21  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What Behaviors Lead to Gambling Addiction on: November 27, 2015, 03:27:34 AM
I would like to get some personal opinions for a class I am taking and I would like to know what behaviors lead people to develop a gambling problem.  Some people will start gambling for fun and others will start gambling thinking they are going to strike it rich.  I would like your opinions as to why this happens.
Traditional drinking and drugs along with those who like games of recreation and fancy are behaviours that can lead towards gambling. After a while that becomes greed and turns into a problem, especially for those with addictions or poverty.
Basically gambling starts slowly for most then reaches higher tiers, depending on a persons life situation their attachment to it variates.
22  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why some platforms need X confirmations? on: November 27, 2015, 03:19:54 AM

If bitcoin transactions are irreversible, why some platforms (online wallets, exchanges, etc) need X confirmations to "validate" a transaction?

To prevent a double spending attack, at times the network can take more than 10 minutes to validate the transaction and if a block is not found quickly then in order to ensure that their is no mistake between two different communicating transactions to different addresses being propograted exchanges use 1 to 3 confirms before confirming the amounts.

24  Bitcoin / Press / [2015-11-26] The First BTM Opens in Finland’s Largest Shopping Centre Itis on: November 27, 2015, 02:59:48 AM
Today, November 26, 2015, Finnish leading BitcoinCT r:  6 companies Bittiraha.fi and Bitcoinkaupat.com opened the first Bitcoin ATM in the largest shopping centre of Finnish capital. The Bitcoin ATM (BTM) network building is not just a hobby for Bitcoin companies in Nordic countries, now they make serious steps to make Helsinki the Bitcoin capital of Europe.

Today citizens and guests of the capital have the opportunity to buy and sell Bitcoin using a new two-way BTM located on the second floor of the Itis shopping centre in East Helsinki.

"Itis is one of the highest profile locations possible where you can install a Bitcoin ATM,” wrote Bitcoinkaupat.com's Aleksi Vitakoski in the official press release. “If my hunch is right, this will be a big step in making Helsinki the Bitcoin capital of Europe."

Nordic countries show their growing interest in Blockchain technologies and Finland is a top-3 country per capita in Bitcoin usage globally. With the new Bitcoin ATM in Itis both companies hope for more merchants to begin accepting Bitcoin in the nearby area.

25  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is having a nice day. Did China find another hack? on: November 27, 2015, 02:57:26 AM
This should probally be moved to speculation or Bitcoin discussion as there are no news articles here.
26  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Nov 23 to Dec 7 Set up stage- Picks Not Open Yet on: November 27, 2015, 02:47:13 AM
Today was an awful day.

175 Blocks found so +21.52

That is a strong discovery range, at present the predicted is still +14 for now, but there was a bit of price appreciation today before BBF so maybe difficulty will move up, I'll hold an opinion on that until Friday sales are processed by merchants though.

Bitcoin Difficulty: 72,722,780,643
Estimated Next Difficulty: 82,828,549,627 (+13.90%)
Adjust time: After 1539 Blocks, About 9.9 days
Hashrate(?): 568,888,961 GH/s
27  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Storing money on Smartphone is far more secure than desktop or laptop on: November 27, 2015, 12:29:34 AM
Phones are less secure given that most users will jailbreak it
One malicious app, or simply losing the phone can cause bigger issues it is also why services such as Blockchain.info and other wallets recommend not storing large amounts on phones simply because their is risk there.
28  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: November 26, 2015, 11:52:27 PM
They're all self moderated threads and I think chmod opens most of the threads in the press section. I guess he's cleaning things up. Nothing to do with bots or mods.

I'll chip in as well since 7/8 of my comments were deleted I'll have to clean my inbox spam later, that said seeing the trend above he is just cleaning up all commentary in the Press section in his self moderated topics, all that remain are his posts and quotes in which Chmod commented on one of the deleted posts.
29  Economy / Speculation / Re: Any impact of the Russian SU24 shot down by Turkey (NATO)? on: November 26, 2015, 12:04:15 PM
No big impact from the shoot down. The shoot down does not even affect the stock market for a few days.

Well it doesn't hurt that Putin said he wishes to resolve this tactfully using diplomacy.
https://www.rt.com/op-edge/323366-turkey-russians-feel-betrayed/
That said he is irritated about the jet and is putting pressure on Turkey and how it trades with ISIS oil and other products although that has been known by everyone for a while.

Meanwhile Bitcoin carries on absent a WWIII scenario this is pretty neglible.
30  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-11-26] Running a Bitcoin node just got cheaper with the $5 Raspberry Pi on: November 26, 2015, 11:58:58 AM
Thanks for the share I have a question since your also the OP and article writer, I was wondering how you would set up a node to vote for a particular BIP proposal say for example BIP 106 etc, and by extension it does make me a bit concerned that their will be fake nodes run to promote false usage (by defintion of user) I recall XT did that for a while back, that said the network can always use more connection points.

--
As we know, there have been many BIPs (Bitcoin Improvement Proposals) which try to propose the next best algorithm for increasing the block size. As a node operator, you have the ability to choose which version of the bitcoin protocol your node will run. If you agree with a certain BIP more so than another you can run your node with the included BIP and other miners will see that.

-
It's nice for sure. But you'll also need to include a (for now) 64GB memory card to host the full blockchain as that takes up around 54-55GB at current date. More ideal would be a 128GB memory card. It's impossible for me here in Europe to get the complete package for just $15.

