21  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 5 GPU Miner on: May 08, 2013, 02:36:40 AM
More information - Board, gpus, psu.  All 5 show up in device manager?

Reason I ask for hardware is because some Motherboards come with 5 pci x16/x1 but will shut off one of them if 4 are being used already.  sometimes with 3 and even 2.  So list your specs.
22  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What's with value of Alts today? on: May 07, 2013, 02:15:38 PM
You guys should create another alt coin to throw all your miners at, this will make you feel better.  Trust me.
23  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to pick a doomed Altcoin [hint pick FTC, CNC, TRC, BitBar, RUC] on: May 07, 2013, 03:39:58 AM
OK, it has finally hit the point where we are seeing 1-3 new altcoins every week.
For any other software project Id argue this is a great thing but for crypto currencies its a terrible thing.

First let me start by showing some good examples of altcoins:

* litecoin - not the first to add scrypt but most successful.
* ppcoin - a genuine innovation on bitcoin protocol.

Now let me show what I consider to be bad altcoins:

* CNC
* RUC
* TRC
* BitBar
* FTC

Russiacoin and Chinacoin are transparent attempts to make money of patriots and nationalists with more money than common sense (most of them). For a coin to be official for a country it needs to be officially endorsed, not made by a script kiddy and supported by a rabbid circle jerk.

TRC & FTC - Mere tweaks of bitcoin and nothing more. The danger with this coins is that the developer/s often do not have the skills required to do more than tweak the settings and compile. Should  they come under attack (as TRC recently did) the devs may find themselves sorely tested until their breaking point. Every issue/ DoS exploit discovered in the bitcoin protocol is likely to be patched before anouncement or within the hour of said announcement. The much smaller dev teams for these altcoins have to race  to apply patches and test them against their tweaked (sometimes modified) bitcoin client resulting in a far greater window for an attacker to abuse.

Bitbar - the most transparent "Read Set Go Mine Mine Mine Mine Mine *FUCK OFF ITS NOT A PREMINE YOU HATER*" altcoin I have ever seen. Same applies to CNC.

Novacoin - to soon to tell, being a PoS system with scrypt does make it unique to the rest at this point, whether its enough to garner serious interest is another thing. The few services that do support have tumbleweeds rolling around. Novacoin did demonstrate the issue with doing a semi private release first.

Tips for creating a viable altcoin:

* Be a competent c++ programmer.
* Innovate - pick an issue bitcoin has and attempt to solve it like PoS.
* co-ordinate the release, dont announce it in your little sub forum and  then a week later to the rest of the world (bad karma).
* Set the initial difficulty very high, lest you want the same fiasco that CNC created with blocks being mined every 10 seconds by the devs. It should take a good sized pool 15min-1h to find your first block. Let the difficulty adjust naturally, dont low ball it for you and your early adopter buddies.
* Pre Announce its release, let people know its coming so they can be ready for it.
* Project MUST BE open source.

Great read, spot on, fully agree with entire write up.
24  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mincoin rises 50% today while feathercoin and chinacoin crash on: May 07, 2013, 03:34:37 AM
Check List of Alt-coins sticky by xorxor before doing anything. I almost invested in this, but then I read that some guy admitted that he had over 5% of all coins, so no thanks

There's only 1 million in circulation so far and this coin has the lowest creation rate of any coin - this isn't something to be concerned about.

I think he means 5% of all coins that will ever be created :p

Ahhh I see - well it is still less coins than say the US owns in USD  Tongue

Horrible logic, I hope you were kidding.
25  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / 3 7950 GPU 19 or 20 intensity on: May 06, 2013, 07:52:20 PM
If I run all 3 at 20 intensity I get driver errors and the 3rd gpu will never mine at all, the first 2 will.
If I run all 3 at 19 intensity it's perfectly fine, pulling in about 580 hash per card.  I'd rather have the 630 hash per card I get with the first 2.
If I run the first 2 at 20 intensity and the 3rd at 13 intensity I'm fine.

What does that sound like?

I have a 1000w Seasonic I paid $250 for.

I checked the Mobo voltages and the PCIe is getting 1.8v alone, that was stock.

Any ideas?
Thanks.
26  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Banks- Correct me if I'm wrong. on: May 06, 2013, 06:50:00 PM
There's nothing wrong with a bank, just banks connected to a federal reserve of some sort?

24/7 private vaults for example is a 100% anonymous bank.

Why not develope a BTC vault?
27  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / WTB more alt currencies so more miners leave my pool and difficulty drops. on: May 05, 2013, 11:27:29 PM
Yes please.
28  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: inflation coins on: May 05, 2013, 11:13:08 PM
It's always a frenzy when new technology comes out.  Eventually it will reach the point when people ignore new currencies.  It will probably happen after atleast 100 alts have come out.
29  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The rise of alternative cryptocurrencies on: May 05, 2013, 10:59:18 PM
Bitcoin was the pioneer, every new industry has one.  There's nothing wrong with it.  People still like yahoo, myspace and mp3 players.  We are bound to have improvements in crypto technology.
30  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Has anyone else noticed that the Litecoin network hashrate has dropped 50% on: May 05, 2013, 04:05:10 PM
Makes me so happy Smiley  I'm mining way more coins now and I hope more alts keep popping up and dragging away all the dolts.

