21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] StarTrek insipred coins =) and mining links (Low Diff) Nice Bounties! on: October 17, 2013, 02:16:01 PM
Hello everyone.

We are looking at the darsek issue at the moment, and currently have not found the root cause of the issue.  I will be back intouch when we have an update.

As for the exchange, it has been delayed for at least 2 more weeks and more than likely 2 more months.  I told the current developer to stop working on the project after I found that he was lying to me.  Here is what happened.

The current Dev started work on the project on 4th Sept after the 1st guy did not have the skills necessary.  He was to work on the project full time, and he stated that he had done similar projects in the past and with this in mind he suggested a 2 week timescale.  I felt this optimistic but he was confident.

After 15 days he disappeared for 3 days and was not contactable.  He reappeared and apologized, stating the reason was personal, and that he would continue with the project with immediate effect.

on the approx 22nd Sept he stated that the main reason for the delay was bad planning.  He had planned to write the exchange from the ground up in Golang, and that he admitted this was not his usually language of choice.  He stated the problems were to do with;  the available golang bitcoin libs, being effectively buggy at best, and at worst broken.

He asked me at this point if I was happy to wait a little while longer and it will all be ported to Python,  a language that he has a vast experience with.  I agreed and at the end of September there was a working exchange.

However there were many bugs and many of the solutions were not immediately obvious.  He decided to rewrite elements of the exchange.  At this point (approx 1st Oct)  I was given 2 days estimate for completion.

The dev then disappeared again and resurfaced a few days later, stating he was sorry and will continue development straight away.  The reson was that a car had crashed from the street into his office.  I took this reason and allowed him to continue.

Around the 6th or 7th Oct I was told 1-3 days Maximum.  These days passed, and nothing.  on approx the 10th October we tested the wallets and all worked 100% he just needed to finalize the bugs in the exchange algorithm.  and Install the exchange at it's final destination.  I gave the deadline on Sunday 13th.

On Sunday he was apparently implementing the exchange and uploading it.  however I could see no activity on the VPS and then he stated he needed to visit family.  No probs I thought if we are so close.  He returned that evening but said he will need to complete tomorrow.

On Monday the 14th He was on Skype, stating he could not do the work so quickly as his internet speed is 80Kbps and he did not know the reason for the slow speed.

I checked VPS traffic and there was non.  I knew he was lying and was just buying time.  That evening he was on skype saying he was applying the finishing touches while uploading.  I had to logout of Skype and boot into linux said I would be back in 30 mins.

After 1 1/2 hours I returned to skype to see he had uploaded nothing and was not on skype, and no emails from him.  The next day he was also AWOL so I cancelled the deal with him. I was angry to say the least and I decided to cut my losses.

I feel bad, because I believe he was a very talented developer, but he has some real issues with time management and communication.  He seems to be a lazy genius,  coding what would take me 2 months in a week.  He's a procrastinator though.

He is a forum member so he is welcome to voice his side of events.  At present though I am not willing to work with someone that has this little regard for someone that is effectively his employer.   we were 6 weeks into a 2 week project and my patience was at it's limit nd he did not seem to give a shit.

As a result, I have some exchange code in Python that I do not know what to do with. But I will write the exchange from scratch in mainly PHP.  but this will delay it by a long time.

The good news is that I have asked Cryptsy to list the coins.  To which they have said they are interested in doing this, but we will need to wait for them to finish their work at the new data-center first.

I expect them to list each coin with exception of Darsek based on the current issue.  I want to say sorry to everyone involved with the coins.

and if anyone is a python expert then PM me.

Exchange Update!

Ok guys, this has been an epic weekend, and we have missed our ultimate deadline of Sunday.  So there will be a 1000 GPL giveaway.  I do not currently have 1000 GPL but will buy upto this amount after we launch.

I understand, people are frustrated by the exchange delays,  and I have given many reasons to people why we have not yet launched.

We thought the exchange was working, but we encountered an issue with decimal places and fixing this caused compatibility issues with various aspects and interactions within the code, this ran deep and the main dev has been working all weekend non-stop to get this fixed.

We are now at the stage where the functionality is where we want it to be and, the exchange can receive and send all coins, the 2 factor is working, and all bugs are ironed out. Basically the wallets are working and as secure as possible.  However this has meant we needed to rewrite the exchange algorithm.

I am not the dev on this project (nowhere near clever enough), but the lead dev is a very cleaver guy, and I have faith that we are very close indeed now, however we need to sleep and will be back to work in 8or9 hours from now.  I will not give a launch estimation as when I have done that in the past it has proven false and we encountered more issues.  But for you miners out there that are mining for the PC game competition I don't think you will have long to wait.

Just bear with us a little while longer and we will have some great things coming along.

