could as well be applied to Namecoin

Could.  But noone bothered to implement this.

because you need to trust a third-party again

No, because your client can be in the bootstrapping nodes list.

The proposed solution is decentralized because FBI the court is not able to force someone to change a DNS record.

Better to use the same phrase.

Nxt does.

At the moment  ~52,631,578 NXT for 1 BTC.

By the way, in addition to decentralized DNS Nxt will have decentralized file storage.  Nxt client will be hosted on the blockchain, updates will be published from my Nxt account (the same as the generator of the genesis block).  I hope my Nxt stake will be enough to push all planned updates.  The current version takes the same volume as 1280 payment transactions, that can be quite expensive to pay fees for storing 160 KiB.

Ten pages ago I wrote this

Let's try to do it such way

1]  Post here a link to your webpage (facebook, twitter, blog) that spreads the word about Nxt.
2]  Publish your Nxt account id.
3]  Wait for some coins from a donation pool after Nxt is launched.

I will set up the donation pool account right after the launch.

This is still actual.

Also a lot of sites are unusable via Tor.  Could you all help me with PR a bit?

Here is an announcement of decentralized DNS -- https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=323909.0

Namecoin has never worked because necessity to install browser plugins (or do other things like setting special DNS servers) ruined its brilliant idea at the very beginning.  I would like to announce a feature of Nxt that offers a solution to the problem.

The workflow is quite simple
1]  You send a transaction that states "ThisDomainName = ThisAddress"
2]  If you want to change the address then just send one more transaction

The domain name can be any string of Unicode chars.  The address can be anything like "173.194.112.174", or "2001:0db8:11a3:09d7:1f34:8a2e:07a0:765d", or "mydomain.com/secretpage.php?parameter=value", or "johnsmith@matrix.com", or "tel:+44-20-8123-4567", or even "bitcoin:1BTCorgHwCg6u2YSAWKgS17qUad6kHmtQW".

There are 2 main ways to use Nxt DNS without third-party plugins.

1]  Server-side.  A web server analyses Nxt blockchain and replaces nxt-links with corresponding addresses before sending HTML documents to users.
2]  Client-side.  A web browser runs a JS script that connects to Nxt bootstrapping nodes and replaces nxt-links.  This way requires to embed a small script and run it on "onload" event.  The script will do all the work via CORS, JSONP or other techniques.

As a side effect Nxt does not allow to transfer ownership of a domain to other accounts, so cybersquatting is not a problem.

Nxt will be released on the 3rd of January, 2014.  That day will be a day when we make one more step to truly decentralized Internet.

I insist that we should NOT use centralized DNS.  Usage of centralized services to support a decentralized platform is nonsense.  Nxt will support Unicode domain names in any notation (not only dotted style).

Hmmm, feel the same way....start to feel sorry for my BTC I invested Sad

Don't worry.

...if not with a domain of your own?

Decentralized currency with a domain controlled by the USA centralized entity?  Half measures is a way to failure.

Okay, maybe it is too early to announce but... Nxt will have the main Namecoin's feature -- decentralized DNS.

UPDATE

Added chained transactions support.

What chained transactions are.  Each transaction may refer to other transaction.  For example, a message-type transaction may refer to a payment-type transaction to describe what the payment is made for.  If a transaction refers to other transaction it can not be added into a block until the referred transaction is confirmed.

Chained transactions can be used in different ways.  A SatoshiDice-like service can accept unconfirmed transactions and do instant payments.  The only thing necessary is to refer a betting transaction.  If a bet is not confirmed (due to being double-spent, etc.) the reward paying transaction will not be confirmed as well.  Your homework is to think what else the chained transactions could be used for.

Most of us chose colored coins to be implemented in the first place.  I have to place Messaging ahead to get full potential of colored coins, so we will get both for the price of one Smiley.

I expect a lot of bitcoiners will join after they "taste" decentralized stock exchange.  Now it's time to think about mainstream.
36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Nxt] Gauging interest on Nxt banknotes on: November 01, 2013, 07:38:16 PM
None of announced services needs funding.  There was an idea to create a micro-device similar to Bitcoin Card, but I didn't find developers.  I want to fund a project that would help Nxt to go mainstream.

We have

Nxt / XNT
Precious / XPR
Bitcoin 2 / XB2

The core is ready, advanced features are in development and will be shown soon, time to think ahead.  The banknotes will be distributed after the release.

Esp with the small funds you have so far accumulated.
The plan was to accumulate users, not money (remember I asked for tiny amounts?)
40  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Nxt] Gauging interest on Nxt banknotes on: November 01, 2013, 06:32:36 PM
The banknotes can be used without downloading a client.  By the way, it is not necessary to download a client.  Just type an address in your web browser.

The first idea was to print booklets.  But they are usually thrown away 5 minutes later.  Would you throw away a dollar banknote with some advertising on it?  That is why an idea to add "value" has come.

P.S.  Maybe it is not a very good idea to print banknotes, but I have to spend a certain amount of money to advertise Nxt anyway.
