21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Greatest cards for mining R9 270, R9 280x, R9 290, 7990, etc. on: March 21, 2014, 01:01:33 AM
I'm just looking for people's opinions on what the best card is and why.  I have some rigs right now, 3 are running 5 x R9 270 and one is a mix of a 270x/270/7950.  I'm looking to do two more and was considering going with R9 290's as they've come back down in price a little and are readily available.  That, and they are one of the higher-end cards, so hopefully they'll retain most of their value.

I know Gridseed has far less wattage / kw, but I'm concerned with resale value; GPU's are GPU's and have another main use besides mining while Gridseed's are used only for mining.
I can resell GPU's later for close to what I paid, Gridseed becomes worthless when new hardware comes out.  That and I only pay like 0.06 / KW.
22  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [AUTO SWITCH] ScryptGuild (BTC Guild) Beta - Multipool Done Right on: March 09, 2014, 06:44:13 PM
For scrypt mining, the KH is not as important as your WU/m.  You should be within 90% of your KH ideally, but 600 kh for a 7950 is good.

You are paid based on the previous work as well, so the balance will continue to rise over the next 5 hours if any blocks are found for that coin during the period.  Go to PPLNS stats, and then details to see exactly what you have earned per hour.

I don't get why people have such high reject rates either, I have 2 setups at ~0.3-0.5% after 24 hours on this pool!  Scrypt doesn't use nearly the bandwidth of an ASIC miner.  Make sure you wait several hours before getting a reading.  Even when doing a fresh restart, some of the first few shares come out as duplicate/reject/stale.

How long do transactions typically take to show up?  I have 3 payouts from mining this coin waiting to show, for over 6+ hours now!
24  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGWatcher 1.3.4, a GUI/monitor for CGMiner & BFGMiner to help minimize downtime on: January 28, 2014, 08:55:54 PM
Anyone know if this supports SGMiner?
25  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 7950 Struggling to break 420 KH/s on: January 26, 2014, 09:18:19 PM
Thanks atp, I just spent the past couple hours switching over to SGMiner and tuning the settings in the program.  I feel like an idiot, but I'm pretty sure I just had them labeled wrong  Grin  In device manager the 7950 is listed first, then the 270x, even though the 270x is in the 1st PCIe slot  Huh   Right now, I have each card in a separate instance and they are sitting ~460-467 and 600-608 respectfully, which is right on par with their estimates  Cheesy   My clocks ended up being 1055/1500 I 21 and 1160/1690 I 23

I wanna know, what is the powertune option really used for?  In what I found online, it basically seemed to provide extra voltage to the card when needed and everyone's config file has +20%.  That's what I started with, but as I dropped it the stability and speed increased so both are -20% now!
26  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: XFX 7950 & 7970, are they any good on: January 26, 2014, 04:50:16 PM
the-eskimo, you say TeamViewer drops 80-100 kh/s per GPU?  How did you test this, with reported pool hash rates?  I'm getting a good rate from a 270x, but shit from a 7950 and I wonder if that is the issue.  Would just HDMI-->TV cause a rate drop like you say?
27  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Issues with ASUS 270x mining Litecoins on: January 26, 2014, 04:47:14 PM
I would change your worksize to 256 from 512, change the thread-concurrency to 20400, and the intensity to 19.  Let me know how that works for you.  I have a Sapphire R9 270x, but these settings net me ~510-520kh/s stable.
28  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sapphire 7950 won't reach 600 kH/s on: January 26, 2014, 04:24:08 PM
Like the others said it is not your CPU.  Others with 6 GPU rigs have no problem running a low-end Sempron in them, I doubt that's issue.

I'm having issues with my 7950 also   Undecided  My intensity is at 20 though, anything less and my hash rate barely breaks 400...
29  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 7950 Struggling to break 420 KH/s on: January 26, 2014, 04:17:30 PM
Late last night I reinstalled the drivers + app sdk for both cards and rebooted, ran a steady 560 KH/s on the 270x and only 420 on the 7950 all night (still on).  I messed with the clocks through cgminer, but the highest I could get it to run steady with no driver crashes was 1000/1500 @ 21712 concurrency and I 20, powertune 20.

