21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][AUR][MANDATORY UPDATE] Auroracoin - a cryptocurrency for Iceland on: March 15, 2014, 04:42:09 AM
Country's parliament holds meetings regarding auroracoin - it's gotten big.

I wonder what this "evidence" of it being a scam is. Well, actually I don't. If he had any evidence he would've told what it was.

Giving auroracoins away for free cannot be a scam. Makes no logical sense.
22  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: March 15, 2014, 04:38:12 AM
Why would AM settle for less? As long as miners are profitable they must keep buying the most power efficient chips on the market. I think AM can sustain $0.8 profit per ghs for much longer than one month. The miners' margins and pcb manufacturer margins will need to be eroded first before AM needs to worry.

Well yeah, but fc has stated that pricing will vary according to quantity and time of delivery (price will drop). Especially at the beginning, the chip amount will be limited by supply - they'll charge a higher price, but at some point supply may meet demand.
But even if we assume, there's an unlimited supply of chips, if AM ships 20 PH of chips in 1-2 months, they basically add 1/3 of the total network hashrate, effectively pushing the mining revenue down. After 1600 PH/s, a chip will make less than a 1/30 of what it would as a first-batch chip, no matter how fast AM churns out chips(!). And what about COMPETITORS?! - they'll blow up the total hashrate as well, so we're even talking a 1/60th or 1/100...
$1/GH/s all the way? I don't think so...
Not all of the way but much more than a month. Even if AM doubles current hash rate, I think miners' will still be profitable, especially the ones that bought AM chips. The AM miners will push out the less efficient chips from the market. The less efficient chip manufacturers will then have to drop their chip prices. This period should take a bit of time to play out, and AM should be able to keep generating supernormal profits as long as their chips have lower TCO during this period of maybe a few months.

anybody from DARK side wants to join light side of SUN? many usrs of us mine both DRK and SUN - as its different algos.

Oh, you think dark(ness) is your ally. But you merely adopted the dark; I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see the light until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but BLINDING!

LOL, we're getting poetic here!

25  Economy / Speculation / Re: Synthetic gold from LENR reactors could drive crypto to insane levels on: March 14, 2014, 08:09:25 AM
Cool, thanks! Problem is that I asked for people OTHER than Rossi and people who work with him. Nasa's papers also doesn't count. I checked that most links are from Rossi's team or have "scientific reports" like "if it's true, it would be cool" :-)

What is relationship between lenr and x-ray detection?

On AM value assuming $0.8 per ghs profit; at 200 PH production = 0.6 Btc per share. Anything more, we will be in Btc heaven.

Btw, it appears rockxie is testing real AM cubes? Which implies sample run is done.

We are testing immersion of Asicminer's cube miner, it's running well, so,both air cooled and immersion are ok, but which type will be choosed will condiser customer's demands and the cost of products.

28  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: March 13, 2014, 10:23:52 PM
The rumor is that batch one is already allocated. I expect sample devices, solo mining, and one or more bulk buyers.  We should resume Wednesday celebrations and T-shirt offerings by the end of next month  Cool

My estimates are for an upper limit to profit from this batch of XBT 0.06 per share*. Would that be sufficient to cause celebrations?

* Assumptions: 20 PH batch size, cost $0.20/GH, revenue $0.99/GH, XBT price $650, 400k shares: (20e6*(0.99-0.20)/650)/400000=0.060769
If those calcs correct, implies AM should mine instead of selling chips.

Why not both?

I doubt AM could ever mine with anything close to the targeted 1.6 exahash

Because 20 PH implies 50% of total hash = $400 Million in annual revenue.  Even assuming running costs of 50%, that is net $200 Million, equals about .8 Btc per share.

These are static calcs and changes if AM floods the market. Even in market flood scenario, AM would dominate if they mined at more than 50% of hash. The above calcs would hold true.

Disclaimer: I don't know the actual cost of running a mining farm.

Anonymity is important to people. I was disappointed the devs backtracked on their promise to implement zerocash. IMHO, Darkcoin is doing well and is ASIC resistant, plus mines much cooler. I hope drk considers zerocash protocol.

