The price has been updated for the A5.
Currently it's 1180 USD MOQ 5 units.
That's a price decline of 847% in the last 4 or 5 months. It was $9999 usd in December if I recall correctly.
http://www.innosilicon.com/html/a5-miner/index.html

Painful to watch...

I would understand if Innosilicon was actually able to pull through and deliver the A5 as promised the first time around at the 10K mark, but it was so many months late that nobody stood a chance at reaching ROI and still don't. To lower the price that much after screwing so many people over with late defective miners just really grinds my gears.

I'm still pissed that they sold first A5s at 10000USD and they don't think they did anything wrong in first place.

It is my worst miner investment ever, I don't think I'll ever make any worse decision than buying a A5 unit.

I haven't received any compensation.

I haven't received any coupons.

Nothing.
I got the Innosilicon A4+ as compensation (had to pay over $400 or so for "shipping") but it wasn't easy to get.

Emailing Innosilicon and trying to get them to do as they said and ship me my compensation did nothing.

I had to constantly post of their Twitter page demanding that I get what they promised. After a while they got annoyed and finally sent it over.

@everybody who bought this shit for 10k $, haha you deserve it greedy fucker for supporting asics and beeing retarded
It's actually impossible to not support asics at this stage. You may need to do more research.

They have also reduced the A5's dramatically.

Currently the A5 is down to $2100 per unit.

Also, Innosilicon has announced their new A5+ that is running for $4200 USD (aka 2 A5's strapped together using one control board):
https://twitter.com/Inno_Miner/status/977121341777199104

Since I'm posting pictures, how about a portrayal for all of us that have purchased the A5 at $10,000 USD with the false promise of timely shipping, active customer support and reliable machines (Like ones that perhaps didn't catch on fire for starters):

I'm not sure, because they keep changing the password quiet often. But I would be glad to try Smiley
Okay, here is update_171229.bin:

Hi,

could anyone please upload the dec 22 firmware?? I need to reset the config password.
Thanks in advance! Smiley
I don't have the December 22nd firmware update, but I have December 29th. Would it help?
26  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Innosilicon A5 DashMaster 30.2G 750W on: February 16, 2018, 02:27:55 PM
Innosilicon has their A5 out for on their website for $2780 USD with the MOQ at 5 units.
If this isn't a slap in the face I don't know what is.

I noticed that they didn't yet post this news on their Twitter page. Probably because they are afraid of the backlash they might get for ripping so many people off. Cheesy

Wtf ?They are selling it cheap because it has issues? Did i get that right? Dash isnt worth mining anyways, they are somewhat asic resistant and alot of those offline ant D3s will come back to life soon as price goes up lol. Dash difficulty is down from its peak recently but is slowly coming back up.
Well I'm hoping that they at least fixed the capacitor issue in these newer models. But I wouldn't be surprised it they didn't.

Dash is still worth mining. It's not asic resistant. The fact that there are asics available to mine it means that it is not asic resistant. ATM the A5 is slightly more profitable than mining Bitcoin with an s9 if you get it for the price listed on their website.

So I updated the firmware on my A5 because it stopped mining

Be aware of the possible fire  Shocked Shocked   Here is information from a mining farm:

15 more A5’s caught fire today. All A5’s turned off again.  Downclock and upgrade firmware doesn’t help in this time. We will wait an engineer from Innosillicon to upgrade hardware and remove capacitors.

 Undecided Undecided Cry Cry
The image that you posted was from Giga Watt. They posted that image publicly on Twitter as a response to Innosilicon. I had also linked to it on the previous page of this discussion thread.

So when they say that "15 more A5's caught fire" is that in addition to the 17 that had already caught fire at Giga Watt?

So I updated the firmware on my A5 because it stopped mining and now I can't load the web page that shows my dashboard. I'm mining to zpool so I can't check to see if my miner is up without the dashboard either. The green light on the back is flashing and the miner fans are running with a little heat coming off the fans making me think it is working but I can't tell.

When I first updated it to the new firmware, I was able to use the dashboard but I couldn't change my mining pools. So I then updated it again with putting the check box in the return to factor settings since some people said that worked. That is when the dashboard wouldn't turn on after doing that update.

I emailed innosilicon but you all know how futile that is. Been down for over 48 hours. Up until now I was always able to trouble shoot it myself and get it working.

Anyone have any suggestions or know what is going on?
Have you logged into your router to see if there are any new IP addresses? If the miner is getting hot and seems to be mining, it is probably just mining on the default Innosilicon pool.

When I updated, I ticked the 'Return To Factory Default Settings' as well and it changed the IP to something like 192.168.1.16 instead of the default 192.168.1.254. I found the address through my router and changed it back. Alternatively you could use IP scanning software to find it as well.

I got my "A4+ Super" from Innosilicon miner this week as compensation for the late A5.
Price was $403.33 for shipping.

To quote the email I had received "Delivery of the miners will be finished within 3 biz days after payment confirmation."
In typical Innosilicon fashion, 45 days later, it arrived.

