21  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / How to get involved to understand crypto world on: August 31, 2017, 04:54:10 PM
Hi,

I am a IT developer with quite a bit of experience but never paid attention to development aspects of crypto/smart contracts. I have been playing with BTC and ETH for sometime so i do understand from the currency aspect of it.

Now i want to get involved with the development aspect of it to get to the details of the technology and to unlock the opportunity it has for a tech developers like me.

Can you share your thoughts how one could travel the path and where to start and what to follow. I am sure there are many like me and a healthy discussion would be very helpful for many.

If there is was a discussing in this line and provide answers to my questions please point me in that directions.

TIA

Your link has been removed so we can't see it.
I have just got my Ledger nano s, which is a hardware wallet, and I'm satisfied with it.
I don't have to worry about my keys being stolen due to keeping them unencrypted on external pendrive which can fail anytime.
Paper wallets are cheaper but less convienient and you still have to keep them in a safe place.

But ledger wallet is a device too and it can fail anytime. Also i think ledger is risky in the sense single point of failure and prone for hack/compromise.
23  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I send $1 worth of BTC and pay $4.95 in fee, is that a joke? 500% fee? ROFL on: August 29, 2017, 05:07:30 PM
That's more expensive then sending money from MARS to Cambodia with a satellite technology.
Looks like Bitcoin is going to fail hard and Ethereum finally will take over.
Main reason why sending dusts or small amounts are to be avoided specially at times like this when you need a higher fee for your transaction to get confirm fast. If you want to send money with cheaper , yeas eth is a good choice. I doubt it will ever surpass bitcoin tho.
Just use Bitcoin Cash.  That is what it was designed to do.  Simple solution.  Bitcoin Core is designed for big bank settlement functionality.  It doesn't work for amounts less than about $100.  Get used to it.  That is the way Bitcoin is set up now.  YOu can thank Core for that.

Use LTC for small denominations and daily purchases. Up to date technology.
24  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who do you think is Satoshi Nakamoto? on: August 29, 2017, 04:59:11 PM
I don't have any sources to cite, but I honestly think Satoshi Nakamoto isn't any of these guys. Who knows he might just be an adult/s having the time of his life living in Hawaii or something LOL. Assuming if he completely moved on from his or their(Satoshi Nakamoto might be a group) invention.

It shouldn't matter who he is though. He already did his part on this new technology. (It would be great if we knew who he really is though).
I would say the same thing too on which I don't see on those people on whose satoshi nakamoto. Ive selected on the poll (others) because I do strongly believe that Satoshi wont really easily expose himself even on other name that he would tend to use. If bitcoin is anonymous then definitely hes anonymous too. No one really knows on whos satoshi nakamoto and people or even government do really strive to seek him.

Don't you think NSA is watching any movements from Satoshi BTC account with thousand eyes ...
25  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The 'real' Bitcoin on: August 29, 2017, 04:54:17 PM
So everyone is fighting to argue that their prong of the fork is the 'real' bitcoin.  But that distinction is clearly behind us now.  There is no 'real' bitcoin.  Rather there are 3 prongs each of which share the same genesis block and early history.  Bitcoin now includes:

  • Bitcoin 1 : Bitcoin Cash
  • Bitcoin 2 : Bitcoin SegWit2X
  • Bitcoin 3 : Bitcoin Core

To help all members of the community, it is beneficial that everyone stop fighting over who will be the 'real' bitcoin and clearly distinguish between all three viable networks.  Further fighting over the 'Bitcoin' brand is damaging to all three.  When writing about your favorite prong, please use the designators above.

I agree. Let's stop all the battles going around the Bitcoin community! Sadly, we the ordinary guys could not do anything if  self-professed Bitcoin leaders would not be heeding the call to instead sit down, talk and then unite with a common purpose and interest in mind.

I do believe that the real Bitcoin is no other than Bitcoin and any other coin though bearing the name Bitcoin are just alternative ones. Bitcoin Cash can be considered as a daughter of the original Bitcoin and though it can have a life of its own and be valuable too the fact is that it is also just an altcoin and nobody can change its history...not today, not tomorrow, not forever.

There can be a thousand forks and splits but we know the real score here. Nothing can beat the original and even if they can copy it we can easily distinguish the real one from just another copy. And there is no debate on that.

What does this all tell :

Academic papers are good on paper. Practical issues are different. Yes, Bitcoin concept is good then why everybody is not rallying for it and fixing it in a unified way? Because self interest comes and dominates the common good.  Yeah , its a democratic process so anybody can do what they want!!! BS. You will end up with a high theater and fun game nothing serious.

Decentralized comes and demonize the central authority and paint them as evil only to find after a decade decentralized is manipulated as much just that in a different innovative way.