Full anonymity=scare mainstream

smart anonymity (ie vert and stealth wallets)= mass adoption.

what are these stealth wallets and when are they expected to be available??
Darkcoin is implementing decentralised coin join wallets now. Bitcoin proposal for stealth addresses via elliptic curve is being peer reviewed. Maybe, if we're lucky, stealth addresses will be out at next update. No negative reviews yet but I think it is a political hot potato for bitcoin and litecoin.

Ltex, if you are reading this, go checkout modded kgw implementation at darkcoin. Will put an end to kgw speculation. Bcx can test his theories on another lesser valued coin.

I don't see how darkcoin would be protected against time warp. It has retarget time 1 block and allows jump back in time for 6 blocks. Just generate 5 blocks stamped with long time intervals to get a low diff and then one block which gets you back to sync with official blcokchain. You get 40% of the official difficulty. Just repeat it until you get blocks almost for free so you can catch the official blockchain with your lousy miner. Then publish it and woohoo, your blockchain is now official blockchain.

All altcoins implementing 1 block retarget allowing blocks in the past are at risk.

Kgw at drk to be redone imminently. Btw, r u sure drk re target is 1 block? I thought 24 hours.
31  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | No Premine | 50% cooler/50% less wattage than scryp on: March 13, 2014, 08:48:40 PM
The kgw exploit is real.

The problem is that the software will accept blocks that are timestamped earlier than previous blocks, (for good reasons) up to the median timestamp of the previous 11.

Kgw counts these as very fast blocks and adjusts the difficulty up by its 20% maximum.  Once.   But you can use that once to roll the timestamp back after five blocks that are long enough to drive the difficulty 20%lower each.

So the exploit is to start mining your own block chain, time stamping several blocks into the future far enough to get the maximum downward adjustment of difficulty each time.  Then jump backwards in time getting the maximum upward difficulty once.  Rinse, repeat,  and your chain gets ridiculous low difficulty and you mine a whole lot of blocks while advancing your timestamp not much further than the main chain.

When the time in the main block chain catches up, you release your own chain and force a reorganization, which allocates to you all the coins mined for the last umpty ump blocks.

I'm in the process of rewriting KGW for our purposes. I've spend a few hours thoroughly going through the code and I think I can come up with a better implementation that doesn't have these kind of problems. DarkGravity?  Grin

I think that "Dark" must be in the name, it's better for the brand.

Bitcoin's número one issue is not altcoins, government or banks. It is ignorance. Airdrops solve this problem.

if u want a hand stress testing let me know what to do.. im up for finding exploits and getting them fixed so crypto is stronger

That's just the point LTEX and the other AUR devs are trying to avoid. They want all of this quiet because this is a short term, pump and dump at air drop situation. It has been explained to them by a few people that they are going to massively "air drop" a large portion of coins into an known unsecure chain.

Why?

Because they want to launder the premine only.

There are no long term plans for AUR.

Seeing the world through your own crooked perspective. But do go ahead and stress test kgw, I'm interested in seeing any weaknesses pop up. Stratum exploit closed off and checkpoints will be in place. I doubt you can do any real damage.

Does anyone know why the blockchain is all wonky? I was looking at the fundraiser address and couldn't find my donation. After comparing times I found it in http://explorer.darkcoin.io/tx/51b89879abdeaf32c6bded8303d42ea26e2e4513036da2b51fb3405ea2df8c1f#i0 but neither the from or to is correct and it says 86 when it was 75 which it also says.

Why is this blockchain so messed up even without darksend?

Any further on this? I'd like to understand.

Well, he didn't id himself so I don't think it was attention he was after. The video shows 40mhs from i7. Can't be real, right?
video is fake. he cut part of desktop on this video, and there is no evidence that he is mining darkcoin, or any other known coin. just ignore him, he post the same screen shots on other forums.
Thanks for the confirm. Got me worried for a second. Putting him on ignore from now. Thinking about it, if that was real, he would be making so much that he wouldn't tell anyone. And if he was trying to damage the coin then he would release it to everyone.
