I am trying to communicate with cryptography professors from Greek Universities.

Meanwhile:

@Jean Luc - we will be always in coordination with you, if we have to rewrite  everything in Java then this is what we will try to do..
@NxtChg , @jl777 - It seems that we cannot do this with you in the same team. I will try to find a solution so that you will work independently and we keep all options open (jl777 proposal, NxtChg and CfB's).

Not sure how I will manage this yet. I have to talk with other stakeholders too.

Please try to be professional, no need to waste resources like this!

Looks like jl777 is looking for some skilled developers to join his effort. His plan has merit. Watching with interest!

Guys with cubietrucks, may I ask you to direct me to some good forums about solar panels / autonomous power / DIY?

There isn't a whole lot of information out there on 5V solar stuff, but it's pretty straightforward anyway.

All you basically need is a load/charge regulator, a buffer battery and a fitting solar panel.

Then, if you can come up with a nice large battery pack behind the setup, it can basically run independently around the clock. Just disconnect the the large battery pack and charge back up on a sunny day.

Has anyone tried to install NRS on LG Smart TV set?

My OpenWRT router has way too little RAM, otherwise I would have gotten it on there by now.

davethetrousers, ebereon wrote an article on how to do solar powered forging with the Raspberry PI. You should collaborate to either add cubietruck instructions to it, or write an equivalent how-to article:

I guess the best way to explain it is (taken from Peachy on emunie forums)

Quote
"Think of the emu "ecosystem" as a giant ball tank.
http://25.media.tumb...jd5ryo1_500.jpg

Once your "inside" the ecosystem there are a fixed number of balls.  You can trade them around with each other and eventually there will be different colors (asset types) that will be freely traded "within" the ecosystem ball tank.   Thus hatcher-to-hatcher transcations are happening "inside" the walls of the ball tank and thus no need to expand (inflate) or shrink (deflate) the walls of the tank since there is "just enough" density so that everyone can transact easily (ie optimized level of fun).

The only way balls are added into the tank are by those wanting to "jump in" from outside the ball tank.  As they exchange fiat for balls (and no one inside the tank wants to sell them any of their balls) then the ecosystem senses this and creates new balls for everyone (50% to the hatcher / 50% evenly and proportionally to every kid in the tank based on how many balls they already own).  Once someone in the tank says "Yeah, I think I'll sell some of my balls for fiat" he places a sell order and it is distributed to the new kid who then gives him the fiat (with a minor txn cost to the dealer).

Lot of features NXT has planned (Decentralized P2P exchange, Secure P2P messaging system, etc.) has been implemented or will soon be in eMunie client. I know for sure that the messaging system and ENS(eMunie version of Alias) have been implemented in the client, as well as profiles and other social stuff. Don't follow NXT or eMunie as much as I used to as I have had classes start up again...so not sure what has and haven't been implemented in both yet  Undecided. I have and I can create a "Alias"(known as ENS in eMunie) in eMunie client which replaces my account number and I can do something like ["Jack" sent a transaction to "Jill"] instead of [13131ed1d2312312 sent transaction to 1343ldler2j3u3423] Tongue.  As someone who has had access to the eMunie client for the past month I find it enjoyable to just play around with. Don't use it as much though anymore as I haven't had much time on my computer.

I am someone that enjoys both NXT and eMunie though...as weird as it is  Grin

The above is a very simplistic explanation, but it allows a way to visualize how the system works."

Thanks for the info wakasaki808. The thing I don't get with eMunie is what happens when there is a mass selling (if stakeholders lose confidence for instance) which causes the price to drop. I remember reading that the system will try to prevent a price drop by buying up EMU if the price starts to go down, using some kind of reserve of currency (BTC, USD, other cryptos, other fiat? I don't know). However, this reserve supply can't be limitless, and once its limits are reached, the price will drop. However, once the price has dropped, it won't be able to increase again, because the eMunie system prevents it from appreciating more than 5% per year by introducing new EMU. So I don't see how Dan plans to avoid a situation of progressive depreciation coupled with inflation: when supply outweighs demand, depreciation happens; when demand outweighs supply, inflation happens. So how does this not end up with a ton of EMU that are worth next to nothing?

