According to the information from the same thread, unfortunately 11.7 and 11.8 have a bug that causes 100% cpu utilization on a core.  This may be causing the loss in performance.

I am running the catalyst 11.7 pre release drivers and while my system objectively seems more stable it still crashes on youtube or vlc. But i got like.5-1 mhash/s better than with cataylist 11.6 hope that helps at all. I think the above poster is right and it will be resolved in 11.8

It's a known issue with the 6000 series cards.  AMD hopes to address it in Catalyst 11.8.

Have you tried the java-based bitminter?  The author is very active on this forum and has a very nice miner.  The pool is small and he is paying 5% bonus until the 60th block has been found.  So far, we've found 3.

How long is the warranty for Saphire cards?
25  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ebay under bidding to run up Radeon prices on: July 27, 2011, 06:39:23 PM
Ebay began using asterisks to mask user names.  What you're seeing is normal.

I don't see how someone can place a lower bid after you've placed yours.  The system doesn't allow you to do that.

I think the "Power Control" allows the card to pull more current if it needs it.  It won't make a difference if there is not need for extra juice.  I was just lazy and my temps were low enough that I didn't tinker with it.

I don't know if there is an equivalent setting in Ubuntu, but make sure the "Power Control" setting in AMD's Catalyst driver is at 20%.  I have a single XFX 6970 running at 950 MHz and 420 Mhps with a temp that hovers around 70 degrees.  If I set the "Power Control" to 0%, my speed drops when I go over 900 MHz.

That's a very good configuration.

I also have a XFX 6970. Clock @ 950, but my Power Control is at 5% getting 423Mhps. Runs about 70 degrees with the fan at 65%. I didn't see any increase when I moved the power control beyond 5%.

I got a nice boost when I switched from GUIMiner to bitminter miner.  It works really well for 6000 series radeon cards.  I was at 400s with GUIMiner and now I'm in 420s with 0.2% stale/rejected shares.  The author is very active on this board and is constantly adding features that users want.

Did you swap the cards or the monitor cable?  With 2 cards, my computer only outputs signal from one of the cards.  Have you tried moving the monitor cable from port to port?  Again with my computer and DVI, I have to turn off the power before moving the monitor cable.  If my computer is one and I move the monitor cable to the right DVI output on the right card, I don't get a signal until I turn the compute off and on.

Thanks for your response!  I do believe it's plugged in correctly...  I can even switch the video cards and it still won't boot.

Here's the CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103194

I'll toy around with it some more, maybe I just need to find the right combination of cables plugged in where...

30  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: bitminter.com * 150 BTC promotion * mine 6-11% more bitcoins! on: July 25, 2011, 05:34:57 PM
another request:

How about Total Proofs of work and proofs of work this round.  I was kinda expecting it to reset after the last find.

have a few friends now using your client... Great Job.

I agree.  It would be nice to have two totals, one for the current round and one for the lifetime of the miner.  Since we don't know the current number of proofs in the round, it would not help the poo hoppers, right?

It would also be nice to have an autostart minimized feature, something like GUIminer.

As I promised, I want to make a donation since I just got paid for the previous round.  Have you implemented voluntary donations?  You have and continue to put a lot of effort into your miner and pool and I want to show my appreciation and encourage you to keep doing it.

Is the Mhps on my account setting supposed to match the speed reported by the miner?  My account shows 378.182 and does not change when I hit refresh, but my miner's speed rarely dips below 420.

Try using another video output when the computer is off.  I have two 9800 in SLI, but only one card has the video signal.  With DVI, I have to turn the computer off before changing the ports.

$15 for shipping?  That's more than 10% of the card's price.

Can sometimes take a while. Leave your bitcoin client open and be patient, it'll show eventually.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I'm understanding this correctly, I have to leave my bitcoin wallet client up and running in order for it to receive payouts/payments?

Yes, but you don't have to have it running all the time, only when you are expecting a payout.  I also had this issue with my slush payout and being a newbie I thought something was wrong.  I opened my bitcoin client and let it run until my payment was confirmed.  After that, I closed the bitcoin client.
35  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: bitminter.com - earn 6-11% more bitcoins! on: July 18, 2011, 02:26:58 PM
There is a lot of empty space when the miner is in performance mode.  I think it would be helpful if the number of work units accepted was also displayed there and maybe the rejected units if space allows.

I have another suggestion.  I only use my GPU so I have removed the CPU and total work windows and resized the window to only show the graphic card.  The problem I have run into is that when I go back and forth between performance and "pretty" modes, the window resizes with a large blank area in the middle.

Hmm, looks like it's making room for the devices that have been hidden. Added to bug list - thanks!

There is one more thing.  When I restarted my computer and the client, the CPU module and total module were back.  I think it would be better if the client remembered the state of modules for subsequent runs.

I was getting around 405-410 with GUIMiner, but now I'm getting 415-420 with the bitminter miner.  According to the miner's programmer, it's optimized for cards with vliw4 (Caymen based cards), but he's working on vliw5 cards (older cards).
39  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Normal stale / reject ratio or percentage on: July 15, 2011, 04:46:27 PM
I use GUIMiner and mining.bitcoin.cz (Slush's pool).  I don't think this pool has long polling.

I just switched to bitminter.com and try it for a week or so to see if there is a difference.
40  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Normal stale / reject ratio or percentage on: July 15, 2011, 04:38:28 PM
Seems a bit high? I've been on this for about 4 days or so and I'm 36099 with 167 stale or about 0.5%

Does the mining pool affect this rate?  I'm using Slush's pool.
