21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: buying btc with xrp... on: August 22, 2017, 10:13:36 AM
Right now, i don't think i'd want anything to do with ripple yet. Though i'm holding xrps right now, it's really for long term i think. Better to focus on btc itself at the moment than other altcoins

I agee to focusing on btc and was thinking of flipping some naivly bought, unwanted, excess xrp for btc when its right...

22  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Aug 1 summary on: August 22, 2017, 10:03:53 AM
The Bitcoin Cash blockchain is currently operating at 7% of the original chain's difficulty.

It is currently 78.6% more profitable to mine on the Bitcoin Cash blockchain.

Fun huh?

yer, but there mainly btc redeems arn't they? I sit there at night watching streams and streams of small sub 1 bch sell orders go thru. There the exchanges dumping the ill-gots arn't they? The'll run out soon won't they?

My kids have been using satoshi for legit, for the last few years, they didn't know over 100 other coins existed and had not heard of nor would bother to try to understand the fork, all they see is the satoshi.

23  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Re: [HOW-TO] Export seed and private keys from your Bitcoin Wallet for Android on: August 22, 2017, 09:31:02 AM
thanks for you replies and offers, i got bitcore going fine but i think it the environment im asking bitabc to work in that might be proving a little hard for it...
Originally I put an 64bit amd 3.2 X2 with a pair of 4g ddr3 dual-channel sticks. It had boot prob's. The local curbside throw out was on so i went out and collected some the fewer and fewer boxs that are thrown out these days. Along the way I picked up my sons old sli-rigged AMD2.
I get home an three hours later I've rigged a work bench and test lab for the five box's I've got disassembled and spread around the living room.
3 hours later I've got an AMD3.2 rig running 6 gig of mis-matched ram at 667, but still its way faster than my old trojan lappy I usually do things on.
I load deb9 to it and none of my usb wifi's work. I spend a few hours stuffing with that, ie, nonfree, firmware etc.. Still can't get it up, I reload it with deb8, kernel it up to 9, sid it over and the usb wifi works. Great, the next day i plan to copy the block files over to it and load abc.
The next morning it refuses to start despite it hot and cold booting all the day before. I pull it down again, get it going, post to linuxquestions how much I hate uefi boot & fs4 and proceed to load abc.
My eldest son rings, his lost his car-keys in the sand at the beach 200K's away and he is on a tinder date, can I please rescue him. My youngest is in canada atm so I jump in his after-marketed 2H turboed highly-tuned 60series and line-drag the 4.6L Rangys up and down the highway to get his carkeys to him. That old but powerful 60's really has some grunt on the highway.
I get home and that darn machine wont boot again.... argghhh
I ditch the machine, look at ol-trojy, strip it's hdd and plug in a usb drive and load the same as above 'cause I've still got the same usb wifi.
Finally i get a machine and os going, albeit on a shared usb channel splitting the usb drive and usb wifi.
But still, ol-trojy handles it with only a minor performance hit.
Installing abc i did late at night, i was tired and my install folder was just plain wrong. I installed all the dependencies listed on the page just to be sure, copied the block files from one drive to another and fired it up.
Seemed to go ok, doing the same things as bitcore.
10 hours into it I remember to check the peer addys. I add a abc peer and i can now see other abc peers.
2 hours after that it gets to 99.79% and stays there for 10 hours. I restart it, it gets to 99.58 and stays there for hours. I restart it again and it does the same with even less percentage.
I remember reading it will sorta do this but is in fact working and I could confirm that by seeing network traffic in the help panel. So i leave it for another 30 hours, still nada and post here i failed.
I may be a bit pre-emptive but it been pretty busy here. The lady downstairs partner died in custody the other night and she is breaking down sobbing. My youngest brother was killed in custody so I really feel for her an am trying to help. The little old lady from the other side of the block has been terrified by the landlord telling her she has too much stuff, so i've been helping there. The $280 battery collasped in my Diesel Auto Delica the other night, so i've been trying to sort that too annnnd Im not going to mention Im behind two days design on two websites too...

So yerrr, it's the enviorment. An ol lappy, drives an' crap hangin' outa' it, interruptions, messy os and install's.... but i have enjoyed the challenge, it truely has been a good distraction from the crap around me.
Plan is now to get a second internal drive for the lappy, a hybrid, i really like the idea of them. Also some hdd sata adapters and i mite give it another load along with using the one-boot-wonder to do the file copy over...

sometimes you wish you just didn't ask don't ya'....lol...