23  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [COMPETITION] PC games for hash power! on: October 09, 2013, 08:34:50 PM
In the run-up to the SciFi Coin exchange opening soon, we are giving away 3 PC games.  1 x Crysis 3, 1 x Bio-shock Infinite and 1 x Far Cry Blood Dragon.   The moment the exchange goes public (not the private beat test) we will record the time and date.   Any miners active at this time at Dreamwatchers pools will be in the hat for a free game.

Here are the rules.

1. Every miner has equal chance of winning a PC game, regardless of past, current, or future hash rate / activity.

2. 1 Random miner at UFC pool at exchange live time wins.  EA Origin download code for Crysis 3
mine here http://ufccoin.com
3. 1 Random miner at KED pool at exchange live time wins. Steam download code for Bio-shock Infinite
mine here http://kedcoin.com
4. 1 Random miner at GPL pool at exchange live time wins. Ubishop download code for Far Cry Blood Dragon
mine here http://gplcoin.com

5.  Users that are splitting there workers into different usernames to get extra chances will be disqualified.
6.  The "live" time of the exchange will be chosen based on the time we choose. British Summer Time (BST).
8.  If you have been mining for a long time (IE a miner that has been mining before this was competition announced), and for what ever reason your hash rate at the exchange was 0 when the time was chosen...we will consider offering a small consolation in coins.
7.  The decision will be final.

8. Dreamwatcher has said he will offer a price as well.. 2 usernames to get 0% fee for life at the pools. Dreamwatcher will confirm the rules on this.

9.  These rules are subject to change at any time.
10.  You are free to sell on the codes as you see fit if not required.
11.  We are happy to use any random method at all for picking the winners/runners up.

Do people think I will need post in a new thread?

Any questions?

Good Luck

Hey SciFicoin,

sorryh to ask in this thead, i was wondering if Dollarpounds, Offerings, and Saurons Rings will be on the scifi exchange. i have save enought to give out some and sell some when the exchange opens.

j

Yes   Dollarpounds  (at launch)

Yes Offerings    (at launch)

No Saurons Rings.  The dev of the coin has never contacted me.  If they want these coins on the exchange they just need to start a conversation and we will definitely consider the coin.

Hey, scifi, what's about the progress of the exchange now

I +1 this. I want that Sci Fi Exchange bad!

The first stage of the roll out will be to a few people involved with the coin.  They will report obvious issues (if any).  I still have hope this will be tonight, but don't hold me to it.  Providing that all goes well the full official beta launch will be a day or 2 later. (all going well)

But I in the run up to the Public Live date we are launching a completion.

We are giving away 3 PC games.   Crysis 3,  Bio-shock Infinite and Far Cry Blood Dragon.   The moment the exchange goes public we will record the time and date.   Any miners active at this time at Dreamwatchers pools will be in the hat for a free game.

i haven't visited this page in a week, so i didn't have the new wallets when this happened, but the other day i lost 256 ked.  and GPL is running soooo much slower than before.

the difficulty is the same, so why am i mining less than i was all the sudden?? i mined 6 gpl last night and i had been getting 30+ in a night! it started doing this Thursday night(latest wallet)

im guessing that losing 256 ked fri night was the result of a fork?(i also lost what i was mining. i may have mined with the wallet not in server mode, all icons were"?")

If you are solo mining then, then it's all down to luck and latency to the network nodes also have an effect.  for example whe we started off mining GPL we used a 4 core i7 at 4ghz,  we mined about 250 blocks in a row and then nothing, and not a single block since. this is likely due to being on the peripheries of the network with a ping of over 200 - 300ms to the US where the majority of the nodes are.   The only way to stop this is to mine in a pool and then latencies do not matter as much.  If you are worried about a fork and losing coins as a result this is another reason to use a pool or at the very least detect blocks via stratum by adding the pool as your second  "fail over" pool in cgminer / scrypt-jane_GPU miner.

Also added dreamwatchers pool nodes as an addnode in your conf file.

Also don't forget GPU mining drops efficiency over time with scyrpt-jane coins.  From what i have witnessed it's about 40% drop at present in efficiency of GPUs.  A miner may be able to answer this question better, as I am not sure if the settings need to change over time.

dream, scifi, my issue with wallet that does not show up 100 GPL still not resolve yet, i try on clean pc with latest but no luck, any suggestions?

I think scifi may have to help you from here.

I can see the transaction in the block chain, and I do not understand why your client does not see it.

http://gpl.cryptocoinexplorer.com/transaction/9080146606ec4e864bf424c344634e0af0aa48af1839ed6ff5afc1f905af7202

scifi pls look into my issue also, it worst 500 blocks

More information would be good,  you originally said you were having problems with Ked stuck at 22622 block, now you said you have lost 100 GPL.  The thread is very large now and I don't have time to search for your post.

Please give us a little more to go on.

to start with;

What client version are you using?
Was it a lost transaction or have you moved a wallet.dat file?

