Probably a lot of the reason why the developers abandoned the project due to lack of funds, lack of support, lack of operational knowledge so they just leave what they started. Scammers nowadays are really booming so I guess being scammed or fooled would be my biggest fear. But for me to handle it, I have to be more wiser and have to put a lot of effort about a project which I propose to get in to avoid getting scammed.

I disagree with what you said because not everyone who is holding a coins for a long period of time is being a fool. Because not all coins in the market are not worth holding for a long time. For me It depends maybe which of the coins you are holding and before you hold any coins you should know if it is worth holding for a long time or if not maybe that was the time you need to gave it up especially if the coin wasn't active from the market.

For us to avoid getting scammed, even the projects states their whitepaper as a good and look real. We shouldn't believe and fall immediately we need to study it first make some deep research about the project carefully so that we aren't going to be fooled.

Considering that market has a lot of projects to be offer, many are good but some are not. So my only fear which I really don't wanna experience is that being deceived or fooled by a scam projects. But through this we have a lot of things that can be considered to avoid getting scam, and always take a risk but we just need to take a long time digging about the project when where up to.

Assuming that if you want to invest first thing you have to do is to collect or gather information about the project you want to invest in. Take time to understand its platform and if everything stated in the said project is good you will now have the assurance that the technique you used will benefit and lead you to success