Why are you buying something that techni cally isn't even a coin and gets destroyed during each transaction?
32  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitBar the Hero of Bitcoin and Hammer to The creation of new AlT-coins on: May 05, 2013, 04:25:40 AM
Bitbat is just an alt currency bud.
33  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CNC going to Zerg rush BTC'toss/LTC'terran on: May 04, 2013, 08:43:33 PM
I just want to point out that Google is banned from China for allowing them to search anything.

You guys honestly believe their government will allow them to trade currency under the table tax free.

Hrmm.
34  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How many people stop mining in the summer? on: May 03, 2013, 06:34:11 PM
I use water cooling, strapped to the copper-pipe going into my hot-water tank and sprinkers and tapped into my pool-pump/hot-tub...

Free hot water, lower AC bills, lower electric bills (higher heat = higher resistance = more power consumed)...

Not to mention the hot air is all pumped into the attic, where the 150F GPU air is cooler than the 212F+ attic-air.

That is called ghetto geo-thermal cooling... lol... the cool water coming from underground is a constant 65F here. And I drink coffee all day long, and flush, and shower, and filter the pool, so cooling isn't lacking.

Hi Isawhim,

I think your concept is great. I actually believe that the future of mining (especially on GPUs) is dependant on our ability to recycle some of the heat lost.
I'm working on a new 24 GPU rack project (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=191117.0) and I will experiment with oil cooling in a few weeks. You can find details about the oil cooling option here: https://forum.litecoin.net/index.php/topic,2682.msg18234.html#msg18234
My idea to optimize the heat recycling is to use an Oil/Water plate heat exchanger, which is very efficient and compact.

With the thermal capacity of the oil, one shower might be enough water flow to cool down a setup for 1 hour or two. If you had the pool (which will "never" go over 40C) you can truly reduce your electricity bill by a considerable amount by never having to warm it up again.
I started a list of potential applications that would allow for the recycling of the heat:

If you think about it, if we could recycle 80% of what's now lost, there would not be that much interest in the ASIC anymore.

Maybe I should sell the 24 GPU rack as a space/water heater ;-)

Your rig works in theory but in practice I don't see how you could possibly keep that cool.  I have each card 5 inches apart and if I get them closer then rise 5-10 degrees each.  That's with only 2 next to each other, if I put 3-5 near each other it goes up 20 degrees.  I think you should redesign it with an AC unit attached cause 24 cards is gonna cook toast.
35  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Your views on pre-mining? on: May 03, 2013, 04:42:20 AM
It's an interesting problem.  On one side, you have to generate interest.  This is done by offering the first comers a huge mining experience at first.  On the other side you have the people who claim it's premining and unfair, all coins should share difficulty from start to finish or atleast start much more difficult.  I really don't know where I stand, but I do know people are making a ton of money off these new alt coins.

You can generate interest through being innovative, and coming up with awesome new ideas for the coins.

The only reason that the current altcoin's need to be financially motivating with huge rewards to push people onto the coins is because there is zero innovation, and speculation is the only motivation for going to it.

I agree, the latter is better but the prior works.  I used to think it's a problem but I realize it's not.  That's what the free market is, it's what makes America great, that frenzy!  Eventually the frenzy will be over and a few great coins will emerge.  Hope you are invested in the right ones Wink

You can't do anything about it so who cares?

Pokemon cards make my mtg cards worth less....oh well?
38  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alt Crypots hurting prices? on: May 03, 2013, 03:35:12 AM
Listen, I'm not genius but even I know trade increases value.  If LTC FTC etc coin are gaining traction, these new comers are purchasing BTC to get into these coins.  They are driving the price up if anything....maybe BTC is supposed to be around 80-90 and thanks to all these alts, you enjoyed huge returns?
39  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Odd Issue with Radeon 7950 Mining on: May 02, 2013, 03:30:20 AM
Well, I have a Gigabyte Radeon 7950 on a fresh W7 Ent 64bit install, 13.1 drivers, GUIMiner Scrypt. Seems normal, right? Well, here's the problem.

I can only mine on the 7950 Low Usage setting.

I can increase the intensity but IF I increase the thread concurrency, it will not connect. This occurs for both CGMiner and Reaper. But for reaper, increasing the intensity above 13 causes mostly stale shares.

I still get around 350 Khs, but I should be getting much more obviously. Anybody else ever experience this? I have no ideas what to do.

Essentially, if I do not mine on low usage, it will not connect which makes no sense.

Thank you in advance!

With guiminer - CG miner

I'm getting 629hash with the default settings built into the software. (drop down menu)

7950 Gigabyte

You need to offer payment method of BTC/LTC.  How can you sell rigs and only take USD?
