21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WAVES network SHUTDOWN without any Announcement !!! on: June 29, 2016, 03:51:26 PM
how is it possible to shutdown all nodes for maintainance ? Are all nodes run by the devs ? Can ordinary people run nodes ?
22  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NEM - Totalitarian Censorship & Poorly Run Community on: June 29, 2016, 10:43:37 AM
What you call effectively a few months was about half a year. With multiple extensions.
Poor communication is also complete and utter crap. We posted on all forums, and linked to those postes on all channels, PMed everyone on btt twice and even sent messages through NXT to the accounts we knew hadn't registered yet. We didn't have e-mail addresses. That's not mentioning the 100s of pms I answered to people that actually spent 1 minute to just ask if something was unlcear. So what beyond that would you have expected ?

Redepmtion didn't go perfectly but you are making it sound way worse than it actually was. You say there are at least 30 people with your problem. Well there are over 1000 that redeemed without any problems.

You got banned from the forum probably - and this is really just a guess - because you opened multiple threads like this and posted about this topic in every active thread you could find even if the thread wasn't even remotely related to redemption. At some point cleanign up after you in the forum is going to be too much of a hassle. I'm making this guess because i thought about banning you twice but then didn't do it. I guess someone else just finally had enough.

So the plan afaik is to turn the lightwallet into a fullfledged, feature complete client and discontinue NCC down the line.
At that point you have 2 scenarios:

1) People that aren't very technical can just download the lightwallet fire it up (and it'll work without anything because you literally only need a browser) and connect to a server that's already running somewhere on the planet (hence the supernode program).

2) People that are more tech savvy will run their own Servers to both support the network and be even more secure. In day to day life though when they're only making tx they'll also only be using the lightwallet.

This will kick the usability up a considerable step.

It should have been done a long time ago but manpower is limited.

Please don't.
Because the standalone didn't work on my old PC I tried the light wallet and I had a very hard time with it and even more to remove it from my system. Without the standalone I can not use nem anymore.
Always keep that Standard solution.

How can you have a hard time removing the light wallet from your system? It's just deleting a few files since there is nothing being installed.
Are you walking about the installer ?

Hope we see a downloadable QT style wallet for windows /linux/ mac

That's what I  hope to see comming one day.
I have always a fight till nem is running on my always outdated browsers with all this nasty java (always wrong version)
Don't understand how ppl can like java/browser systems.
But I am not complaining. It looks good once it is started that I have to give.
Just sold my first few nem's and I am very happy.  Cheesy

A QT wallet for NEM is never going to happen unless someone from the community builds one.
What's being worked on are thin-clients that basically only use web technologies like html and js.

Will there be a XEM windows wallet? - non browser based

I believe so, but browser based makes it easier to run on any OS.

the browser version sometimes is hard to sync

OK, i have not had any issues with it, but the whole idea of supernodes is to allow you to run a lite wallet on your device and connect to a node on the network.
This will be a huge step forward.

is the lite wallet secure to use?
Havent heard any security issues with the lite wallet.

Obviously you need to trust the server you're connecting to since it's watching the chain for you and could theretically lie to you about it's contents. So while it could not steal any of your funds it would theretically be able to trick you into think e.g. a tx is there when it really isn't.

To be clear: This is not a specific problem with NEM. In any blockchain if you're not keeping track of it yourself you have to trust the party that does this for you.

Time to reduce the 3 million limit for supernodes

Yes, and time to reduce fees for transfer.

I agree on both. As much fun as this rally is, it's not healthy and lowering the supernode required balance will add more XEM supply and more nodes will come online. I hope everybody is ready for an epic crash because with a spike like this, it's not a matter of if but when and how low will it drop back down. Hold onto your hats! Since my position is SUPER long I'm just going to grab some popcorn Cheesy

thankfully the limit for supernodes can be controlled without doing anything to the chain so it should be possible to adjust for such rallies (and then possible drops) relatively quickly.

I'm curious why this coin with the large-cap not having normal Windows wallet? (That does not require installation of Java Oracle).
Is there a  POS income for the owners NEM?
You can earn  transaction fees by harvesting blocks.
There is also the node rewards program currently running.

