesy

Morning all

As the snow falls here in England I was clearing out some old documents and I came across the following I (believe) I posted a while back - possibly as a PM, its still relevant and certainly something I would like to see added to the CBX roadmap - so here it is again, open for discussion:

Quote
There is a fair amount of ‘super wallet anxiety’ in the crypto world, the issue being amplified when dealing with a coin with a limited supply (such as CBX) as at any time (most likely when the price starts to rise) a super wallet owner could dump their collection on an exchange and walk off with everyone's money, crashing the price in the process. I would like to believe that the majority of CBX holders at this point are in it for the long haul, the trouble is there is no way (currently) of knowing what a super wallet owner is planning to do in the future...

To solve this I would like to propose the addition of a publicly verifiable (block-chain based) voluntary fund locking mechanism for individual wallet addresses. The idea being that someone who has a large (or small) collection of coins can selectively ‘time lock’ a portion of their total wallet’s contents for a defined period of time; the amount chosen is then totally un-spendable until the period chosen by the user expires. This period could be weeks, months or even years but provides a literally unbreakable public, verifiable contract that n coins cannot be moved for x time. New coins can be still be transferred into this ‘locked’ address but not removed - providing a secure ‘savings’ account that can still accumulate the 2% interest but not be moved or spent.

The key to all of of this is making it publicly verifiable on the block chain, so if you were a new investor in CBX you would look at the total supply but also (crucially) you would look at the total supply that was still liquid/unlocked. If you are a super wallet holder (lucky you!) you could lock your coins away for a set period to encourage investment by others and perhaps even get a slightly higher rate of interest on the locked coins than on free floating ones.

Apologies if you have seen this before BUT as I say I still think it could go a long way to alleviating super wallet anxiety if and when CBX is considered a long term / stable commodity that other might choose to invest in Smiley

Hey VP, thanks for the update Smiley - but I (personally) don't agree this the logic here...

The coinswap represents a highly valuable opportunity to move away from the slow, bloated and somewhat broken blockchain CBX currently implements - to update the client with modern (SECURE) code base and set CBX on a firm footing for the future should be the primary goal here. Just because a single (granted our only) exchange won't support the coin if we swap should not (ever) dictate the technical direction of the  implementation of the coin - the code/blockchain at the end of the day is all that matters, and if it's not sound CBX has no future.

With a coinswap, new code base, clean client and fluid blockchain (you can sync from the Gen block to the latest) we should re-approach a number of key exchanges and diversify our market penetration. What if our only exchange implodes in 3 months time?

Just my two sense, but if we bend to the will of a singular corporate entity that is in this game to solely make money what does that say about CBX, it's values and the attitudes toward decentralisation that any investor will questionnaire before placing buy orders that will drive it's value upward.

If there is going to be a swap / hard fork / new chain / etc then lets make sure the new chain can cleanly sync from block zero to present without issue - downloading a bootstrap database file has security implications - better to allow the coin to sync from start to finish, it may take a while but if CBX is worth $2000+ USD some day a BIG chink the security model will be that bootstrap auto downloader / inability to sync solely from peers...

Master nodes should be exactly that, individuals with large holdings locking their funds away and being rewarded for their sacrifice, we don't need 500 master-nodes on the network, we need enough to ensure that no one multi-node bag holder can have a monopoly over all others for any significant sequence of blocks. If you don't have enough for a master-node then just stake your coins, if you do have enough then either hold and sell when the price is right or lock them away for a monthly return.

I voted for 10k in the poll which is wayy more then I own - i'm never going to run a master node - I am going to stake when ever I have the opportunity and be grateful for the income.

Running a master node should not be the defacto node type on the network, hundreds of active stakers should be imo Smiley

Hey Belacoin

Sooo... 1495 blocks later and the difficult adjustment is still locking up for 12 or so hours every x blocks, looking at the code you chose a 24 block rolling average?

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/bela/#@diff

Also can you update the code on your Git repo for Belacoin - granted the source is available in zip format for download at https://github.com/TheAmbiaFund/Belacoin/releases but the repo itself makes no mention of the new DGW code modifications...

Cheers

I don't want to be a party pooper but chainz.cryptoid.info/bela/ has not reported a new block in 4 hours 8 minutes - and beladgw.com is reliant on new block being reported from this site...

Bela the dog is stuck!

Has the block chain got stuck or is chainz.cryptoid.info a bit unwell?

Ah hang on, the difficulty has gone up 4 fold on the last block - if only we had a different difficulty scaling algorithm... - oh... wait :p

If we are going for a new more modern interface can we drop the hacker'y dark theme and go for something that looks clean and modern?