24  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Re: [HOW-TO] Export/extract private keys from your Bitcoin Wallet for Android on: August 21, 2017, 02:01:03 PM
Finally sorted it! Thanks. Yes, I did follow step 3, but I had to modify it to get rid of an SSL error: openssl enc -d -aes-256-cbc -md md5 -a -in bitcoin-wallet-backup -out decrypted_wallet

Also I had to insert an additional step before step 5 to decrypt the PIN-protection I had set for sending bitcoins on the phone. If you have set a sending PIN on your phone and you don't do this step you won't get your private keys at step 5, only the public keys and initialisation vectors etc. You need to run: ./wallet-tool --decrypt --password=<sending pin> --wallet=decrypted_wallet.

I found the instructions for wallet-tool very helpful also: https://github.com/bitcoinj/bitcoinj/blob/master/tools/src/main/resources/org/bitcoinj/tools/wallet-tool-help.txt

The whole process is a bit long-winded, but it does work and I have finally recovered my Bitcoin Cash from my phone after the split - Whoopee!

Thanks for all your help.

Good to hear and thanks for adding this information!

well then, i've just thought to add my progress too.. yerr-nahh it hasn't worked for me, or more so i havn't worked for it...it's running and all, but seems to be going backwards, each time i open it i gota wait more days... i think i muffed the files transfere and it's going back and replacing blocks, i can see a mix of seeds in there and there is no date on the block files when the program is closed...it'll be my fault.... it was a long process installing deb8 for my usbwifi then upgrading to deb9 then a sid kernel...then it did what the instruction said it wouldnt do, ie got the 4.8 berkley in...then i worked out i prolly didnt install it in the right place, nonetheless i take the blame, mite try electron now, seems much easier just a client an all'...
25  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: buying btc with xrp... on: August 21, 2017, 01:29:58 PM
thank you all for your replies...
it's the difference in pairs, say btc/aud -10% and xrp/btc -20%, that's throwing me off, i keep thinking they should be the same or much closer and move in sync.... Part of that difference would be brokers fees but is the rest just pure trading, headless, in a brave new world?
What are the things that influence these pairs? Perhaps theses traders have closer ears to the ground, miners, devs, finteks and the like, theyd wanna' have i guess....

26  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: buying btc with xrp... on: August 21, 2017, 02:47:54 AM
my logic is im bored, i have some change and maybe i can go for a surf when the prices are right. Yes, it is easy to get burned fliping around in this surf.....

xrp * aud = currentvalue, yep i get that but isnt there a .... darn, i don;t even know what it is called, a factor? All i know is im doing two equations to get to currentvale, isnt't there a way just to do it in one equation... there would be a float-value factor involved i imagine....
27  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-03-23]3 Free Bitcoin Direct Payment Processors for Webmasters on: August 21, 2017, 02:29:52 AM
thank-you for this post haoxihat... im just wondering if you are aware of a more basic processor, perhaps one that doesnt create send address's or change address, but uses the exact amount. I can sort of see how to do it manually but wondering if your ahead on this?
28  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / buying btc with xrp... on: August 20, 2017, 11:25:40 PM
im trying to get my head around buying btc with xrp.
Is there an formula to apply to compare the values against aud?
ATM xrp/btc is low, it seems like a good time to buy, but is it?
29  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Aug 1 summary on: August 20, 2017, 09:58:42 PM

Just wondering if there are any services / web wallet  - that will provide Bitcoincash in to balance by providing Bitcoin pvt key ?
ahhh yesss, i remember back in the day wondering the same thing.
At the time I was standing on the edge of a pool. The pool was called "The Deep End". Right next to the pool was a mountain. The mountain was called "Mt Learning-Curve". I considered my task, dive into the deep end, then clamber up Mt Learning Curve.
Diving into the deep end was fine, tha's easy, but while climbing up My Learning-Curve I would often get brain freezes, but tha's ok too, a good google often thawed them out

yes Chandu there are balance checks, just google bcc, bch or bitcoin cash balance... obviously don't use your private key to check it, just the public key is all at this stage...

Have fun on your journey, in life, there arn't many mountains to climb like this...

I Passed the disable wallet option during build and am still seeing the wallet interface, nothing greyed out...

the install is on debian9 sid and interestingly berkley 4.8 loaded. Anyone else reading this might be better to stick to debian8

Anyone know if I exchange my BTC that's in my wallet that hasn't been open since before the split, if I can still get my BCH? Thx  Smiley

Why would you exchange anything? If you had bitcoins prior the fork (in a wallet where you control the private keys) then you can import them to a BCH wallet and you will get the exact same amount you had in BTC.

tbearhere don't forget to transfer your btc to a new wallet before using the key number to redeem your bch's from a bch wallet
32  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Aug 1 summary on: August 19, 2017, 12:36:46 AM
im trying to install Bitcoin ABC to redeem bch tokens...there is a database issue with the wallet part of the software for some distros.