The wallet can be rewritten in C++ if needbe, and indeed this transition is already being done with catapult. But take note that alot of currencies are now written in java.

I think that if this coin wants to gain popularity and get the attention of major investors, the development normal wallet is important.
For example the success for Ethereum came after they released a normal wallet for the Windows platform.

I don't think it needs to be the main focus but a better client is definitely direly needed. Afaik it's being actively worked on though.

I dream of a FIAT/NEM  - NEM/FIAT link for dummies like "anycoindirect.eu"  offers it for some coins.
Send money - get coins or send coins - get money. Via bank account or even paypal. This would be suitable for most of the people.

For me and most of non-crypto-people the polo-way is a risky one (lack of knowledge/experience).
Register (polo) - send xem - sell xem/buy bitcoin - register (Kraken) - send bitcoin to Kraken - sell bitcoin against € and then send € to my bank.
To many chances to make mistakes and lose money

Yeah, everyone finds that process way to cumbersome. It's a gernal problem in crypto land. I'm hoping Apex will help us out.

Has the silver coin idea been permanently put to bed by now or is it waiting for some asset exchange action?

It is neither. As you know NEM is always prudent with the things it does. We are not ready yet as we need to make sure that we have the right governance in managing this.

So, we are still looking at how to do this, especially you know how hard it is to manage physical assets in a decentralised cyber set up like ours.

Personally I'd wait until NEM has an AE so those silver coins can be issued as mosaics and redeemed or sold. This would of course mean that it wouldn't happen for another while but it seems like the most logical way to do it at least to me.
Technically they could be issued right now since mosaics are already in place but without an AE it seems rather point less. Of course it would be totally fine for people that want to redeem i.e. get that physical silver coin.

I realize that this does not solve the governance issue.

Another thing to consider is that there is probably a good chunk of original stake holders that no longer have access to their original account. I wonder if it's even worth to issue mosaics to those accounts. I guess it wouldn't really matter but I still somehow feel like that would be a shame. No biggie - just something to consider imho.
30  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: June 20, 2016, 04:47:49 PM
I'm a Nem stakeholder from the very beginning and pleased about the current Nem growth.  I'm not really familiar with cryptos and how to deal with.

Questions:
Can someone provide a XEM-escrow service to avoid usage of exchanges? Or is it already available?
(Exchange means: create an account, send XEM to buy bitcoins, send bitcoins to an exchange which sells bitcoins against Euro or USD, verify identity, then send money to my bank account) This is not user friendly (and discourages people).
Or can I find private buyers/sellers (or a platform for sellers/buyers) inside the NEM community?
Or any other idea, which simplifies the procedure?

And btw - this is what I found about a special way of encryption.
http://users.telenet.be/d.rijmenants/en/visualcrypto.htm
a.m. link is about visual cryptography. Might be this technology (two layers) could be used for encryption for low (secret) data quantities (like private key).
Will probably make a test run (engraving polished silver bars) to test if and how it's suitable for silver coins.

Right now I don't know of any way to get from XEM to FIAT.
Looking for a private buyer may not be the worst idea. Of course you need to find someone trustworthy.

Here from nem at Twitter

http://www.meti.go.jp/english/press/2016/0531_01.html

Japanese government nem Grin

The report however uses word "node" in an ugly (for crypto currencies interested person) fashion...
Take a look at this paragraph (others about PoS, PBFT are written in the same way, so at least it's consistent)

Quote
PoI refers to a method to cluster(39) nodes through transaction graph analysis(40) using transaction
amounts and balances of individual nodes as indicators, calculate the significance of each node, and
assign priority in hash calculations (assign easier hash calculations) to more significant nodes.
Clustering is supposed to make it possible to detect nodes that are likely to commit unlawful
transactions. PoI is adopted in NEM.

Now translation for normal people:
Quote
PoI refers to a method to cluster(39) accounts through transaction graph analysis(40) using transaction
amounts and balances of individual accounts as indicators, calculate the significance of each account, and
assign priority in hash calculations (assign easier hash calculations) to more significant acconuts.
Clustering is supposed to make it possible to detect accounts that are likely to commit unlawful
transactions. PoI is adopted in NEM.

