21  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Theymos: What the fuck is up with BFL and TradeFortress? on: May 20, 2013, 01:13:37 PM
BFL deserve a scammer tag at this point, but they still buy nearly all of this forum's ad spots, and it seems as though the decision has been made to keep letting them advertise until they stop paying. They have already missed countless promised shipping dates, and defaulted on their power consumption charity wager.
Offtopic, but are you BlackLilac? Why do you have 2 accounts?

Our first service is close to launching and I'm handing the "BlackLilac" account over to the person who I've hired to do our PR. I won't be posting much anymore but I create this account for myself.

BFL 5GH/s + R-Pi  ($350 approx)

Magic = 1,000,000 TH/s free!

There is no product you can buy from BFL that hashes at 5 GH/s and will ship any time this year, if ever. Comparing a real in-hand product to vapourware is silly.

Of course you have absolutely no proof of this claim

I placed my order for a 5GH/s unit on 5th. April, it cost me 2.62BTC including shipping, in order to get 5GH/s worth of USB devices you would have to purchase 17 units, and spend over 33BTC, even if my order takes several months to turn up, I will still be ahead.

I will also be purchasing an Avalon chip based device, but no the Block Erupter USB, it's a ripoff at 1.99BTC or more.

I hope by "several months" you mean 10-12 months, or never.

What claim did I make that I have no proof of? That ASICMINER USBs are in-hand, or that BFL has currently missed their promised shipping date by ~ 8 months and counting, and that orders placed today likely won't be shipped for at least that long?

Or were you referring to my claim about magic? If so you're right, I can't back that up.

I really do hope you get your unit in a reasonable time frame, but I hope you're not counting on it, because there is zero evidence that they will ever be able to fill all of their early pre-orders, let alone those placed in 2013. Meanwhile, my ASICMINER blades and USBs will be hashing away next week.

Very nice. When did you order?

E-mailed the first day this thread came out, completed the payment @ 2013-05-16 09:42:55. Got the tracking number less than 24 hours later.

If any slots open up,
1@ 50.

It's not an auction. Save yourself 0.01 BTC and e-mail them to place your order.   Wink

Just noticed this:

Gavin Andresen has changed the Bitcoin code to block any output with a value of less than 54uBTC:

https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pull/2577

Many Bitcoin users are going to be affected and see their funds blocked. For instance ASICMiner share payments, BitHits faucet payments, anyone depending on microtransactions. If you depend on small payments you need to change your business model now or find yourself shutdown overnight.

Gavin: It's sad that you aren't willing to speak about this publicly on the forums, rather than hiding away all the debate on GitHub away from the general public.

edit: To be clear, I like the patch: https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pull/2577#issuecomment-17138223

What I don't like is when I realized not once had Gavin or anyone else in the development team made a public statement that this change was coming down the line. If I hadn't made this post, for all I know it would have been hidden away in the next Bitcoin-QT with no warning at all, right when we all have to upgrade before May 15th.

Why isn't think on your blog or someone else so people have time to change the way their businesses operate? Why the secrecy?

Sounds like friedcat won't be able to send our confirmation satoshis anymore.

Agree to disagree about Ripple/Tradefortress.

It is not rational to Agree to Disagree.  But let's make sure we're on the same page -- I don't think TF is a scammer per se, but posting in a thread and then removing all discussion that doesn't go along his point of view is very sketchy.

Why isn't it rational? I know what I think about the situation, and I don't feel like arguing with those who are thinking about it differently.

Tradefortress is one of the more trustworthy people I know on this forum, and it is clear that his thread was done to exploit perceived failures in Ripple, not to scam anyone, and certainly not for personal gain.

I don't know about the posts he edited/deleted, certainly that could be sketchy, depending on the content of the posts.
32  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) on: May 17, 2013, 06:35:21 AM
oh, and friedcat updated the main ASICMINER thread - the mass production of the USB miners should be done today, allowing them to begin testing and packaging. YAY!

So I'm guessing there is a slight possibility we'll have these in our grubby paws by next weekend huh ?  Shocked

That would be sweet, but I'm not counting on it.

Does anyone know approximately how long it has taken ASICMINER shipments to arrive in the US? It would be great to hear how many days it has been taking the Blades to arrive stateside.

I didn't suggest Ripple is a scam... Ripple is what it is; a centralized, closed source service. Personally I'm reserving judgement on its usefulness.

I said that Tradefortress seems to have exploited a hole in it, and that he is far from a scammer.

PS. You should be out of the newbie section once you have been logged in for more than four hours. If you've already done this and you are still restricted, I'd send a PM to a moderator.

I agree - you didn't, but you did call us sockpuppets.  And I want to make the point that it is reasonable for people who are being called scammers carte blanche to be able to justify their position, and that it isn't just OpenCoin sockpuppets coming out of the woodwork or something that's happening here.

There is no "Hole" that he is exploiting -- he exploiting *people* (if he's exploiting people at all).  Now granted, they will only be exploited to the extent that they trust him, but that is only going to happen because he's a Hero member, and that's the issue.

I will try staying logged in for 4 consecutive hours and do that if that doesn't work, thanks.

Shouldn't have to be consecutive, there is a "Total time logged in" counter towards the top of the page, next to your avatar and directly under the "Watchlist" link. Once that hits four hours, and you have five or more posts, your restrictions should be lifted automatically.

Agree to disagree about Ripple/Tradefortress.

Cheers.

I don't recognize Ripple IOUs as binding agreements.

Exactly.

Thanks for making this clear, theymos.

The posters starting these threads about Tradefortress should be banned. They are likely all Ripple sockpuppets. Scammer tags are for scammers; those who steal, don't pay back loans, break contracts, or the like. Not people exploiting holes in centralized systems like Ripple.

I am not a sockpuppet.  I have been a member of these forums for quite some time(though I have not yet figured out how to convince you all that I am not a 'noob' and am hence not able to post in most threads) and I am a fairly public person (albeit a Ripple supporter) on much of the web.  I have been on TV promoting Bitcoin and I do not appreciate the suggestion that Ripple is a scam.

TradeFortress is doing everyone a favor, showing how you can be ripped off or stiffed in an easy way. This could be a loop hole to allow Ripple to take your money and keep it and label it fraud.

TradeFortress is a reputable member of the forum for what seems to a long time, he puts more into Crypto than most. Im sure he has no need to take your money or SCAM you.

I would trust TradeFortress, with my wallet and kids.

"Ripple" is a protocol not an entity.  "Ripple" is not going to take your money any more than "Bitcoin" will.

Nonsense. Ripple is controlled in full by one company, who can do whatever they want with any funds in the system.

Awful quiet. Any news?

It's only been a day.  Wink

We should have some additional info in the next few days I'd think.

yea, i'm just waiting and watching the other threads for friedcat's posts. nothing to report on my end. Sad

though i am feeling better!

Friedcat hasn't even made his regular thursday update on the main ASICMINER thread  Undecided

He will. friedcat is the most reliable player in the ASIC space, by far. I'd trust him to watch my kids at this point.