The miner label says "Innosilicon A4+ Super LTC Master (new and better A4+)"
I find it interesting that I had not seen this online before.

It's hashing very nicely at 663 MHS at 840W.
Despite Innosilicon's reputation and customer support issues, I do appreciate the compensated miner and realize that they weren't required to do this.

I am running the latest updated files "update_180129.bin" for both miners and their both running fine.

Did u overall make money or lose with that deal because there was a time where D3 which is 15hgz was selling for 5k usd (first batch) because it could make around 8-10k usd id i recall right. Next batches were 2.5k and 1.4k usd if I recall right.

Ao if u gotten A5 fast, can roi real fast.

Unfortunately due to shipping delays, nobody was able to reach ROI with an A5 yet. The D3's were out months before anybody got their hands on the A5, they drove up the difficulty to high to fast for the A5 purchasers to take advantage of the low difficulty rate. Which is why they decided to offer the A4+ as compensation for anybody who bought an A5.

I got one from the first batch (I got mine December 1st, they originally promised early October) but the D3's drove up the mining difficulty way to much before anybody with an A5 had the opportunity to get in early.

I've only been able to mine about 0.67 Dash with my A5.

At current prices of Dash and Litecoin, I'm still looking at well over a year or two to reach ROI. But by that time there will most likely be something that is more powerful that drives the mining difficulty up too high.

I believe at this point, the only chance to reach ROI is if the prices of Dash and Litecoin appreciate significantly over time.

Anybody have install new update from 29.01.18?

How your asics feel himself after that?
I've installed the update. Can't see any noticeable difference when it comes to hash rate or temperature.
It's been running it for 3 days with no issues.

Update from 29.01.2018. Today 29.01.2018.

Are you shure, that your asic running for 3 days, sinse update?
My mistake, they issue so many updates that I can't seem to catch up!
I updated mine 3 days ago with the latest version released earlier this month.
Didn't realize it had an update already.

So I managed to do the mandatory hardware update that Innosilicon released. I thought I would share my experience here.
First, I tried to remove the capacitor with a soldering iron. It didn't work out at all.
This time I tried with a unsoldering air heat gun and had somewhat better luck.

The capacitors on the first two has boards did not come off how I had imagined they would. They literally turned to dust after putting the hot air on it and trying to remove it with tweezers. I ended up scraping them off the board with a pin.

The capacitor on the last hash board actually came off in one piece, after a lot of heat and wiggling. Heating it to 380 from 1 cm away for 30 seconds is what the update documentation recommends, but in my experience it was not nearly enough to loosen the capacitor. It takes much more convincing unfortunately.

I think that unless you have VERY good eyes, a steady hand, and a good unsoldering air heat gun, I would not recommend trying this as a DIY type fix.
I consider myself quite lucky to have accomplished this without causing harm to any other components. The capacitor in the images is really really tiny, and is in a very awkward spot which makes it hard to get at. There is also a large heat sink in the way that makes it even more difficult.

Here are some images I managed to snap in the process.
The before and after photo is not the exact same hash board, but you get the idea.

Poor one out for the fallen A5's
They're bursting up in flames.

In classical Innosilicon fashion instead of addressing the issue head on, they decided that they were in no way responsible for what happened because they feel like they somehow address this issue by simply releasing their "mandatory hardware update" and expecting everybody to be able to fit it themselves.

An analogy would be:
"Hey we know we sold you a new car that is still under warranty, but instead of recalling it because it might catch on fire, how about you void your warranty, take it apart and fuck with very intricate/delicate components or pay somebody and hope they can fix it for you?"

I mean, how irresponsible or naive can they possibly be? The thing that gets me is that they don't see anything wrong with this! They did at least offer to help to address Giga Watt's issues.. by telling them to contact their support email. But as we all know, that's not saying much because of how unresponsive their support staff has been in the past.

Anyways, here are some images of some A5's looking extra crispy. Not for the faint of heart:
https://twitter.com/cryp2koool/status/955049873925115904

Giga Watt Mining‏ posted an image of 17 burnt A5 miners yesterday:

Also, if anybody is looking for the "Mandatory Hardware Update" PDF, I found it Tweeted here:

For anybody curious about the newest mandatory hardware fix to avoid overheating the A5, I took it apart to see whether or not it would be something I would be able to do. Turns out it is not something I can do with standard soldering equipment. The capacitor is microscopic. I took some pictures that might help to scale what Innosilicon is actually recommending that everybody does to their A5. The fact that Innosilicon is not offering to cover this mandatory fix under warranty speaks volumes about what type of company they are.

38  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Innosilicon A5 DashMaster 30.2G 750W on: January 13, 2018, 06:07:54 PM
If we thought the instructions for updating software on the A5 through the TF card reader was bad. Wait until you see the instructions for the newest mandatory hardware update PDF titled "Mandatory hardware fix to avoid overheating in A5 dashmaster". It's actually hilariously poorly written.