It's awesome that PoI was in the METI (経産省) report! Unfortunately, their explanation of PoI is not really correct. Importance refers to the graph theoretic importance of an account (in the netted, directed transaction graph). NEM uses hit/target values to determine harvesters, so I don't think "assign easier hash calculations" is correct. Clustering is used not to detect nodes that can commit "unlawful transactions," but rather to help prevent link spamming as part of the NCDawareRank algorithm.

Maybe you should tell them that Smiley
33  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LSK] Lisk | Blockchain Application Platform for JavaScript Developers on: June 02, 2016, 06:07:21 AM
LISK is a crucial moment in the crypto world. Just have patience. Or sell and get out of this thread. Only morons and day traders don't get it. JS and block/side chains. It's a golden mine. All idiotic mumbles lean to $2. Wrong estimations.

I'm neither a moron (i guess that's up for debate) nor a daytrader and I don't "get it" either.i can give you sound reasons for why I didn't invest in Lisk. So hold your horses there because I think there are plenty of lurkers in this thread who are on the edge about the project or just wanna see where it goes without investing. Your attitude however is nothing but damaging. Just sayin...

It is a good ALT ?

We are better than any ALT, NEM is coded 100% from scratch, no BTC clone here!  Grin

Come to think of it. Soon NEM will be coded from scratch. twice! Smiley

talking about supernodes
i have a question: can i run 2 or more supernodes from same IP address?

Well the point of Supernodes is to have a very strong, worldwide distributed, network. So there isn´t a point if we all could just do a couple supernodes from the same place. Not for nothing there is a "guaranteed" payout, as long you pass the tests, which gives incentive to people starting a Supernode.

To make it short, no.  Wink
honestly, i don't get it. why two supernodes standing side by side is bad, then one is good for network stability?

Supernodes should spread on the planet as much as possible. It is supposed to be a decentraliced network.

It is obvious)
but how two my supernodes prevent other people to turn on their supernodes all around the planet?
And if i take one node in my friend house nearby, would that be ok?

your two don't prevent anyone rom running their supernodes. However 2 supernodes under the same ip / same home uplink are not as valuable to the network as 2 supernodes in 2 different locations which is why only one should be subsidized by the rewards.
Yes that would be okay. 2 boxes, 2 uplinks, 2 ips, all good. (and frankly noone would do the investigating to ever find out about that)
36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NODE Revolution "Your money - your way" -Temp. discussion thread- on: May 27, 2016, 06:00:39 AM
What key features did NODE have anyway? Can someone give me the eli5, please?

-Instant transactions
-Payment processor
-Lightweight blockchain (no empty blocks)
-Very scaleable network done with Node.js
-Integrate with other cryptocurrencies in the wallet, first BTC, later some others
-Integrate with fiat currencies in the wallet, Euro, USD etc.. through NODEbank

He asked what features is actually had not what was promised.
I don't mean to hate but 80% of that stuff never actually happend and the rest is questionable because there never was a proper technical explanation.
37  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LSK] Lisk | Blockchain Application Platform for JavaScript Developers on: May 25, 2016, 06:08:03 AM
Interesting price development this night!

Classic launch chart, with a peak when first coins come in and than a consolidation phase. In Lisk case it hit about 2x ICO price this night and than bounced to 3x. Now it is rising again (65k satoshi).

I'm still planning on using my coins to join profit sharing pools, but if the price is right I may part of a piece of my stash.

Where are you watching it ?
It seems there is something wrong on CMC. At least it look weird and I wouldn't have expected Lisk that for down.

Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question as I'm not a programmer
What are the advantages of recoding nem from Java to c++?
Why is this such a big deal?

That's not really what's the big deal but to answer your question - if done right the performance and efficiency advantages can be pretty massive.
39  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What to expect for Lisk ICO investors. on: May 22, 2016, 11:31:39 AM

Great News! Glad I bought some more XEM at nxt AE when it was cheap. So I have more than one untouched Stake now...

Rock solid for Months now. I like the slow growth, it's much ore substantial than ETH.

The stakes on the NXT AE still valid?

Nope, I don't think so.
