These air blasters are awesome: Metro Vacuum
22  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: October 17, 2017, 03:54:06 PM
keeping an eye on the avalon software, I have noticed this:

https://github.com/Canaan-Creative/cgminer/commit/e0a064459d8764f562831cd79c7900caef985008

So it looks like we will have   a new Avalon 761 with 26 chips on a board  (108 asics if the number of boards will be 4 as in 741).  So we expect around 9TH per miner.

This is old news
23  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: October 09, 2017, 03:07:56 PM
Welp, all of my AUC3s apparently came "unflashed". I sent Steve an email but they haven't responded yet so I'm just putting this here. Anyone know how to flash the AUC3 converter?

Are you familiar with avr programming? If so you may be in luck. The AUC uses a NXP mcu that can programmed using LPCXpresso IDE freeware. You can look at their repo for it here: github.com/Canaan-Creative/Avalon-USB-converter

Looks like Canaan has been testing a controller build an Avalon8 machine  Shocked
25  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: September 26, 2017, 02:46:26 PM
Damn. So there hasn't been a single report of an actual NIB miner from this seller?
26  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: September 22, 2017, 04:30:31 PM
Did you pay for your orders? I haven't heard a single report of Canaan taking money from customers and not delivering.
I lost money when buying BTC.
And on the difference in the course, I waited for them to provide the BTC number.
Me too. I converted my money into bitcoins just for the payment and hold them for whole month...

Seems like a lot of new folks showing since the btc bubble began, and many are expressing a similar sentiment when things don't go as planned.
Please give this a read: Caveat emptor
27  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Question on Mining with Avalon 6 miners - AUC & cord on: September 21, 2017, 09:04:01 AM
Like NotFuzzyWarm said, you just need a USB to I2C

If you can't find original Avalon ACU's, try one of these:

This may be the housing Canaan is using for their AUC connector:

Update https://minerwarez.com/

*** Orders now open for September 30th Batch***

(Shipping upon arrival of miners to the US, dependent on Manufacturer delivery and Customs processing)

Hopefully there is some sense of responsibility to those who have been waiting on prior order placement, and they can work on fulfilling those before sending everything they have to minerwarez.

Edit: Three weeks is a long time to wait with no communication, and then find out that customers who orders from a distributer much later are receiving their products.
29  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: How to start S9 fans before the actual controller / boards (humid environment) on: September 20, 2017, 02:13:46 AM
Why not take the fans from the miners and hook them up to a relay and speed control switch. that way you can turn them on alone first to dry out the miners then once ready you can power up the miners and hand control of the fans back to the miner?

But note if you do this you will be pushing cold air over damp electronics.  I highley recomend you find somewhere that is more suitable and less dangerous!

So this is the kind of answer i'm looking for, thanks Atrax. Can you elaborate on a potential set-up as you describe but controlling 30-70 S9's? What would be the most efficient set up to power all 30-70 fans using this relay-switch configuration?

Unfortunately, my source of power is cheap but I have 0 alternative options for alternate set-up. I'll elaborate on what I'm doing specifically in a later post, for now I'd prefer to keep it undisclosed until I can test it out.

I was thinking since you obviously have power restored by the time you are planning on drying out your miners. You may want to set up a few different fans to blow onto your miner set up, once everything is up and running with a dehumidifier or 2.

Another option is looking into Desiccant trays/bags/packets placed throughout the container during layup periods. It is what is used inside boilers during dry layups during prolonged downtime, to prevent moisture and corrosion.

I would also look into trying to seal whatever you can to reduce the exposure to the elements during these periods; and as much as you can during operation.

-Yes setting up fans could work but activating the S9's fans would be far more efficient.
-Good idea on the Dessicant! It's not ideal as it adds to the operating cost / overhead but it might be something I'm forced to do.

Thanks for the helpful feedback everyone. It's too bad I can't just modify the firmware to only power up the S9's fans on start-up (?).

Well what I would do is tap into the wires on each miner possibly with block or crip connectors and hook them all into a series then power them by a seperate source and controll them via some form of speed controll like here.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/12v-PWM-PC-CPU-Fan-Temperature-Control-Speed-Controller-Module-High-temp-Alarm/835782064?iid=302358014128

That way your miner boards do not draw any power and are safe while the fans dry out the boards.

But I would 100% say a dehumidifier would be the main thing you should be investing in to help take that moisture out the air and will help to cure the issue you are facing in the first place.

Please note I am not responsable if you damage anything but this is what I would do.  Might take a while to hook them all up but it will be much better that letting them be damp on startup just remeber to let the miner controll the fans once you are finished possily pop a switch in the series that can hand controll back to the miners once finished.