I agree a 128 GB card is best for the future although at present I see it reported as 47 GB but it might be my accounting is off somewhere

31  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Tide Is Turning on: November 26, 2015, 11:36:17 AM
Itīs very strange, normally you would anticipate a price dropp just before black friday, I think a crash is still coming around christmas, or mostly the week before Smiley

No it would be the opposite in my opinion a Price rally as people stock up on Bitcoins before black friday, a price drop after the merchants convert the Bitcoins back after black friday sort of a double dip effect.

That's what happened during Black Friday week last year. There was a modest pump beforehand, and a dump afterwards. I had given up on a pump after watching the price decline until yesterday, and this pump caught me by surprise. Over Ģ30 up in 24 hours is an extremely fast pump.

What can I say people are lazy when it comes towards these type of things, I'm sure that there are a lot of individuals who are getting coins at the last minute just in case they want to get some goods, afterwards what people and merchants decide to do with their coins will depend.
Although since part of that volume is Chinese and it's not singles day maybe the Chinese are interested in some online Bitcoin deals ha-ha
Or MMM ponzi it continues lol.
32  Economy / Services / Re: YABTCL.com Signature Campaign 35 Slots 0.00035 - 0.0015 per post on: November 26, 2015, 11:32:11 AM
Is it possible to reserve a spot in this signature campaign as Bitcoinblackfriday will expire well Friday it should be within the 5 day enrollment period assuming their are no issues with BBF.

I also have a follow up question similar to Mirana's I see 35 Slots available in total counting all ranks and the maximum is 100 posts counted in a month with 0 as the minimum but assuming that more than 3 users hit the cap of 100 counted posts, what criteria would be used to determine tiebreakers. Example % of posts in the gambling section of the forum divided by the total posts, an analysis of cumulative total posts in the period or possibly the speed at which they reached 100 etc.
33  Economy / Economics / Re: Economic problems Facing the U.S. on: November 26, 2015, 11:13:46 AM
The United States is facing economic disaster on a scale few nations have ever experienced. Most people are unaware of the easily observable signs of this crisis,
Where it came from and how to stop it. While we persist in our superpower mentality, we have quietly become a second-class country in many respects.

So Please share your Ideas to stop the U.S. Economic Crisis!!!

It depends
https://www.nationalpriorities.org/budget-basics/federal-budget-101/spending/

Based on the pie chart, cutting the military spending to less than half the discretionary spending would cut a bit of the margin which can be put towards interest as well as finding efficiencies in social security and labor, targetting tax margins gets a big sum but can be politcally deadly but then again Trump is doing well at present so maybe it can get done.
However either way it looks like it would be hard to get cuts done and gain efficiencies.

35  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Cryptsy and Kraken Targeted with Extreme DDoS Attacks on: November 26, 2015, 10:34:12 AM

Yeah thats what i figure, kraken aren't also super huge so maybe a scam isn't worth it for the people involved.  I think they have sorted out any ddos issues now lets hope so.

As long as the exchange does not declare bankruptcy gets rescued by a scammer and moves to a new platform all in a matter of days we should be alright, I did feel it was pointing out that a DDOS technically was not what took out mintpal it was a buyout.
Time does tell with these types of issues so it's best to presume the worst and give them some time to resolve.
36  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Cryptsy and Kraken Targeted with Extreme DDoS Attacks on: November 26, 2015, 10:20:31 AM
Exchange collapse and lax security and trust protocols unfortunately come hand in hand.
As long as exchanges remain centralized in some form and not entirely decentralized sites can run away with a users funds.
Gox, Vircurrex, Bitfunder, Mintpal, Cryptsy the list goes on.

Im happy with kraken, i know who runs the exchange, i know roger ver is an investor.  I know they done an audit.   I dont think its impossible they have a "problem" but its less likely and i only have a small amount in the exchange anyway.

Well maybe not Kraken your right about that but to be fair many people thought Mintpal was fairly trustworthy at the time because of Alex Green who was really Ryan Kennedy.
That said your right it's not fair to point fingers if one exchange is having issues cryptsy while the other one is running smoothly enough kraken and Ver is also running forum.bitcoin.com so having the Bitcoin domain and running a scam with kraken would be strange stuff.
37  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-11-25] One of the largest dark web bitcoin markets stops selling weapons on: November 26, 2015, 09:48:31 AM
It's a bit interesting to see a dark market self regulate itself in regards to weapon sales.
That said the sentiment is certainly there in the wake of another attack on Paris unfortunately I assume the trade just moves elsewhere.
38  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-11-25] Over 150 retailers will offer discounts for the Bitcoin Black Frida on: November 26, 2015, 09:34:38 AM
Well as long as they remain as competitive or even slightly better when they give out deals than the sites that take Visa and Paypal they can get a good edge with the difference in margins.

That said 150 choices all revealed on Friday I am looking forward to some good deals Smiley
39  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Black Friday - Episode 4: A New Hope on: November 26, 2015, 09:25:42 AM
What I really hate is that most of this BF lists become available on Black Friday. People don't have enough time to prepare their strategies. I like to think about my purchases or investment decisions.

Ditto, there are some stores that are doing pre-black friday deals and seem to be skipping black friday in the US according to the news, but I guess in order to be fair in Bitcoin everyone is starting off on the same start with the same list and the same limited quanties.