Hello all.

It's been a strange week for crypto, ups and downs depending on your point of view.  But let not  get into politics!

An update for all the very patient miners.  We have been testing the exchange and all is working as we had hoped.  We moved to the final server location and suffered some issues, that were not experienced in testing.  This is likely due a version of software that is different from the testing server.  Some last minute debugging and we will be ready.

The problem is that the leading Dev has prior arrangements today that can not be cancelled, so we are looking at tomorrow or Wednesday .  I had hoped / expected the exchange to be in full swing by now, however these things never that simple.  Sorry to the miners but we are so close.

I don't want to become the BFL of exchanges so I will give a deadline today of... at the very latest Sunday.  Like I said we expect tomorrow or Wednesday.

If we fail to make this I will give 1000 (5000 blocks) of GPL to another trusted member to distribute fairly between the miners at the pools as compensation for the delay.  (This give away is only for miners that have already contributed at the (ked, ufc, gpl) pools).

The Grand Nagus has announced that the GPL issue is resolved.

He also told me that the 2% vs 0.02% has been resolved and that the best way forward is to stay with the 0.02% tx fee.

Splash screen fixed and checkpoints added. fully tested. TX fee 0.02%

Please delete your old clients,  and delete all the files (except wallet.dat) in the folder  C:\User\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\NameOfClient

This folder is hidden by default.  to show hidden files follow the flow guide below.
Start > Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Folder Options > View Tab > Show hidden files and folders

Do not delete wallet.dat

Is there something wrong with the wallet, that you want me to delete it? I need specific instructions, because I am not a wallet expert. Is there a sci-fi coin main website where you can make announcements like this, as it seems to get lost in the threads at the forums I think?

There will be a domain, but we are waiting for the exchange first.

Did you upgrade to the new GPL wallet yesterday?  If the answer is no, you don't need to do anything.   If you did upgrade to the new wallet / client all you need to do is the same process.

Basically whenever you install a wallet on your windows PC it creates a folder to wherever you have extracted the files.   This is your wallet (not to be confused with your wallet.dat)    When you first click on the executable file (the one with the GPL icon) in this folder it will create a second hidden folder called GoldPressedLatinum.     It can be found   C:\User\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\GoldPressedLatinum.  When you want to upgrade to a newer version you need to find this folder, and inside you need to delete all files (except wallet.dat) .   You also need to delete the other folder that contains the executable file (most people will have this folder on their desktop).    When you have deleted this folder and all the files (except wallet.dat) in the hidden (most people refer to it as the roaming folder),  you can then unpack the new client/wallet.  See the steps below;

1. delete the wallet folder (usually on the desktop & does NOT contain wallet.dat file)
2. navigate to C:\User\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\GoldPressedLatinum.
3. inside this folder delete all except wallet.dat
4. unpack new client that you have downloaded to where ever you want (most people use their desktop)
5. run the new client by clicking the executable file that has the GPL icon.
6. thats it,  now go grab a beer and celebrate.

---------------

Just a note;  The wallet.dat is what contains your information regarding what coins you own, and the information on transactions.  It is very good practice to backup this file and keep it in a safe location, ideally password protected & offline (eg. on a memory card, USB, cd, dvd and kept safe)   if anyone ever gets your wallet.dat then they can steal your coins.   I personally backup my wallets on 3 separate media and keep them off line.  You can keep these wallets that may contain $$$ safe and then you could happily delete the wallet.dat on your PC and when you load your wallet again it will create a new wallet.dat that will be empty.  This reduces the risk of loss. This is good practice for anyone with a lot of coins.

Advanced users - may want to store there wallet.dat in a different area of their PC. on windows this is done by opening the wallet using a batch file with the -datadir=d:\BitCoinData extension where (BitCoinData) is the name of the folder where you want to store the wallet data.

We will be rolling back and adding checkpoints without the TX fee update.

KED and UFC are unaffected

All but GPL is updating well. It loads and I'm still syncing with that one but I get this error at launch:

"Warning: error reading wallet.dat! All keys read correctly, but transaction data or address book entries might be missing or incorrect."

Looking into it now.  the update is not a hard folk so worse case senario you can revert back to the old client.

the KED 480 Block retarget is in the OP. Please update it as it seems that is incorrect. Also UFC doesn't list a retarget time.

Sorry that was me copy and pasting.  I was in a hurry when I posted this thread originally.  Now corrected the OP

I'm a fan of the coins myself well its the nerd in me that likes them Smiley I would like to list them are the devs opposed to this?

This offer has had me thinking all day.  The short answer would be Yes we would like the coins to be added to cryptsy.  However, we would like all 3 of our coins to be listed in a kind of "all or nothing".

Also If i could ask of the potential time scale?   Because we would very much like it if they were added to cryptsy after we have opened our SciFi coin exchange.