EDIT: I suppose I should be asking this on the eMunie forum.

If someone is interested in power consumption of a RasPI-Nxt node, here is my overclocked RasPI-NXT node with optimiced clocks an voltages + wlan adaptor:

Now the green people can calculate the power consumption of the NXT network if they would run on RasPI's Wink

Ebereon, you should consider writing these two article requested by salsacz for bounty:

Help Nxt by writing Articles

Is here anyone, who would write excellent and long articles about:

...

- How can you mine Nxt only with solar energy?

- Nxt + Raspberry (+other similar platforms (Cubietruck)) (can be different articles, also short articles) (0 energy  forging package)

...

You can make reservations on these articles.

Is this the fund for NXTcash?

I think that's a question for James, not me.  NXTcash is a project he is very interested in, I think, but it is only one of many projects that would be vying for funds from this account.

Alias NXTcommunityfund = NXT Account 13776816462073143763

I think the community fund is entirely separate from the NXTcash fund. See:

...

At the high level I think allocating the NXTfund one third to tech, one third to marketing and one third for tbd is what makes sense.
...

On the tech side, there are many new competitors and NXT already has in progress features that match or exceed almost all of them. klee has rightly identified zerocoin functionality as a strategic feature and put 1 million NXT of his to make it happen. I agree with him and as you know I am actively working on that project. What other significant tech features are needed to make NXT have everything it needs? At this point the only significant missing piece I see is a whole set of DAC's to combat etherium.
...

At the time of writing the 1 million Nxt from klee was already worth two thirds of the total community fund, only one third of which was allocated to new tech projects.

** Immediate Action **

Everyone, please take a minute to comment on the Nxt article on Bitcoin Magazine.

I made a couple comments that have been waiting for moderation approval for a while now. Question: do they allow URLs in comments? I made three comments, and only one has been posted so far. The two that haven't been posted had urls in them.

I'm not sure, about to have a few people head that way to comment.

I just tried again after removing '.com' from a url, and the comment has been listed. So it looks like they don't allow URLs.

Already tried three times. They keep deleting comments with links to nxtcrypto in them Undecided

I think it's URLs in general. I tried to post a link to bitcoinrichlist.com.

Help Nxt by writing Articles

Shorter articles/essays:

- Why should you invest in Nxt? (/Why should you invest in Nxt long term?)

- Why is Nxt so friendly currency?: (i) It *doesn't* have VC capital backing. ii) It *doesn't* have "slick sales guys*. iii) It *does* have smart devs and an increasing following.  iv) It *is* delivering its promises (more or less) on time.) - more about the community, people form all over the world, community funding, decentralized company - a world of free individuals who all believe in Nxt. 1200 pages in Bitcointalk

Nobody? This is quite open bounty before we ask people directly and make them by our own Cheesy

I could have a go at these two. I've already done some thinking/writing about why Nxt is a good investment (of course, I'd need to develop it further), and I've been following the community long enough that I feel I can write about it. When would you like them by? I'd need a few days at least. Possibly a week, depending on my schedule.

EDIT: The longer articles are beyond my experience level. I suggest anon, joefox or jl777 for some of them. And contact davethetrousers or ebereon for the solar power article.

Bounty announcement

1st one who implements a working (during 7 days at least) SMS-to-NXT gateway will get a bounty. Amount of the bounty will be considered by the community.

Deadline: 28th of February, 2014.

This could be very important for adoption of Nxt in the developing world where SmartPhones and/or computers are a rare luxury. This should be very high priority, with an accordingly high bounty.

I'm afraid that common people will see brushed metal or titan = silver.

marek3ball, how about designing a 3D render that is round like a coin but doesn't go for a traditional coin look? Perhaps using some of the colors/designs on http://www.nxtcrypto.org/ for inspiration?

This might help establish its 2nd generation / more than just currency appeal.

@Come-from-Beyond

Any news relating the mixing feature?

No news.

It's good news, right?