For example:

https://i.ytimg.com/vi/rPr_IIwToak/maxresdefault.jpg

White background, subtle watermarks and their blue theme. It's clean, elegant and looks highly professional - something an outside investor would have no concerns in about investing in...

Or, if the dark theme has to persist check out this wallets interface:

Black/Gold color llimited color pallette, clean font and everything is just very crisp Smiley

Is speed all that essential for a store of wealth? Have you ever tried moving gold arround? It's not quick. CBX is not, and has never been setup to be a currency (there an almost infinite number of those now) - surley transaction times are not top of the list if it results in blockchain bloat... Smiley

FR

I understand you perfectly FR, my point however is that we have speed now, why abandon that if not necessary.

Blockchain bloat has a workable solution at this time and we will be improving that further with the upcoming fork. The new Vaults will have the memory usage issue solved and will incorporate the 1-click solution bootstrap installer directly into them. All a new or old non-synced user would need to do is click a button in their Vault to download the most recent updated blockchain bootstrap.

Hey elambert

Thanks for the response, fair enough - just keen to see CBX be as good as it can be Smiley Looking forward to the update - happy to make some more splash screen art if you want Cheesy

Thanks VS, great stuff! I personally like option 1 (snip)

I like better option 2. 2.75% inflation is still low by today's altcoin standards, and people have to be rewarded well enough, if we want them to actually lock in some CBX to help the CBX network as masternode. Having the current low 1.5% - 2% yearly inflation has not helped CBX gain traction so far, because reward is so low.

i disagree its not lack of excitement over inflation, most of the dedicated stakers are doing so because they want to support the network not stake crazy amounts to dump every day.  The idea of CBX as a store of value is more important then being produced generate more coins every day.  When the value of CBX goes up so does the value of those returns on staking so it not necessary to try to compensate for it now by increasing the annual amount of coins created.   Also there little value in have stakers that are only interested in a quick return, the focus should be on long term holders and stakers and improving the wallet and network for them. (eg: optimizng the wallet, fixing bugs, updating the base code with newer btc source)

and if it is just about a psychological effect then you can do this with option 1 and then change the block time target so they evenly spaced out to be at least 2-3 minutes apart or even 4-6 minutes apart instead of the current where we can have multiple blocks within the same minute with any spacing out, and then increase the block reward to stay within 2% inflation.  This would kill 2 birds with one stone, a higher reward per block and the increase in blockchain bloat/size from new blocks could be reduced by at least 50% which is important to keep CBX PoSP decentralized by ensuring anyone can run a node on minimal hardware.

There also the memory issue that still need to be resolved, an issue with they how the wallet is not orphaning blocks when a wallet splits off from the network, this prevents it reconnecting and adopting the longest chain that other nodes are on and leads to downtime as we have to take the wallet offline and resync from our last backup or snapshot.   I've had to do this twice in the last month.

I would also suggest looking at adoption or reworking the Blackcoin code as this is most advanced and most stable PoS coin of all imho.  There is not that much difference between the effects on supply of Blackcoin PoS3.0 vs PoSP except that PoSP uses an interest rate instead of set reward.

I would suggest looking at a complete rebase to blackcoin code and then make the changes required to continue with the existing CBX blockchain and provide a more stable environment for us CBX stakers. ( I also run BLK node alongside CBX node, and it uses alot less memory and never have issues with needing to resync/getting cut off from network etc)

I voted option 1 as well.

Very much inline with my thoughts digit Smiley

Hey all

Master nodes may work for CBX, however I would first focus on fixing the current blockchain so it downloads / synchronises in a reasonable amount of time / at all - the bootstrap file is a nice work around but it makes everything look somewhat broken / un-managed if you have to do anything but install it and leave it to sync.

Connectivity is an issue for sure; master nodes will help here but the amount of CPU churn the wallet imparts on the hosting machine is crazy high - especially as the CBX network is currently processing a tiny fraction of the total number of transactions that it may one day be processed if CBX's profile raises considerably.

I would highly recommend:

Snapshot the current chain, hard fork, re-start the block index from zero, adapt the code base of one of the other POS coins in existence that synchronise correctly end to end (headers first certainly improved the bitcoin blockchain download) and re-implement PoSV2 on top. You will consolidate the source, gain all of the various security fixes and start fresh from a known good state.

After all that we will have a fast, efficient syncing coin - supported by master nodes that anyone can download and synchronise without additional support Smiley