Some people say 7950's shouldn't go over I 13 either because of mad HW errors, is that true?  When my intensity is at 13, my hash is barely 320 KH/s.  At I 20 I have no HW errors all night.

I somehow don't think I will get more than this though, either the cards just been OC'd to shit before me and/or ran real hot.  Most people seem to get ~600 kh/s on these cards with those exact settings, or even less.

I did buy this off eBay which could explain it , but the seller sent me his settings (above) and said it should hit 580-600+ easily....  He didn't have an exact model number listed, but the device_ID in my device manager does match up to a 7950.

All the info he had listed was this "This is an unreleased 7950. I call it a 7950 LE because it only has 1596 shaders instead of the 1756 shaders of a normal 7950 other then that it's a normal 7950 with 3GB RAM 384bit 925mhz core and 1250mhz memory. The card overclocks good.  I used it for litecoin mining for awhile and was able to get 600 Khash very easy."
30  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining Rig Compromised - HELP on: January 26, 2014, 03:54:43 PM
You need to get a program and see what is set to startup with Windows.  Are you using TeamViewer to control this desktop or do you have it hooked up to a monitor?

Not having it activated can cause issues, why isn't it?
31  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Cgminer config file for 2 separate cards (R9 270x and 7950) on: January 26, 2014, 07:46:36 AM
Hmmm, I can't set my thread concurrency that high.  Nothing over 21712 runs, the display driver crashes.  With the clocks changed to what you suggested scrap it actually lowered my hash rate too, down to around 360 kh/s...  I've also noticed higher results running each card separately then in 1 instance; don't know if this is just temporary, I'll have to run it over night and see where it averages out to.

Should I try different drivers then 13.12 ?
32  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Cgminer config file for 2 separate cards (R9 270x and 7950) on: January 26, 2014, 05:47:00 AM
I reinstalled all the drivers and I'm running 565 on the R9 270x and 460 on the 7950.  I had tried installing MSI Afterburner beta 18, but immediately afterward my R9 would barely hit 200 KH and the 7950 was hopping between 350 and 430 so I removed it.  I'm just messing around in CGMiner's settings right now and manually changing the values, but I'm still not getting anywhere close to 600+kh I was expecting from the 7950.
33  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / [SOLVED] 7950 Struggling to break 420 KH/s on: January 25, 2014, 11:36:56 PM
[Fixed!]  I switched to SGMiner and pretty sure I had them labeled incorrectly  Tongue

I have 2 cards up and hashing away, but I cannot get my 7950 above 420 kh/s.  The 270x is at 550 solid which is what I anticipated, I found these settings on reddit.  Any higher would be better though~!

I've messed with the clocks a little, it is set to 1000/1500mhz right now.  Won't go any higher though (saw some push it to 1100/1700; mine locks the system up and crashes)

Using latest AMD drivers + sdk also.

Here's my settings, Sapphire DualX R9 270x is GPU 0, AMD 7950 is GPU 1.

I have an AMD 7670HD + 6520G APU in my laptop that runs ~80 kh/s with no fan noise (on a cooling pad) or slowdown.  I use to run multiple D3 bots on this comp, fairly solid computer.

It seems like everyone uses 1x to 16x risers, even if its plugged in to a 16x slot.  Should I expect any issues with my GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3P if I use the USB powered risers here http://www.magicgrowing.com/bitcoin-mining/pci-e-powered-riser-card-100cm-40-usb-cable/   ?  I only have a 7970 and an R9 270 right now, just looking to open it up some more.

Two completely different mining topics.  I have 2 of those cubes and also just started building a rig.  I snagged a 7970 and R9 270 so far, along with all the other needed parts Smiley  Should be here Monday.

What mobo and psu were you planning on running?  If the cards are $586, your looking closer to the $900 mark to get everything else.

How do you set up solo mining?  My client is syncing right now, but I'm not sure about joining that pool...

The USB miner's are past their prime in terms of hashing power, the difficulty is too high.  Your better off turning them to an altcoin and trading into BTC.