These stupid teams are making a mockery of the whole concept and 3 -4 forks a year and guess what we will end up with in 5 - 10 years. Everything is hunky dory when stakes are less. Once the taste of real money comes in, every system is manipulated and taken advantage of.

Mark my words .. no system and team is looking for common good. They are looking for their way to success and profit. You and me , the common people will become casuality, be it cryptocurrency or fiat.

Sure, i can invest in all of them and wait for the winner  but that is missing the whole point.
26  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Who is buying bitcoin and crypto on: August 28, 2017, 08:59:41 PM

People that are smart and rich or people that are unproven and hoping to get rich quick

I am surprised there are not much options that are not intrusive. I have no problem giving my id but most of these companies don't have any regulations and we never know where our data will end up. That is why i am looking for service who doesn't ask too much personal information.

Any outside US exchanges we can use?

Nice to see an active developer like this. I've seen a lot of projects where the dev is (supposedly) doing a lot of work but lacks huge communication. Or developers with a lot of communication but really not much work in dev but this gluedog does a lot of work and communicates daily to everyone and is clear and good in what he tells. That's trustworthy!

How is ICO going?

Can i use my ledger nano to participate in ICO or it has to be etherwallet?

Thanks for the pointer.
We have deleted the section about Bounties from our announcement thread and will update once we are done migrating to a new one.

I do not understand why should someone invest in this token. I mean come on, it is just one lucky person who will win the raffle at  the end of each week. What are the odds of u winning it...Huh 0.000005%?!?!?!!. It is great for the winner but bad for losers(which is the majority). Kthxbye.

The chances of winning the raffle depend on how many people actually register to the raffle that week.

For example: If there are 100 tickets bought for the raffle, and you have three of those tickets - then your chance of winning is 3%.

Investing in this token, I believe, is attractive because of three main reasons:

1. Potential of an extremely small supply (10% tokens in the raffle are burned, bounty tokens will be burned on 5 September 2017, unsold tokens from the crowdsale account will be burned after the ICO)
2. The weekly raffles!
3. The "Billionaire Hold'em" poker game!

Looks a good ICO although it is new and i got an attention because of its Name "Billionaire" ,but its lack of informations thou.  I am slightly got disappointed .
I want to say that a good promotion or advertisements that can boost this ICO awareness is much preferred .

I am here to answer any of your questions.
We are also planning to release a Whitepaper before our Token Sale.

What would you like to know more of the Billionaire Token project?

I fail to understand why people will flock to buy this. I understand the limited supply and deflationary but if it supposedly increase in value, why would someone want to pay premium to buy it. Also how and why would the coin investment will result in greater returns, on what basis there will be demand.
34  Economy / Exchanges / Best deposit method on: August 26, 2017, 03:51:29 PM
Currently for a USC, as far i know, coinbase and kraken are only possible deposit gateways for fiat to crypto world.

While i have been using coinbase, they have become a pain. Their system blocks me from placing a buy order asking for ID verification, which i have done 1 month back.
When i upload my drivers license and selfie, it just says failed. No details, no explanation, no followup on how to proceed from there. Drives me nuts. 0 customer satisfaction rating if it is in traditional market space. Customer service is absolutely terrifying but i don't see other options.

Kraken is outright asking for SSN,  give me a break. You are not regulated by any authority and your practices are questionable like any other crypto organization. Submitting DL itself is a stretch for me , forget about SSN.

How do you guys convert fiat to crypto and how you are able to overcome these hurdles to quickly deposit when you want.

BTW, i use Polo and Bittrex for buy/sell but only after you purchased your BTC/ETH/LTC  from coinbase.  Appreciate any reliable suggestions that you have tried.

36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / CENTRA CTR - Is it a scam? on: August 25, 2017, 03:00:04 PM
Dipped my toes with CENTRA ICO, but lot of red flags for this ICO. I took a chance but scam alerts all over for this token.
While investigating their ethereum  contract i found information as attached.

Why is the token limit so high .. what is the correct token limit for CTR?  Their website says its 100,000,000  but the contract shows way different number.
Can someone throw some light on this ...

For some reason i couldn't find a way to attach the image of contract.

Thanks

Have been observing this ICO for a while. It made sense to purchase when the BTC/ETH/LTC were little cheap. But with their current exchange rates, how does it make sense to invest in this ICO when the offer price is so high.

think .. Think .. Think...

When price of these assets go up it subsequently will raise our value prior to launch Smiley

Nope it doesn't make sense to already assume that it is appreciated asset.  Buying a 100 mil float at $0.80(after bonus)  in ICO is very expensive.  When BTC was $1900 when the initial announcement , it made sense. Not when BTC is $4250 for that ration.  Very very expensive.

Sorry , have to pass it.

Now that BTC sucked the air out of ALTs,  whats your game plan. If you are bottom fishing, what would that be and when?