Any other legitimate company would offer a paid recall of their product and fix their overheating hardware issue to maintain their reputation and trust. I guess since it has been made clear that all their customers are dissatisfied and angry at Innosilicon, I guess they figure they have nothing to lose by issuing their latest update requiring the customers to do it themselves.

Apparently their warranty seal means nothing if they are demanding that customers actually open up their miners and fuck with very intricate components Cheesy Not that it matters to me because mine came with broken warranty seals anyways Roll Eyes

I'm surprised that my A5 is actually hashing nicely at 33 GH/s. Everything they do is such a facepalm that it seems like a miracle that they actually managed to create the worlds most efficient Dash miner (commercially available at the time of this post).

Also, changing topic, more A5's are popping up on eBay. The one I saw today was selling as a "Buy it now" / "Free shipping" for $5300 US... Ouch.

I seriously lost it when I saw the email. I will never buy from them again.

For me, I've struggled to even receive compensation for a PSU that was dead on arrival in November 2017. Of course, I promptly bought a new one on Amazon to get the A5 operational for $190.

They only want to send me a coupon for $60 as they clearly do not stand behind any "warranty" that they list on their website. Considering how much money I've spent on the A5, the idea that they wouldn't offer full compensation for the whole PSU or a ship a new unit is beyond amazing. Add to that all of the issues with the actual miner, I hope no one else is foolish enough to send this company another penny. Bitmain 100% from here on out. They are not perfect, but they are MUCH better than Innosilicon.
Wow. There's got to be legal action that we could be taking when it comes to things like this. They can't just guarantee a warranty and back out when anybody goes needs it.

I've actually never tested my PSU that came with it because I already had a APW3++ on hand that I'm using for the A5.. I wonder if mine works! Huh

Even the last update should be covered under warranty seeing as it's mandatory. I bet that now that we open up our miners (those of us that have sealed warranty stickers) to do the latest hardware update, then they are going to start saying that we voided our warranty because the seals are broken.

I've never heard of a company that blatantly treats their customers so badly. Maybe it's because they usually don't last long enough for word to get around...

I have a question for those of you who have done the TF card firmware update. I have build dates of ~11/13/17 on all 10 of my a5s and they do have the TF card readers installed. When reading the manual for flashing via TF card it clearly shows how to set the boot image on the card. But then the last part of the instructions tell you to go into the miner via browser and update firmware there. It says to do it from the firmware you dl onto your pc and says nothing about using the tf card.

What exactly do i do with the tf card i just setup? Put it in there and update firmware via pc using web interface or does it update off the tf card? I'd rather not brick these things, i've already got 1 with a dead hashing board and many others with the pw problem...

I was also wondering about this. The Instructions that Innosilicon provided to update the A5 through TF card reader is not clear.
I assumed the same thing you did.. I put the TF card into the reader, then did the browser update using the 'Update File' provided on their website.

Seems to work okay so far...

It seems that may people are having issues with the A5's. I've heard many others mention that they have dead hash boards, or missing TF card readers. I have also read many posts mentioning software issues people have been experiencing.

I cannot believe how irresponsible Innosilicon has been to their customers and the community. Comments on their Twitter page are tearing them to shreds, calling them out on all of these issues that they refuse to acknowledge any of their customers, then go on to advertise their newest A4+ on their page and pretend like everything is fine.

My personal experience with Innosilicon so far has been:
- Several months late on promised miner arrival time
- Very unclear instructions
- No response from support when I tried to email for clarification at any point
- Was promised free A4+ as compensation for late A5 delivery in one email
- They took back their promise in the next email, but then actually offered it again on the condition I wire them over $400 US for shipping charges
- I wired them the $400 over 2 weeks ago and still have not been able to get a confirmation.
- No longer answering any of my emails

Dear customer,

Thanks for your feedback about A5 miner.

We have been upgrading our firmware for more stable and efficient performance of Inno miners.
More info please go to Innosilicon Support Centre at:  http://www.innosilicon.com/html/downA4/ when you meet problems.

If upgrading the firmware cannot solve your problem, please send the details in email to miner_support@innosilicon.com.cn or add Skype(same with the support address).
We will get back to you asap. Thank you.

Thanks for your valuable comments; we will continuously improve our service in the future. Looking forward to bring you the excellent customer exprience in the future!

Unbelievable.. You have made direct replies to two concerns from two different customers but addressed neither of them.

  • The 'Innosilicon Support Centre' documents do NOT have instructions on what to do with the TF card once you flash the new firmware on it, as EdgeOfSanity had explained.
  • Your advice to "please send the details in email to miner_support@innosilicon.com.cn" is useless because I HAVE ALREADY EMAILED over 3 weeks ago about my wire transfer and nobody had messaged me saying that it had been received, let alone any information about shipping or delivery dates.
  • I am already running the latest HW version, it actually is running well, and I am incredibly grateful for that. It's more than what many other customers can say. So your advise about updating had nothing to do with what has been discussed.
  • Not sure if you know this, but nobody from your company is ever online on Skype...

Perhaps there is a language barrier?