The relay idea is probably a terrible one, for a few reasons. First, what amperage is that can controller rated for? Things that cost less than $10 and don't come with a datasheet (like that item from eBay) are not going to be able to drive high power dc fans, let alone 20 of them (or however many you have). Do you think you can splice into each lead from a 4 wire PWM and have it run like this? What about isolation: do you want these fans powered by a separate source? Either answer, "yes" or "no" leads you to new problems, such as diode protection for reverse voltage when the miners are off but the fans are on, and what about voltage spikes from the miners turning on/off running to the separate controller? Is the separate relay/controller going to interfere with the PWM signal or sense signal when the miner is running and monitoring its own speed?

Ya, there are 58 pages of orders that  jasmine and lily are plowing through. I really want to thank you guys for your patience.

I will see what I can do to help you. My phone and google hangouts is going crazy.

Everyone on Canaan's end has been silent, what happened? Has anyone received an update regarding their Aug 31 order?
31  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: September 12, 2017, 07:57:07 AM
When they say will start shipping on backlog order on the 20th to 30th Sep , does that include 31st Aug order or before 31st Aug order?Huh? Like everyone else i still dont get any response for 31st order and i had a order on July .....just cancel it off and replace with 31st Aug order. Didnt know they can screw up. Should have just pay for the L3++ with the money i kept for canaan

Well they obviously aren't shipping orders that haven't been paid for.
32  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: September 11, 2017, 06:06:18 PM

Still better than Bitmain though, and I'm glad they didn't take our money first then let it sit in limbo however the gap in customer satisfaction between Bitmain and Canaan is becoming narrow.

I agree and it's a shame. Canaan disappeared for a while and when they came back onto the scene with the A6's they were great (in terms of communication, payment, product, and everything else). The A7 generation machines started out strong, but it seems like something happened to the company, perhaps internally. Maybe it's solely due to a large influx of low volume purchases, but it still seems like they are dropping the ball and moving away from the Avalon rep that they've built. It's not a transparent situation so I can only speculate; the worst part is they are the only competitor of Bitmain
33  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Blackened power connectors on: September 11, 2017, 05:51:55 PM
This happens semi-frequently to me over time. Usually I notice it around the time I need to upgrade machines (e.g. A6 to A7's or S7 to S9's). I think what is happening is that the PCI connector pins are getting strained over time in certain areas (especially where you have 6+2 pin PCIE connectors which ATX PSU's provide) and high resistance starts manifesting around the pin matings, which in turn blackens/melts the nylon connectors. The white color is easier to spot; the black PCI connectors from the PSU side are usually in much worse condition. I have found that the situation progresses once it starts and quickly melts both male and female connectors (you can usually smell the melting nylon as this happens). In some cases I've removed the hash boards, desoldered and removed the old PCI connectors, and soldered new ones on.
34  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: September 11, 2017, 01:52:53 PM
I believe they are processing pallet orders first.
admittedly we placed a pallet order and have been getting regular communication from Cannan

Will keep you posted.

How long ago did you place your pallet order?
35  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Rig setup - garage or basement? on: September 11, 2017, 01:43:01 PM
The units will only get condensation on them if they are turned off for a period of time (i.e. long enough to get cold). If the miners are left on then the condensation will typically form on/around exhaust vents, ducts, fans, or anywhere that warm air comes into contact with the cooler air from outside. If you have washer/dryer units in your basement or garage, that may be a good starting point in determining where not to mine.

I live in Texas and run a semi-garage setup in the late fall and winter months (semi because it really isn't big enough to be a garage). It's more like a room behind a large car port that's separate from the main house. The room is small which is good as I can use a single 10" inline fan to suck all the hot air out of room and pull cool air in from outside. It's also surprisingly quiet, but it probably depends largely on how thick your walls and insulation are. When you have a cold-weather environment and you invest in the correct size intake/exhaust fans, the toughest part really isn't controlling the heat but rather getting the necessary amount of electricity safely to that area.

I'm getting this error frequently. Just received it several times within 5 minutes of posting this message
37  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: September 07, 2017, 01:30:24 AM
Canaan,
Please consider changing your banner from "Sales Starts at 10 A.M. on August 31st" to something like "Preorders Starts at 10 A.M. on August 31st for September (insert date here) Batch." I think it would be an easy change that would save a lot of people from concern.
38  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: How to start S9 fans before the actual controller / boards (humid environment) on: September 06, 2017, 12:25:30 PM
You may be able to do something that's automated from a host server/computer. Assuming you've assigned them all static ip addresses, you could run a bash script (shortly after powering on all the units) that would ssh into each miner and run a command like "killall -9 bmminer"

If the fans are left running after killing bmminer then there shouldn't be much (if any) current running to the ASIC's. Once the fans have done their job you could just run a second bash script that would ssh into each miner and reboot it.
39  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: September 05, 2017, 03:38:35 PM
Has anyone received a btc address for the August 31st orders?

The right question could be "Will anyone receive a btc address?".
And if you have read some of the past few pages the answer is:
YES you will eventually get it. As repeatedly said here before this address delay is typical for Canaan.

I was merely wondering if btc addresses have even begun being sent out.