Dependency Build Instructions: Ubuntu & Debian
https://github.com/Bitcoin-ABC/bitcoin-abc/blob/master/doc/build-unix.md

instructions are to turn wallet off to install...

Am I still able to redeem btc using the rpc panel?

36  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could Bitcoin ever replace conventional money? on: August 10, 2017, 09:26:26 AM
it more about the blockchain isn't it? It's more about how traditional banking and a lot more will move to the blockchain to use it as a ledger. Open-Source, transparent and it's much cheaper.
The banks would be laughing all the way to the blockchain, they have major savings to made with it. As have many different sorts of companies. Soon there'll prolly be LibreCalc blockchain alt-coin plug-in, Photobucket will host on it even.

It's the deals we gota' watch for... the affiliations, the friendly's and the lunch-time dinning tables.... As each alt-coin reachs it's specific market, it will become a digitail-asset.

And it will be competitive on the way there. The fees should balance the outputs and provide stability...

I disagree that bitcoin is to unstable to use as a fiat currency right now as we speak. Especially with a retailer that you have regularly done business with. Sure there is a wait time, but why not pay first upon entry to the retailer? You get a reciept like usual, you do your shopping, you get your ledger balance change-reciept at the checkout after you've shopped, it's only changing the order and trusts of the transaction, not the ability to purchase with it.

With bitcoin notes, for many small business's, a current-day bitcore wallet could easily be viewed as a point-of-sale till, that's a no-brainer sell to retailers, he empty's it at the end of the day. Stable price-deviation of a few cents hardly makes an impact on items under $15, even if the price tanks during the day.

CryptoCurrency as a fiat, easy and now! I could walk into a retailer, with printed notes, flash them up to my trusted local retailers phone that requires, go do my shopping and pick up my reciepts on the way out....easy-peasy

It's the alt-coin deals we have to watch... flash a few bitcoin notes around, see who notices...

37  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: New to Bitcoin Core on: August 10, 2017, 08:18:49 AM
Yes, the bitcore wallet handles all your address's and keys for you. It even creates extra keys, creates "change" keys, there is a limit, so if you muck with it too much you stuff things. You'll be learning to encrypt it, password it, parapass it, paraphrase it, import and export, send and recieve.
Then there's the command line panel which is crucial. Heaps of juicylongcommands [for_you_there] lol...

Which reminds me to ask here. Can I dump or use rpc to my address's and keys into a txt file? I think not...

Electrum, not to be confused with Electron, has the same learning curve less the blockfile. If you have read widely enough, all the wallets have their issues, or a compromise or an exposure somewhere along the line. Paper doesn't, except for it's media.

Paper's great but you will also need a wallet for small change spending. Remember, the beauty of this system is a payment can't be reversed!

Im about to start on my fourth wallet, i got the node running givin' it my support an' all. Some things in one wallet mean the opposite of the other wallet and sometimes have no relationship to what you expecting...

Bottom line is before you start goin' throwin' your ponys about, know what your dealing with, trust noone but yourself, pay strict attention to security...

Have you bought yet? It's only getting dearer, more expensive day by day. A paper-wallet is simple and quick, sort of like a first test into this market.

38  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Spitting coins in a Bitcoin Core wallet after potential fork August 1st on: August 09, 2017, 02:41:38 PM
There is no need to make a second Bitcoin Core wallet, or to even do anything to split your coins. Since they now have two way replay protection, your coins will be split the moment the chain forks.

What you need to do to spend your ABC coins is to just make a copy of your Core wallet.dat file. Then install the Bitcoin ABC client and put your copied wallet.dat file in the place where you want the ABC datadir to be (do this before starting ABC). Then start ABC and let it sync. When you want to spend your ABC coins, just use the ABC wallet. When you want to spend your Core coins, use the Bitcoin Core wallet.

thank-you for your posts achow101 and dotbitme...

Would this twist on this method save a step. My goal is to move my bch to a paper wallet...

copy over the datadir and wallet.dat to a new directory
start bitcoin core, point it to new directory
load with new paperwallet address in the receiving list
sync it
send prefork btc to new address, wait for confirms
close Bitcoin core
install bitcoin abc, let it overwrite the files, sync it,
load with key from prefork btc, bch shows up,
send to new paper-wallet address that was loaded in bitcoin core

doing it this way i wouldnt have to go back to bitcore coin and would save a transaction... i havn't used bitcoin core yet, but from what i understand if i let it create a receiving address of it's own im going to have to extract the key and or do the passphrase thingy to get it simply from one addy to another... within the same wallet...