Depends.

If we have a solution, it's good. If we don't, then it isn't.

What's the current status? I dropped out the other day because I needed some sleep.

Here's the dev thread for integrating ZeroCoin/ZeroCash in top of Nxt using AM.
https://forums.nxtcrypto.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=701

There was also discussion on it in this thread over the past day or two.

NXT - 3D graphics: Update #04

Golden age is here. Grin

I know that new design is suggested, I will look at it too.

All 3d renderings are here:

Nice! Would love to see it with a green logo in the middle for Green campaigns.

Also, just an idea, but how about copper in the inner circle and border, and everything else gold? It would really make the gold logo and gold ring stand out.

Worth highlighting:

...

I appeal to the 50 million+ NXT holders to invest a small percentage into the NXTfund. 100% of the NXTfund will be spent to increase the value of NXT and it will do you more good than just sitting in your acct. Think of it as a cost of doing business. Of course, wait until you are comfortable with what the NXTfund is doing. PM me if you have any specific things you want achieved with your donation. Directed donations are fine.

...

I am projecting a few months into the future and assuming Asset Exchange clients are released, Account Control is done, etc. If NXT had half a dozen meaningful and significant DAC's running and working, we will be ahead of etherium in real world functionality and installed base, possibly before they officially launch!

If anybody has any other big tech piece that NXT needs in the next 6 months, please post ASAP. What I need help with now is figuring out what the most important DAC's to have are. I am looking for specific proposals for DAC's that will add the most value to NXT. I am still a bit unsure as to what exactly DAC's can do, but from what I can tell, it can do pretty much anything you can imagine. Even non techies can help with daydreaming about the ideal set of DAC's for NXT. Post ideas please!

I hope that Pin can keep track of all the suggested DAC's and if there are more than 5 of them, we can vote to which ones the community wants. I am thinking of 100,000 NXT bounty for each of the top 5 DAC's that are implemented. The sixth DAC is the NXTcash DAC that will be funded from klee's bounty.

...

I have to quote this... looks really long.. but important to read.

Cheesy For one, it shows why what you say here is a problem for poor miners but not for rich:

That's right.   With Bitcoin early miners have their ASIC equipment depreciate.  Furthermore,  to keep up with the mining they have to consume power, do maintenance and acquire new rigs.
37  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 31, 2014, 08:12:14 PM
not funny
it's seems everything is built up to make fat-cat elephant
i think after 3 years or 4 all nxt will be in few hands again.

Again, see my above post.
38  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 31, 2014, 08:10:34 PM
An account with 2 million NXT generated 28 NXT... the 50 million NXT guy generated almost 100k NXT lol

The concept is pretty flawed. Whoever gets the most coins makes most coins, how is that different from ASICs on Bitcoin? Someone care to explain?

See my above post.

Based on some of the comments in the past few pages, I'm reposting my PoS economy vs. PoW economy example. I hope this shows that the Nxt PoS forging system is as fair as it can be in a free economy, and is a big improvement over the Bitcoin PoW mining model. Wealth will always give you some advantages in any free economy, but at least in Nxt, these advantages don't come at the expense of the poor.
Pandaisftw also made some great points above regarding rich vs. poor in Nxt and Bitcoin.

"...

It seems to me that the distribution of wealth in a bitcoin economy can be altered much more easily in comparison to a 100% PoS coin economy simply because of the fact that spent coins do not somehow reappear in the wallet of the spender just because he happens to own a lot of coins.

..."

From a discussion in my FB page (I quote the other guy).
What are your thoughts?

Here's my take on it klee, complete with example economies.

That guy has some good thoughts, but he doesn't consider the fact that with PoW, due to economies-of-scale, it will always be easier for the rich to secure an increasingly greater percentage of the profit from mining. For example, the average joe will have to spend top dollar to buy one miner, but someone (or government/corporation) who has a lot of money can either buy them en-mass and receive a huge discount, or manufacture them directly at an even larger discount. This means that the little guy's slice of the PoW pie will get increasingly smaller because it will always cost him more to maintain his hash rate, while the rich who are already making a much higher ROI will always be able to maintain their advantage at a discounted cost.