Please let me know what your thoughts are.
36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] StarTrek insipred coins =) and mining links (Low Diff) Nice Bounties! on: September 30, 2013, 12:14:58 PM
I already see a problem with one of the coins. KED has a retarget of 480 blocks. As soon as this coin gets added to cryptsy, it will be gang raped by miners, diff will be pushed SKY HIGH and it will languish in high diff hell. I think that this should be addressed before the coin goes on an exchange, I would like to see these coins succeed.

Where did you read difficulty re-target of 480 blocks?

If you have read it somewhere this is not correct.  If you have looked at the source code and determined based what you spotted, you need to understand KED is slightly different than most Scrypt / POW POS coins in that there are extra variables at play.

Retarget should happen every block.
37  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] StarTrek insipred coins =) and mining links (Low Diff) Nice Bounties! on: September 30, 2013, 11:38:38 AM
what is different between POWMined and POFMined?  Huh

What Dreamwatcher said essentially.

I like to simplify it personally.

POW = Mined coins

POS = Interest (usually 1.5% a year) on Mined coins.  Only payable if you have not moved the coins to another wallet or location.

To Scificoin: don't doubt yourself - your doing good work! I'm not a shrink, but my advice/opinion... Don't listen to these jealous types with their
Negativity( who's only putting you down - because you're accomplishing something their not) I'm looking forward to when you launch your exchange
I'm very curious to see how it will look(the final touch) "Warp Speed!"

To Scificoin: don't doubt yourself - your doing good work!

+1

Thanks Guys, this really means a lot to us Smiley

The new client with fixed splash screen and added checkpoints is now available.  Tested and fully syncing.

We are not aiming to compete with the these exchanges, we are not hoping to get rich quick. We wish to offer a secure, niche trading site for scifi enthusiasts, with the option of other services.  We will promote dreamwatchers pools as the official pools for the startrek coins (plus any other pools he cares to add that are related to scifi etc.).

If this is the case you should have left this off these forums and focused on scifi forums only. By bringing it here, you have everyone on these forums looking at this and your disinterest in attempting to be a part of the community.

"Disinterest in attempting to be a part of the community" Why are you throwing an oxymoron at us?  BitJohn said in the cryptsy thread around 28th August that these coins won't be listed.  We were already working on our own exchange before this anyway.  Why would we waste time on a potentially fruitless activity of lobbying cryptsy or another exchange, when it would be far more productive to work on our own goals.

It was said from the start we want to attract interest from outside the alt-coin world.  That was the whole idea, our love for scifi and trek was and remains the driving factor, and will ultimately be the force that makes these coins a success.  It's the one thing I hope ties us together.  I hope that the coins are loved by alt-coin users and scifi enthusiasts alike of course.

As for just adding these coins on trek / scifi forums only, thats great but it would mean we would not get any help from other developers.  They are taking the same risk of time and effort as with any other altcoin launch.   We are extremely grateful for the time and effort put in by Dreamwatcher and the miners, and we are sure they will be rewarded for there efforts.   I will personally be attempting buying a number of coins with my LTC or BTC.

Like it or not, there have been quite a few people mining these coins, expending time and $$$ to do so. At least a token attempt to contact the local exchanges for inclusion would be helpful, instead of coming off as too good for the community.

We would like to point out that we are not in direct competition with other exchanges as we don't offer the same coins.  In the same way Web money (RU+UKR+Eastern Europe)  and Paypal (US+EU+Australasia) are not in direct competition yet.  Some exchanges for example, list almost 75 coins in what seems like reverse Darwinism.  Lack of liquidity is bad for a currency, but lack of  fluctuation and frequency are not necessarily indicators of a problem, on the contrary, they can be indicators of the long term stability.   They may not be as profitable for the exchange, but that is why i said "we are not hoping to get rich quick.".    The premise that the price of the coins will suffer due to the fact they are not on cryptsy is flawed at so many levels.

My personal thoughts are that the miners of these coins, will be rewarded in the long term, I personally believe in their success and will be doing all that I can to help promote and spread the word.  Some miners are there to take a punt sure, but some are there because they believe the same as me that there is a future for these coins.  When the exchange opens the market will decide over the long term.  But if you believe they won't be profitable due to the fact they will not be listed on cryptsy you are mistaken on many a level.

When I said "we are not hoping to get rich quick." I was referring to us at the exchange.  so with reflection I will need to quote you, back at yourself.
You don't get it both ways.

Anyway thats it for now.  I have work to do. But please now use this thread for talking about the coins not arguing why I did not lobby cryptsy for inclusion.

As for the pre-mine, I personally want to spend it on 3 areas.

1.  To reward small time but loyal miners at the pools.
2.  To reward posts on trek and scifi forums explaining how to mine these coins and where to sell/buy them.
3.  give aways outside of the alt community to help bring in fresh interest from outside.

Do people agree?