In PoS the ROI is the same regardless of how much money you have. As a simple example, suppose we have a PoS network of 100 people, and they all have their accounts open for forging 100% of the time. The richest person has 5% of the total wealth, the poorest person has 0.01% of the total wealth, and everyone else has something in between. For simplicity's sake, let's assume this is a closed system and no new wealth enters the economy. Let's also assume the the richest person decides to be a "parasite to society and offer NOTHING back", i.e. he just sits on his 5% and collects fees from forging. Now, the poorest person doesn't have this option, so he decides to be industrious and starts a business that provides him a moderate amount of income that allows him to earn more than his cost of living/doing business. After one year in this economy the poorest person will still have no less than 0.01% of the total wealth thanks to the interest he earned on forging, and will in fact have gained extra wealth thanks to his successful business. Let's say he now owns 0.02% of the total wealth. Now let's look at the richest person. After one year of doing nothing except collect transaction fees from forging, he earns no more than 5% of the total interest from forging thanks to the way PoS forging works. However, he had living expenses, so we must subtract these from his earnings. Let's say he was wise and didn't exceed the amount that he earned from forging; however, when you subtract his expenses from his forging profits, his net income for the year is obviously less than 5% of all interest earned from forging that year. Since everyone else was also forging 100% of the time, this means his wealth has grown at a slower rate than even the person who earns just enough from his job to pay for his living expenses. Suppose this continues unchanged for the next 10 years. Each year the parasitic rich person's wealth grows at a slower rate than the basic forging interest rate, and each year the poorest person is able to increase his wealth at a greater than basic forging interest rate, thanks to his savings. This is just a little scenario to illustrate that in PoS, while the rich may be able to sustain their lifestyle by doing nothing but forge, their wealth will grow at a slower rate than anyone who has a job that can support their living expenses, so long as everyone is forging. Forging is a trivial task, so there is no reason why everyone shouldn't be able to forge. Who is rewarded the most in a PoS system? The industrious, just like in every other healthy economy.

Now let's take a look at a simple PoW economy. Again, let's suppose this is a network of 100 people, the richest person has 5% of the wealth and the poorest person has 0.01% of the wealth, and no new wealth enters the system. Lets be optimistic and assume everyone is committed to mining, and they all set aside 10% of their wealth to pay for mining hardware and electricity costs. The poorest person can only afford one of the newest ASIC miners, and since he is only buying one, he pays the full retail price. The richest person realizes that he can save a lot of money by manufacturing his own ASIC miners, and he can even sell some to the other members. So he sets up a nice little ASIC farm of 1000 miners for himself which he was able to finance for much less than full retail, and he pockets the money the poorest person and many of the other members gave him to buy one of his miners. So, at the end of the year, the richest person owns a large percentage of the 10% everyone set aside to pay for their mining costs,  and he was also able finance and operate his miners much more cheaply, giving him a much higher ROI. So the richest person has earned much more than 5% of all mining profits for the year, and the poorest person has earned much less than 0.01% of all mining profits for the year. The poorest person is a pretty industrious guy though, so he has his own business which has enabled him to earn a small profit, and he's doing okay, and he might just be able to justify upgrading to one of the new model of ASICs that the richest person is releasing for next year. His neighbor is not so industrious though, and he is thinking he won't be able to afford a new mining rig next year. Obviously, the richest person in this example is also industrious, because he set up an ASIC manufacturing business, but this is an opportunity that is only afforded to the rich. Lets say his neighbor, who is not quite as rich, and not as industrious, simply bought 800 ASIC miners from him at a 40% discount rate from full retail, and then sat back and did nothing all year except to be a "parasite to society and offer NOTHING back". Well, he is still receiving a MUCH higher ROI than the poorest person who could only afford one miner at full retail.

So, your guy was right in saying "the distribution of wealth in a bitcoin economy can be altered much more easily in comparison to a 100% PoS coin economy". It can be altered much more easily in favor of the rich than a purely PoS economy.
